Proof RARE Pissed Off at Nintendo; Mario beheaded by Banjo
nintendowiifanboy.com — Rare unveiled a trailer yesterday for its forthcoming Xbox 360 vehicle-based platformer Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. It looks very lovely, as Rare games often do, but discussion about the video now seems to be less about the game, and more about a brief cameo from Mario.

- chillypacman, on 05/15/2008, -32/+124RARE used to live in the shadows of Nintendo, their games were brilliant but it was always that fat ass plumber who got all the attention. Banjo Kazooie for example looked better graphically, was far more epic in scope and just more damn fun to play than Mario 64 but hey, the bear was no fat ass italian plumber.
When they moved to Microsoft they had some problems but after a while got their act together which showed with Conkers Bad Furday and extended to Kameo: Elements of Power.
Yet they weren't getting any approval for their great games, in fact Kameo got elss attention than it would have had it been a Nintendo game. When the 360 launched everyone was complaining about a lack of 'next gen' visuals in the 360 launch line up. Um, HELLO!? Kameo? It looked gorgeous and it played beautifully. So why no love?
Oh right, xbox, fratboys and all that.
Bleh.
Having said all that I am somewhat hesitant about Banjo Kazooie 3, vehicle based? Vehciles which USE FUEL!? Now I know they want to kill themselves...- Sirocco, on 05/15/2008, -34/+12Rare's games were almost universally pretty but poorly designed. Goldeneye has great Single Player, and weak multiplayer. Perfect Dark had weak single player, and strong multiplayer. Jet Force Gemini was an abortion child of oddly colored lights and endless backtracking to finish the game. Conker's was soaked in genuinely interesting humor, but ultimately a stale experience after the first two stages. Banjo was just a ***** game: period. It was a sub-par platformer with colorful visuals but terrible level design and no real incentive to play beyond reaching the next coma-inducing stage. Donkey Kong 64? Oh... *****... what a gigantic stinker! Star Fox Adventures? Hey, how about a Zelda clone that once again eschews solid game design for pretty visuals? That game was (no surprise) a horrible disappointment.
I'd have to say Donkey Kong Country 2 was their magnum opus. Don't get me started on their horrible Xbox and 360 titles thus far. Nintendo did the right thing kicking their asses to the curb.- logicalnoise, on 05/15/2008, -3/+21so goldeneye one fo the most played MP modes in console FPS history had weak multiplayer? Every level in Conker was different. Most of them introduced a new game mechanic. Hell the matrix level even had bullet time. Their track record isn't perfect but Rare remains a master class dev studio.
- mlrigsby, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3Well, they were, at any rate. They got spotty towards the end of the N64's life, SFA was horrible, and other than Viva Pinata they haven't done anything notable since.
- calantus, on 05/15/2008, -2/+5goldeneye had the best multiplayer, until this gen. IMO (you could argue halo)
- TheCoats, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2Or I could argue Perfect Dark?
Yes goldeneye was played more but Perfect Dark's multiplayer shined like a diamond - Remmiz, on 05/15/2008, -2/+2Perfect Dark = Goldeneye 2.0
- TheCoats, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2Or I could argue Perfect Dark?
- Flamancot, on 05/15/2008, -3/+10how dare you? leave goldeneye alone and go die in a rainstorm.
- davewelsh79, on 05/15/2008, -7/+4Goldeneye had the best multiplayer...compared to games made in the '80s.
Anyone who thinks Goldeneye was good obviously had never seen a real FPS before. I guess it's hard to fault people like that, but the fanboyism really irritated me in University, when I had been playing Doom, Heretic, Hexen, Duke Nukem 3D, etc. for years earlier.- mlrigsby, on 05/15/2008, -0/+6Goldeneye was a revolution for console FPS multiplayer. You are talking about PC games.
- PoSSeSSeDCoW, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1I loved Goldeneye's multiplayer and guess what... I started playing FPS's with Wolf3D. It's just fun. Stop talking like you know what objectively makes a good game and a bad game; you don't.
- xtremesniper, on 05/15/2008, -1/+5I'm more offended that you call Banjo Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64 bad games than Goldeneye, since there's already a ton of defenders for Goldeneye anyways.
