bit-tech.net — Some guys has managed to get his Xbox Live Gold account for free forever. Not sure how he's done it but includes a video with the proof.

- doubleyoube, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Anyone got any ideas how this is done?
- d1rtfarm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+167In a related story, some guy has figured out how to get permanately blocked from XBox Live.
- somunny, on 10/12/2007, -4/+56Call me in forever and let me know if this dude still has his account.
- kevin45, on 10/12/2007, -4/+60Another way to do this is to get a job and pay $50 a year. If you want to break it down, thats a little under $5 a month. I think you can manage that.
- ButtholeSurfer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+47i bought a used xbox over a year ago... it had an account without a password on it... it's renewed twice since i've gotten the xbox, and i haven't paid a dime...
- MediaShipper, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Everybody! Before you comment RTFA!
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -19/+4If it's not a How-To, it isn't news. Marked as lame.
- soupyc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6@TheCount: Where does it say its a how-to?
- mrwiggl3s, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Ya, there is still a way, which im not going to say sorry, that you do it with and expired credit card
You wont have gold forever, but you sure will have it a while
@ButtholeSurfer
You've paid, they just haven't showed you, or more likely, your parents - GamerzCorner, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I signed up for Xbox live a few years ago with a credit card I later canceled and I still have xbox live and I only paid that first time when i acctivated it...
- raada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It is probably Microsoft that has written the system that checks if your subscription is active or not. Enough said...
- Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Well when "a friend" signed up for Xbox Live when the 360 first came out, "he" signed up for Gold. But not knowing that Gold was the paid service, "he" called the Xbox support late at night on a Friday or Saturday evening, saying that "he" didn't want to pay, and would rather be bumped back down to Silver...
The support person said OK, and first thing Monday morning, they'd make the switch... Well a year later, "his" Gold subscription ended, without a charge ever on "his" credit card.... - cam0man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@gamerzcorner
same thing happened to me. I opened my account with a one time use credit card and paid for the entire year. I think I actually had xbox live for 2.5 years after only paying for 1. the odd thing was, they sent me emails and letters about paying because my card was no longer valid, but they never actually cancelled the account. - cello, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12His account is already Silver. http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?pp=0&GamerTag=thedalmeny
Give me a break ... we're digging minor glitches in billing systems now? - ButtholeSurfer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7@ mrwiggl3s
no haven't paid *****. i bought the xbox with my money. the account was already on it. the account is being charged to another jackasses card. suck it
- McGrunty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26It's a fluke that happens pretty uncommonly, but don't expect it to last forever, it will get corrected soon, at least thats what happened with mine.
- SvMidtown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's nothing special, I know several people who have had one months last a lot longer than they should. I think one I made when I got my 360(at release) worked up until a few months ago. It seems random to me.
- kevin45, on 10/12/2007, -22/+5The first thing I would do is get my story on Digg, because you know, word won't get back around to Microsoft or anything.
Plus if this guy wanted to remain anonymous, he wouldn't have shown his gamertag in the movie.- keyrat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14RTFA, guy. He says he's already spoken to MS about it.
- seandfeeney, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20This is a video of a guy getting his account for free forever, yet no one knows how it is done? Way to go and mislead the article. Submit something useful.
- wookiewombat, on 10/12/2007, -24/+3can this guy have been any dumber by putting his actual gamertag in the video? Oh, hes getting banned soon
- middleman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Read the story.
- v0yeur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"reading is hard..."
- timfitz99, on 10/12/2007, -15/+0Yeah, liked how he showed his gamertag. He can kiss the free ride goodbye.
- Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1*****, why do all of you dumbasses repeat the same ***** over and over?
READ THE ***** ARTICLE! He's talked to Microsoft, they KNOW what's going on!
- Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1*****, why do all of you dumbasses repeat the same ***** over and over?
- fingerdigg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2That video gave me a headache.
- GunbladeVIII, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0By the time you read this, it's probably already inaccurate. Next time, edit out your gamertag, dumbass.
- Yeabudy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1It seemed that the 'End Date' format was listed in MM/DD/YYYY format (01/12/2006) but the 'Start Date' format was DD/MM/YYYY (30/10/2006). Is this typical or could it be related to the fluke?
