- geyq, on 12/22/2007, -1/+1I agree with the statement that smoking too many cigarettes are the cause for serious illnesses. Too much of everything is harmful for us such as eating, drinking..etc. Besides many heart attacks are caused by bad eating habits rather than smoking.
- charbarred, on 12/23/2007, -0/+1I can grant you that but how many smokers do you know that can actually keep to 3 cigarettes a day? It's true that too many cigarettes are the problem, but how many of us actually signed up to be reliant on a pack a day when they first started smoking?
Also, his statement that smoking is relaxing is not exactly true. After you finish a cigarette your blood nicotine level starts going down immediately. That "relaxing" feeling you get is actually the feeling of satisfying your addiction. If you weren't a smoker to begin with you wouldn't feel that. Smoking is actually a stimulant, it doesn't physically relax you unless you are craving nicotine badly.
I better go light up now...

- RoryKearney, on 12/23/2007, -0/+3You are rationalizing. The only way smoking could ever be ok is if one only smokes up to 3 cigarettes a day and who of us can do that? Even then your lungs will say ugh. The real facts are that anytime you are not actively smoking you are going through withdrawal, so you are not in a good place, so you have to light up to just feel stabilized. Since is is impossible to smoke most places anymore, what is the benefit of always wishing you had more nicotine coming in to keep your level up. It is an addiction trap. Yes, you enjoy it, if you call imbibing chemicals so you aren't withdrawing, enjoyment. Unless one is smoking, one is wishing they were. At least that is the way it is with most people. Just look at em. Standing out in the freezing cold for a few unsatisfying drags. I speak from experience. The first key is to stop saying you enjoy them. They are your enemy. Then you are ready to start spending years trying to kick.
