Xbox 360 price drop on the way soon?
itwire.com.au — If a promotion in a printed UK advertising catalogue is anything to go by, the cost of the Xbox 360 Premium console with wireless controller and 20Gb hard drive is set to fall to the cheaper cost of the Xbox 360 Core system, just in time to spoil the launch of the PS3.

- Darksaviour69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9 makro do not include VAT with prices, so the real price (that you pay at the till) is about £235,
http://xbox360.dcemu.co.uk/makro-selling-xbox-360-s-for-235-uk--53471.html
this what posted earlier- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Makro is a wholesale not retail.
end of rumor. - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3no it's not. It's like Costco (I think) in America, where you need a membership card thingy which they 'only give to businesses', their definition of which is pretty loose
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Makro is a **wholesale** cash and carry servicing the needs of a variety of businesses and professionals. Only registered customers can shop at Makro, giving us the opportunity to get to know our customers and develop good relationships with them."
http://www.makro.co.uk/ie/sub/company.cfm - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I could walk in tomorrow and buy a single one, that meets my definition of retail outlet
Just about everyone I know has a Makro card, or at least knows someone who does - PierceUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have a Makro card... its 4 years old from when i managed to swindle one from my old employers... anyone want to borrow it to get cheap 360's just let me know lol
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Makro is a wholesale not retail.
- guitarh3ro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3That deal had better come stateside.
- obeseotron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6What deal? Google says:
http://www.google.com/search?q=200+pounds+in+dollars
200 Pounds is 390 US Dollars, since they're paying something like 17.5% sales (VAT) tax versus the usual 6-8% (or 0% online) in the US, it's not really a better deal than we get. On the other hand Europeans (and anyone else outside the US, Canada and Japan) almost always pay a lot more for games, so it could mean a price drop is coming our way. - grgt1994, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Premium system for the price of a core system requires no Google currency computation, nor tax rate comparison.
- obeseotron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6What deal? Google says:
- guitarh3ro, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1By "deal" I meant the US had better get an awesome deal like that as well.
- otatop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4And by "What deal?" obeseotron meant that it's not a deal.
- reticulate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Selling at razor-thin margins isn't an official price drop.
The RRP is still AU$650 here, but you'd be stupid not to buy one at around $600, if not less. - RationalAntaxia, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1The US didn't get the price reduction when the PS3 came out so why would London? MS still wants as much money as they can get, so they're not going to lower the price until V2 comes out.
- grgt1994, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Didn't read the article I see.
- sk1ll2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"While Microsoft has long denied any price cuts were on the way, this is simple business sense – why tell consumers before Christmas (when price cuts were last mooted) that the console will fall in price when that period is set to be your biggest profit earner?"
- neiltc13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What does it have to do with London? Makro have stores all across the UK and Microsoft's UK base is in Reading which is quite a significant distance from London.
- oblongmouth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Another dumbass equates London as the whole of the UK.
- rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is just a promo in the UK, like the $100 Microcenter rebate in the US. Nothing to do with an official price drop
Although what Balmer has told people at a recent financial briefing gives me hope
“So, I think every console in the world has had a price decrease sometime in the first few years. I don’t know whether we’ll have a price decrease in the first few years, and I don’t want to comment on that, but I will highlight for you that every console has had a price decrease in the first few years,”
So now at least they aren't denying a price drop. Expect one soon given the slowing sales and Wii success. I'm still waiting Microsoft, once you lower the price signaling that the 360 is ready for mainstream customers, I'll buy. - Evari, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1umm its a core xbox360 in the picture that they link to, white disc tray, no hard drive... im guessing this was a mistake.
www.theinquirer.net/images/articles/Xbox360Price.jpg - dblondon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just checked with GAME - they are saying that they have no plans to reduce prices...but it was just a customer service rep I emailed.
- prisidio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There should have been a price drop ages ago, the thing doesn't even come with built-in WIFI, even the inexpensive Nintendo Wii has that.
- chrisrowe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have a Makro card, and yes the term wholesale retailer is very loose! After all, why would wholesale retailers sell individual products. You dont need a VAT number any more you can just provide a company letterhead which can be easily knocked up from a word template. Membership is free.
@ Darksaviour69. Your right, they don't include VAT but this is only for food products and usually they have 2 prices in the catalogues to help you out.
Its probably an error on Markos part, they are hardly going to be the ones with the first inside knowlegde of price cuts. - hkarthik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0here's hoping. The only reason I haven't picked one up yet is I'm waiting for the HDMI port and bigger HD. If I get a price drop too, then thats just an added bonus.
