People Still Killing Each Other Over PS3s
1pstart.com — The latest report of violence over the Playstation 3 comes from San Francisco. It seems Hani Attia was killed on Monday for doing the right thing. Attia was a witness of a man trying to steal a PS3 from two women who were attempting to sell it to him. Attia confronted the man, got into an altercation and was stabbed.

- FAPmaster, on 10/12/2007, -32/+15PS3s are still gay too.
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38This is so pathetic, although you've got to think how many other murders have been commited over things that cost less. Lots of people are killed over things like high school dates, food or just even race / color of skin. Some people are just really stupid, I guess.
- softwhere, on 10/12/2007, -29/+11If you are dumb enough to kill someone, you are dumb enough to want a ps3.
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Poor guy. Just in the wrong place at the wrong time with a jackass that puts more value into an electronic device than a life.
- DesolataX, on 10/12/2007, -13/+31Some people would kill to play Ridge Racer, Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Racer!
- macmcrae, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2Talk about viral marketing.
- xerus, on 10/12/2007, -9/+29Five hundred and ninty nine U.S. dollars.
- xBBx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39It's sad really. A human life isn't worth a console. Especially the life of someone who was simply doing the right thing and trying to stop the guy.
- cam503, on 10/12/2007, -10/+32Digg me down; replied to the wrong one. George Dubya must have rearranged the interweb tubes when I wasn't looking.
- SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -40/+6I must add that if you're going to kill someone over a console, make it a Wii or at least an Xbox 360.
- romainechester, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16@sultantravi
Well that was a stupid and inconsiderate remark. - SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Gee, thanks romaine. I thought it was appropriate and considerate when I wrote it; alas, I shall rue this day.
- kidd3ckz, on 10/12/2007, -20/+3I would kill someone for an XBOX 360, but not for a measly PS3...
- StillGaming, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1ugh, linkedlist, just when I thought I had finally forgotten that horrible story. The comments (and the massive amount of +diggs) throughout show the true face of diggers. It's looming its ugly head in this article as well.
- MWeather, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3"It's sad really. A human life isn't worth a console."
Somehow I doubt you would say that if it was the thief who was killed. - dadioflex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The guy wasn't killed over a console, he was killed trying to help a couple of women in distress. I doubt he gave a flying crap about the console wars.
- GruntGrunt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I think a few peoples lives in this world are worth MUCH less than a console. Osama Bin Laden? Hitler?
(Even if the console is complete crap)
- JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -20/+5so ps3s are all over the place, easy as heck to find...and yet people are killing each other for them? i know i know...rtfa....
- rappermas, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31This is like people willing to kill people because they think their OS is better. Oh wait...
- softwhere, on 10/12/2007, -16/+1mac ftw. :]
- Tikkimann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you believe even half the comments here on Digg, you're talking about a lot of people...
- TiCL, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1PWND!
- Gophergreg, on 10/12/2007, -19/+13We should just ban PS3s. That would stop all violence.
- Yarnage, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5Not sure why people are digging this person down. Our society takes this route with many other items. Why should the PS3 be any different?

knife beats super powers?
Or does knife always lose?
- Jholder112233, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18I see a new rock paper scissors coming on.
- xspinkickx, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9I do not understand why there is, over here there are ps3s on shelves collecting dust.....so sad that a piece of electronics cost a human life.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13I think it's downright apalling that we have someone murdered and fanboys use it to post the same ***** like this, taking an opportunity to throw in a little "nobody wants one" nonsense. Shame on your retard.
- cjmac87, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25If the story was called... a man killed for $500 it would be a lot less interesting, but more accurate. I seriously doubt the man wanted the ps3 to go play video games, but rather to sell it
- mjn23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Thank you for pointing that out.
PS3 related crime? Do all you people live in gated communities or something? - Tikkimann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, this could easily go under another news heading.
If these PS3 incidents keep happening, it'll make me wonder why the 3DO launch was so quiet...
- mjn23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Thank you for pointing that out.
- xspinkickx, on 10/12/2007, -16/+4I love linux, and I am mean I am glad Dell offers the choice now, but I mean how long will this company last, it linux, its still associated with uber nerds. I just see another company biting the dust. I use linux as my primary os, but I mean I do not think there is a market share for this unfortunately.
- cwshea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Check the page ;-)
- giveer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1"Still"? Last I heard, most people didn't give a *****. Sucks these folks happened to run into this one guy.
- Wasyu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I thought all this fighting over PS3s was over also too bad the guy who was trying to help didn't have a gun or air taser as either one will usually beat a knife.
