How to Lose Weight Watching TV
lifehack.org — We are fast becoming a society of statues. A curious species who seem to have our collective asses permanently attached to a chair. Or preferably, a couch. We discovered that within a few years many of us will have identical movement patterns and daily activity levels to that of the oak tree.

- Nekura20x6, on 07/07/2008, -6/+22Unless you're bench pressing the TV while you are watching it, it's not going to happen.
- revjustin2, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4Don't eat.
- Typhoon2009, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Considering how light TVs are getting these days, you'll have to venture out to the junk yard to find a 52" CRT TV.
- Ebulating, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I don't think a 52" CRT has ever been made, it would weigh a thousand pounds.
- vypergts, on 07/07/2008, -0/+7"We have a pool?!?""
- temugen, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I think you'd be gaining weight doing that (muscle).
- Stevethegreat, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Eat less than 1000 kcal a day and you'll see how fast you'll start losing weight, of course that's considered a fast and no doctor recommends it.
Anyhow calorie restriction with medium to NO exercise is the only way to live further like a 10-20% of your lifespan. It's counter-intuitive to say but exercise takes years away from your life, especially if it is vigorous, the same is true with high calorie intake. Do nothing more than the basic maintenance of your body (eating around 1200-1500 cals) and you're bound to live more than those six-pack guys, then again eating like a rabbit, what's the worth of such life in the first place?
- Suneet67, on 07/07/2008, -3/+18Get rid of the remote control and manually walk to the TV to change the channel/volume... not quite as good as pretty much any other form of exercise though...
- billbugger, on 07/07/2008, -0/+8yeah, but then you get sucked into an infomercial at 3am cuz you can't turn the tv off either.
- sebby2022, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3It's happened to me.....Is that bad?
- BoonTobias, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1sacrilege!
- MariusAgricola, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3That works unless you are using equipment that requires the remote to function...
- billbugger, on 07/07/2008, -0/+8yeah, but then you get sucked into an infomercial at 3am cuz you can't turn the tv off either.
- Fuzi, on 07/07/2008, -3/+28install stationary bike or treadmill in front of tv....
- mediahaze, on 07/07/2008, -2/+10step 2: Modify unit to generate power
step 3: Plug TV into unit.
step 4: Loose weight.- skankyBacon, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Step 5: Tighten weight.
Step 6: LOSE weight
- skankyBacon, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Step 5: Tighten weight.
- holymrack, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3This really is the best solution. The whole idea of aerobic exercise is to keep your heart rate up for an extended period of time, usually at least 20 minutes but more like 30. It would be much more productive to bike for the period of a show or half a show than to only do it in 3 minute chunks.
- passedoutghost, on 07/08/2008, -0/+0That's exactly what I do. It's quite fun actually, but don't bench press while watching something funny like Family Guy or Boston Legal because I nearly killed myself doing that.
- mediahaze, on 07/07/2008, -2/+10step 2: Modify unit to generate power
- cpower01, on 07/07/2008, -6/+42By eating less calories than you consume?
- japanesepagoda, on 07/07/2008, -2/+43The way you worded that, my friend, does not make sense :)
- cpower01, on 07/07/2008, -3/+10sshh!!!
It made sense in my head. Still does :S - teh_techie, on 07/07/2008, -1/+8How about - Eat less calories than your body requires. That is what he meant.
- hiro, on 07/07/2008, -2/+5What he actually meant was "Eat FEWER calories..."
Please don't ***** up the English language any more!
- cpower01, on 07/07/2008, -3/+10sshh!!!
- Typhoon2009, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Exercise helps stimulate fat-burning though >.>

- TheInformer, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1It's easy to lose weight while watching TV. Just make sure you only watch the nude biographies of Bea Arthur and William Conrad.
- ARupp, on 07/07/2008, -1/+13How many times can your thumb change the channel in one hour?

