until english version available...- spamzor, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5The site seems a little too bare... i'm not a fan :/
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13That translation is terrible. Use Excite, it's leagues better.
http://excite.co.jp/world/english/web/?wb_url=http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/&wb_lp=JAEN&wb_dis=2 - chair, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20I'm so glad the Australian language is going to be available, no more having to translate from American! Think of all the Zs i'll save, but then it's gonna cost some Us :/
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42Yes excite is better. But it had this gem when talking about the news function.
"WiiConnect24 automatically acquires the news of all a domestic, overseas genres. If the power supply of Wii is turned on by the sense that reads the newspaper in the sink, the hot poo can be confirmed at any time on the television screen every morning."
I repeat... "the hot poo can be confirmed at any time" - pokemogu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/features/wii_channel.html
Internet Channel:
Browser from OperaSoftware with Adobe Flash
Internet Browser is optional (but until June 2007, you can download it free of charge) - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's awesome that it's got a browser and Flash... I hope it's Flash 8, that would be sweet. Although I have to mention: The actual menus seem very "Flash-like" although they probably aren't actual Flash.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Also, did anyone else notice the the controller seems VERY wobbly? The guy is sitting 2 feet from the screen and the cursor seems incredibly wobbly and inaccurate.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And one more comment... Check out the TV they're using. Sure seems like an HD LCD to me... Maybe the menus can be HD but the actual games are SD?
- Nitro187, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2http://www.wii.com/en_US/
US one now available! - SimpleC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was a bit skeptical at first as to how the hub for the wii would look like but now that I've seen the interface I have to admit that the idea of browsing different channels with the wiimote is much more user friendly and intuitive than ps3's (psp derived) interface or even xbox live (plus I like the fact that online gaming might be free).
There are huge buttons for easy access and clarity (and a zoom feature for the browser like in the ds) and the idea of surfing channels is just like watching TV, anyone that uses TiVo, directTV, or another satellite service would see the similarities. The only concern I have is if the wiimote pointer on screen. I noticed it was shaking a little and I wasn't able to see a settings channel where you can adjust sensitivity (it's probably there).
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49Well, after digging on the japanese site for a bit, it seems to have answered quite a bit about how the console's going to be. I like it. Built in weather and news are certainly nice features for a game console. Honestly, I'd rather know if it's raining tomorrow than if I'd beaten some guy on the planet named "XxX n00bEat0r XxX" at playing Galaga.
Good job Nintendo.- Gunite, on 10/12/2007, -26/+10Tell me about it - I am so stoked about having the news and weather in a game console. I hope they find a way to real time feed that weather info. into your games so you can get live updates. I mean I'd hate to be playing Zelda, and then have the weather outside change on me and not know about. (I'm really intense when I play, I don't notice anything that's not on the screen. That's how I beat Mario in only 18 hours).
The BEST feature though is the wrist band on the remote control when viewing the news. Seriously, I've broken like 3 high def TVs throwing my remote control at various news people. Mostly the O'Reilly dude. - Nicolasd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35@Gunite
Your post is pretty lame but you inadvertently bring up a nice point... Developers could use that weather info to use it in game... It really means you could have the real weather appear in a game like Animal crossing for example...
That'd be pretty nice... - dustedotnet, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1The in-game updates on the weather would be awesome, but they'd have to make sure there were a feature to turn it on/off and that it wouldn't cover a game's HUD.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12dusteddotnet: I think you missed the whole point. In-game weather means the weather that is IN THE GAME ie. In hyrule, there will be a rainstorm when you're having a rainstorm in real life.
- Gunite, on 10/12/2007, -26/+10Tell me about it - I am so stoked about having the news and weather in a game console. I hope they find a way to real time feed that weather info. into your games so you can get live updates. - aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Having a TV that scrapes useful content like this for us is just great, and yes, SO much better than seeing what points or awards my friends have.
- davidv, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5Are you serious? And yet the 'PS3 can't be a computer because we already have computers' argument only applies to Sony why?
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11They did it in a useful, 'your mom could casualy check it from the couch' sort of way, its more of a dynamic television channel than a computer.
Nowhere in this sytem do they do anything along the lines of booting up linux and opening up a word processor. Other than the web browser, which I bet will see limited usage, This isnt a replacement of the PC, or even a competition to it. Its information brought to your television on command in a very slick way. - Micrll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12What I like is that nintendo has not hyped this part of the console up.
It looks like just something bonus that they threw in. I mean seriously if you don't want it its cool you don't use it but still...Having Flash video that can play directly on a browser is awsome...ooooo might be able to use it to watch DL.tv on it ...maybe... - Micrll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Whoops Sorry I meant that having flash video that can play directly on my TV would be awsome.
- 4889, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I completely agree. I don't really need or want a "media hub".
But a game console? with useful features?
Count me in.
And thats the difference really. Other companies (who shall remain nameless) seem to be in a rush to dominate the living room, but honesly, the household PC (or mac) will probably remain the "hub" for awhile still, so instead of focusing on forcing your GAME console to look as if its the end-all be-all media-center-toaster-whiz-a-boo, maybe just a clever, utilitarion addition or two might just give you an edge...
look on the brightside, that way you dont have to spend a majority of your budget pushing "next gen" video formats that theres no demand for. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Are you serious? And yet the 'PS3 can't be a computer because we already have computers' argument only applies to Sony why?"
Because it also costs as much as a computer. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Having a TV that scrapes useful content like this for us is just great, and yes, SO much better than seeing what points or awards my friends have."
That's fine because that's your preference, but using your own logic how is making Playskool Weeble people to carry around on your Wiimote "useful?" I think the Wii is cool but I still think it's fun comparing the scores I've gotten on games with my friends scores. Xbox Live Achievements were a brilliant marketing move that Sony is copying (but they're calling them "Entitlements" so it's original, right?). - aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because then you dont have to remake your charecter and all your settings everytime you go to someone's house to play.
I used to hate that at halo lan parties, 4 different xboxes, some without my info, some with outdated settings, wastingso much time getting everyone made on the new xbox. this would solve all that.
- funtownarcade, on 10/12/2007, -10/+22OMG this is AWESOME! Best dashboard ever.
- those, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Looks like heaps of the games are bundles of fun.
trauma center and cooking mama look sweet. Also that shooting range one.
Damn it. I think they all look good! - aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Anyone care/able to translate the widget titles in the first video?
Watching this, reminds me of the orignial xbox dashboard, with the pulsating 3D graphics, and then it makes me chuckle a little about how much better this is.