- Pirkel, on 05/15/2008, -1/+8Diddy Kong Racing was a pretty awesome Rare game.
- mnky9800n, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1I think the first Donkey Kong was better than the second.
- KnockoutNerd, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1The second one had Diddy playing the guitar at the end of the levels. You also fought Donkey Kong while he was under control of K.Rool. The second one is better.
- SpoonMachine, on 05/15/2008, -0/+5By calling Banjo-Kazooie a ***** game you have directly attacked my childhood. I DECLARE INTERNET WAR
- danomagnum, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I loved jet force gemini
- logicalnoise, on 05/15/2008, -3/+21so goldeneye one fo the most played MP modes in console FPS history had weak multiplayer? Every level in Conker was different. - hipnerd, on 05/15/2008, -2/+59I agree that Banjo-Kazooie was prettier and more epic that Mario 64--but Mario 64 came out two full years earlier and was groundbreaking. No one had made a successful, fully 3D console game like it. You could go anywhere. Levels weren't rigidly controlled.
To Rare's credit, they studied Mario 64 and the N64 hardware and made advancements in both gameplay and graphics, but Banjo-Kazooie was not the revolutionary title that Mario 64 was.- jdames1980, on 05/15/2008, -5/+9Banjo-Kazooie was inferior to Mario 64 in the gameplay dept. Banjo-Kazooie had too much of a fetch quest element to it. Mario 64 also didn't have horrific frame rate problems like Banjo did. I tried playing Banjo-Kazooie a few months ago and got nauseous from the awful frame rate.
- Aiwanei, on 05/15/2008, -2/+7go get the 8 blue coins to get a star, get the red coin to get a star, how is that not fetch quests. Mario 64 is full of them. Most of the time the quest of getting all 120 stars is completed by collecting other stuff.
- imikedaman, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4He never said Mario 64 doesn't have any, he said Banjo Kazooie has too many. There's a difference.
collect red feathers
collect gold feathers
collect blue eggs
collect notes
collect jiggies
collect jinjos
collect mumbo tokens
collect items in mini games
And no, most of the 120 stars in Mario 64 is not collecting stuff - only the 8 coins and 100 coin challenges are like that. If you count the "find the 5 secret areas" challenge as collecting things, then I can point out tons of areas in Banjo Kazooie like that too (like shooting eggs into 5 flowerpots, butt-stomping the 4 X's, etc.).
- imikedaman, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4He never said Mario 64 doesn't have any, he said Banjo Kazooie has too many. There's a difference.

- Shaflugi, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2Banjo also ran like *****. There were framerate issues all over the place. It doesn't matter if you can make a game prettier unless you can keep it running well ;).
- jdames1980, on 05/15/2008, -5/+9Banjo-Kazooie was inferior to Mario 64 in the gameplay dept. Banjo-Kazooie had too much of a fetch quest element to it. - cowsgonemadd3, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3Mario had no donkey he had a dino.
- tchawla, on 05/15/2008, -2/+7Maybe they are pissed. But companies change a lot over a few years - a lot of folks who worked for Rare during the goldeneye days have since left (notably the ones to form Free Radical). The company's top employees are barely the same as they were from back then. Why would they be pissed? The trailer is probably just a stunt to get attention. "Hey our trailer isn't all that attractive...how can we get people on the internet to look at it?"
- madcat033, on 05/15/2008, -3/+16"When they moved to Microsoft they had some problems but after a while got their act together which showed with Conkers Bad Furday and extended to Kameo: Elements of Power."
Are you kidding me? Conker was an EXACT port. It was the same, but with better graphics. Really lame.- tchawla, on 05/15/2008, -6/+2Uh....actually, they added multiplayer.
- PueSi, on 05/15/2008, -1/+8Conker for N64 HAD multiplayer.
- tchawla, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2You're right. I meant to say they added a multiplayer mode, not multiplayer.
- Dgen_X, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3Why did they remove the frying pan? It was the best weapon EVER.
I had much more fun with the BFD multi player though, wish they would have included those game modes in L&R.
- Nudar, on 05/15/2008, -1/+940 diggs and he didn't even realize Conker's Bad Fur Day was first released on N64.
- Deepmist, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0As soon as I read that part it was buried.
- CamelToad, on 05/15/2008, -7/+6I used to love Rare, but Kameo is an unmitigated piece of *****.
- MidnightRealism, on 05/15/2008, -2/+1Agreed. What an awful game.
- Ignitedude, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4You my friends have no imagination.
- dagamer34, on 05/15/2008, -5/+2Banjo-Kazooie >> Mario 64. I know when it first game out Mario 64 was THE *****, but Banjo pretty much improved on it in every way by not making it boring to run around the same world 8 different times.
- JBobtheGr8, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0Then why do you see speed runs of Mario 64 but not Banjo? There's a reason there hasn't been a real Banjo game in 10-odd years, but there were 17 Mario games in 2007.
- Sirocco, on 05/15/2008, -34/+12Rare's games were almost universally pretty but poorly designed. Goldeneye has great Single Player, and weak multiplayer. - NaziHatinChimp, on 05/15/2008, -17/+77Don't know why they would be pissed at Nintendo. Remember Rare dissing MS for no Viva Pinata publicity? Yeah Nintendo didn't do that to Rare so maybe they should quit being babies and get over it. BTW this game looks like it's not going to be that great.
- Azimuth1, on 05/15/2008, -8/+20Maybe you should stop being a baby and assuming that a dev building a representation of a famous character and then blowing it up in a trailer as a joke means that the entire company of Rare must be angry with the company that made that character. Rare was more successful on the N64 than they are now. They also still make DS games.
I guess they were pissed off with Nintendo when Conker sawed the N64 logo in half at the beginning of Bad Fur Day too, right?- Puffles, on 05/15/2008, -2/+4Why is everyone digging this comment down? It makes some good, valid points.
- TheFoo, on 05/15/2008, -1/+5Yeah I was pretty disappointed when they announced the vehicle based aspect of this game.
- Azimuth1, on 05/15/2008, -8/+20Maybe you should stop being a baby and assuming that a dev building a representation of a famous character and then blowing it up in a trailer as a joke means that the entire company of Rare must be angry with the company that made that character. - tboutcher, on 05/15/2008, -7/+33Banjo Kazooie 64 is my all time favorite game.
- ButchersBoy, on 05/15/2008, -2/+3Personally not my fave game of all time, but I am digging you up cos it certainly was a cracker.
- cromulent742, on 05/15/2008, -5/+2Never played Banjo Kazooie, but Perfect Dark is my all-time favorite
- jakobrowning, on 05/15/2008, -3/+7good for you. I like pie.
- Nidis, on 05/15/2008, -19/+76Rare hasn't been anything decent for years, they're Rare by name only now.
Fond memories of DKC1-3, Snake Rattle and Roll, Perfect Dark, Diddy Kong Racing, these guys USED to rock so hard...- RolltheStampede, on 05/15/2008, -2/+23You forgot Battle Toads
- Stemnin, on 05/15/2008, -2/+4Killer Instinct too! I still prefer Goldeneye over PD though.
- jp12380, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1I always thought it was easier to see the map and where you were going in goldeneye vs pd especially playing 4 player.
- JBobtheGr8, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0Is this Battle Toads? I knew it!
- Stemnin, on 05/15/2008, -2/+4Killer Instinct too! I still prefer Goldeneye over PD though.
- jp12380, on 05/15/2008, -8/+17You forgot Golden eye!!!
I was disapointed with diddy kong racing. Should have been just like Mario kart controls only new levels and new characters. ugg.- bagboyrebel, on 05/15/2008, -0/+6What would have been the point in that case?
- jp12380, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1The point in what? Didi Kong racing? I loved Mario kart, I felt it had the right balance between the cars, loved the maps and the special items. I would have loved to play a new Mario Kart game that had 16 to 20 new maps, perhaps switch things up a bit with new characters, new special items but I would have bought it in a second. Used to love playing all 16 maps in a row then playing them all again on special with friends.
- yohnstoppable, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2I liked diddy kong racing. My main problems with it were
1) The levels weren't designed as well as mario kart
2) The stupid single player storyline
3) Who the ***** were the goofy other characters? I didn't care about them
4) Not enough powerups
But I loved the planes, and even the hard to control boat was fun. I also liked the custom bonus games they had. I also loved the lack of stupid catchup ai, which was the worst aspect of the 64 version. Meh, diddy kong was a good first effort imo
- bagboyrebel, on 05/15/2008, -0/+6What would have been the point in that case?
- RetlawST, on 05/15/2008, -1/+10Um, Viva Pinata was possibly one of the most underrated games of all times. Based off of your comment, I would bet good money you haven't played it.
- BearinG, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1Its a good game.. but not mind blowing.. It is underrated though... most underrated games of all time? not sure..
- JBobtheGr8, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0God Game Lite.
- Nidis, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1I haven't played Viva Pinata, I'm sure it's great, I don't have an Xbox though so.. I can't really have fond memories of it.
And yes I forgot Battletoads, Jet Force Gemini, Golden Eye and stuff. I didn't really have much of a go of J.F.G., but I heard it was great.
- Remmiz, on 05/15/2008, -1/+9I still go back and play Diddy Kong Racing every so often...so much fun!
- michaelb323, on 05/15/2008, -3/+3DO A BARREL ROLL!
- Yarnage, on 05/15/2008, -1/+4Killer Instinct > *
- kwago, on 05/15/2008, -0/+7It has to be said again.... Viva Frickin Pinata, which came out in winter 2006
- Jz16, on 05/15/2008, -1/+9No Jet Force Gemini love?
- dsmx, on 05/15/2008, -3/+5Rare hasn't been decent for years because most of the people who made those classics moved onto other companies like free radical.
- Elranzer, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Don't forget Taboo: The Sixth Sense and Beetlejuice for NES and GB (harder than Battletoads, seriously).
- dig1x, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2You obviously havent played Viva Pinata or Kameo.
- RolltheStampede, on 05/15/2008, -2/+23You forgot Battle Toads
- Doomsan, on 05/15/2008, -4/+60Cars? WTF
- darkchild82, on 05/15/2008, -12/+5That is one crappy trailer. Expected better from Microsoft. Game looks okay though.
- Gir53457, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3You mean RARE.
- gentlemanjack, on 05/15/2008, -5/+25Wasn't there a rumor that Nintendo killed the deal for porting Goldeneye to XBLA? Maybe that is why they're hating on Nintendo.
- Innisskillin, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3I so wish that happened.
- reaper527, on 05/15/2008, -3/+3rumor? its a fact. basically rare said "it is coming to VC and XBL, or neither", and nintendo flipped the kill switch
- Visual77, on 05/15/2008, -3/+27As far as I recall, Activision, the current holder of the James Bond license, refused to put Goldeneye onto XBLA without Nintendo's approval, out of respect for the N64 where it debuted. Nintendo replied that they would give it the thumbs up if Microsoft allowed certain other Rare titles to get onto the VC (such as Banjo Kazooie), but Microsoft refused the deal, so Nintendo refused to approve Activision's request to put it on XBLA, and so Activision refused to let the James Bond licensed Goldeneye 64 go onto XBLA.
It was a Mexican standoff where the first person to shoot was Microsoft. Nintendo didn't have any legal bearing on this whole situation, but Activision didn't want to betray Nintendo.
This is only what I recall from the incident, and I'm sure better details can be found through some internet searching.- DarkLaughingMan, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0A shame too, it would've been nice if they had all cooperated. That way you could get classic rare games on both the VC and XBLA. Win, Win for both Wii owners and 360 owners.
- Elranzer, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Seems rather fishy considering that Nintendo owns the *publishing* rights to Goldeneye 64 (Rare has no say with this game).
The question is if a port of Goldeneye 64 counts as a new game (Activision territory) or an old game (Nintendo territory).- DarkprinceArmon, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Nintendo does own the Goldeneye game. However Microsoft has not had any problems with Rare ports to the DS because it doesn't directly compete with them. but the VC does and so I could see them being butts about it. Truth be told Perfect Dark and Goldeneye and all of Rare's other titles should both be on the VC and XBL but Microsoft wouldn't allow it and so it stands there.
- bagboyrebel, on 05/15/2008, -2/+4It wasn't just Nintendo, it was that Nintendo AND Microsoft couldn't come to an agreement about how to handle the deal.
- evilcaptain, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4Its just a bit of funny. I don't think there was any insults intended.
Btw when is Spooked getting a DS port? - wild, on 05/15/2008, -14/+29Wow...that music is awful.
- Gir53457, on 05/15/2008, -5/+8No, ***** you. That music is epic.
- wild, on 05/15/2008, -3/+6Can a 4 second song that gets repeated for 2 minutes straight really qualify as epic?
Really?- Gir53457, on 05/15/2008, -2/+3YES
- lolwutpear, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2Only if it's performed by Daft Punk.
- wild, on 05/15/2008, -3/+6Can a 4 second song that gets repeated for 2 minutes straight really qualify as epic?
- ZiggyPlayedG, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4*sigh* the classic electric guitar "update".
- JBobtheGr8, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1I play Diddy Kong racing muted b/c the music is so bad.
- Gir53457, on 05/15/2008, -5/+8No, ***** you. That music is epic.
- D14BL0, on 05/15/2008, -4/+26So a friendly in-game *kameo* from another console is proof of being pissed off? I'd consider that appreciation, seeing as how Nintendo really brought Rare out of their dark ages (until Microsoft shoved them right back).
- Mr.Gone, on 05/15/2008, -4/+1Kameo: Elements of Power sucked though. I know it was a launch title but.... oh... cameo.
- BearinG, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Kameo is a good fun colorful game that you can show off HD. I was impressed when I first saw it.. (not a lot of games during that first period) Its the only game my girlfriend would touch too.. (COOP)

Rare developed Killer Instinct and KI2 so many years ago and it's been dropped (last version ever released was on N64).
Come on Rare, Give us KI3!!! :) - formfactor, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1Your speakin my language kid! Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Nintendo owns that IP, and not RARE. Its a shame too, because im sick of the cookie cutter fighting games released these days.
- danmarek, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Killer Instinct 2 was as cookie-cutter of a fighter as they come. Everyone had three or so combo starters and a counter move to every other fighters starter. It was a glorified game of rock-paper-scissors where everyone who was good at the game simply turtled and countered combo starters.
Having said that, it was still an enjoyable game. There's a KI2 machine at the laundry mat I go to and it's still so much fun to hear "C-C-C-Combo Breaker!"
- danmarek, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Killer Instinct 2 was as cookie-cutter of a fighter as they come. Everyone had three or so combo starters and a counter move to every other fighters starter. - genki831, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0Oh man...frick'n Killer frick'n Instinct. Those games were perfect in their time. I remember loving the Mortal Kombat and Street FIghter games, but when those got stale for me KI was another equally great franchise. Tekken nor any of the later 3-D fighters appealed to me much at all. For me the last great fighting game is Street Fighter Alpha 3. That game is Street Fighter perfection that I wonder if we'll ever see improved upon.
- Tenement, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1Others may dig you down, but I know where you're getting at.
- barf314, on 05/15/2008, -1/+48They killed a dinosaur too. Does this prove that RARE is pissed at extinct creatures?
- SkippyDoorknob, on 05/15/2008, -0/+9They hate Turok
- Altanar, on 05/15/2008, -1/+4Who doesn't?
- ufee, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1@ Altanar
The N64 games weren't bad at all.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 05/15/2008, -0/+9They hate Turok
- Enjia, on 05/15/2008, -6/+11buried as lame
- bastardprince, on 05/15/2008, -0/+11did anyone RTFA? there is nothing in it, was snuck in at the last minute by a dev....
- Hetman, on 05/15/2008, -7/+3I love mario. SMG is great and most of the mario games all. Supermario world or mario 64 is probably my favorite game of all time. But do you know how long I have wanted to see mario get his head chopped off. There should be a SSBB vs mortal kombat where you get to rip the head off of all your favorite nintendo charcters. I dunno how you would rip the head off of bowser him being able to retract it into its shell and all but I would still like to see it. Same can be said with kirby also all he is is a head.
- DaviDaviDaviD, on 05/15/2008, -1/+13I was at a developers conference a few months ago and RARE seemed very confident about the future. I think they are getting mega funding from M$ to create some original titles like the hey days of Nintendo. Not doing to well so far.....