- Archangelix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's like when people look at the console and say that it means everything, and when they see other people's lives, they mean... nothing. So sad :(
- windhawk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There is a story in the Talmud about the same type of thing. It says that when the Tower of Babel was being built, if a workman dropped a brick they would kill the workman. The moral is that civilizations are destroyed when things are valued more than human life.
- djphatjive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3I guess they didn't get the memo that is SUX!
- Alias12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Stories like these are so sad. Selfish consumers need to grip on reality.
- Scopitone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Not cool! Ghetto ass *****.
- luckynas, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0i am sorry ? you steal a ps3 and sell it for $1 since nobody will buy it ?
- BlueIndependent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Fewer things are as sad as this. Fry the guy.
Killed over a video game console. That's pretty hard to swallow, but I can't imagine what the guy's loved ones are going through. - lesty, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Rapper Cam'ron says "mind your own damn business" now you know why bitch!
- SSCrow, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I didn't know that there was any demand for the PS3.
Every time I visit the mall, I take a moment to laugh at EBgames latest attempt to market the PS3.
Its the little things that keep me going. - staffrocket, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0"It seems Hani Attia was killed on Monday for doing the right thing." Well obviously not because he's dead.
- wildsnake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9People get killed over parking spaces
- gillstr, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0yet more evidence that computer games like counter-strike are the sole reason why there is violence in the world today :p
- Ang3ldfz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3It clearly wasn't a violent computer game that drove that man to kill.
- gillstr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0sarcism fool!
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3must suck to die over something as ***** as the PS3
- madfusion15, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1haha i hope the guy stabs his family too for being such a douche. digg this down if you support george bush
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Isn't that article a wee bit skewed? The guy wasn't killed because of the PS3. The guy was killed because he confronted the would be robber, got into an altercation with him, and got stabbed.
The PS3 could easily have been a wallet, purse, etc.
I'm a Sony hater and even to me that article just sounds like FUD. - Absolutely0, on 10/12/2007, -9/+0This is probably neither the place nor time to share this...
...ah, who am I kidding?
Do yourself and your loved ones a favor by checking out Standford University's relatively new (launched in 2000 by Dr. Vijay S. Pande) "parallel processing" project ( http://folding.stanford.edu/ ) - geared towards better understanding "protein folding" related biological disorders (hopefully eventually discovering a cure) such as Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Mad Cow Disease, and various forms of cancer.
Every single individual that participates by downloading and running the (free and stable) folding@home program (provided at the aforementioned link) will further improve the chance that a cure is found for one or more of the diseases related to protein folding. Anyone with a computer (now even a PS3!) and an Internet connection can join in on the effort.
For those of you who are still unconvinced that this program is worth your time, I want you to ask yourself the following question: why let your CPU go unused while you browse the net when it can be helping find a cure for cancer that might someday save the life of a loved one? IMHO, the minor (with a HUGE emphasis on the word "minor") nuisance of taking the (roughly) 2 minutes it takes to download and configure the program to your liking is WELL worth the cause.
***note(s):
*the program can be run whenever you like
*the newest versions are very stable - version 5.03 is the latest (non beta) for the Windows (2000/XP/Vista) OS
*there are versions that run on the Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X operating systems
*the program can easily be configured so that it doesn't demand a lot of resources, but it's default setting is for 50% CPU usage
*you may either use the connection settings of IE or manually set proxy information
*F@H recently added a version of their program that works on the PS3
*supposedly, the "cell" processor within the PlayStation 3 is ~20 faster than the (mean) avg. of the platforms currently involved in F@H
*their are currently over 1 million CPUs that have joined the supercomputing effort!- xBBx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Your right, this is neither the time nor the place. Welcome to the block list
- Zaitsevs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9playstations don't kill people
people kill people
if playstations killed people, then pencils make people spell incorrectly.
cars make people drive drunk
and spoons make rosie o'donnel fat - flyinghigh91, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Are people ***** serious? Killing another person for a PlayStation. Its bad enough the guy was trying to steal it but he also stole some body's life. See what this world has come to. i think it is just pathetic and something needs to be done about it.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can't believe everyone digging this article and then slamming the Playstation 3. People get killed all the time for watches, shoes, jewelry, this just happened to be for a PS3. But the real question is do thieves want the items?? No, they want them to sell them so they can get their next beer or their next drug high. These people are insane. It really disgusts me how many people are on this board slamming the PS3 or slamming video games as the cause of this horrible event.
