"Official" Diablo 3 Petition
diablo3.com — Diablo3.com has decided to use its member base of over 4500 registered users to begin a Diablo 3 petition to send to Blizzard. The petition is in good fun, but it will be posted on multiple sites and sent to blizzard. So if you want to see a Diablo 3, help out and sign the petition.
- 1085 diggs
- digg it
- Umaro, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Lets get this story rocking, 4500 members on that site will wake up with an e-mail to sign the petition and hopefully this story catches on at Digg.
- ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Umm, I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that Blizzard has already started some preliminary pre-production work on this game...
But if that's wrong, let's remember that Blizzard is a relatively small development studio with numerous franchises, and have to pick and choose what they make and when to make it, since they can't have too many concurrent projects in development at the same time. I think they're more likely to make a sequel to Starcraft than anything at this point. - mgainor, on 10/12/2007, -14/+41You're an idiot. Online petitions are idiots.
- YumYumKittyLoaf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I also heard that the people that worked on Diablo 1 and 2 started their own business (Flagship Studios) and are making something to rival Diablo called Hellgate London (since they can't use the name "Diablo" as a game title since blizzard owns it).
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40Do you think Blizzard hasn't thought about Diablo 3? Do you think when they get this petition they will suddenly realize, "Oh yea, we have another franchise, let's make a sequel to it"?
Blizzard has planned Diablo 3 since Diablo 2 came out. It may have been on the back burners, but they have had it for a long time and they will premiere it when they feel it is ready. Blizzard is notorious for taking years to bring out a game so they can polish it. I remember waiting many years for Warcraft 3 after seeing the first picture of it. And I first heard about World of Warcraft as a college freshman and it wasn't released until after I had graduated!
So let them know that you are excited about this game, but don't think this petition will change anything. Blizzard knows exactly what they are doing and they will release Diablo 3 when they feel it is ready. - ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -18/+1Submitter: If you really gave a ***** and weren't a complete noob, you would have linked through coral cache.
- priceless721, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1i think blizzard still has a few years before they can make another starcraft with all the spyware and stuff in the original starcraft i believed they were banned from making another until 2007 or 2008 i think
- TrainwreckX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Blizzard started Diablo 3 over a year ago. Starcraft 2 was also started about the same time WC3 was finished. That's fine if you guys digg me down and don't believe me, but I'd be willing to place a money bet on it if you would like. Starcraft is further along.
- totalpardo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8stop the madness with the petitions!
- TrainwreckX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The delays of both of these games are for a reason. For Diablo it was the closing and re-location of Blizzard North. For Stracraft, they were waiting for Ghost to launch before they announced it. Both teams suffered from World of Warcraft delays, as the WoW team borrowed developers from them to finish their game.
Now Blizzard has stated that there are "at least two" unannounced projects at their studio. Wonder what those are? I happen to know. - marm0t, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0You must have missed the part where it was announced and shown at blizzcon this year.
- Reap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11
i think blizzard still has a few years before they can make another starcraft with all the spyware and stuff in the original starcraft i believed they were banned from making another until 2007 or 2008 i think
I've had Starcraft since release (several copies, acctually) and I have NO idea what you're smoking. I don't even know of what you're making fun of.
Normally, I would just discount what you say as irrelevant and, quite frankly, stupid, but I really want to know how you figure. - knupso, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Clone on Blizzard, clone on!.
If you ever wonder where Blizzard got their Ideas from, go pick up any Games Workshop book from before Blizzard was even in existance.
Warcraft is a Warhammer rip off.
Starcraft is a 40k rip off.
Blizzard can make great game and I don't blame the borrowing from Games Workshop. GW just needs to license their IP to Blizzard, because every other studio that made GW products in the games sucked. Except for Daw of War. - nixdoctor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In Diablo 1, the end was inconclusive. There were many questions in the game still not answered fully at the end. That left a gap - a perfect stage to launch Diablo 2.
In a similar way, Diablo 2 leaves many questions unanswered. What happened to Baal? Was his soulstone destroyed too? When the worldstone was shattered, what happened after that? Did demons from the hell start infiltrating the earth? Or did Heaven go awry?
There is clear evidence that Blizzard has left the story of Diablo2 at a point where Diablo 3 would pick up. - Monolith2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Uh, it's pretty stupid to think Blizzard WOULDNT make a Diablo 3. It's like deciding not to print money.
- ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Umm, I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that Blizzard has already started some preliminary pre-production work on this game...
- Travisrd, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6yeah im sure it will. blizzard needs a wake up call
- latova, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6You know, the last starcraft game we've seen came before Diablo. However, I enjoy both series, and hate warcraft.
- Hobbes512, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16IMHO, I think that we need a Starcraft 2 before we need a Diablo 3.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Wake up call for what? I think they know that everyone wants Diablo 3.
- evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12World of Starcraft!
- Reap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Blizzard really needs to wake up; I mean, look at how it is floundering-- they made World of Warcraft and have what, only 6.5 million monthly subscribers? Figure a (very) conservative 12$ a month, they only gross 78 million dollars a month from their main game!
I want Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 as much as anyone (probably more than most), but money talks, and Blizzard is probably pretty deaf at the moment. - SheepKiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I dont think they would make us pay a monthly fee for diablo or starcraft unless it is going to be like a World of Warcraft game. They would most likely have free Battle.net which doesn't give them money like WoW does. They are keeping keeping WoW so they could make a lot of money. Then probably later when it dies down they will make Diablo and Starcraft. I don't know it is just a guess...
- djruden, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29And online petitions ALWAYS work!
- gothsquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14How is any On-line Petition ever "Official." I never got that.
- super_spyder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Farscape - Peace Keeper Wars
FireFly - Serenity
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farscape:_The_Peacekeeper_Wars
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serenity_%28movie%29 - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, as much as I love Diablo 1 & 2 [/w LOD] this is futile.
Off I go to kill some cows on BNET. - lrdscruffybttm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Then I better setup a petition for that million dollars the interwebs owes me!
- quentinp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Try Titan Quest :)
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6Titan Quest suxorz, it keeps crashing because I pirated it.
*lmao* - 0crabby0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Titan's Quest rocks - but I'd still want a Diablo.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Titan Quest is indeed excellent.
Other RPG games 'soon.'
Neverwinter Nights 2 - A month or so.
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic - Out this month I believe.
The Witcher - Early next year..
Gothic 3 - It's gone gold and will be out this month.. I think.. - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Excellent game.....BUGGIEST GAME EVER though.
- LMN8R, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Titan Quest is a bit buggy but definitely awesome :-D
highly recommended!
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6Titan Quest suxorz, it keeps crashing because I pirated it.
- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3If this is a petition to make a Diablo 3 game, it is worthless. If it is to get it made sooner, it will fall on deaf ears.
==POTENTIAL SPOILERS==
There will be a Diablo 3, and from what I have heard it will take place with heaven getting invaded by hell, and you are to help hold off the demons etc. As for timeline, Blizzard is slow with things, but they tend to get them right.- westwind429, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Didn't those ancient rumors get discredited as coming from some pissed-off ex-tester who felt like screwing with things?
- Reyclaw, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8While I love WoW. I can't even imagine how much fun a D3 MMO would be. =)
- solistus, on 03/16/2008, -1/+1I really hope D3 is not an MMO. WoW is cool and all, but it lacks the modability that has made other Blizzard games excellent. Diablo 2 is still alive largely because of active mods like Eastern Sun, and neither SC nor WC3 would have been as successful and long-lived without UMS/custom maps.
- ChrisWickenscom, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4Why do people think that petitions actually MATTER?
I'd rather go fart in a can.- nixdoctor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Then go do it.
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5These people need to take a look at Hellgate: London. Sure, it isn't Diablo- but it's being made by the Diablo team.
- raptordrew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I sure as heck want to see a newer Starcraft before Diablo - no offense to Diablo players, it's just long overdue to have an upgraded Starcraft!
- Guspaz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Indeed, I think a lot of people would much rather see Starcraft 2 than Diablo 3. Besides, such petitions are meaningless and useless. Can anybody honestly point to an online petition that EVER had any impact whatsoever?
- texpundit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Screw Diablo 3. I'd sacrifice kittens to the Blizzard team for Starcraft 2. I was *pissed* when they cancelled Ghost.
IT'S BEEN LONG ENOUGH, GUYS. - Tebixan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I never understood why they canceled ghost, there was so much player interest in it. People are screaming at blizzard to take their money, and blizzard is ignoring them.