- Badandy127, on 07/07/2008, -3/+2A vehemently disagree with the writer of this story. Watching Richard Simmons exercise on TV does not confer any health benefits to the viewer.
- Badandy127, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0*I*

- gskill, on 07/07/2008, -3/+4I bet this is what all those couch potatoes are waiting for.
- AriaStar, on 07/07/2008, -3/+5Treadmills, stationary bikes, mini stair-steppers, or laying on the floor doing leg-lifts all can be done while watching TV without disrupting watching it. But Americans in general are too ***** lazy and then bitch about the rest of the world not keeping up with space for fat asses.
- Typhoon2009, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Agreed. Gyms have had TVs (either right on the equipment or big TVs for the whole gym) in the cardio areas for years. If you don't want to / can't go out to the gym, cardio equipment isn't that expensive these days (especially considering that using it just 30 minutes a day can mitigate a bunch of health problems that would cost you way more than the investment in a bike or climber or eliptical or treadmill).
- 4d669, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4How to lose weight browsing the internet is superior:
http://binaryfractal.blogspot.com/2008/02/how-to-l ... - billbugger, on 07/07/2008, -4/+3DON'T
- beware001, on 07/07/2008, -2/+5Your local gym probably has treadmills and bikes with tvs in front of them... but whatever floats ur boat.
- LaBella023, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1it also comes with that stinking sweaty guy who thinks deodorant is for pansies on the treadmill next to you.
- freezerburn666, on 07/07/2008, -0/+18but... torrents don't come with commercials :(
- phorty40, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4Oh noes! Teh Warez community is doomed!
- Pittance, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4Christ this article was a no-brainer. And he wasn't concise or direct at all. He was just confusing and round-about so you would half to read at least half his blog while insulting anyone trying to lose weight. The bastard.
- NYCPALADIN, on 07/07/2008, -2/+6How about turning off the TV, go out and get some fresh air. It doesn't take much to lose weight. Just a few minutes and control your diet. It's not rocket science. Just get outside and walk for 15 minutes and you'll notice a difference.
- PopcornDave, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2But... but... then how will you know what you need to buy?
- buckchoris, on 07/07/2008, -2/+4Nintendo Wii certainly helps.
- BoneheadFarker, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1I've heard DDR helps too. I'm going to test this theory, starting tonight.
- donkz, on 07/07/2008, -1/+6Did everyone just have "I thought of that first" moment?
- BoonTobias, on 07/07/2008, -3/+3what about gaming?
and anyone who mentions wii fit gets smacked upside his head - seantubridy, on 07/07/2008, -0/+9Watch Cinemax and spank it?
- PopcornDave, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Maybe if you're 12 or 13? Or has Cinemax evolved beyond soft core attempts at porn?
- chrisinsocalif, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1You can lose weight watching TV if you power it with a bicycle or a treadmill.
- success4uteam, on 07/07/2008, -4/+1TGTBT - You'd have to spend A LOT of hours in front of the tube.
Chris -
http://MyInternetBusinessSuccessOnline.com - yellowsnowman, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Design a treadmill to generate electricity when someone runs on it, than hook the TV up to it. This is the only way it will work...unless you saw off your leg while watching TV. That can be considered loosing weight too.
- Namakemono, on 07/07/2008, -2/+3***** more often

- darkfus, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2Too bad for people who have a DVR, their fat asses will just keep getting bigger.
- BloggerNewbie, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0I personally seldom watch TV but I am in front of the computer for more than 3 hrs a day! And although there are plenty of advertisements, there are no commercials so I guess I will have to find my exercise else where or at a different time...
- PhrosTT, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1put a TV in front of any exercise equipment. wow. insightful.
- Kenzan, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1What are we, a nation of wussies when we have to have some friggin' "Exercise Scientist" tell us to work out at the commercials?!!!!
Jesus...Just go to the goddamn gym, people. - Spamiclese, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Here's an ingenious method to try:
