World's Largest Beetle (Picture)
beetlespace.wz.cz — The Goliath Beetle is one of the largest and heaviest insects in the world
- 1866 diggs
- digg it
- triggerfinger, on 10/12/2007, -28/+5It is really HUGE
- mhuggins, on 10/12/2007, -4/+123Maybe that guy's hand is just really small.
- Shuk, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7Tasty.
- tippmann1, on 10/12/2007, -27/+8thats what your mom said last night!
- reevolutn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+57same midget hand that was holding that asian hornet/wasp thing?
- Osiriscky3, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5All hail to our beetle overlord!
- Jo9100, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Yuuuuccckkkk
- Vinthian, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20where are the males? O_o
- royall64, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3This reminds me of Animal Crossing.
- daxsymbiont, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5i bet it moves slow as hell. structural integrity and speed of such creatures depends a lot on their small size.
(reason why elephants are slow. sci-fi scenarios of cockroaches being huge are unbased, they'd collapse on their own weight).
(+ dinosaurs probably moved slow as hell but it doesn't sell if we tell that to hollywood clients) - Fighterspj, on 10/12/2007, -5/+47We need a picture section.
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If you click the "back" button at the bottom of the page and then click the thumbnail of the next beetle in line, you'll see it's even larger.
I would post the link but Digg is stripping out the underscore and breaking it.
I didn't go through the whole list but perhaps there's even larger ones? - slasherx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@royall64
Reminds me more of that god awful movie the mummy. And that's the stuff I like to forget. :P - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11. Elephants can run at up to 30 miles per hour.
2. I for one welcome our beetle overlords. - TheIneffableBob, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2BBBBBUUUUUTTTT WWWWWIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLL IIIIITTTTTTTT BBBBBLLLLLLEEEEEENNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDD???????????????
- tateswayz91, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I think I'd soil myself if I found one of those in my house.
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@slasherx
I hate horror movies, but The Mummy was awesome (more of a lighthearted adventure/suspense movie). Whats so wrong with it?
Oh yeah, that beetle is definitely creepy, wouldn't want to find one of those in my apartment, as I don't have a baseball bat or firearm. - headswine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2And they're tasty... Hmmmm...
- donkeyshow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2the dung beetle would kick its arse.
- igotdugout, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1"It is really HUGE"
That's what she said. - jonnyx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I for one welcome our giant ***** beetle overlords.
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1OMG! Look! It's on you!
- CelebVoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This Beetle and that giant wasp that was on here about an hour ago have a show to get to, and a blender to fill...
Where is the Fear Factor suggestion box when you need one? - rtay150, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2"It is really HUGE"
I have to do it: Thats what she said! - CountC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I WILL CONSUME THE LIVING AND THE DEAD
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My Asian Wasp will kick your Goliath Beetles ass!

