- warrior007, on 05/16/2008, -8/+47Deborah Jack, chief executive of the National Aids Trust, said:In National Condom Week, the British public need a wake-up call on condom use.
"Too many people don't know the basic facts on how condoms prevent a sexually transmitted infection such as HIV.
"Too many people are inconsistent in how they use condoms and too many people give up on condoms in a relationship without a health check-up, thus possibly harming their health or that of their sexual partner.
"We need to educate the whole population in the importance of condoms.- Hoov, on 05/16/2008, -14/+8Oooh baby I like it rawww, ooh baby I like it raaaawww!!
- XxtraLarGe, on 05/16/2008, -0/+36I don't buy it. Teens & young adults hear about condoms all the time and simply chose not to listen. The only thing more well known by most teenagers than using condoms to prevent pregnancy & disease is not drinking and driving, and still a huge number of teens drink and drive every year too.
- Niightwitch, on 05/16/2008, -0/+21I agree. There's so much info available to teens that they're saturated with it. The only answer is that they choose not to listen. Throwing more money at the problem to increase education isn't the answer. I don't know the answer.

- lisaawesome, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5I seriously don't understand why people choose not to use protection. I engage a lot of other risky behavior but that is one thing that I will not risk. I'm 22 and live in a more conservative state and it is absolutely drilled into us from 5th grade on up that if you are going to have sex use a condom. I even remember the AIDS video we watched in the 5th grade (about 12 years ago) about how if you don't keep a properly maintained "fence" AIDS is gonna invade your "house"! It was corny as hell but it has obviously stuck with me.

Then people will stop having sex outside of wedlock!!!!!!!"

- Mullinsmcd, on 05/16/2008, -1/+7US is way worse then Europe when it comes to STDs and Teen Pregnancy and I'm sure just as many kids are bumping uglies. We have a dysfunctional society where abstinence only education and religious doctrine are used in place of simple talks about what sex is and how to protect yourself and your partner. If you have kids or are thinking about having kids, please use some of the many resources on the internet to figure out the best way to discuss this issue with those who you love (or even to investigate it for yourself). Please don't be like my parents who neglected to have the talk with me and I ended up finding out via Cinemax (and my wife found out via Sailor Moon Hentai, no joke)

- compu73rg33k, on 05/16/2008, -0/+19Guess you're not an expert on Catholic dogma. But don't worry it's not a terrible ignorance to claim! But the Catholic Church still does preach against condom use, citing that the only type of sex one should have is unprotected vaginal intercourse with the intention of procreation and any "handsex" should be reserved only for foreplay. Anal sex is bad, always.

I'm sure, he's saying the idiocy/ignorance of careless and untested people not using protection is sickening... which it is. - Darkhacker, on 05/16/2008, -2/+3I've never noticed *that* much of a difference. It's not like I don't enjoy it or can't cum. If you get good condoms, you can barely tell you are wearing it at all. I would much rather sacrifice a small bit of sensitivity for protection from STDs. Besides, sex is about pleasing your partner more than anything. If you're only looking out for your own needs, stick to masturbation.

I've never really considered not wearing a condom, and my girlfriend is not on birth control so it's one more reason to keep covering up. I'd love to try sex without a rubber but I just don't see it being worth the risks yet.- xtinamo, on 05/16/2008, -1/+12Not to detract you from wearing a condom, but sex without one is a completely different experience.

- BestJaxx, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3I'm at least waiting until I'm 16, and part of the reason I haven't had sex, and don't plan on it any time soon, is because not only do I have little desire for sex, but also there are very few in my school that I would even consider losing my virginity with. Not because they are ugly, but because they are not respectable people.

- starskii, on 05/16/2008, -6/+10Really frightening... the thing is that irrespective of the amount of awareness or education that is going on, it's not really changing habits.. it's a big problem
- Qong, on 05/16/2008, -8/+62I'm going to go ahead and assume that they simply polled an extremely ignorant group of people.
If not, then I have to agree with starskii's comment above: The risk of sexually transmitted diseases and infections is common knowledge amongst all people in western countries. If half of them still aren't using proper protection with people that they've just met, then I don't see how more funding and more education is going to help. It should be written off as ignorance on their part.
Sadly for those of you in the UK, you have the National Health Service there to make up for the mistakes of the ignorant. There's nothing more fair than burdening intelligent people with taxes to make up for the failures of others... If those statistics hold true for the US, then hopefully we don't implement a public health system.- johnomaz, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3One would wish that was true. But i bet the group polled was anyone off the street that walked in to take the poll.

