Teen Movies Coming to Videogame

variety.com — Paramount is getting "Clueless," hanging with the "Mean Girls" and looking "Pretty in Pink" for its first slate of videogames. The studio is co-publishing casual games based on those three pics from its library for release later this year. It's splitting production costs with partner Legacy Interactive.

If you are in a recession hit the demographic that will spend the cash. Come on guys if game developers make more money selling to chicks it means they have more money to spend making newer and cooler "dude" games. It's all good!

    But rubbish still sells to a certain group of gamers which means publishers will still put out rubbish games.

    I mean you can either splash £10m (random number) on years of development on an epic title or buy a brand like has happened here, slap some Wii/Ds friendly interface on it and your're laughing.

  • JessicaSarahS, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4I think a Desperate Housewives game exists out there somewhere.... how profitable was that game? I'm assuming, not very. It was a game that had too narrow of a focus, only fans of the show would understand the story (if any), and the characters would only appeal to the fans, which were primarily older women. I'm sure the same thing would happen with this game attempt.

    Developers should just make good quality games that don't "talk down" or lower themselves to try and appeal to what they believe women want. There are already great games out there that do not dress themselves up in pink and flaunt themselves to capture women's attention, Portal, Guitar Hero, Mario Kart, etc. They do not have to market themselves as "girl entertainment". Even the Sims wasn't marketed as such, even though it is predominantly a female oriented game. The more these developers push girl-specific games, the more they're going to ostracize both men and actual female gamers and create a backlash against it. And the more likely people will keep saying these girl-oriented games are not "real" games. Then the cycle of games supposedly not appealing to women would begin again.

    I know, I know, tl;dr. -_-, but all these articles about grrrrl gamers, games for girls, etc., are really beginning to annoy me.
