- yeahaboutthat, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Wouldn't have been so bad except that closely following the bee truck at the time was a bus full of kids on their way to allergy camp. What a tragedy.

- matrixbandit, on 07/03/2008, -1/+5So this is what happened to all the missing bees?
"In a tragic turn of events, 12 million bees died today in what is being billed as the deadliest motor vehicle accident ever recorded"
- harmoniousfist, on 07/03/2008, -20/+1wait, why is this news? i thought bees were the good guys!
/hippie- MtheoryX, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1/your life
- htan, on 07/03/2008, -4/+71when reported on the news here in ontario i found it absolutely hilarious when they said "anyone who's allergic to bees is advised to stay away from the area"
- jburka, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Don't see why this hilarious. Have you ever seen someone with an allergic reaction to a bee sting? They actually closed the TCH and diverted traffic around the spill for everyone's safety.
- AnOMNOMymous, on 07/03/2008, -10/+1Something about that video was really surreal...
- deinem, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5I think it was the million bees...
- PhonicUK, on 07/03/2008, -1/+11It was the lack of commentary. We are so used to a guy speaking over news articles that it's weird without them.
- MtheoryX, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1lack of filler music? lack of words of impending doom? lack of fear, no matter where you live?
That's because this isn't from Fox News.
- digitalMessiah, on 07/03/2008, -7/+8I used to love helping out as a beekeeper. You have bees flying all over you and the key is to stay calm. It is very surreal indeed.
That was quite a mess to deal with out there. - Bokista, on 07/03/2008, -12/+5Bunch of hosers, eh?
- MorganMghee, on 07/03/2008, -11/+68Problems for motorists? MOTORISTS?!! There is a global bee die off going on, we can't get people to pick the freakin fruit or till the soils, do you think we're going to get them to hand pollinate the food crops? Those bees were more valuable than gold...
- TwiztOG43, on 07/03/2008, -14/+2calm down, dont get your panties in a bunch.
- Terr01, on 07/03/2008, -15/+3"Those bees were more valuable than gold..."
Sarcasm? Can't tell.- Jennefah, on 07/03/2008, -2/+10Good luck pollinating your crops with gold.

- Terr01, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1@Morgan: Can't find it.
So if you'd please post me the think showing that one pound of honeybees is worth more than one pound of gold...? - swicken, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2@Terr01: You have a different idea of worth then I do. When all of the bees die you can buy tons of things you don't need with that pound of gold you have, only none of it will be food.
- Terr01, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Swicken: Oh spare me. You may want to look up the phrase "marginal value". You're saying when ALL THE BEES DIE. That's like saying WHEN ALL EARTH'S OXYGEN IS GONE.
You might as well say "Oxygen is worth more than gold". And yes, in *certain situations* anyone would gladly trade a pound of gold for a pound of oxygen.
But in any real-world sense, no, oxygen is not more valuable than gold.
Similarly, in any real-world sense, no, a pound of commodity-level bees is *not* more valuable than a pound of gold. There's good odds that'll still be true even if you restrict gold to it's industrial applications.
Your entire argument is based on the idea that the pound of bees in question are the last bees in existence, which is absurd.
- gn0stik, on 07/03/2008, -4/+8Really, Where are all the dead bees? Funny thing about this "die off".... No Carcasses. Nobody knows where the bees are going. Oh, you also forgot to mention, that most of those bees that have "died off", are farm raised bees like these.
Oh, and it's kind of stupid to imply that the lives of the motorists who may be allergic is not important in comparison to these bees who were likely unhurt, for the large part.- Terr01, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2Well, there are things out that eat bee carcasses.
- jpop, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Well, I'd say we know where 12 million of them went. Beenappers!
- bigredsk10, on 07/04/2008, -1/+0So long and thanks for all the fish!
- gn0stik, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2terr01 CCD (Colony Colapse Disorder) is a well studies phenomena. Nobody knows what's causing it.
There is no predator that simply eats 12,000 bees in one sitting without touching the honey.
Several bee keepers have reported watching a disoriented queen bee just get out of the hive and fly away with all of the other bees.
They don't suck the honey out of the hive, they don't uncap the pupae, nothing. They just leave everything behind.
All they know is that it has something to do with the queen wigging out.
Some have speculated that it's radio frequencies messing with their heads, as colonies that have been stable for years just vanish by the hundreds when a new cell tower is erected. Others think it's mites, or some disease that only effects queens. NOBODY KNOWS for sure.
The RF thing is easy enough to test though. Just build a faraday cage around the hive.
- graemee, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1It actually is the main highway, the Trans-Canada Highway. Lots of cars & trucks this time of the year.