- benjpw, on 05/16/2008, -2/+4Typical social darwinist sounding tripe. Lame.
I'm sure you do plenty of unhealthy and stupid things that I would look down upon you for.. quit trying to mask libertarian diatribes in sheep's clothing :P- Qong, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1What I do is none of your concern. You aren't paying for my health care, so don't worry about it.
You're wrong anyway, I do very few things that are unhealthy.- StaticThunder, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2So you never eat red meat, you never drink alcohol, and you never drive in a car or go out in the sun, play aggressive sports or have sex. You must be no fun at all at parties.
And yet when your insurance runs out because you get a major illness (and if you live long enough, you will), and you go bankrupt paying for nice American health care, I will be paying for your emergency room care with a $400 aspirin tablet the next time you fall ill, and dealing with the economic impact of your foreclosed house and unpaid debts.
If you are a typical American, you aren't even solvent when you're healthy. - Qong, on 05/17/2008, -2/+1I think that you need to use a few more stereotypes there...
You should actually try doing some research, educating yourself so that you can then speak intelligently about these topics, instead of replying with nonsense and burying my comments.
Literally everything that you said in your comment is a stereotype that holds little truth when you look at the facts: Attempting to attack me because your argument is weak, trashing our health care system, $400 aspirin, and even an "Americans are fat and unhealthy, lolz" comment at the end.
You are a failure and should no longer reply to my comments; if anything, digg them up and move on. - StaticThunder, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3My "stereotype" includes everyone in the U.S. up to one standard deviation above the mean. So unless you are in the Forbes 100 wealthiest people, you're just a bunch of bravado and bad ideas about how to handle health care.
When you carry zero debt, and can afford your own long term care (to the tune of $1M plus), then you can thank your stars for the society that made your wealth possible and maybe enlighten us with how to bring everyone else up to your level of existence. The rest of us have to hang together, for we will surely hang apart.

- Trooper77, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2People shouldn't be having sex with people they just met...let alone before marriage. How about that? There's a great way to prevent STDs. Yet people are so ignorant they keep on doing it. Silly silly world we live in.
- Hamletlere, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3What, in particular, is ignorant about pre-marital sex? In general, I consider it a good thing to experience as many aspects of a relationship prior to committing to wedding vows. I'm sure many people who wait until they are married to have sex experience problems in this area of their relationship.
But what do I know? I'm just a guy who's been happily married for 10 years to the woman I was having pre-marital sex with. Guess I'm just ignorant.

- shadowman99, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Yeah. That never ever happens in the US.
I don't know who piss me off more - people who staunchly stand against providing teenagers with realistic information and counseling on how to avoid unplanned pregnancy, or the people who snidely pass judgment on teenager mothers. Ironically these same people are usually pro-life, yet their judgmental attitudes are the very thing that make many young girls terminate their pregnancy. Then, at the end of all that, these same people will also tell the same girl she's damned, after all they did to make a teenager feel trapped into the decision.

- thescimitar, on 05/16/2008, -7/+22If you think abstinence is a solution for teenage sex, you are sadly mistaken.
Eight years of abstinence rich sex education in the US has left us with STD infections at 25% of the population under 25. - mike17032, on 05/16/2008, -3/+20Just because you couldnt get laid doesnt mean others shouldnt be able to enjoy it.
- uziko, on 05/16/2008, -4/+3Uh, why don't they stop having sex? Uh, because sex is the 1# most enjoyable part of life, and 100% safe and effective with condom usage.
Why don't you just chop off your own dick if you don't like sex. Don't try to ruin it for other people though.
The problem is that they aren't wearing condoms. The solution is for them to wear condoms.
That's like saying. Having children can create murderers, so why the heck don't we stop having children.
Oh wait I agree with that in your case. DON'T HAVE AND ***** CHILDREN, AND FOLLOW MY SUGGESTION OF CUTTING YOUR DICK OFF

- AWBoy666, on 05/16/2008, -3/+22That it does. It's barely pleasurable at all. What's the point of sex when it's not even enjoyable?
Condoms are great, but they run sex for the man. Why can't we come up with something better?- chedabob, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1There's plenty of alternatives, but none work as well as a condom.
- JointVenture, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1NONE of the other options work at all as far as STDs are concerned.
There are ways to make them work better, a little and I mean a little bit of astro on the inside of the condom makes all the difference.

