Most comprehensive review of the GeForce 8800 GTX
bit-tech.net — NVIDIA's latest graphics card - superfast, but don't bother if you don't have a 24" monitor. This review rounds up a bunch of real-world gameplay benchmarks and gives a low-down on the architectural changes. Is this the ultimate Christmas purchase?

- doubleyoube, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Brilliantly written article. I can't wait :)
- ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This is one of a certain group of technology websites that makes money from breaking up their articles into as many pages as possible to maximize ad revenues. To do this, the writers are specifically instructed to be as wordy as humanly possible. This article is a perfect example.
The meat of the whole article can fit on one page. Unfortunately, that meat is surrounded by countless paragraphs of irrelevant fluff, and is in dire need of significant editing.
BREVITY IS A VIRTUE. - inkyblue2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah... wow. i read the article, and this thing is amazing. i mean, yay for high framerates and fancy game effects and all, but what i'm really excited about is the new architecture's potential for general purpose processing. the g80 is basically a little supercomputer.
- SniperSlap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2No kidding. Load times on each page were stupid as I had to weed through their narrow tabulated reviews and huge images, sprinkled with just a little jibjab.
- alBur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Another comprehensive article was also written on www.guru3d.com. I think the graphs were much clearer and understandable; though like this article, it could have been reduced by about 10 pages had it not been so wordy.

- Pinkboy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I love the way they talk about actual gameplay, rather than just canned benchmarks.
- flyuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome - some nice hi-res picz of the card.
- mrmeander, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1ExtremeTech has an article detailing the new architecture: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2054231,00.asp
- Pookeyhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great review as usual from Bit-Tech. Fair, unbiased, and as always, a real world test of performance based on the software we all actually USE!
- Hegemony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, that card is huge. I wonder if I could even fit it in my case without getting in the way. Maybe it's not really any bigger than the 7950s but looks bigger.
- mongrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone here know enough about the previous generation (gen 4) of the Dell XPS gaming rig that could tell me if it has 2 PCI-express slots that suit this card? I know it has at least one... If so, this is the only thing on my Christmas list.
- Antaeus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2so, how much is this thing?
- itsthemechanic, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2OK, so who really needs that much power?
- chaimpot0k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Me.
- Daedalus17, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Will people always ask this stupid question? Do we need better gas mileage and more powerful engines? Do we need better graphics? Do we need better looking screens and high definition TV shows? No, we don't NEED any of those things, but we WANT them.
Case closed. - joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@itsthemechanic.....
Yeah because people buy it now. Then in 4 years time enough people have got it and it's been improved upon to the point where its a fraction of the cost and even more people can afford the tech.
I can't remember what this is called.......... name escapes me..... oh yeah. PROGRESS!!
Or maybe we should all lay down and die. You would like that wouldn't you?.......hmmmmmm?... I see that look...
:P
- motowater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great article. As a game developer i cant wait till direct x 10! This card is not very useful now, but once vista is out + another 6 months, some new dx10 games will come out, its gonna be sweet.
- Evoguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're obviously not a "game developer", because devs have had access to DX10 for almost 1.5 years now (we got builds in march 2005). In addition, the card is definately useful today because it speeds up DX9 by almost 2x in every modern game. Yes it's a DX10 part, but it's pretty impressive at everything else too.
- firebush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Cut the prices in half, and we'll talk. $499 for the lowest end model? Hell no.
- carty01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0HDMI on the card would have been the sweetner. I expect there'll be a 8850 that has quad-SLI capability.