WoW is a lasting revenue source, so unfortunately it seems like its their focus for now. - knupso, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4If you want a sequel to starcraft, try Warhammer 40k Dawn of War. Blizzard ripped off games workshops ideas to come up with starcraft anyway.
Human = Space Marines/Imperial Guard
Protos = Eldar
Zerg = Tyranids/genestealers
Matter of fact Warcraft is a Warhammer rip off. Look at the art and lore. Blizzard took Games Workshops ideas changed the story lines around and poof Warhammer.
Blizzard has some great programmers and can make great stable games, but they aren't very creative. - webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"Matter of fact Warcraft is a Warhammer rip off."
Actually, they're both Tolkien rip-offs. Tolkien invented that whole universe, e.g. his publishers tried to correct elven to elfish. Not quite the same now. :) - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I fail to see any resemblence between oruk'hai, orcs, and orks.
- cramjomlin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Its not gonna happen for at least 3-5 years...they haven't even gotten Starcraft Ghost out yet.
- angers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11that's cause it was cancelled
- priceless721, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2indefinetely put on hold was the term they used they have some crazy idea about putting it on all the next gen systems
- NickyBatts, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Petitions always work!
- nixdoctor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Correction: Petitions "may" work.
There's no guarantee though! - NickyBatts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sarcasm morons.
- nixdoctor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Correction: Petitions "may" work.
- rmeddy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Diablo 3 will make for an excellent MMO awesome idea
- westwind429, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'd kill to see a non-MMO Diablo 3. I still play D2:LoD all the time, and one of the great draws is the ability to play on a LAN with my friends... Good times.
- Silis, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Do these people ever read blizzard news, this game is in the process of being made, they had it almost completed last year, but the graphics weren't up to par so they hired a whole new team of artists and are updating all the graphics now. This game is made and just being updated, they put out a call for a ton of artists earlier this year. People just have to know where to look.
- priceless721, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4link? oh and by the way i smell *****
- nixdoctor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Ablizzard.com+%22diablo+3%22&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
But that doesn't tell me anything!!!
- ekso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why a Diablo 3? Why the same stuff over and over again? Why not leave them to create an entirely new franchise? They surely know how to do it and do it well. There are excellent creative minds there. Asking them to just slam a hammer over a (not yet overused) franchise will end up killing their creativity.
- lh2712, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Okay, since the Diablo team went to Flagship Studios, there will be no Diablo 3 from Blizzard once can assume - but Digg for trying and I signed the petition "just in case".
Hellgate: London looks pretty freakin' awesome though - I wish they would at least hint at a shipping date.- vcn3wb05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you are half right, but read around some more.

Petitions are designed for real life events... peoples rights, freedom, etc..
I bet this crowd were the same ones who camped out for months out in front of
a theater for the last three Star Wars movies...- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Petitions are for when large groups of people want something accomplished.

I don't think you'll find any definition that includes the phrase "only for what asstrotrain says they're for".

- socal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'll take anything at this point. I don't care what they release just give us something.
- Kryose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Diablo 3 would be good, and from what I have heard from Gaming Steve's Podcast (www.gamingsteve.com), they are creating Diablo 3 and have been for a while. This also goes for Starcraft 2. Blizzard goes by the beat of their own drum and will not release any information until they know that it will live up to the Blizzard name. They scrapped Starcraft: Ghost two times. I am talking fully finished working games that were just thrown away because they didn't live up.
I can personally wait, but I really hope that they dont make Diablo 3 a MMOG. I stay away from WoW for just that reason. - dogshaft, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5They already did make a Diablo 3. It's called WoW. They simply combined the story line of Warcraft with the gameplay of Diablo 2. Any Diablo 3 would probably resemble WoW, but with a different storyline and universe.
Too bad WoW isn't set up like a game engine, so they could port Diablo AND Starcraft into it.- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Too bad WoW isn't set up like a game engine"
I thought it used the Warcraft 3 engine? - MiDri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, it is set up like a game engine an mmo game engine the most modular of all game engines (they could easily make another mmo with that tech.)
- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Too bad WoW isn't set up like a game engine"
- Induane, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2Seriously who really really wants to see a starcraft2? Starcraft was bad enough. I played that game alot when I was younger but it was a game based on rushing, and who got to the mineral deposits first. Sure there was strategy but everyone knows that the protoss was a broken race. How fair is it in any game that lasts any amount of time that they can potentially build triple the population of any other race? My two favorite games are Total Annihilation and AOEII: The Conquerors. In AOE the races are unique yet meticulously balanced. Total Annihilation was a game that was all about intense action and featured a 3d engine before starcraft was even born. Unlike StarCraft, TA's powerful units were also very fast. Realistically, damaged or inoperable units were real obstacles in the landscape, and could even be reclaimed for scrap metal. Despite all the StarCraft games I played with friends they were always slow paced and dull. Sure some early rushes were fun but seriously if they make another starcraft they at least need to make it as good as some of the games that came out before StarCraft.
Onward! Diablo III would be an interesting game to be sure, but I've got Titan Quest and its fantastic so I can wait as long as it takes.- drakaan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Okay, so the only time you ever play RTS is against friends, and the game is too slow for you.
There were (if you can believe it) a whole slew of RTS games...Command and Conquer, Starcraft, Warcraft...that many people enjoyed playing (which was why so many of them got made). Some of us *enjoy* playing a game that takes weeks, months, or years to get really good at...figuring out the right balance of hydralisks and zerglings...trying to see if there's a way to actually defend your Protoss encampment from siege tanks with surface-to-air missile support.
You don't understand, and that's fine, but there are *lots* of people who have been waiting a long, long time for Starcraft 2. We might even get lucky and not have to hold our breath anymore after next year:
http://pc.ign.com/articles/727/727892p1.html - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Dude, there is no way you played starcraft very much. Anyone who has played it online at all knows that ALL of the races are good. Even in *professional* competitive play, some player still choose "random" as their race... Any race can win if they're played right.
Starcraft is by far the best RTS game ever created. - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There are at least 2 Korean TV channels that dedicate over 50% of their airtime to Starcraft competitions. Korea rules!

Okay, so the only time you ever play RTS is against friends, and the game is too slow for you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I phrased it poorly and didn't adequately state my point. As technology has increased over the years our most powerful weapons also became our fastest. In starcraft the most powerful units tend to be the slowest.

TA is in complexity probably only moderately more deep thah StarCraft. Age of Empires II: The Conquerors has far more diversity. After playing the game extensively for about 5 years I feel I have a pretty good command of it. Troop mixtures, picking a civilization that exemplifies your stregnths and minimizes your personal weaknesses in playing style, battle formations, etc... are all things that most RTS games have in common and AOEII has in spades. The variety is extremely extensive with my only complain that there are only 14 or so civilizations to choose from. I'd rather more. That said though, I DO enjoy playing a game of excessive complexity, with starcraft I felt as if I reached my total overall understanding of it much more quickly. That isn't necessarily bad, but I left it for AOEII because its interest dropped quicker.
I do think though that gamewise TA was far superior to StarCraft. SC didn't have any water or water units, its maps were smaller, and it was 2d. The units could only move in 8 directions, TA had far far far more unit diversity with over 250 units, while SC had in the mid 80's somewhere. SC also had a fully 3d engine, and its focus was more on attack. The focus on total attack as opposed to defensive base building I think is a large part of why my personal opinion is so biased towards TA over SC. It also had awsome explosions and the ability to create nuclear weapons that could detonate an entire screen full of units including your own. The soundtrack was exceptionally awsome, with the music rising and falling during the exciting times of the battle which added a feel to the game that is indescribable. The game disk could also be placed in an ordinary cd audio player to listen to the soundtrack.
Hmm and this about sums it up: http://www.angelfire.com/rant/tauwisdom/anon1.html

Sure there are plenty of people waiting for it. There are people waiting for other games all over that are probably pretty lousy games. I wouldn't mind seeing a SC2 but I'd hope they made alot of good improvements. I'm not surewhat I don't understand... I'm not saying its a terrible game, I'm just saying it was inferior to other games such as TA, enough so that I am surprised at the number of people who think its the most awsome leet 1337 game ever..

- priceless721, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i believe you my starcraft cd exploded it was in a 52X drive and spun up maybe a little too quick and i just heard a loud pop and it was gone and so was the drive
- gardnmi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah its destroyed my drive too but it made a cool rattle maker.