- ooowahooo, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Its true that 90% of teens nowadays are retarded. But just as many were retarded in previous generations as well.
- fugazied, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Teens today are no more retarded than we all were. The main difference is the society they are growing up in is increasingly high stimulus, electronic, fast pleasure orientated. How easy it is to get porn now compared to when a teen was growing up in 1970. I didn't see any hardcore porn till I was about 16. Any kid with google access can get it as soon as they access a PC, at any age
The changes to society make puberty and growing up a lot more complicated and confusing I have no doubt. Life isn't as simple for kids anymore...- ummagummas08, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1This is a good point, I'd like to see the difference in a child that was raised around the internet and computers, and one that was raised out in the country, like sheltered from it.
- Harboggles, on 05/16/2008, -21/+26***** the religious right. They forced the entire country to learn "abstinence only" instead of proper sexual conduct like using condoms, more importantly they fail the young women (and some men) in their education of learning to give proper blow jobs..

- ahawks, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5ummm, what? It sounds like you're defending abstinence only education.
Which means you think proper sex ed "guarantees" the spread of STDs, and telling kids "don't have sex. let's move on" properly motivates them to never touch each other, right?
How about showing kids pictures of what a herpes sore looks like, and informing them that 20% of the male US population has herpes, 25% of the women.
And telling them you can be a carrier and not even have symptoms, so they need proper tests.
Or what about gonorrea or chlamidia, with wonderful pictures of puss oozing out where it shouldn't. Or genital warts.
Teach them that there ARE risks, and abstinence is the only guarantee not to risk yourself, but realistically most people end up having sex at some point, hopefully, and they need to make safe decisions when taking that step.- KingBabi, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Scare tactics don't work. Teach kids where the nearest planned parenthood is, where to buy condoms and the morning-after pill, etc. That's what ***** helps. Puss stays on their minds for a while, but then thoughts quickly turn to puss-y.
- SoyCockail, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1My high school did just about all of that.
"How about showing kids pictures of what a herpes sore looks like, and informing them that 20% of the male US population has herpes, 25% of the women."

"Or what about gonorrea or chlamidia, with wonderful pictures of puss oozing out where it shouldn't. Or genital warts."
Yep, that one too even though the teacher wasn't allowed to show them. She just covered the windows on the doors of the class and the school turned a blind eye.
"Teach them that there ARE risks, and abstinence is the only guarantee not to risk yourself..."
Thats where the school failed us. Thats all they taught. They briefly mentioned condoms, but heavily stressed that abstinence was the only way to be 100% safe. To their credit it did work. Most people after coming out of health class where "sex education" was taught said that they would never have sex again. We even got these cool lanyards to show that we would remain abstinent. The problem was after about a week everyone completely forgot about it. - Netrilix, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1If I remember correctly, my high school skimmed the abstinence part of the argument. They mentioned that it was the only 100% guaranteed way, but they weren't under the delusion that spending an entire semester on it was going to make a huge difference. They taught as many forms of protection as they possibly could, gave stats on each one, etc. We got the STD pictures and all of that as well. Personally, I think they did a great job.
On a side note, I believe abstinence-only education is the worst idea I've ever heard of. I know far too many "good little Christians" who turned into complete sluts once they ended up in a public school (be it high school or college). They break free of the abstinence-only education, and now they're out in the real world with no knowledge of the alternatives to abstinence. I think abstinence-only options should definitely be taught, but you need to go a heck of a lot further than that to be very effective.
- ahawks, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5ummm, what? It sounds like you're defending abstinence only education.

- eagle200363, on 05/16/2008, -6/+1It is not the religious rights fault. Most school districts in the US hardly even touch on abstinence only. I used to live in one of the most conservative counties in the nation, Waukesha Wisconsin and I hardly heard anything about abstinence. Teenagers know exactly what they are doing, they are not dumb. They do not need a teacher to show them or teach them these things. Maybe is we actually did teach abstinence, and the consequences that come with having sex people would be less likely to get pregnant, or impregnate someone, at a young age when they cannot meet those consequences. We need to stop sheltering our children allowing them to think that there are no negative consequences for their actions, and allowing them to not have to deal with the consequences (aka allowing abortion)

