Wii Reservations not as plentiful as originally thought?
theapprenticepaladin.com — I just got back from a local Gamestop and making a few calls. It would seem that there are *less* Wii units available (at least in Tampa) than there were PS3 units available for reserve! Anyone else seeing this in their city?

- mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -15/+13Not sure how many PS3s were avialable because I could give a rip, but at least in Pennsylvania it seems that more populated areas are getting 34 Wii preorders per EB Games/Gamestop store while smaller areas are getting 12. I know in the Philadelphia area stores were getting 34, however in Reading and it's surrounding areas they were only getting 12. Not sure what Lancaster and Pittsburgh look like at the moment.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -26/+4It sounds pretty personal. I'm thinking Nintendo doesn't like Florida...or you.
I'm kidding. I'm sure you'll be able to pick on up off the shelf at a major retailer. I wouldn't worry. - MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -8/+22Most Useless Blog Entry. Ever.
Oh, and also due to the update, it's now innaccurate. - merr, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1I went to a GameStop here in Ann Arbor and I was 18th in line. They let the first 14 in and just said "sorry." =/
I guess I'll just wait and hope I manage to get one at launch somehow. If not, I suppose I am patient enough to wait a couple extra months to get one. - kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -7/+516 ps3's 14 wii's here near seattle washington, thats the 3 gamestops i know of close to me. all the same.
- Weasek, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Well, I stood in line at 9:00 with a relatively short line and they only sold 5 units. People were pissed. Especially because one gentleman was turned down since he knew a guy that worked there, however, it turns out after selling the 4th unit they stopped taking orders. When we asked the gentleman that was turned down for knowing an employee if he got a Wii, he said no with a large smirk on his face. Needless to say many of us filed complaints.
By the way, this was located in the Galleria Mall in Johnstown, PA. - TrainwreckX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@kingfoot
On the East Side around Redmond and Kirkland we had 12 PS3s per store and 14-20 Wiis. Weird... - voets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i got mine preordered im all set
- xboxmods, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1my stores only got a few, in the valley forge area, and they were sold out before the stores opened :(.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13I got my preorder, was #1 in line. My penis is HUGE. Much bigger than yours.
- MicHalpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2anyone think that maybe Nintendo wants less Wiis in "Game Stores" and more Wiis in the stores that everyone goes to not just gamers since that does seem to be their sales pitch for the console that they want your grandma to go buy one for herself she is more likly to go to Walmart than to EB.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -26/+4It sounds pretty personal. I'm thinking Nintendo doesn't like Florida...or you.
- mobil1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Why all this pre-order allocation hype? EB and Gamestop aren't the only stores that will be selling Wii. Walk into Walmart or Target on release day and grab one off the shelf.
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27I have a correction: it turns out there were 30 Wii units available - but the Gamestops had opened early at seeing the line to sell to them. So if you didn't arrive 2 hours early, then forget it.
Don't digg this article - it was incorrect.- Dimensio, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3From where did you obtain your information? I was told by a questionable source (not an EBGames/Gamestop employee) that stores would recieve a total of twelve consoles, with three being typically snatched up by employees. There was a line at that store, and he also told me that I should check another store, as the one where he was had reached 'capacity' (there were nine people already lined up).
I then rushed to another store, arriving at 9:55, but I was the first in line (one woman was there before me, but she was just picking up a game for her son, not a Wii preorder). Once inside, the lone employee told me that he had no idea how many units the store would recieve, but it would "hopefully" be enough to cover all preorders.
As I was the first to put money down at that store, and because I paid in full, I'm not too concerned, but I am curious about the source of your new information. - johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8I just called up the local stores and said "How many did you have"?
Most of them said 30 - 35, so that's where I got my info. - MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42? I was there a little over 3 hours in advance. I'm #7 on the list...
- ChildeRoland420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I called up the local store to ask on Thursday and they said "I can't tell you." I tried again Friday after about 4 in the afternoon and he told me that they sold out but he couldn't tell me how many they had sold.
Is this some company policy, or is Kevin just being a dick??? Really, I want to know.

