BMW unveils "teaser" promotion for new "Device". What the heck is "it"?

bmw.com — Its described as: USB connection, MP3 player, DVD/CD drive, Bluetooth interface, LCD colour display with 65,000 colours, Voice recognition, High processor performance, Low energy consumption, Recharges itself. Alright, DIGG COMMUNITY solve the puzzle, what the heck is this item?

You know, the kind of 19-21 year olds (2 girls, 2 guys) who dress in GAP clothes and go on long roadtrips across the country (having fun and smiling the whole way through) for a living that we see so much in the media and advertising today. :B

    either that or yeah, its some new car like the dude said up there, but who in the right mind would market a BMW to 19-21 year olds without putting it in a movie or making it cost less than 25 grand?

      This is BMW's new hydrogen car - it could be this. These Hydrogen cars are going in to production, according to the article, they were launched end of November - being given to "selected" users 2007. All you have to do now you have one is find a gas station with liquid hydrogen.

      im being a bit captain obvious here but just to remind that the laptop in question has nothing to do with Ferrari besides the logo slapped on it, so Ferrari didnt "make" it, they had probably little do to with design and nothing whatsoever with electronics and production.

      and my vote goes to some sort of vehicle as well, "vehicle" because lets not forget bmw also makes motorcycles and scooters

      Yes... the entire world must be doing something wrong. They are buying PCs and running Windows. The only PC that has never given me BSOD under normal operation was my last home built LINUX box, haha...

      Since then I've moved to OSX, so I don't ever see it either :p.

Better get a laptop!), pop in a "Master and Commander" DVD, and watch it on the glorious 65K LCD screen. Meanwhile, it is charging itself via solar energy (Ha! Didn't see that coming, did you?) and calling 911 on my cell phone via Bluetooth. Now you can get help for yourself in comfort.

      ...okay that came out a bit long-winded. If I were in a car crash, I wouldn't mind having such an airbag.

Likely combining that with some new technology for the driver in terms of navigation systems, personalized settings they can take with them on flash media (combined with an MP3 player perhaps).

And most likely for all of us it would have USB Ports, a DVD Drive, MP3 Player, Recharges itself..etc It must be for a new vehicle or technology they have developed...something along those lines. Although if it is a device, it sounds like I need one.

  • jcalaiaro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Up until now, all the luxuries that you pay for with the arguably bloated price tag of a BMW (coming from the owner of 2) have been stationary, that is to say, you cannot detach you navigation system to use for city walking. In a society that is obsessed with portable electronics, perhaps is it now time for car manufacturers to think outside of the box, or car rather, with their "electronics". If you think about it, all these technologies are already highly commercialized, so this is really not some outlandish proposal.

    Rechargeable, Low energy consumption >>> Portability
    USB >>> Computer Interface
    DVD/MP3 Player >>> A Rival to basically every portable media player currently on the market

    So if we think critically about the implications of the design of this device, then I would have to say the world may very well be introduced to a portable iDrive system, "One device to rule them all". I would highly doubt that this would be a device that could be purchased separately from vehicle though. But, then again....maybe its just a pipe dream of mine, (what I didn't mention is that I'm due for a new car early next year, so I'll keep my fingers crossed).

This may be some follow-up to that interface to it's various computer controlled modules such as the dang radio.