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/2575/250pxclockspiderki0.jpg
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -10/+28This would be an amazing pet if it wasn't terrified of it.
- jakhtar, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4That's what she said!
- AJRiddle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I've seen bigger.
- Kamill85, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7You wont be terrified for much longer, large insects require very high amount of oxygen. Biggest ones live only in the Rain Forest or other large forests... Millions years ago Insects were about size of your cat or dog. With current Co2 level, which increases pretty quickly, those insects might be gone soon.
- Vishap, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Oh, it gets even worse than that. If I remember correctly (I believe I saw it on the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet) the largest known millipede could break 10 feet in length. I imagine things would be unpleasant if those things were still around, squirming here and there and trying to step on you...
- chongli, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Amazing pet if it lived longer than 6 months.
- Kamill85, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I wonder why I'm getting dugg down... Digg never stops to amaze me
- Jemulov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I do believe you are looking for 10 inches, Imagine a 10 foot millipede and ask yourself. "How the ***** can a millipede this big, and slow I might add, survive?"
- kevinmotel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+112I dunno about largest, but I think John Lennon was the tallest.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1But Ringo sold more records (biggest Beatle) ;)
- NuMbAoNeStUnNa, on 10/12/2007, -35/+1DaYuM dAt BeEtaL iS BaLLa. An YouR jOke aiNt fUnNy.
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8numbaonestunna, I didn't think it was possible for anyone to make a comment so absolutely stupid. Just go get back in bed and stay there, please.
- fun4stuff, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2if i saw one of those it would only be alive for 2 seconds before i smashed it
- calpaully, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42I wish they would have mentioned on the page whether it is male or female.
- coyo7e, on 10/12/2007, -21/+6They did. It's a female in the picture.
- Bigbro69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm
- UMDWei, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14For some reason, I hear the transformers transforming sound when I look at the pictures.
- RUFiO006, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Just because no one's said it yet:
Digg needs a pictures section. - cliftut, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Actually, on the last picture(I think) they did say it was female. they just don't for all the pictures.
- Kardde, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Holy crap on a cracker.
Imagine climbing into bed and finding that in your sheets.- dante2010, on 10/12/2007, -34/+12Imagine climbing into bed and finding my dick in your sheets.
- altosaxon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7For shame dante... why would you say something like that, now we all know that you are an idiot.
- micahgoulart, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The worst thing would be not finding it after looking for it.
Nothing like being bitten in your sleep by an insect. I've gotten an ant bite here in the Amazon at night that hurt for 24 hrs all the way up my arm. Indians I met say it's worse than a scorpion. I saw one the other day and stepped on it. Took 5 direct stomps to kill the sucker.
I've seen beetles here in the Amazon as big as the beetle pictured here if not bigger. About three inches. - cjmal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3thanks. now I don't feel like climbing into my bed.
- ZippidyDoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34Timon and Pumba would love it.
- deltaandroid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Imagine biting into your sandwich and find out that crunch was this bad boy!
- k2thelew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27I could take him.
- CaveDog, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I'd hit that...
- cookiebearo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9*her
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5...with a shovel
- SilverBack101, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I always thought the Giant Hissing Beetle used to be the largest. o_o
A contender for the throne maybe? - Sacramentum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Another Eww for today!
- Jergens, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14That's a scary dog! Get away, dog!
I'm Brian Fellow!- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That's weird and I don't like it!
- r55741, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2meh not big enough to ride yet :(
- dannix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I would rather fly on the giant wasp ;)
Lineage style lol
- dannix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I would rather fly on the giant wasp ;)
- thinkstoomuch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I just wanna step on it..might be a satisfying crunch
- poolsclosed, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I don't know about you guys, but I think the larvae are scarier
http://www.ivyhall.district96.k12.il.us/4th/KKhp/1insects/bugpix/Gol_larva3.JPEG
reminds me of zerg defilers - joltjake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3the man delivers what he says, on big ass beetle.
- iamjacksapathy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6http://duggmirror.com/general_sciences/World_s_Largest_Beetle_Picture/
- RupertBear, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'm terrified of tiny beetles, if they got bigger they'd rule the world, :(.
- coyo7e, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Man, you could make a meal out of one or two of those.. I bet they'd be good with garlic and herb sauce.
- aukxsona, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I feel sick thanks!
- emailingRob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Think I saw something with this in on TV once: the presenter said he didn't want to hold it because the claws would tear into his skin. Wus.
- Cafka, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Two words.................Fear Factor
- jun2san, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I thought this was the world's largest beatle.
http://www.worth1000.com/entries/240500/240756qVYU_w.jpg - cannibal666, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I don't like bugs.

Things women say to you in bed?
just kidding - janneh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Google the "largest beetle" and you find something different.
Titanus giganteus - up to 17 cm long.
http://waynesword.palomar.edu/ww0502.htm
Maybe it is size by mass? - Raidenwolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1A little inaccurate as far as I can tell. Don't read Czech but isn't this the largest beetle on this website
http://beetlespace.wz.cz/druhy/fotky/Goliathus_goliathus_01.jpg
look for Goliathus Goliathus should mean giant giant ? Biggy Big? - SolipsismX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Oh god... beetles, more than anything, freak me out. There should be a limit on how big insects are allowed to grow, it's just not right. And stag beetles should have to register those WMD that they carry around.
- josh1413, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I wonder how crunchy that would be in my mouth?
- MrWhoopass, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Would you like to kill bugs? Join the Mobile Infantry and save the Galaxy. Service guarantees citizenship. Would you like to know more?
- SkurvyPirate, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I like kiddie porn
- Miro, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4But will it blend
- thripper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Yes, it blends!

- amoeba, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's also the tastiest ;-)
But the Japanese kabuto-mushi, it's my preference
http://images.google.co.nz/images?svnum=10&hl=en&q=%E3%82%AB%E3%83%96%E3%83%88%E3%83%A0%E3%82%B7&btnG=Search - nlevend, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2And I like Wisconsin: Cold winters=dead bugs that won't live to get that big.
- washcapsfan37, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Suddenly I'm reminded of the recent King Kong remake, we're they fall down into the ravine full of giant insects...
I won't be sleeping well tonight. - gincarnated, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2That thing sends shivers down my spine. I hate bugs.
- triggerfinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The heavily armored adults are so large that when flying, they produce a sound akin to a toy helicopter in flight.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goliathus - UO07, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You would need to have balls as big as the thing itself to hold it like that.
- Steek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Reminds me of Beetle Borgs....I know im not the only one who watched that show.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ringo gained weight?