- flizzoyd, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5My EB had 34 units for preorder. I was like 40th in line.
- KANSUO, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6The GameStop I just got back from had 12 units supposedly available, 4 of which seemed to be taken by employees. Pretty sure the rest of the units were taken by people waiting before the store opened.
- usergentoo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4I went to preorder (at gamestop) and was the fifth in line. The manager said he already sold out. I asked how many did they get and said only 5. Thats pathetic only 5 consoles.
- mjenkins, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Germantown, MD...12 Wii alloted to store: 4 given to employees, 4 given to other stores supposedly, 4 remaining for pre-order. Before the opening of the store there were 8 people who showed up for pre-order. Another woman showed up after the store opened. The manager kindly let the 4 of us who were front of the line into the store early so we could be out of the cold but we couldn't purchase until 10am. At 10:05 another store called from Montgomery Village, MD and said they had finished their line and still had Wiis remaining for pre-order, not sure how many.
I was #1 for the pre-order so I got mine :) - Nitro420, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9I arrived at 9:30 to get one of the 19 at my EB. I was confused that there were only like 4 people there waiting and they let us into the store and said, "Wii's are gone.. we finished the pre-orders at 8am. Some people were here all night." Apparently they just handed the pre-orders out at 8am, 2 hours before the store opened.
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7That's exactly what happened to me. I didn't expect people to camp out for the Wii, since there would be "plenty".
Seems that demand is so high, we'll have to camp out anyway at launch date at this rate. - kevinquirk, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Wow, where are you located? We were there at 8:30 and we were the first ones.
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7That's exactly what happened to me. I didn't expect people to camp out for the Wii, since there would be "plenty".
- sidhighwind, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Most stores around Indianapolis, In are only getting around 12 to 15. All stores that i called were out by 10 am.
- daremo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5My EB had the same number Wii units as PS3. I was #18 and they had 17 units ; ;
- enzyte, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3My EB in Delafield, WI (in the sticks) handed out 10 tickets to early birds prior to opening at 10. Looks like its an overnighter in the ToysRUs parking lot on 11-19.
- Dakusan, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3There were 14 or 16 wiis at our location and only 13 people showed up, i was #2 in line ^-^.
- Xarou, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3There were 14 at my GS and 32 at my EB... guess which line I stood in? If you said GS then you were right... unfortunately for me. I was fricken 18th in line too.
- kevinquirk, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2A few EB/GS stores in Chicagoland claimed to have 12. Ours offered 11 preorders...
- acidone, on 10/12/2007, -7/+212 in Canton, Ohio
- neiltc13, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2I'm sick of all this crap about "oh my god will I get a Wii or not?". Who cares how many units are coming to the USA overall or how many each store is going to get? If you get one, great, if you don't, you'll have one in a week or two anyway!
Where I live I preorder all my consoles online. My Xbox 360 was ordered on the day they announced the release date and price, back in August 2005 and on launch day a few months later I was greeted at my door by a delivery man with my console no later than 10am. My card was only charged when the order was sent out and I wasn't forced to buy anything I didn't want. I've ordered from the same place for Wii.
I find it quite shocking that people are getting SO excited about this so far away from launch. I also find it quite surprising that Nintendo can actually give an accurate figure to Gamestop/EBGames at this stage. No doubt it will change come November and people will be disappointed/happy and people will come on here and post more boring stories about it. - addrake, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2There were 12 available at the Game Stop in Battle Creek, MI. I got number 5. I showed up at 9:45 and they opened at 10, only 4 people waiting. Not too much demand here in Michigan I guess.
- jswinehart, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1There were 14 here in kalamazoo (+4 for employees, EB) with a like from like 5 am on. Started turning people away by like 830 when they werent going to have enough. The other gamestop in town was sold out within 5 minutes also. So maybe it was just Battle Creek.
3rd in line.. cant wait - dexbot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Demand may be low in your area. Near CMU here in Michigan we had 16 units and about 35+ in line.

- JC4P, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3My gamestop had 19.
