Mysterious Russian Cement Rain Causes Hole in Moscow House
environmentalgraffiti.com — Last Tuesday, seemingly out of nowhere, a huge lump of cement hurtling from the sky crashed through a suburban Moscow home, creating a large hole. But what was the cause? Why, it was the Russian Air force attempting to change the weather of course!

- awakenall, on 06/20/2008, -6/+3Cement has a bad rap ever since 9/11. It just keeps crumbling and falling every time it gets around airplanes - almost like bombs were to blame. Silly cement, now sit...staaay.

- We've got it great here. And for the first time in my life I'm actually good at my job. My team is way ahead of the weather machine and germ warfare divisions.

- db0255, on 06/19/2008, -1/+43Note to self: Don't seed clouds with large, heavy objects. They fall.
- LordBoreal51, on 06/20/2008, -1/+2Except this was with cement powder.
- Mononuclear, on 06/20/2008, -1/+4cement powder that wasn't broken up "A pack of cement used in creating … good weather in the capital region … failed to pulverize completely at high altitude and fell on the roof of a house..."
From that it seems that they just dropped the entire bag at once and hoped that on the way down it would break up into powder...
So dropping a bag of cement powder is still seeding clouds with large heavy objects. A bag of cement powder weighs a lot.

- manogamez, on 06/20/2008, -1/+10I missed the part where having a large block of cement pass through your roof counts as 'moral suffering'.
- teh_techie, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1The moral suffering is likely due to the piece of ***** offer of 2000 dollars for compensation...
- LessThanDan, on 06/20/2008, -5/+2Those crazy Russians.
- nkleffman, on 06/20/2008, -3/+4google 'history of weather modification' - they've been able to seed clouds and redirect hurricanes since the 60's.
- TheHeat, on 06/20/2008, -2/+2I want to know how I've never heard about this cloud seeding before. It seems my birthday (the 18th, and the 4th of July are both always rained out here in Michigan)
- silentdragoon, on 06/20/2008, -4/+1This is not, in fact, news.
- fleischkopf, on 06/20/2008, -2/+7cement rain... made me cross the street the other day.

You should have said:

- DickusErectus, on 06/20/2008, -2/+3I guess they'll have to do it live!
- Gforce20, on 06/20/2008, -1/+3Read the article, people. The Russians have been using these ingredients for twenty years to improve the weather, and this is the first time it's gone wrong.
- Lingur, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Except that one time it went wrong...
"This wasn’t the first time that cloud seeding failed in some way. In 2006 during the G8 Summit"...

- mercurialsaliva, on 06/20/2008, -0/+4and i was bitching about baseball sized hail...
- MisterNetHead, on 06/20/2008, -1/+3Talk about ripping text and images straight from the Wikipedia article on cloud seeding. Jeez. Plus that Cessna image is all scrunched. Way to present yourself as a reputable news source...
- cypherignite, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2I can't believe how much of that article was ripped verbatim from wikipedia with no citation. I am glad someone else noticed that as well.
- shaun3000, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3Apparently we weren't the only ones who noticed. I made a comment and received this response, today:
Hi Shaun,
I'm Chris the founder of Environmental Graffiti. We got your comment
response and after further investigation we realized you and others who
had emailed us about the article being plagiarized was completely
justified.
We are currently scanning through Matthew's other articles and seeing if
this has been the case all along. In the mean time I deleted the paragraph
you mentioned and another couple of paragraphs that seemed to be lifted
directly from Wikipedia.
I want to thank you for bringing this to light. I don't take plagiarism
lightly and want to stamp it out on Environmental Graffiti, wherever I
can. The whole aim of the site is to be original, interesting and
reputable by providing as many sources as possible - this article
completely failed at that.
Hope this is ok.
Thanks very much,
With kind regards,
Chris Ingham Brooke

- WoollyMittens, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Maybe it would work better if you took the cement out of the bag before "dusting" it across a cloud.

- DickusErectus, on 06/20/2008, -2/+0I think whoever wrote this article dislikes Russians. "The homeowner was not injured, but their pride was"??? Really??? Pride??? In what way???An "injured" pride??? Oh, so is this what "injures" ones pride??? That makes no sense.
- guregu, on 06/20/2008, -0/+5Too many ???????? marks!!!
- DickusErectus, on 06/20/2008, -2/+0Looks catchy though! = )
- Kordras, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3What does that have to do with the author disliking Russians?
- DickusErectus, on 06/20/2008, -0/+0The whole article sets a tone which makes me believe that. For example, in the very first paragraph he says "But what was the cause? Why, it was the Russian Air force attempting to change the weather of course!" Hopefully I don't need to explain it to you further.
- pagno, on 06/20/2008, -1/+1No I think you do. To me, it was mostly about cloud seeding, and the possible environmental effects. I had no idea that Russians were immune to Earths enviornment. Could explain the Cold War.

- hinmanj, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1WTF, we can see clouds? Why didn't we seed clouds to make it rain more during the SoCal fires? wtf government?
Sorry that was completely off-topic - 9bpm9, on 06/20/2008, -0/+6They refused a $2,100 offer from the Air Force to fix the damage, but the home owner declined and stated she would sue for damages and compensation of moral suffering instead.
Hey, at least it's not just America that's filled with morons. - s2ao, on 06/20/2008, -0/+4For some reason, the headline made Donnie Darko spring to my mind...

- roho76, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Is it just me, or are the Russians still stuck in that 1940's military experiment mode? This is why Russia doesn't scare me. If they tried to launch a nuke it would probably fail and detonate inside the silo.
- HeadJam, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Cement is an ingredient in concrete, which is what you get when you mix cement with water (and other things if you want)
