Facebook & Wikipedia better communication during emergencies

mathewingram.com — According to a study that is to be published in New Scientist magazine tomorrow, Facebook and Wikipedia are better at getting crucial information out during emergencies than either government agencies, emergency services — or the traditional media.

How can traditional broadcasting services compete with instant facebook updates direct from the scene? But what concerns me is that some dude decides to start updating the wikipedia entry on "school shootings in the US" as he is being shot at...we are indeed addicted to the interweb.