- ikarimaru, on 05/16/2008, -8/+21As long as there's Abstinence-only education in schools, we will have this problem. Schools don't need to be a moral authority on pre-marital relations, but they have an obligation to educate children on health issues which impact them, since the parents are obviously absent in the conversation.
Point is, kids are going to have sex. It happens. For the love of God, people, teach them to act responsibly.- eagle200363, on 05/16/2008, -6/+1Yes, lets encourage them to act responsibly, aka DON'T HAVE SEX! Teenagers already know the consequences of having sex, and particularly unprotected sex. However if we can beat it in their brains that having sex before marriage is one of the biggest risks you can take maybe some of them will figure it out. I don't find pre-marital sex to be immoral but it is one of the biggest risks a person can take, and could turn out to ruin a persons future.
- ikarimaru, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3It being premarital sex has nothing to do with it. Idiots translate a school's responsible sexual education program as a school-sanctioned okay to have orgies in the halls.
Sleeping with multiple partners while not using condoms is the problem. If you think just screaming "DON'T HAVE SEX" at them is going to solve the problem more than telling them "You run the risk of dying an excruciatingly prolonged death due to AIDs if you don't act responsibly with sexual partners", you either were never a teen or you just don't remember what it was like to be one. - ummagummas08, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2The no sex before marriage argument is so tired and overused. There's nothing you can do about teens having sex, they're going to do it regardless. Honestly, did you wait until you were married to first have sex with your wife?? How long did that marriage last?
My guess is if you did wait, you've already broken up - but if you knew before hand that they were good in the sack, then the relationship lasted a lot longer.
In my opinion, having a good sex life with your partner makes your relationship so much more enjoyable. If there's no physical attraction, it's just not going to work. Your 'no sex before marriage' argument is probably the reason why so many people hate being married, or are divorced.
I think the biggest problem today is not that teens don't want to use condoms; it's rather that the hassle you have to go through in getting them is too much. If they were issued to everyone, no one would have a problem using them. - GlassAgate, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I'm getting real sick of the idea that having sex before
marriage is ultimately bad. Someone can have sex
before marriage, and turn out fine. Someone can avoid
sex before marriage, then get married, and their partner
can pick up a STD from a bad batch of blood from a blood
transfusion.
Yes, someone IS less likely to pick up an
STD if they avoid sex before marriage, but they then also
have to make sure that their partner
is clean, that neither of them cheats, and
that they never get bad blood. I don't know
how often someone gets bad blood, if ever,
but I figured it happens sometimes. Well,
I do know of a couple of cases where people
picked up an STD from a hospital who reused
needles.
Simply having sex before marriage doesn't
mean you're going to pick up an STD.
- ikarimaru, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3It being premarital sex has nothing to do with it. Idiots translate a school's responsible sexual education program as a school-sanctioned okay to have orgies in the halls.
- tmbrwolf19, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Really? This has nothing to do with sex ed in my opinion. I had sex ed in school, and we talked about all those wonderful diseases. We talked about abstinence only etc. But guess what, when you're standing in front of a naked chick and you're horny as hell, all thats stuff jumps out of your head preeetty damn quick for more pressing matters. I generally use a condom, but there is times i haven't. It's silly to assume that everyone is going to use a condom 100% of the time. We all have lapses in judgment or are trusting when we should be cautious regardless.
It's no different then taking drivers ed and then going out and speeding. We all know we shouldn't do it, but do it anyways. This is a problem that is never going away as long as human beings have a sex drive, no amount of education is going to change that.- ikarimaru, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Knowing what's right and what's wrong in sexual behavior is different from acting on it, of course. However, you give people the best tools possible to work with and generally they will make sound decisions. People screw up, but that's not my point; It's preparation that makes the difference.
- tmbrwolf19, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1But how would removal of abstinence only fix that? It's not like they don't cover use of condoms, safe-sex, and sexually transmitted diseases. They just suggest the best thing to do is wait. Preaching safe sex may work for high school students, but really, once you hit 20 and are out of the house at college/university things change. The idea that education is ever going to change things, no matter how its approached is silly. Short of castrating young people, they are gonna have sex, and no matter how prepared they are, they are gonna have it unprotected.
- eagle200363, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0The idea of not doing anything because so many people are doing it is just ridiculous, has to be the worst argument one can use.
- ikarimaru, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Knowing what's right and what's wrong in sexual behavior is different from acting on it, of course. - krellor, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7"that having sex before marriage is one of the biggest risks you can take".
Um, no. Unprotected sex, I'll give you. Biggest risks? How about intravenous drug use? Or literally pages of of things that are less safe then sex with a condom. Having done a lot of stupid things in my life having sex with a condom on doesn't even rank on my list of stupid *****.- eagle200363, on 05/16/2008, -2/+0wow you really like to take my words out of context. Of course those things would be worse. However the possibility of a young person getting an STD or becoming pregnant/impregnating someone is still pretty damned serious. Whereas generally most people can afford a child when they are married, at least more so than a young unmarried couple.
- Paranoidmarvin, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I can see what you mean, but it's only in the US that you are taught like that.
In the UK, we practically have condoms shoved down our throats so these statistics are more interesting... - issachar, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2I assume you're taking about all those abstinence only programs they have the UK. What's that you say? They don't have those programs in the UK?
Then what on earth were you talking about? Did you even read the article? I believe the point was that the education ain't working.
So the solution is "more education"? I believe Benjamin Franklin said something about the definition of insanity being doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.- Paranoidmarvin, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Perhaps my wording wasn't clear enough.
The fact that we are encouraged to use condoms, and abstaining isn't even suggested makes these figures more interesting, especially when they are put in the right context, rather than the US one
- Paranoidmarvin, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Perhaps my wording wasn't clear enough.