- Xarou, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0OK I read through all of the comments to see if someone had already said what I was going to... but they didn't. I don't see how they can make a D3. In D2 we destroyed all the prime evils, except for one. What's going to happen, Diablo Jr is going to seak revenge for his daddy's death? And even if they try to have Baal be the main boss in the game, that would be kinda retarded.
What they should do is now we play on the Prime Evil's side. You are now Baal and trying to take over the world that has been shattered because of the world stone being broken. That could be a whole new twist on the game's franchise.- westwind429, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't forget Tyrael's treachery...an archangel like him that falls could have enough juice to be on the level of a Prime Evil. There are also the lesser evils that are, I'm sure, looking to move up and fill the power vacuum left by the destruction of the Three. The destruction of the Worldstone leaves the world open to assault and assimilation by Heaven and Hell.
There are plenty of plot threads for D3 to pick up.

- kevin45, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I played through Diablo 2 twice and it is very mundane and boring. Clicking times 1000, duplicate weapons, etc etc etc. What do people like about this game? There is no depth to it at all.
I'd rather see them develop a new IP, SC2 or WC4.
"They already did make a Diablo 3. It's called WoW. They simply combined the story line of Warcraft with the gameplay of Diablo 2. Any Diablo 3 would probably resemble WoW, but with a different storyline and universe."
100% absolute truth. WOW is nothing more than Warcraft universe and D2's mechanics mashed together. Personally, I found the tree based character expansion very limiting, just like Diablo 2.- quentinp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well I didn't play Diablo, but in Titan Quest (same thing, newer graphics AFAIK) it's all about trying out characters and strategies. Finding equipment etc. The lower levels are training grounds for the higher levels. Although in TQ the highest level can still be easy depending on the build (or very difficult), they've only had one balance patch so far though.
- znachtman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1site appears dead
- dngermouse, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0ok not a diss to diablo but i reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally want a starcraft 2. BLIZZARD FTW
- EvilTesdall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0database error?
- asauterChicago, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm not signing this petition. I'm still angry at Blizzard for the solid year of my life lost playing D2 throughout college :-P.
- nixdoctor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You "chose" to play.
- himthatwas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Doesn't putting quotation marks around the word official make it less credible?
- bpatters7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just started a petition for vaporware studios to finish Duke Nukem Forever. Who is with me!?!?!
- jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think they are too busy with the release of The Burning Crusade...and I'm sure the majority of their resources are being put towards WoW. Remember the game called Starcraft: Ghost....
- Malarie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I read on the web that the musical score of the game has already been recorded somewhere eastern Europe.
They dropped SCG because of the new consoles... I bet we'll see SCG on the PS3/Xbox360 - SilentBobSC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Diablo 3 = WoW
If you read their production history, you'll realize that D3 was turned into WoW, the REAL petition should be for Starcraft 2 already! ^.^- gardnmi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1except I didn't have to pay a monthly price to play online
- Saint3k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There's no way that Blizzard will release Diablo 3 while WoW is still making money, to do so would undercut their monthly profits in WoW. The only way around this would be to make Diablo 3 an MMO, then everyone wins.
- rjp_wayne2018, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No need for a petition... When a game sells as well as 1 and 2 did, its quite obvious that a 3 will eventually come.
- nixdoctor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It will, but we don't wanna wait for 5 years!
Wait.. it has been 5 years already!
- nixdoctor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It will, but we don't wanna wait for 5 years!
- musntSurfatWork, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If Blizzard makes Diablo3 a MMO , I will make like a hockey puck and 'pass'
- Ware1320, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I signed the petition and am number 666. Hell yeah. They should let me be the sole beta tester with a six-figure salary for that *****. ***** the lottery - this is important!
- wolver1ne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Petition.. come on!
And how the heck is it official? Is it being petitioned by some former member of Blizzard.. or maybe Blizzard itself? Give me a break. - dracflamloc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sadly I think d3 won't come out until WoW has gone and fallen off the map somewhat. Diablo's multiplayer and game style is by nature one that really only works when the multiplayer is free (ie not a monthly fee game).
Releasing a game like D3 doesn't make sense financially when you look at what they've done with WoW.
That said I think WoW is boring and I hate paying a monthly fee for games. As much as I'd love for D3 to come out soon, I'd expect Starcraft first. - musntSurfatWork, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0London Hellgate will negate the Diablolate that ryhmes with Chocol-ate , my mate the migrate BILL ROPER LEFT THE ***** COMPANY.