Hopefully that news reader is really RSS, and we can set it up to read digg!
Digg needs more Japanese speaking people! I want to know!- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yes, and you can save the characters you want to take around onto the Wiimote, says the video! =D
- jfujita, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Where can I get that Nintendo TV?
- those, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29here is the official Wii preview trailer from Nintendo
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/topics/wii_preview/movie/lineup.html- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Holy *****! That video was amazing...!
And do I see a new Puzzle Fighter game there?! - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Crazy video! The game looked puzzle-fighter-ish, but it didn't play quite like puzzle fighter.
All in all, some of these games look awesome. - Harabeck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1holy crap! did you see the guy drumming with two wii-motes? And the other where the guy wielded it like a sword looked so cool.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Holy *****! That video was amazing...!
- jfujita, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Seems like you can buy Virtual Console games and new channels from the Shopping Channel using credit card or pre-paid card.
- nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Yeah, you can use your credit card or buy a pre-paid card from a retailer.

- ChrisRX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm guessing he meant flash 8. I'm a linux user and i'm still stuck on flash 7 which means I can't view any of those videos on the wii site, youtube on the other hand doesn't use flash 8, so I can watch that
- Megatog615, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you use this tutorial, http://xubuntu.wordpress.com/2006/08/14/flash-9-for-xubuntu/ , you can trick some sites into thinking you have Flash 9, and the videos on http://www.wii.com/en_US/ will work.

One can only hope.
And I hope that they make it so I can use a regular USB HD to store content for wii, and without reformating. My iPod is ready to sign up for this duty...or my flash drives, SD card, Other USB HD....
- Micrll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the coolest part of that one on the photo stuff is at the bottom its photo graphs mixed with VIDEO so possibly the wii can play video's from memory?
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is so sick, especially with the confirmed Opera browser, and other things, like shopping and weather.
The only thing, is that the Menu is looking a little clunky. I hope there is some way to organize all your stuff, it looks like right now, it is all on one page, virtual consol and everything. - ajaxfontura, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/index.html
So does 2006 12.2 mean December 2, 2006?- Indolentron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes, Dec 2 is the official release date for Japan. Allegedly it will be Nov 19th for North America but I don't think we've heard that directly from Nintendo yet.
- Hyprtime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The U.S. presentation is tomorrow, so we'll have official confirmation then.
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -18/+1Guess they're shooting themselves in the foot now....
- Hyprtime, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10So, I'm going to be reading news and using a browser at a resolution of ... 480p? I appreciate the inventiveness of the idea, but its practical application seems to be ... problematic given the technology Nintendo is working with.
However, like with any new tech product, I'll be waiting to see it in person before making any judgments. November can't come fast enough for me.- shroom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Its not high def, but 640x480 is a good resolution for your average TV.
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It will look just fine and be a great addition to any home theatre system. I cannot wait for this console after seeing some of these videos. Nintendo makes things fun just naturally ^^
look at the avatar designer thing! I mean that alone looks like something I could play with for a while to get my avatar put together =P
Other game creators step back and watch as Nintendo shows you how it is done, once again. - Abatrour, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Considering that the ps2 and xbox usually had an output of 480i, this is a huge improvement. I wonder if down the road, we could somehow have 720i.. since the system can output at 480p, it may be able to do up to 960i.. 480x2. I think we may need some new video cables though :/
- icantdrawanime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you've ever used a monitor at 1600x1200 res youll appreciate big fonts more
- Scad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I have to admit... I'm freakin' excited about the Weather and News features. Looks like I'll be starting every morning with booting up the ole' Wii to see if I need my raincoat or not.
- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3I could just leave my TV on a cable news channel by default....or wake up to Wii, like you say. I like the latter too. ^_^;;;
- drvelocity, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I'm pumped about the Wii and all, but what's so special about checking the weather on the Wii? You think you'd really rather turn on the Wii, and use the 3d remote to point your way through the weather menu than.. I don't know.. click your computer mouse once? Or if it really excites you that much, set up one of the many auto-weather updating progs.
Of course if you didn't have a computer that would be one thing but you just posted to Digg so you can't use that as a defense. :)
The Wii looks spectacular! Nintendo and Apple are two companies that really GET it. - jfujita, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Wii is made to stay on 24/7 so you dont need to boot. In the interview by the creators of Wii, they want to make it so you can quickly check the weather or search on the web while your watching TV or your in the living room. It is not meant to replace the PC. They know that people will still use their PCs for normal internet use.
- BIGmog, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1You could always just turn on the weather channel.

- chemicalrxn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If Google's currency converter is correct (and the price is the same in the US) :
Virtual Console Games:
Famicom (NES): $4.25
Super NES: $6.80
N64: $8.00
Sports: $40.00
and the Wii:
Dec. 2nd @ $212 - Smoktiludy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wii Sports is bundled in the U.S. version.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6157573.html
Japanese version doesn't have any game bundle, which is why it is $38 cheaper. - Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ Smoktiludy:
They don't have that bundle, but they do have "Beginner's Wii Bundle" which features 9 different types of beginner Wii games + 1 Wiimote for 4,800yen. For them, Wii Sports costs the same amount, but if they buy the other "Beginner's" bundle, they get a free remote, a value of 3,800yen. Do we have those 9 games in the US?
- theblt, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5Hmm..not that I'm not a Wii fan, but why is having news and weather soooo important to have on a console? Weather.com + RSS feeds work rather well for me.
I know this comment will be buried because of all the Wii fans in here.- ewok85, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Because when you are playing on your console you aren't at your PC ;)
- DarkZen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Its not needed...then again why not? personally i would use it and i got my wii preorder free so i guess ill get a chance =) (www.congablast.com)
and yeah..i know mod me down if you wish.
Either way i think being able to do things like that without having to hax the living heck out of the system is good. Interconnecting devices makes things easier i think, then again i can use my cellphone as a tv remote as well... - SuperMank, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I dugg you down because you used that last line to try to save yourself from being buried.
- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I think that having multi-functionality tools on a television set is a good thing when done well. Even cable television channels don't provide an interactive menu to jump all the way around the world to check different countries' weather!
Even weather.com, for example, involves typing in City Name, Zip Code, etc. There are also ads splattered all over the site. It's quick and easy with the Wii, so I think they did a good job. Maybe more kids'll read the news this way? - BIGmog, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I don't watch the news, weather, or shopping channels on cable TV. Why would I watch them on Wii?
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -19/+0HaHa, it's gonna come out way later than even the PS3, on December 2!
- SuperMank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0NYTimes says 19/11 for the US

It comes out in the US like November 19th, which is like 2 days later. Good enough.
At least its on a weekend, when camping to get one wont be hard. LOL
- SuperMank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0NYTimes says 19/11 for the US
- 1310nm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Is there going to be a keyboard for the Wii, or are you suppose to load a set of bookmarks from a drive share on your network and be chained to those?
So far, the Wii is looking really awesome.- icantdrawanime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm hoping voice recognition for inputting web pages... But then again, No one would ever be able to get to a website with "blue" in the link
- goerg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1you can say against nintendo what you want i still think zelda is one of the best rpg's ever
(however, that conductor video looked awsome xD ) - Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Nintendo--you are all geniuses. I'm excited just for the virtual "Mii" hang out on Wii! Brilliant.
Things I like and don't mind $250 for:
-Miis are organized alphabetically or by sex! Then you can select which one you really like and save it to the remote to take around. Cool!
- The news channel. I want to read more about this, because if I can read Japanese and English news on TV through the Wii, they're amazing.
- Checking the weather (full week forecasts, too!) in various spots you've designated. The demo shows full on prefectural weather news, as well as global forecasts. It should be pretty easy to jump around the world this way =D All with that cool, jumpy menu.
- (This is probably Japan only feature:) You can use the Wii to send/receive quick mails and photos to family members' mobile phones over WiiConnect24! It basically acts like a message board for those accessing it to put photos and notes onto it for others to access. I doubt I can use this in America, though...?
Anyway, just thought I'd translate that page for some of you guys...- Micrll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6well after looking a the http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/features/wiiconnect24.html
website it appears that you can send the mail between console/phone/computer/other console so I am going to hope that its not just a japan only thing.
might not be the best from wii-> computer but the other way arround would be useful (again bonus feature I was not expecting)
Dude...I hope they allow US systems to access the japanese news. Always could help my studying and keeping up with some of what happens in Japan.

Imagine being able to have stuff as WIIMC (Wii Media Center ala XBMC) in it, and plenty of other stuff one cannot simply imagine of.

- Equistatic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1queuing up in line?
- ChrisRX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think the weather and news service is actually a pretty clever idea to get more people drawn to gaming.
Picture the scene, your mum is a non-gamer, she's sitting watching tv and wonders what the weather will be like on the weekend, and switches to the wii.
Now she's got the wii switched on, found her weather report, the controller in her hands, and she's been watching you play earlier on in the day and thinks "well one little round of golf can't hurt, it doesn't require much effort" and pops in the wii sports disk.
Before you know it she's jumping and swinging the controller around like mad playing tennis.
And that's what these extra features are all about- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Finally, someone gets it! =D
- gcraick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2People are getting excited by the.... weather.. wow..
I think there are a few more exciting possibilities there as well than simply just that.
With google just about now having a nice array of online wordprocessors, spreadsheets, and things all saveable, useable online in a browser.. there is the possibility of doing all that sort of thing as well (if that's your thing) from the comfort of your couch. And also seeing as the Opera browser looks fairly full featured in the examples (notice the google maps example), it should be possible to watch google video or youtube right there on your couch.. People only have to aggregate certain online video content into a self-contained website (which has started already) -- and you have as many 'channels' as you like on your TV.
Only problem would be the lack of keyboard of course.. but with the 360 not even including a full featured browser, and no firm details from Sony about how they are going to do it - the Wii already looks to have a nice extra feature, with many, many, possibilities. - artgod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1about the wii... how long is it going to take for you damn arm to get tired holding up that controller. Try gaming for an hour with you arm out strait. All the wii kids are going to have for arms like popeye.
- mdamico, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I find it kind of humorous that people are upset that they might get some exercise while playing a video game.
A boxing game where you hold the controllers up in front of your face to protect yourself and actually throw punches seems 1000 times more fun that pressing A or B on a controller. And if I can get some exercise in the process that sounds great.
I see a lot more exercise possibilities for the Wii as well. Strap a Wii controller to the wheel of an exercise bike, and the game could read the speed you are pedaling, let the wheel turn and the remote would handle the turn(no extra hardware needed in the exercise bike (just a way to mount the remote to the wheel and a game that understands the movement). A track and field game where you strap a remote to each ankle that could read running and jumping. A rowing machine with a remote attached to each arm.
Seems like a lot of potential for the Wiimote. - Provo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0............with chubby cheeks and fat bellies.

- crashingechelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well I'm sold on buying a Wii when it comes out.
- donquixote235, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If you click on "North America - English" and then choose the "More about Wii..." link at the bottom, it takes you to a page that shows a picture of somebody holding the chuk in their hand, next to the date "11.19.2006". That makes the Nov 19 date pretty official as far as I'm concerned, even though they haven't actually made the official announcement.
- MCHampster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What do you mean they haven't actually made the announcement? It was made a couple of hours ago during the NA press briefing.
- HenryFatass, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hmmm...Wii.com is blocked by Websense in the "Non-Traditional Religions and Occult and Folklore" category.
Someone at websense doesn't like Nintendo fanboys... - YouKnowHim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I havent been this excited since the release of the SNES, i got $500 towards my Wii Day so far, originally it was PS3 money, but I can get waaaay more for my $ with the Wii.
- Provo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0And, we wonder why people in the World are getting fatter. I'll listen to my podcast while working out.

Just my 2 Cents. - zhanghaocom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0NOV. 19TH 2006, OFFICIAL WEBSITE CONFIRM THE LAUNCH DATE!!!!!?