- DiscoLando, on 05/16/2008, -7/+14Is it just out of the question to expect people to have one sex partner for an entire lifetime? I know I'm in the minority, but I didn't have sex until I was 24, and it was with my current wife who likewise was a virgin until we got married. I've never had to wear a condom or fret about catching some disease.
- ikarimaru, on 05/16/2008, -1/+20That's fantastic for you, but some of us thought we were making the right choice at the time, wore condoms, and ended up NOT staying with the person. No harm, no foul. It was completely your choice to not have sex until you were 24, and I admire that, but different strokes for different folks (pun intended).

- FecalHurler, on 05/16/2008, -3/+1Why shouldn't sex be enjoyed? As long as it's done safely, start as early as possible. Trust me youngins-- It's great, but nothing worth holding out for.
- DiscoLando, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Define 'safely'. Condoms aren't a guarantee... you're still rolling the dice. Multiply that by the number of sex partners you have and suddenly you're looking at a significant non-zero risk.
I 'held out' and am supremely happy I did - and I enjoy sex greatly. It's one of the greatest things ever and should be treated with ultimate respect. It's ultimately the individuals call, but the only guarantee to be 'safe' is to remain monogamous for life with someone who is likewise monogamous with you.- ikarimaru, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Monogamy is no guarantee that you will be sexually 'safe'. You can still contract a disease through other means such as a blood transfusion. It's sad, and it's a near-zero possibility, but it DOES still happen.
- DiscoLando, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Define 'safely'. Condoms aren't a guarantee... you're still rolling the dice. Multiply that by the number of sex partners you have and suddenly you're looking at a significant non-zero risk.
- AWBoy666, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Actually, considering the number of relationships that I've had (and left since the women turned out to be insane in one way or another), YES. It is definitely too much to ask.
You are in the extreme minority to meet your wife like that. The EXTREME. It takes a most people many many tries before finding the right person.- DiscoLando, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5The thing is, I had multiple relationships before I met my wife, and I was able to weed out the ones that were insane, without having sex with any of them.
That's my point - do whatever it takes to find the one that is for you, but in the meantime, decide to not have sex until after you find that one and commit to them. You may not agree with the philosophy, but it's the only one I'm aware of that has a 100% guarantee of safe sex included - assuming your partner likewise follows the same philosophy.
- DiscoLando, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5The thing is, I had multiple relationships before I met my wife, and I was able to weed out the ones that were insane, without having sex with any of them.
- krellor, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3While it is cool that you waited until you got married, I would say it is foolish to hope/expect the same from everyone else. It would be like me, being a vegetarian, expecting everyone else to become one. Not gonna happen. What you should hope for is that people get educated and are smart and respectful when going about it.
- Gabberwok, on 05/16/2008, -2/+1You being in a monogamous relationship doesn't guarantee your wife is in one. People should still wear condoms.

Negative - having no idea if your partner is good in bed.- DiscoLando, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2You'd have a valid point, if one's capacity for being good in bed was a fixed value determined at birth. You know, people can learn how to have good sex.

