It seems like it would be so much easier to fix/prevent and issues with our atmosphere rather than starting from scratch on another planet.

When the global warming alarmists can give me good data, I'll believe. Until then, I choose to believe that pollution is bad because it's a bad idea and recycling is a good idea because its a good idea.

The article says that the recent study confirms the study made in 2006. Science is about confirmation and redoing studies. You collect data (over a period of years), analyze the data, draw a conclusion, release data, release data to community. Community redoes study, and either confirms or rejects previous conclusion. This is a case of the former rather than the latter.
