- smitas, on 07/06/2008, -13/+7Old are getting extinct but new are also evolving.
- thesonofdarwin, on 07/06/2008, -2/+5However, our finding a new species does not mean, and is very, very unlikely the case, that the species is "new" in relation to the life of the Earth. We'd be very hard pressed to find a newly evolved species outside of microorganisms as we can't even identify the majority of the current species in the world.
We can find organisms that evolved new traits relatively recently, but to evolve to a point where they can no longer reproduce with their species is a rare find indeed.

- Pinkshisno, on 07/06/2008, -2/+31The first picture reminds me of some RPG boss fight.
- bwdd, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1it looks distinctively like that Jenova boss at the end of FF7.
- edwartica, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Funny, I thought it looked like the Jehovah's witness who banged on my door at 7 am this morning.
- Keres, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1When I saw the electrolux one it made me think that the spore bats / nether rays in WoW had come to life. o_O

- dreamparacite, on 07/06/2008, -0/+4I was going to say the same thing, this doesn't take 10 pages. They get enough ad revenue, greedy whores. :O
- GoldYoshi, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I was bored. Sue me for 'stealing' Ad Revenue which most of us didn't see using Adblock Plus anyways.

- bigsteve3OOO, on 07/06/2008, -14/+3It looks like the vag on a fat girl I did a one nighter with in college.
- greeniemeani, on 07/06/2008, -10/+2I, for one, welcome our newly discovered species overlords.
- bigsteve3OOO, on 07/06/2008, -8/+3I think her arms were too small to get around her fat rolls. Hygiene over the years did things to the normal pink color.
- Philmer, on 07/06/2008, -6/+5Where are the Blood Worms? The Osmotic eels? Come on, top 10 of new species, i thought maybe a targ at the least. Wait, what the hell am i going on about, oh yeah, I was saying how unimpressed i was at earth species after watching a star trek.
It's just like playing driving on a small street after coming off a highway, so disorientating, so maddening...... AH!!!
/whips out Xindi Episode- Iztikeit, on 07/06/2008, -0/+5Unimpressed with Earth species? Take a goddamn biochemistry class.

- mrmiggidude, on 07/06/2008, -5/+5How does someone rank newly discovered species? I'd love to see their ranking session notes.
- bigsteve3OOO, on 07/06/2008, -7/+4it took a lot to get over the odor. Low tide at the shore mixed with a cheese factory but I manned up and went ahead anyway. I know you guys know what I mean.
- ericjohnson0, on 07/06/2008, -9/+4Here's a species I wish would go extinct...

This would be the reason you're not a professional satirist. I can just picture the smirk on your face after you thought up this little gem of a comment, leaning toward the keyboard and thinking, "oh eric, you've done it again, you comedic genius, you!"

Aw fruit bat, aw
Also, michelin man plant?
No pay-off there, or anything
:P - TheSmokingManX, on 07/06/2008, -3/+5Pretty underwhelming list, I thought. One of them is just a really big ***** mushroom, for example.
- edwartica, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1It is kind of amazing though, it wasn't found in the depths of some jungle, but rather on a college campus.
- jmariuskl, on 07/06/2008, -2/+0First one looks like the Silent Hill movie bug monster.
- acegi, on 07/06/2008, -3/+0looks like something you'd create with spore...
- TecK415, on 07/06/2008, -2/+12I posted this weeks ago.. Sadly none of my submissions have any chance of making the front page...
http://digg.com/environment/Top_10_New_Species_of_ ...- spookyttws, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Yeah, and the whole "someone already submitted this" thing is lost on people. Instead of digging a story, helping it get front paged they just submit their own.
- To0pak, on 07/06/2008, -2/+1They named a museum after Alf? sweet
- forumz, on 07/06/2008, -1/+3Does anyone know a site that regularly gives stories like these? Mainly science? I was told digg was like that but it's mostly politics I find.
- spookyttws, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Just customize your digg profile to show only science categories. And there you go.
- jnorris441, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1Top 10? Too bad the other species didn't make the cut. Not exciting enough I guess.
- JohnAdams999, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2This is submitters 5th front-page submission today. New recommendation engine is crap.
- WakasakiRocky, on 07/06/2008, -3/+1These comments suck.
- Ducttape21, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Does this mean there's going to be a new expansion to the current animal kingdom CCG or are these going to be limited editions?
- kidwithsword, on 07/06/2008, -0/+6So being a newly discovered species just isn't enough to make it onto a list on the internet? You have to be better than the rest?
- peagle, on 07/06/2008, -1/+8"Megaceras briansaltini is a rhinoceros beetle with a horn that looks similar to one found on Dim, the blue rhinoceros beetle in the Disney/Pixar animated film A Bug's Life."
BRILLIANT! Obviously when something looks like a Rhino, the best comparison would be to a blue animated one from a Disney film. Rather than oohh say "a Rhino". - IJstickI, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2anyone else completely let down?
- sirclown82, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Whoa the frog toad thing looks like it came from hell.
- ShadowFoxxx, on 07/06/2008, -0/+4I heard about the Malo kingi, that tiny, tiny jellyfish. It's suppose to be even deadlier than the box jellyfish, even though it's about 100x smaller. Funny how that works.
- lopla, on 07/06/2008, -4/+1millions of years? try 12,000

- atact88, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I see the mass extinction of planet earth continues.
- UltraDavid, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2"...flaunts its [pink,] spiny, toxic body by living out in the open"
"...discovered on Silwood Campus of Imperial College, London"
Come on, Science, it took you all this time to find things that hide in the open and live in your backyard? This millipede gives you no respect, here he is waving his dick in your face cause he thinks you can't even find him. And you know what? He was almost right. Time to step it up, guys. - yahoofrom, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Number 6 and number 8 are hot & sexy.
- digger65, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0Top 10 Newly Discovered Species has 11 species on the page. It should be Top 11.