- PhattyPhattMatt, on 05/16/2008, -6/+76Did anyone else see that ONLY 200 people were surveyed? That is a extremely low number of people surveyed compared to the amount of people in Britain. This article needs more information before it goes off scaring everyone!
- Gabberwok, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3You realize that's not how statistics work right? I mean, Gallup is only asking 1000 people who they support for president, that's an incredibly low number relative to the population of the US... The margin of error on 200 people is higher than for 1000 people, but you still can get some significant results.
- PhattyPhattMatt, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Thanks for the Stats lesson, but it is still only 200 people. The results can be greatly skewed compared to the population. It would have been a much better survey with 1000 people.
- shig, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1They polled the equivalent of less than 10 classrooms, maximum, and they pretend that number can be scaled across all economic boundaries, family backgrounds, etc. It is preposterous to think this is reliable knowledge if you consider it anything more than a badly reasoned guess.
- alvinrod, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2If it were a truly random sample than 200 is more than enough to get a good indication. In statistics 50 is generally accepted as being enough to get fairly accurate results, but this only holds as long as the sample is completely random. By that I mean all teenagers names were put into a big hat and drawn at random (or the technological equivalent).
British teenagers may not know much about condoms, or may just not care. If the question only asked if they used a condom during sex (assuming that they first have sex) it doesn't tell you why or why not. Of course this doesn't change the fact that you don't know any more about statistics than they appear to know about condoms and STD prevention. - Gabberwok, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2I always trust statistics comments from a person with a Confederate flag avatar...

And they're STILL constricting at the base. Someone really needs to create a company that allows a customer to make a mold of their penis, send it in, and order custom-fitted condoms based on the mold. - GREENEMAC, on 05/16/2008, -0/+11The problem is nowadays, many people will date eachother for a month or more, stop using condoms during sex because they trust eachother, then break up and do the same thing with new partners. Eventually down the line someone WILL contract an STD from a partner they "trust". Condoms do suck, and it's really awkward to make a partner get tested, but you won't regret it.
- staple, on 05/16/2008, -1/+9My highschool was the only public school I know of in Georgia to not teach abstinence. We had a nurse from a local hospital come in to our health class weekly to give us real information about the risks of sex and what precautions we could take to avoid being infected or risking pregnancy. Looking back, I am so proud that the administrators realized that you can't tell highschoolers (who are about 95% hormone) to stop having sex. Things like this happen because there is a stigma associated with having sex in a lot of places. Some people would rather risk contracting an STD than having their parents find a condom wrapper in their sock drawer. Parents and schools have to maintain an open and honest dialog with kids about sex and the religious right need to concede that their misinformation is more immoral than premarital sex.
- AWBoy666, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Find a way for sex to feel as good with a condom as without and then people will wear them. Why is it that no one discusses how much condoms ruin sex for men?!?!

But I say..."Too many people don't know the basic facts on how waiting to have sex until marriage prevents ALL sexually transmitted infections such as HIV."
God's plan is for one woman and one man to be married for life...and sex is only to be enjoyed inside the marriage bond. Sorry, the Truth hurts for the pagan crowd...but look at the results of this fornicating society...I know I know...you can't stop them from having sex, right? Wrong! If parents actually cared for and loved their kids enough to train them properly, the kids would listen. Not in all cases of course, but there are many more teens choosing to wait until marriage than the main stream media will ever let you know about.- nmnnotmyname, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3These are the kinds of reasons I'm atheist even though my mother was christian. You insist that you have it all figured out... You know what stops people from doing stupid things? Common sense... Unfortunately, there is a huge lack of that.
- shanson13, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1What reasons? Because some people hold a Biblical world view instead of a secular one? This is a reason for you to be an atheist? Because some people hope and pray their children won't engage in pre-marrital sex, so they won't be at risk for STD's, pregnancy, emotional trauma etc etc. This is a reason you are an atheist? I don't insist I have anything figured out...I DO insist that God has His creation (us) completely figured out...and He gave us the manual to life in His Word, the Bible. Healthy, joyful, fruitful, fulfilling, loving, wonderful LIFE is available to ALL who read God's Word and apply it to their lives. And this is a reason you are an atheist? Where do you think your "common" sense comes from? As an atheist, it couldn't come from anything more powerful than yourself right? The Bible is FULL of common sense advise for everyday living. You don't want there to be a God, because that way you can live your life anyway you want, without any moral accountability..isn't that so? Anyway...your argument isn't with ME, its with GOD. Good luck with that...
- orblivion, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2The truth may hurt, but that's not why people will flame you for your post. You have to spend more effort explaining why God's plan is significantly more effective than using condoms before people will believe that they've been denying some sort of truth.

