Resident Evil 5 (PICS)

southflorida.metromix.com — We can't wait for March 13, 2009. For if all goes well, that's the day we'll get the newest in the ongoing' and never disappointing' "Resident Evil" saga.Set for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, "Resident Evil 5" will be the first in this survival horror series on the new systems.

        No, actually it would mean that she's a woman that kills zombies. The confusion is caused by the lack of hyphenation; it should read, "zombie-killing" women/woman.

        I think we need a RE pack for the XBL Arcade. I would love to play through some HD RE2 before 5 comes out.

        I love the originals (I'm playing them all through again now), but I like the new version a lot too. If you really boil the games down to the basics, RE4 isn't that different from the originals. The biggest difference is in the perspective and the aiming.

        The fixed perspectives in the originals was very cool, and it could set you up for some tense situations, but it was often a hindrance. I hate it when I'd back up, the view would change, and I could no longer see my target.

        And in my opinion, the aiming is pure improvement. I can't count the number of times, that I'd be hitting the wrong zombies, or worse, try to get headshots. In RE3, when they introduced explosive barrels in the environment, I ended up hitting zombies nearby the barrels instead of the explosives theselves.

        Inventory is probably the last biggest change. I jokingly call the originals "survival horror / inventory management" Holding only 8 items (or even only 6) does nothing but waste your time. Whenever you need a key item, you have to run back to a box. Whenever you're low on health - back to the box.

        I'd say the majority of the changes are improvements.

        @smurfen - The chainsaw guys with the bag on their head were ***** terrifying. The QTE even added suspense because it could come at any moment and were actually very well placed (unlike some other games). In all I would not say it was any less scary than the other games. Each one had some key aspects that were scary.

    Everything looks awesome but that soap-opera lighting really needs to disappear from the gaming industry. Always feel like taking off my sunglasses while playing. Except I'm not wearing any.

    I fell in love with it since I was 14 years old, Resident Evil 2 was my first one, and I've followed the series since then. that's almost 10 years.........

  • Amadeus2490, on 10/14/2008, -4/+8I don't really like the direction the series is heading in since part 4; the over-the-shoulder, action thing is the complete opposite of what the series was originally intended to be; it no longer feels claustrophobic, or scary. Like the Hollywood scary movies, the series now apparently relies entirely on jump scares.

      • Amadeus2490, on 10/14/2008, -0/+1A zombie is classically defined as "a wandering, soulless corpse". The running, jumping and growling "zombies" we've been seeing in movies and video games for the past decade ar the complete anti-thesis of a zombie!

        I saw that we should get another Jill Storyline (with her in the uniform, because it's ***** sexy) with the REAL zombies, and that it should have George Romero's Day of The Dead-level violence. I'd be happy then.

        Oh, and a minigame where you get to move the analog stick to have sex with Jill. That'd shock the children.
    • bakatrinh, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3Did you play RE4? There was barely any jump scares, much less than RE1-3. I think the old school RE depended more on environment, imagination scare, and it was a really slow payoff. I mean you're trapped in this Mansion and you gotta run around reading journals to see what happens to some guy and then the guy jumps out at you from behind to scare you. It was a really slow build up. The backward control on the old ones probably added to the scaryness. Everyone remembers the part where all those crows swarm at you, it wasn't scary because they're zombie crows, it's cause you feel you might die from not being able to aim properly. In RE4, it relied more on situational scary, most of the time you're backed up against a wall with hordes of "zombies" coming at you. You're trapped in a house with some Spanish guy fending off zombies trying to kick the doors down. You're in the back of a truck driving away as zombies are chasing you. I don't know about you but RE4 scared me more than the old ones. The game had better pacing, better control, and it wasn't overcomplicated with it's puzzles. It basically cut off all the slow buildups of the old ones and goes straight to the payoff everytime.

    I've got a toddler now, so I'll have to wait to play RE5 after bed time I'm afraid. Little too gory for the munchkin.