- KiriA500, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1My friend waited outside GameStop at 8:00, with 12 people ahead of him. He mentioned about 15-20 people after him, and they all got a reserve. I guess New Mexico gets more Wii systems than PS3 systems...as they only reserved 16, which might be supplied.
- Dugg2Death, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2My local Gamestop had 30, sold out in 10 min of opening... can we let the people who actually WORK have a chance at getting a Wii soon please (*eyes* Gamestop)
- jumba911, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Wow..most comments got dugg down for saying the same thing
- imac12, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2My Gamestop was sold out at 8:30... 30 minutes before the doors were supposed to even open for preorders. Being a little pissed off, I ran up the road to the EB and got there as the doors opened at 9:00. I was 13th in line for 16 pre-orders.
- Diggtatorship, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4I can't believe that an article who's own creator called innacurate, and asked people not to digg, still made it to the front page.
- Hearshot, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2my gamestop, 34 wiis, 8 ps3s. i got the 34th 1hour before store opened
- exick, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Opposite at the Gamestop I went to. The game-selling drone behind the counter said they were getting ~15 PS3s and ~30 Wiis.
- skull24, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1My local EB has a lot Wiis left. Getting a Wii will not be that hard.
- wrathofdoom, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Unless you live in Siberia, I think you are lying. Considering the minimal allocation I don't think there were any preoders left after 10:30 this a.m.
- Aiwanei, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4wrathofdoom, I went and preordered mine at 10:35, and I was #21 out of 24.
- ViRaZ, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1My local EB (which is the only EB in the county, no GameStop) and they only had 14. I had to work so I had a friend stay in line for me and pay. He was the sixth one in line too. w00t! Wii party all weekend for my closest friends! The guy that stayed in the line is playing first too!
- b04155, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I pre-ordered mine today at a gamestop in queens. I was number 20, number 19 was just in front and other than that the store was vacant. I was also told they still had a ton of spots left on their wii pre-order list.
- sketchstudios, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1my game stop in Los Angeles had a total of 30 wiis, however the employees told us they gave up their own personal reserves that they are entitled to for the customer. (if that was true or not I dont know but it sounded legit) so they took down a total of 30 names at 8am, the same 30 people came back at 10am when they opened to actually finish the transaction, along with all the rest of the lazy people who couldnt get up out of bed that were complaining about how they were misled that they thought they needed to be there at 10am. -.-'
oh, I was #21 =D - huggiesmiff, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I dont think a wii will be that hard to get, but I got 2 pre ordered anyways.
My local gamestop in brooklyn had 16 PS3's (i was number 16 in line, got stuck with a core). They opened at 10:00 am, I got there at 9:15. Gamestop in Rockerfeller Center had 30 Wii's, I was number 26. They opened at 7:35, I was there at 7:00
The Nintendo store in NYC has been taking pre-orders like its no ones business. They must know they are getting hundreds- b04155, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1considering it's a flagship store i'd be surprised if that single store got less than a couple hundred of them.
- Aiwanei, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1hopefully they won't cancel your multiple wii preorders like they cancelled multiple ps3 preorders
- mazda3ndp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0in paramus nj, the gamestop had 5 wii's. Tell me that is not a bunch of crap. luckily I was 1 of those 5.
- Dunadan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1In Greensboro, NC the closest EB games to my house had 36 available and also that they had gotten more available than any other store around town. I was number 37 so I just missed out. Luckily in case of just such an event, I preordered one online from lik-sang.com all the way back in April. It may not get here launch day because of shipping, but I'll be getting one within the first week.
- optimus008, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Live in Orlando and the guys at ebgames said, that the would have plenty more
wii units before Xmas. - thepolkapunk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Blog is incorrect by author's own admission. View the article and see for yourself. Marked as inaccurate.
- Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0*Fewer* not *less*.
/grammar nazi - Thezeppelin62, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1my EB had 10- suburb of chicago.
- Everman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I'm sure they'll have more available as bundles soon. They don't make more than $20 per console, it's games and peripherals they need to sell. Perhaps this manufactured shortage will help drive up the possibility of someone purchasing a bundle?