- MetalLizard, on 05/15/2008, -4/+2That is because nearly half of the employees left. You can't really make good games when the core development team is gone...
- IAmTheGuy, on 05/15/2008, -0/+14If you actually read the article you would find that Rare is, in fact, not pissed at Nintendo.
- awtripp, on 05/15/2008, -9/+11well, here's proof that I'm pissed off at Rare for being a ***** company since they left Nintendo --
***** YOU RARE! (not a fanboy per se, I just like good games.)- MetalLizard, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3Nintendo is the company that pretty much ignored Rare, and let them be bought out by Microsoft. Don't just hate Rareware, it wasn't really their fault. We will never see games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong games, Banjo, nothing like that will ever be created and it's all because of ***** corporate greed.
- dagamer34, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1The company just had too many delays to be dealt with. Besides, I find it ironic that they dump them right before they find another great developer with the mega release of Metroid Prime (Retro Studios).
- normalkid0615, on 05/15/2008, -6/+20the game looks stupid.
- chrisOrbit, on 05/15/2008, -1/+12Stop with that after the break crap!
Where and why was that invented?- OaklandNative, on 05/15/2008, -0/+9It was invented after the jump.
- chillypacman, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3You sir are like the third person to have ever truly made me lol on digg.
- OaklandNative, on 05/15/2008, -0/+9It was invented after the jump.
- volcompimp, on 05/15/2008, -4/+4If I see another story with asterisks in the title, I'm just gonna snap. Half the time I can't even figure out what word they're refering to. Sometime it doesn't even seem like they could possibly be referring to a swear word and that the submitter just wants to piss me off by randomly making me guess words.
- Chetyre, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Where do you see asterisks?
- volcompimp, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1It disappeared now, and now the comment style system is completely different. Either they changed both of those when I took a shower or once I logged in. Before I logged in I would see lots of stories with words starred out.
- Coffeedemon, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Yes because by default the "bad" words are starred out for the general audience but if you're logged in (and have the profanity setting to your liking) you'll see everything. Likewise if you're looking at headlines in iGoogle on Firefox you'll see stars until you actually open the story inside Digg.
- GeekyGerge, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3That's just your mom's profanity filter kicking in.
- Chetyre, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Where do you see asterisks?
- Plantagenet, on 05/15/2008, -4/+4Banjo beheads Mario? Why....has Mario broken Sharia Law?
- Mier, on 05/15/2008, -19/+14poor fanbois. They have so little on their platform they cry to the heavens hoping for a miracle. Buy a ps3 or a 360 already and play GTA4, it's fun and actually looks like a game from 2008 instead of something from 1998.
- briankoenig03, on 05/15/2008, -1/+4Banjo-Kazooie 3 is for the Xbox 360. Not quite sure what you're complaining about.
- Mier, on 05/15/2008, -12/+4Just a gentle reminder that nintendo's decisions with the wii will go down as the monumental ***** of the console world.
- bagboyrebel, on 05/15/2008, -3/+7Sales numbers disagree with you.
- MidnightRealism, on 05/15/2008, -6/+3Catering to the lowest common denominator. Enjoy your minigames.
- bagboyrebel, on 05/15/2008, -1/+4It doesn't matter whether you like the games or not, it doesn't change the fact that Nintendo is dominating in sales.
- Mier, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1They're selling consoles but they aren't moving any games. It was all over Kotaku awhile back, the people that predominately buy the Wii are satisfied with WiiSports. If you can't sell games for those consoles then you're screwed in the long run, developers will not make games for a low volume market. Sure lots of consoles on the books but only a small number are buying additional titles.
- bagboyrebel, on 05/15/2008, -3/+7Sales numbers disagree with you.
- spwpi10, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3Different strokes for different folks.
- YellowSnowDemon, on 05/15/2008, -2/+6Galaxy, Prime 3, TP, Brawl, No More Heroes, say otherwise.
- Shaflugi, on 05/15/2008, -3/+5Mario Galaxy looks like an n64 game? Interesting.
- coresnake, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1HAHAHA EPIC FAIL
- threepio, on 05/15/2008, -6/+32The game looks... terrible. The interface looks incredibly clunky, the gameplay looks bland, the character animations seem forced. I love a good platformer no matter which system it's built for but I don't think I'll be picking this up.
