pbs.org — From Fad to Phenomenon: This is the story of how a whimsical invention of the 1960s helped spawn the computer industry as we know it. Video games have influenced the way children live and play, forever altered the entertainment industry, and even affected the way wars are fought. - Tykan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This has to be at least the third time I've seen this story pop up on the main page of digg. Disappointing since it's such an old topic. Baffling that there are still those out there that digg and havn't been or seen or heard of that PBS stuff.

- ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Invention of the 1960's"?
Expect that to be challenged rather violently in these comments. - butlershouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tykan Said "Baffling that there are still those out there that digg and havn't been or seen or heard of that PBS stuff"
Butlershouse responded:
Yes , we are the remaining population that live, work and pay taxes "OUTSIDE" of the United States of America. You may have heard about us in the news, on travel shows and if you took that copy of the "Map of the World" off your bookshelf youd discover that theres a whole load more land that exists outside America, and it also contains people. - sych0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this aired last year or maybe even the year before. get with the times
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Somebody chose "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind WALKER" as their favorite game in the history of games section. What is a wind walker???
- hoowahman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I DVR'd this and watched it last night. Good shoe and definitely worth the watch.
- quaffapint, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1It is old, but still a very interesting watch. Whether you play or not, you have to agree its been quite a ride...

http://www.funnyandfun.com - thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Be sure to Tivo this one. It ran last year and I have watched it several times since it's original airing. Fantastic program...
- northLite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some innacuracies in the timeline, they said the PS2 was the first console released with greater graphics capabilities than a PC. This wasnt true then, and never will be true ever with any future consoles.
They also said that Americas Army went on to be the #1 online action game, CS has always been #1.
"PBS knows how to put together a show about videogames and yet, G4 is teh suck." G4s show "Icons" is nothing but documentaries about video games, pretty good stuff too. - nugget, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0
- bloodyValentine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I watched this almost 2 years ago I think, it was pretty good though

A torrent would be nice...anyone wanna share? - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Saw it a while ago. It was well done and very interesting.
- G33KFR33K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Somebody chose "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind WALKER" as their favorite game in the history of games section. What is a wind walker???"
Well a Wind WAKER is a baton that plays notes to change the way in which the wind blows, among other things, so I suppose a Wind WALKER is a giant boot that steps on the air current. - 1337diggster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0need torrent :=/
- cubicgarden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is a really good UK programme which is about game culture and was produced by Channel4.com. Its called Thumbbandits, and can be easily found on your friendly local torrent site. Its 3 1hour shows, so expect about a 2gig download.