- Artemiszero, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1This isn't so much a commentary on the "demand" for PS3s, but a clear indication of the type of people that are interested in buying PS3s in the first place. Have fun with NBA 07 and Gengi...
- gunner1138, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1It's wrong to kill a person for a PS3. I can find PS3s at my local Costco!
- windhawk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1They can have mine.
What good is a game box that only has ONE worthwhile game for it (Resistance: Fall of Man). This is the only worthwhile game exclusive to the PS3.
I say only "one" because nearly all the rest of the games are also available for the XBOX 360 (Elder Scrolls, CD3).
For the PS3 to be worth it as a game system there better be more worthy content that it and only it can run. - hjduk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I doubt the theif gave a ***** about playing it, it was more likly he knew they were expensive and was going to sell it. Could have been anything.
- ASSASSYN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One thing...why sell anything out in the open that people have died over and it`s not like you couldn`t find a new or used one in the store. They are frakin everywhere. Not to excuse the actions of the attacker but so many reasons why this shouldn`t have had the chance to occur.
- joey368, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1& they are all fanboys too. there's a Youtube user named "WHENMUDSTANDZONEDGE", a 13 year old crappy rapper who even says Sony is his life & boycotts Nintendo from day to day. He's gonna be in one of these stories someday.
- vertigorider, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I hope those 2 women feel great for buying a PS3 for the sole purpose of reselling it (yes, I'm making assumptions but I'm sure it's accurate) only to have an innocent person killed for their (estimated) $100 profit. So his life was worth $100, not $599.
- joey368, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1& I'm glad Wii is all sold out or else even more violence & theft would break out.
- iamjames, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1original story's a little light on details. How'd they meet the men? Were they just standing on a street corner shouting "ps3 for sale!"? Seems unlikely he'd be killed if he was in front of a gas station in a decent part of town.
According to the original article:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/05/02/BABADIGEST4.DTL
"The women chased after the man, and one of them got it back. Attia confronted the man who took the device. In a scuffle, Attia was stabbed. His friends took him to Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, where he died."
so the women got it back, then he confronted the man and got in a fight with him?? His friends took him to the hospital, where were these friends when he confronted the man? standing there watching? Otherwise he'd have to call his friends, and if that's the case wouldn't it be much faster to call an ambulence? Very light on details.
sad he was only 31, had a wife and just moved from michigan. Gotta wonder if he had life insurance, i'm sure he didnt think he was going to die that night. - smek2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's what you get, when you spend so many years and dollars in marketing to build a desire for a brand.
Humans are stupid. Attacking each other for a non-vital piece of electronics. - Almonde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Topic is quite misleading. Did ppl ever kill for a ps3 seriously?
Sure, a sad thing that happened. But don't post it this way. - jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In the real world this guy probably got killed because some bum needed his next drug hit or his next bottle of booz. It could of just as easily been that ladies purse, jewelry, pair of shoes or whatever this guy could've used to get cash. Taking an unfortunate event such as this and using it to bash Playstation or Videogames as many are doing is just ridiculous.
- BoomWav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have to agree with you on something. I don't think it's a reason to bash on video-games. However, I must say some people need help quick.. if they kill someone for a PS3. I mean.. video-game never killed anyone. We couldn't say that for a baseball bat. I never heard anyone saying baseball promoted violence.
- Animik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I don't see why this is happening, just go down to your local Costco store and grab a damn PS3, I was there a month a go and saw a case full of them, no one was even looking at it.
- ieatkoalas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If i was Sony, i would take this opportunity to market the PS3. "the PS3, its to die for"
- ieatkoalas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0did i really just say something that corny?
- DivianaHJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought it was funny.
Maybe a little tasteless, but I've got horrible humor.
I think killing kids in games is fun(ny). (along with bunnies and other helpless animals)
- Absolutely0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...I see how this works, I try to spread news that might help save lives and so you bury me 8ft deep?!
It amazes me how this world works. I guess it makes sense though, as time increases since the "Big Bang" so must the overall entropy within our universe...or something like that;)
Why create order when we are perfectly happy with disorder, right?
...OK, I'm not even going to try to pretend that I know what I'm talking about...
...but I do know (as a fact) that saving lives isn't a bad thing - and dats da troof! - sirpsychosexy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1now lowering the ps3's price is not just an economic issue - it's a moral issue

I mean that is what it is - digg0t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pathetic low life scum, we need to get rid of these people out of the human gene pool. Why does he think he can take the life of another human being?