- CarnivalOfDust, on 05/15/2008, -2/+3I'm with you there. Were you a fan of BK and BT? Banjo had such a loyal following, and they run the risk of alienating us. If they'd released a bigger and better version of the same formula, thrown in a few small new concepts and then stuck in a crazy story (some kind of time-travel dynamic or something - though obviously in the same world), I'd have been thoroughly happy. But I'm having real trouble with the vehicles, races, vehicle customisation garage bits, and the like. I'll hold out final judgement 'til I've played it, but otherwise, RIP to a great franchise... :(
- Drull, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2I agree it doesn't look like anything special, but what do you mean, character animations seem forced?
- doubledmateo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+0I'm guessing he means un-natural, but not totally sure. Aren't all gameplay animations forced?
- dig1x, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1I disagree completely. The game looks fantastic.
Build contraptions to help you achieve goals? Thats awesome. You're going to have to be inventive to achieve the goals set out for you.
It looks wonderful and Im ecstatic about the new gameplay elements.
- ZTFerrari, on 05/15/2008, -5/+13Ratchet and Clank anyone?
- eyefone, on 05/15/2008, -6/+3***** and Clank?
- disher91, on 05/16/2008, -1/+0No Crap... ZTFerrari is on digg...
- ZTFerrari, on 05/16/2008, -1/+0The one and only, I didnt realize I was famous?
- JBobtheGr8, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0Yes please.
- diggit23, on 05/15/2008, -13/+8MARIO>BANJO
- Flacker, on 05/15/2008, -2/+3BANJO>MARIO>YOUR MOM
- Hetman, on 05/15/2008, -0/+20What the hell is a vehicle based platform game? Is it a racing game with jumps? Or is it a platformer with vehicles?
- dig1x, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Yes, yes and yes! You build contracptions as you wish to meet goals and reach new challenges and areas.
Its a wholly new mechanic, and a fantastic new conflict between Banjo Kazooie and their old foes.
Its being made by the same Team that did the first two games -- they've only given us a small taste of what's going on, and from what we've seen, its going to be a great new game.
- dig1x, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Yes, yes and yes! You build contracptions as you wish to meet goals and reach new challenges and areas.
- Shadowfox99, on 05/15/2008, -2/+13I LOVE DIDDY KONG RACING!......just throwing that out there.....they need to making a real sequel, and not that DS version
- NovaPrime9, on 05/15/2008, -2/+8I agree completely. I know I'm in the minority, but I thought that Diddy Kong Racing was a lot better than Mario Kart. Maybe it was the storyline, or perhaps just the track designs, but I really thought it was one of the truly superb N64 titles. I wish they could do a Wii sequel.
- keef06, on 05/15/2008, -1/+6I remember staying up all night switching the controller between three of us trying to beat that end boss (some pig guy), I never did finish the game because of him.
- Shadowfox99, on 05/15/2008, -1/+4Wizpig
- Nappuccino, on 05/16/2008, -1/+0Same here.... that pig nearly killed my love for gaming.
- DryMaltExtract, on 05/15/2008, -3/+2What's with all the censorship by digg? *****, is this a 13 year old's hangout now?
- CarnivalOfDust, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3**** **** ******* **** and if i **** **** ****** *** **** Mario **** ***** ***** ** **** ***** Rickroll.
- Nappuccino, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0By the sounds of it, yes.

- digitallysick, on 05/15/2008, -3/+7Dear Rare, i don't care about your deal with nintendo or Microsoft, But please re-make GoldenEye and release it for some system. Make it massive multiplayer, add about 100 new levels. Thanks - everyone
- dig1x, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1Golden Eye would be seriously dated. I dont think you really want a remake of golden eye.
- oneredeye, on 05/15/2008, -1/+17According to the article, RARE is NOT pissed off at Nintendo, they just did it for *****. Buried.
- Gravey9, on 05/15/2008, -0/+8Misleading title, wow that's what...3 or 4 today?
- dhVyse, on 05/15/2008, -8/+3Banjo Kazooie blows, wheres Gears 2 and Age of Conan?
