What About Shrinkage?
daretodream.com.sg — Khoo Swee Chiow is attempting to break the world record for world's longest submersion. Slathered in grease to keep his body from pruning, he entered a tank on December 16th and won't emerge until Christmas day. Amazingly, he's maintaining a blog about his experience.

- jaspinDroid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0He gets out sometimes..
- WillyVolk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think so...according to local media reports, "he will not be allowed to surface - though he can take a five minute break every continuous 60 minutes."
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/183986/1/.html - Clickerness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol @ the enema...
- blugu64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0reminds me of that guy that put himself in an ice cube a couple of years ago....does he do stuff like this for a living or what??
- Royal0rleans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, somwhat David Blain-ish
I'll give him credit, but you still have to ask yourself--why? - zelig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0shrinkage, haven't you ever heard of shrinkage!!
- KC311Man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg for title alone!
- Meowmix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heh.. Enema.
If he's allowed to take breaks... Doesn't that defeat the purpose? - vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Media Whore.
Stupid.
Yawn. - aronoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll digg just cuz it's SCUBA related.
- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No he won't have to worry about shrinkage... he'll more likely have to worry about hibernation... he won't be able to find it till christmas day 2006....
- jobeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great title
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Useless.
- kevcoles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0From the blog it seems he doesn't shrink much...
And he mentioned the pain...
It's crazy! - doktorrocket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24That's nothing, I was submerged for 6 months once.
Although in my case, to keep myself from pruning, I slathered myself with the hull of a nuclear submarine. - pacificdave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@doktorrocket:
hehe... - tafkase7en, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Anyone who doesn't digg this is an idiot.
- aantix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is that William Hung?
- super_spyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0oktorrocket "That's nothing, I was submerged for 6 months once.

hahah i digg it - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha he must be a relative of William.
- SomeFool91, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0No digg. Sort of lame just to make your chinese ass famous.
- maong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0holy crap! that doctor shares my name!
- Jack9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Lame.
- Nerfdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0so he can take five minutes off for every 60 minutes submerged? i'm in the water more when i go on vacation. lame :P
- LowGan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0would only be cool if he couldn't take a break
- GMaldonado, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Shrinkage?? He is Asian, his ***** is already shrunk!!
- bitshifter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1He's asian, he won't notice a difference anyways.
- bitshifter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Beaten :(
- itzdatkpn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i was once submerged in my bathtub for 5 hours...
i was eleven at the time...
this is sort of lame, but it gets a digg from me... - technonoob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a perfect opportunity for Burger King to rush their ass over to Singapore and do a commercial on this guy.
Don't know why the dud needed and enema... he already ate at Burger King, that should have been sufficient - Metal_Hurlant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know the first thing about scuba diving, but I'd hope there's equipment out there that wouldn't bruise your ear after one day, and your whole face after two.
The whole thing reads a bit like an experiment in pain and misery (which in chinese apparently translates into "courage and determination")
I just hope he doesn't do any permanent damage to his body with this. - macmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what you don't realize is that the dry-chamber is underwater as well, he's just not wet. i think this is a very neat thing, quite worthy of a digg
- mwalters, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The whole getting to step into a tank for a break seems to somewhat diminish how 'cool' it is.
- themachina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dare to Dream. That kills me. The last thing I would ever dream of is sitting in underwater for a freakin' week and a half.
- Axon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was in the pool, I was in the pool!
- Kiltak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hahaha, that's useless..
- DeepNarcosis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Shrinkage?? He is Asian, his ***** is already shrunk!!" -GMaldondo
"No digg. Sort of lame just to make your chinese ass famous." -somefool91 (He's from Singapore -but whatever, every Asian must be the same)
"so he can take five minutes off for every 60 minutes submerged? i'm in the water more when i go on vacation. lame :P" -nerfdude (man, you've probably never done more than an hour dive in the Bahamas with your single little tank, come do a 4 hour deco dive in the Great Lake on a 300 Ft. deep shipwreck in 34 degree water with over 200# of equipment, then talk to me about how lame you think his attempt is.)
Wow, just when I thought my opinion of most digg commenter's was rock bottom, I find it wasn't quite low enough.
First off, he does this for the spirit of adventure as well part of his motivational career. Second, the guy's summited Everest more times than you've even had a Digg front page story so, you need to reevaluate your definition of success or 'lamery' there buddy... - qishi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think "the guy who put himself in an ice cube" was David Blaine. I remember watching that. Suck it up, man. Come live where I live. I'm in his cube for 5+ straight months a year.
- Peat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Day 5 Peak & Valley (20 Dec 2005)
I had diarrhoea this morning."
Too much information. - h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0he gets out that's not consecutive, that's cheating.
- baloniaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Amazingly, he's maintaining a blog about his experience"
well, actually there isn't anything posted after day 5.... - tudacee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gee, since there's no recent post, hope all is well with him.
I agree with deepnarcosis...don't knock it, all you folks who stick to the ordinary and tried and true ways of living your lofe.
This guy is unique. - PissedGamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3h0dg3s, it isn't cheating. Obviously the person who set the first world record had breaks here and there because the world record was valid...the guy made sure to look into that to see how many breaks he could get.
And to all you who have commented about how this is lame/he's an attention whore/etc....let's see you do something that takes that much determination. Most of you couldn't get out of your parents' basement. - WikiTerra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope he wins a Darwin Award.
- sirplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what a retard. i'm impressed.
- jermlai, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Hope he dies!
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, this dude has guts to give it a try. It seems that he is having some serious problems, with diarrhea, skin breakdown, and pressure from the mask. It looks like he is wearing a variant of the Kirby-Morgan band mask, so I'm not surprised that his face is getting bruised, or that he is getting some breakdown.
I have a feeling he isn't going to make it, but I admire his effort. There is no way that I would put myself through that crap. - Skyfire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg just because of the title.
- rkrock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I wouldn't call this guts. In fact, I'm hard-pressed to find any word that might capture the sheer stupidity of this undertaking. He certainly spares us no detail concerning his so-called, courageous endeavor. Diarrhea - c'mon now. I tip my hat to WillyVolk for the insightful title. When this guy gets out of the tank, I hope someone is there to punch him and say "... get back in the fiery water!"
- JcbAzPx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seems interesting to me.
BTW, the whole 5min per 60min break thing is fairly standard for official world record endurance attempts. -