I feel sorry for yours if you have any- shanson13, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1You feel sorry for my kids? They have a loving Mom and Dad (crazy isn't it...a home with two parents, married, of the opposite sex) who are raising them up in a Godly home (that doesn't mean that I'M Godly...it means we put God first). Training/raising whatever you want to call it. They love Jesus, their parents, their siblings, their friends...they are some of the most loving and sweet children on the planet (not that I'm biased in anyway lol). The Bible says to train up a child in the way they should go, so that when they are old, they won't turn from it. Something wrong with training my children to be loving to others, morally straight, upstanding, God loving, caring, peaceful, joyful, educated, adventurous, friendly and fun? If that type of upbringing causes you to feel sorry for them...go right ahead. God bless you.
- sb66, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2How do you know God's plan? Thats an incredibly presumptuous statement. Did God tell you? If not, do you believe everything your preacher tells you?

of all the people i know, and im talking about close friends, people i know from school, people i do and/or have worked with. i could easily say about 500 people, only a small presentage have told me they will wait. of that percentage only about 2 of them still are waiting. and those 2 people i believe could actually do it. children will have sex, you tell them not to, so of course being a kid its one of the first things you try to do.
TRAIN YOUR KIDS?? they are not dogs!!
also God gave christians the freedom of choice. if you take that away from the child by, training them.... you are taking that choice away and defiying the will of that same God. so shut up and go repent.
(im christian by the way, just not cathlic)- shanson13, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Wow...for being a "Christian" you surprise me with your lack of knowledge of the Scriptures and with you hateful type of response. Where are these kids who are waiting? Well a bunch of them attend my church for one...there are many young couples recently married who chose to wait for marriage to have sex, as God commands. Have you ever bothered to open your Bible and read God's Word for yourself? Here are a couple of verses from God's enduring Word of Truth that you need to read...
Proverbs 22:6
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
Proverbs 22:5-7 (in Context)
Ephesians 6:4
Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Hebrews 13:4
Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
And lastly, as for your advice to "shut up and go repent" I welcome your opinion and will not respond in kind. I am a sinner like the rest of humanity, in need of repentance, but not because of this post. Everything I said is Biblically accurate and I will not compromise the Word of God just because it might be unpopular with the lost.
Leviticus 19:17
" 'Do not hate your brother in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in his guilt."
1 John 4:20 (New Living Translation)
20 If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a Christian brother or sister,[a] that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?
God bless you and keep you.

- xstarsprinklesx, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Way to generalize. Not all people who don't wait until marriage are running around having casual sex all over the place, and are certainly not all pagans (my high school had a large Southern Baptist population, and they were almost all in serious relationships, having parties with alcohol, etc. and almost definitely having sex). I myself waited until my current boyfriend, who I started dating at 24, and to whom I am now engaged. I am agnostic and definitely not Christian, and was never told by my parents to make a decision one way or the other, except to be safe and careful. It was my decision to wait and to be honest, I think they would be surprised if they knew he was my first.
Also, "if parents actually cared for and loved their kids enough to train them properly, the kids would listen" – I see you have a 14 year old daughter. I guess you've had a lucky ride so far if you still believe that, but hold on tight because there's no way you still will after the next eight years.- shanson13, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Your response is based on a non-biblical world view. A pagan is someone who does not believe in the One true God, the God of the Bible. I didn't say that Christians didn't have sex outside of marriage, many do...its still wrong and against God's plan for us. What I'm saying is that IF parents actually raised their kids and trained them in the ways of the Lord, based on God's teaching, not man's...then they would have a chance at least of waiting until marriage. My daughter is almost 15, she knows more about the Bible in many areas than most adults I know, and she is committed to staying pure until marriage. I am committed to helping her to stay pure and a virgin until marriage, as that is God's plan clearly stated for us in His Word. If you don't believe in God or the Bible...then this won't matter to you anyway.

You want people to protect themselves? Stop giving them incentives to be baby factories, im tired of wasting 23%+ percent of the GNP to the welfare state in this country.
When are people going to understand you have to do for yourself. The government isn there for hand outs, those hand outs come at the expense of someone elses hard work.
Get off your lazy ***** ass and be responsible for yourself.