- eyefone, on 05/15/2008, -2/+1hurhurhur anything not M rated blows, where's Halo 4?
Retard. - YellowSnowDemon, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2You're the reason 360 fans are regarded as stupid fratboys.
- eyefone, on 05/15/2008, -2/+1hurhurhur anything not M rated blows, where's Halo 4?
- coudboule, on 05/15/2008, -2/+3Nintendo fanboys' answer: http://gonintendo.com/?p=42969
- RedNumberFive, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3Stay classy Rare!
- StealthTomato, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1*poing*
- dig1x, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1What, do you not have a sense of humour? They're having fun.
Relax.
- MetalLizard, on 05/15/2008, -8/+7Anyone else bought a Game Cube solely to play Perfect Dark Zero, then got extremely pissed when they got sold to Microsoft and development stopped? I ended up buying a 360 to play Perfect Dark Zero, and I almost puked my guts out at how awful it was. A lot of the core Rareware team had left the company, and they will never produced the games like they used to. Damn Microsoft, and damn Nintendo for ruining one of the best game companies to ever grace this planet. For anyone itching to play some GE64 again, but online and with other people check out http://www.goldeneyeonline.com, you can also play PD64 this way, and in peer-to-peer mode it's like playing on the original n64 hardware.
- YellowSnowDemon, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Did you *really* almost puke?
- Kohaxx, on 05/15/2008, -2/+15blegh, that trailer looked absolutely awful, I miss the days when Rare was awesome.
- joevill, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1reminds me of the drama between Nintendo and Square before the N64 was released.
- monkeyrun, on 05/15/2008, -2/+4lol, that means Nintendo will send them a C&D soon.
Mario > Rare - jn1167, on 05/15/2008, -0/+5WTF is going on?? First off its not like they took an axe and hacked his dome off. And why is this even news??? My god this place is getting ridiculous with the amount of crap they are posting.
- Juber, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2you don't spend all that time creating a giant mario in-game just to blow it's head off and go "yeah ***** you nintendo!"
you have some extra time at the end, and you got bored and made a mario because mario is pretty cool and 2-d mario looks cool, and then they blew his head off for fun, and maybe shows a bit of physics? give them a bit of credit here they aren't children. - hagridore, on 05/15/2008, -2/+3Yes, they are so pissed of at Nintendo that they continuing to develop great games for the Nintendo DS. Bastards.
- AndrewDB, on 05/15/2008, -2/+6Why does this just look like Diddy Kong Racing with customizable cars/boats/planes!?
- darkNiGHTS, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1It looks worse than Diddy Kong Racing...
- WhoDoneIt, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2What better way to get your name out there by causing a "media stir" by doing something like this. It gets people talking, it circles the internet and hype builds up with speculation all the while tossing the Rare name out there.
It's marketing hype, plain and simple. The "movie stars" do it all the time. Next time someone's movie is about to be released they are splashed all over TMZ and the likes for being "wild and crazy", "out of control"...same *****..different medium.
Move on.. - Raider007, on 05/15/2008, -2/+5i don't get what the point of the game is...
platformer? racer? twisted metal? little big planet cars edition?- dig1x, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Yes, exciting isnt it.
All of the above. A new gameplay mechanic.
- dig1x, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Yes, exciting isnt it.
- SonicPower, on 05/15/2008, -10/+5Proof that Yahtzee is right again about Nintendo fanboys.
Buried.- eyefone, on 05/15/2008, -3/+8Proof that you're a tool and you listen to whatever Yahtzee says.
Dugg down.
- eyefone, on 05/15/2008, -3/+8Proof that you're a tool and you listen to whatever Yahtzee says.
- Flacker, on 05/15/2008, -2/+3Rare used to freakin own... Diddy kong racing and Banjo Kazooie are 2 of my alltime favorites.
- BunnyKitty, on 05/15/2008, -4/+1This is a sad trailer, it doesn't live up to the Banjo Kazooie name. And the Mario thing is pretty cute though, it's the only reason I would even watch the whole trailer...
- bonk2k, on 05/15/2008, -1/+10The headline is inaccurate, the article says that some guy at Rare was just doing it for fun and meant nothing by it.