- lfrandom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Ehhh, no. The start date is dd/mm/yy (October 30 2006), the end date is dd/mm/yy (December 1 2006).
It makes more sense that way, he activated October 30th, December 1st is a month later.
[Edit: I only beat mathewjm by 5 or 6 seconds] - mathewjm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Both dates were in DD/MM/YYYY format. 1st December is 31 days after 30th October when his membership started (incidentally, I got a live account on the same day and mine expired on December 1st like it said)
[Edit: lfrandom beat me to it :)] - thisisbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It is in that format because they are in Europe. Only America uses MM/DD/YYYY...i think, but i know Europe uses the DD/MM/YYYY
- Dochtuir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Correct. MM/DD/YYYY is retarded. DD/MM/YYYY makes sense, or YYYY/MM/DD so you can compare strings easier.
- lfrandom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Ehhh, no. The start date is dd/mm/yy (October 30 2006), the end date is dd/mm/yy (December 1 2006).
- btgoss, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24That is nothing... so far I have lived forever... done it for almost 40 years at this point... biggest secret... miss oncoming traffic...
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How very existential...
- tralalaa, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Just go into best buy and steal a membership card.
It's not rocket science, and it's not like they'll find out since the cards don't have to be activated or accounted for.- Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, because it's so easy.
In most, if not all (judging by either your Best Buy's lack of security or your lack of knowledge) they keep them behind the counter.
Same at GameStop, EB Games, and many others. - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My Best Buy has them right on the shelf too
- Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, because it's so easy.
- DeadlyCouncil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Ok, what the hell is wrong with him including his gamertag? If you even read the damn article is says how he is freely cooperating with microsoft and actually wants them to fix the issue, he already sent them his info so his gamertag being in the video is inconsequential. Jesus...
- Jansson, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2His gamertag is in the video. It's thedalmeny
- Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Jansson:
He knows that. He's talking about why are people making such a big deal about his gamertag... they wouldn't if they had read it.
- Codename, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1How about no, I don't want a free Wii, you giant ENEMY douchebag.
- eTronicGaming, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It said it started in December and the trial supposedly was going to end on January 12, 2007. Maybe it has something to do with going from 2006-2007? I really don't think so but that's about all I can think of.
- Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know since when December was 30, but you read it wrong. It's in DD/MM/YYYY format, as others have said, and it's October 30th to December 1st. The glitch might just be completely random and not have any specific way of triggering.
- Koncept, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Has the video been pulled or am I blind?
- outhouseinput, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When you first use your 360, you get 3 months of live free because you can make 3 new xbox live accounts with different email addresses and they will all work.
It is pretty cheap though. I pricematched my 13 months of live for $38, which is incredibly cheap compared to how much the service is worth and how much fun it is. - Jansson, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Gamertag: thedalmeny
- thedalmeny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Ok i'm the guy who did this.. I'll explain a few things..
1. I can't tell everyone how to do it because i actually think Xbox live is worth the price tag, which is why i'm in contact with developers at microsoft. It's best this thing doesn't spread before they can identify the problem and fix it.
2. You get 3 months free live but you have to make a new account each time. Which resets your date of the trial period. Hense the "1 month free trial".
3. As far as i know from developers this is the first time this has happened, especially as i can still play online with the xbox 360 where it should be reseting my account to expired when i log into the Xbox live services.- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Nice one, I hope you get a year free for reporting it.
- FerrisYJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can you mention anything after it's fixed?
- DigitalFelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, thats pretty neat.
- T-Bird, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Funny, my account is doing the same thing. It should have expired, but has not.
- wfenthusiast, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0The entire video is on firefox..I'm wondering if greasemonkey has some hand in this ;)
- TimRogers, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2To make this a fully fledged popular story, all we need is a "will it blend?" comment.
- Gremlinclr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+161. In Soviet Russia, it blends YOU!
2. ?????
3. Profit!
There. As a time saver I've put three retarded Digg cliches in one post. That way, you don't have to digg down three comments, just one! I'm a giver.
- Gremlinclr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+161. In Soviet Russia, it blends YOU!
- robster113, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1when my credit card expired they carried on the service for two months before ending the account...maybe this is what has happened...they are giving him grace period to update account
- SupremeBeing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, I did the same thing (let my card expire). But then when I bought my 360 I wanted to reactivate my old gamertag. When I called to do so, they told me that there was a billing violation on my account and that in order to reactivate it I would need to pay the $49.99 for the year, I said whatever no problem. When they told me that my account would auto withdraw after 11 months, I said WTF?!?!. I argued it for about as long as less than $5 was worth, then let it go.
In short, it maybe a grace period, but it isn't free... at least if you want that gamertag back.

- intilli4, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1After he showed his gamer tag in the video I think Microsoft will end the account and make a stricter policy on the grace period.
- pEEpiNgtoM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*UPDATE*: didnt read the comments before hand to see that others accounts were not being cancelled as well either way, heres what i wrote...
I dont know if this may be it, but recently i created a new GamerTag with a freetrial on the original xbox. Anyways after restoring it on the 360, once the trial ran out and the credit card was no longer valid, i couldnt be charged. Yet over 2 months later i was still on live and yet to be charged a dime. Anyways i went ahead and got a 3month card for christmas after nearly 3 months of not paying. So i then get on live enter the card and it keeps giving me this error message. So i call in and the guy says there is an update going on and thats why it wont let me redeem it, because i had already redeemed an 1600 Point Card, 100 Point Card, and the Joust code from he 3 month bundle, either way though...
So the next day i try again, same error. I call in the guy says there are no updates going on and confirms the code once again as the previous person did to make sure it was a valid 3month code. It was. Anyways what ended up being done is he had to basicly cancel my membership to bring me back down to a silver member and then i used the code, and BAM it worked.
So about 2 weeks after i put in the code (january 2007) i get an email from microsoft saying if i dont renew my subscription soon it would be cancelled. So basicly this message came 3 months late, after i finally put in the 3month trial. It in no way affected my account i as recieved before hand the congrats on my 3 month trial also, and the end date of my account is still correct.
Anyways just though i would share this with all of you - ziggystardust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Forever is a pretty long time dude. There are no details and theoretically you would need to have video from the end of time to prove the title. I call BS on this.
- adamnikyo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I was a beta tester for Xbox live, so I got to play for free at first. Then Xbox live went public, and 11 months later my Xbox was banned because I acidentally accessed Live with my mod chip enabled. I didn't want to be charged when the year was up and I wasn't ready to buy a second Xbox, so I called to cancel my Live account so as not to be charged in the meantime. The guy on the phone was really confused. He said my account looked different from any account he'd seen before. He said my account had no expiration date, which was wrong. I told him it was probably because I was a beta tester. I wanted to tell him "nevermind, don't cancel it", but I knew it was too late. The guy said if I hadn't drawn attention to it, I probably would've had Xbox live for free forever.
This is my story. - giggl3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Currently I know someone that has this same bug...

1/1/2007 - ParaSu, on 05/04/2008, -0/+0The only way i know to quickly get free xbox live is either to use the free month that came with the game. Or to use a site like prizerebel http://www.prizerebel.com/index.php?r=155751 The way it works is you set up a new email address and a fake address (make sure the address and zip code are consistent tho). Then you simply click on the offers in the site to get points. When you have 8 points, request an xbox live code and they'll send you one by email. It isnt a dodgy site, but it will lead to a lot of spam, which is why it's vital you dont use your real email address. When you have earnt what you want, just abandon the email address. To be completely safe, only take part in the free offers that dont ask for your credit card. The CC one's will give you more points but it's a risk you don't need.
8 points is not that large a total and will probably take you 2 days max (at 15 mins a day). You could probably do it in a day, but it does take time for some points to get added (upto 24hours). Finally, there are programmes such as roboform which can greatly speed up the time you spend filling forms, but are a bit advanced to use. I have tried one other website and trust me, I have almost got a live card after 1 day while i was only half way there after 3 days with the other. To give it a go, just go to prizerebel http://www.prizerebel.com/index.php?r=155751Good luck.
Soup - angdem, on 08/20/2008, -0/+0You can also get xbox live gold for free using this site:
http://www.prizerebel.com/index.php?r=466436
Just complete free offers using a second email. It takes less than a day for many prizes.
Please register using my link if you do, I just joined and redeemed 8 points for 1 month gold, you would help me out. - angdem, on 10/03/2008, -0/+0I describe how to get free xbox live gold codes.