- andreo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I don't think it really matters with the Wii. I don't see much of a problem with supply. Nintendo hasn't had any production problems and they want to make sure that everyone that wants a Wii for before the holidays has one.
So I won't be spending any time camping in the cold, rain, snow, or who knows what else for a Wii. I will simply get up at a decent time on launch day, head over to Target, and pick one up along with a copy of Zelda. - Arcadian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6For people who still want to pre-order a Wii - Toys R Us hasn't started theirs yet. The one I work at will be taking theirs the 29th, and should have more then EB Games and Gamestop.
- Nerevar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Our EBgames (here at Purdue) only had 7 preorders for the Wii! WTF you figure they would know that an engineering school has tons of nerds.
- tyoungbe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Just sounds like fantastic marketing on Nintendos part. Test the waters for the wii two days after seeing what Sony's got up their sleeve, and make a decision as to allocations after that. Now that Nintendo knows that they've got nothing to worry about with the hardcore crowd, they can make decisions about big retailer allotments for everybody else. Let's face it, the average consumer who isn't a hardcore gamer will buy there system somewhere like Walmart or Target not Gamestop.
- theRobot, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4DON'T BUY A Wii AT EB GAMES OR GAMESTOP!!
These kind of stores don't care about selling you a new product. They make their money by ripping off kids - buying their still decent games for $7.50 and re-selling them for $45. The reason they are not allowing more than a handful of preorders is because they want you to continuously return to the store to check and see if they have a Wii in, if not maybe you'll buy a dramatically marked up used game. Best Buy, Circuit City, Toys R Us, etc will all have plenty of Wii's so just wait until Nov. 19 and go buy one there.- TrainwreckX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7People who shop at EB/Gamestop are total airheads. I pre-ordered from a large chain store that started taking pre-orders a month ago.
- aiken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Sounds like you need to start a game store that pays "kids" $20 for their used games and sells them for $30 or something. You'd corner the market. I wonder why nobody else is doing it?
- curtis3389, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The actual reason they aren't allowing more pre-orders is thanks to Xbox 360. My local store had over 200 pre-orders on launch day, and they received 2 Xbox 360's. This wasn't an isolated event. It happened all over the country. Thousands of people received a call on or around launch day that came off as "We're sorry, but we ruined your Christmas. Have a nice day."
- ErinIsADrunk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1my guess is that since the Wii is suppose to cater to both the gamer and the non-gamer, EB/GameStop want to make sure that they have plenty of consoles available for walk-ins. My other guess would be that they haven't received an exact number for the # of units they are getting and are airing on the side of caution to avoid another 360 debacle.
- Battousai, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Lehigh Valley Mall's EB(X) had 30. Don't know about the other EB in the mall (yes there are two), or if they were even offering reservations.
- unclefrank, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1At the gamestop in my mall they had 30 pre orders available. as far as i know they had about 6-8 for the PS3. Also the EB Games right down the other end of the mall had 40 pre orders available.
The manager happened to mention the reason there were only 30 available was because they didn't get word on their exact system allocation. - x0rtrunks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The most negatively dugg story ever
- theonlybigboss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Same in largo fl
for those of you that don't know were that is, its about 40 miles east of tampa - bbdude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1My Gamestop had 30 Wiis, 14 PS3s. Buried as innacurate.
- ChildeRoland420, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Was it in a mall?
- domokun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Got mine around 12:30PM.
Walked in, asked if they had any preorders left. paid for it. walked out.
Miami, FL- melkore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I did the exact same thing. I took an early lunch at 11:30 went to EB Games. They were out but the manager said that the Gamestop had 3 when he called 10 min. ago. I hauled ass over to GameStop and picked up the last reserve.
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone know the chances of getting a Wii at Walmart or Best Buy on launch day? It would seem as if EB/Gamestop only got about 20% of the initial launch allotment.
- LoompaOompa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0i got my reservation this morning in Dallas. there were only 16 available and I got to gamestop 2 and a half hours early. I was still number 12 in line. Where the hell are you guys that you're getting 30 or more?
