- hoopadoo, on 11/13/2007, -1/+13I couldn't be happier for Mark Messier. He has been a great ambassador for hockey. There isn't a player in that class I wouldn't take for my fantasy hockey team.
- profOblivion, on 11/13/2007, -1/+6I wouldn't take any of them. They're all on pace for zero goals and zero assists.
Seriously though, class acts, the lot of them.- smacksaw, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3Actually I think Scott Stevens just being the badass he is could still get you some PIM if those are a positive and not a negative in your league.
- sillywampa, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2um, actually, no. He'd bury your opponents with clean hits and keep pucks out of your net. You're thinking of the Washington Capitals Stevens who would drop the gloves at any given time.
- smacksaw, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Though I think you proved my point there - dropping glove isn't the only thing that makes you badass...being brutal does it as well. Take the difference in penalties from the Caps to the Devils and you can just remove the fighting and you're left with the penalties he got for punishing and intimidating people without being a thug, but a complete player.

- loudthing, on 11/13/2007, -2/+5NFTA: "Scott Stevens will be awarded the Toughest Badass in the League award."
- timbitca, on 11/13/2007, -0/+13That's gotta be one of the if not the best inductee class into the HHOF. Really.
Also, go Al McInnis! Always was one of my favorites, being a Maritimer certainly doesn't hurt in my book either :)- Pake, on 11/13/2007, -0/+6Love McInnis. The guy had a hell of a shot and I wish I could of watched him one last time, but the strike fubared it all up. This article sums it up: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FCM/is_4_3 ...
When he cocked the stick back, you got the hell out of his line of sight!- smacksaw, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1One of my great dreams was seeing Iafrate and Bourque play together in that short half-season, but the bigger dream would have been Iafrate and MacInnis. Could you imagine having those two cannons on the blue line? Guys would have just run away.
- LowROI, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Al MacInnis once paid for new glass in every rink on Cape Breton Island to help support minor hockey. I don't know what that would cost but you can be damn sure it wasn't cheap. Truly a hero and a role model.

- goonbaggins, on 11/13/2007, -0/+9I just can't wait for the "no one cares about Hockey" comments
Seriously, just because it's the easiest to jump on because of low ratings doesn't mean it's not one of the best sports to watch live.- UNL1M1T3D, on 11/13/2007, -0/+7It's one of the best sports to watch anywhere.
- sillywampa, on 11/13/2007, -0/+44 hockey stories to hit the front page in a few days.
- Beanstudd, on 11/14/2007, -20/+2What is this "Hockey" you speak of?
- hexx54, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3Canadians are going to rip you for that

GO HABS GO!

- roguewriter, on 11/13/2007, -0/+4I'm surprised that Messier hasn't stepped into a Coaching role. With his leadership skills, if he can motivate a team as a coach with half the effectiveness he had as a player, he'd be highly successful.
- sillywampa, on 11/13/2007, -0/+4great player and leader doesn't always translate to good coach.
- lansuggs, on 11/13/2007, -0/+4I'll tell you why not with one word: Gretzky
- keenada, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1It isn't Gretz's fault that he's working with duds. You can't get blood from a stone, and you can't get performance out of sub-par players. Name me one player on Phoenix who is a marquee player? A game-maker? Other than CuJo.
- smacksaw, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2It's like the difference between a general and a platoon sergeant - some of them give orders and lead from an office, others lead from the battlefield. Mark led from the trenches. If he was a player-coach, maybe. Then again, what do you think he was when he played?
- thebillgonadz, on 11/14/2007, -0/+7"Betcha can't induct just one!" - Mark Messier
- aflaks, on 11/13/2007, -0/+9incredible hockey, these guys ran the show for 20 years.
dugg for a hockey story on digg, 2nd one ive ever seen - princessToBe, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Nothing gets This Canadian girl more excited then hockey news/games to bad the oliers are 6-10 tied for the worst team in the league this year. I miss the blue mile days :-( but jackasses ruined it for all of us with stunts like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlCGz0V4qEA
- leftykiller, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Dugg for being a chick that likes hockey.
- princessToBe, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2dugg for not digging me down :-)
- leftykiller, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Dugg for being a chick that likes hockey.
- smacksaw, on 11/13/2007, -0/+16Mark Messier - The most underrated player of all-time, and we know he's one of the best. Seems oxymoronic, but it's not. Taking the Oilers one last time post-Gretzky was amazing, but then bringing that hodgepodge of talent in NYC to the top was just incredible.
Scott Stevens - The prototypical defenceman of the modern era, firmly rooted in old-school hockey. You could not ask for more from a defencemen. He captained the team, he WAS the system (a system that was nothing but winning), he protected his stars, he was the star, he scored...amazing.
Ron Francis - The Whale were nothing without him. He singlehandedly kept that team competitive. Then he goes to Pittsburgh and and takes them over the top. Jagr and Mario are obvious, but the true fan knows that Ron's grit and leadership tipped the scales. Then he revives his career in Carolina, returning back to his roots at the same time.
Al MacInnis - While everyone would point out his offense and sheer shooting power, it would be a mistake to only credit him for that. He was arguably the best defenceman on special teams to play the game, he was an incredible leader and guys like Pronger are who they are today because of people like Al. I do not think there was a defencemen in the game who simply made everyone on the ice better just by being out there.
Congrats to all. Hockey's players, history and legacy always bring a tear to my eye. I miss seeing these guys play terribly, especially as an Oilers and Devils fan. - blitzer, on 11/13/2007, -0/+6Kings among men
- sillywampa, on 11/13/2007, -0/+5Stevens and Messier were involved in 1 of the best playoff series I've ever seen. Although my team lost, I still loved that series and was there for Messier's great game 6 hat trick.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Next year could be a good year for Red Wings fans, Igor Larionov, Steve Yzerman, and Brett Hall.
- goonbaggins, on 11/13/2007, -1/+3*Hull
And only the very end of Brett's amazing career was with the Red Wings. - Pake, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2I'd consider Hall more Blues than Red Wings, since that was his home during his prime seasons and is considered a local hero.
- leftykiller, on 11/13/2007, -1/+1Anthony Michael Hall played hockey?
- goonbaggins, on 11/13/2007, -1/+3*Hull
- LowROI, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Greatest HHOF induction year of all time according to NHL.com
- leftykiller, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Definitely up there.
- swhite76, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Don't get me wrong, I love Messier. But dang it was fun to watch McInnis shoot! I used to love watching the skills competition at the all star game, just to see McInnis fire 'em in, during the hardest shot contest. Amazing group going in this year!
- spacey, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2I think it's actually pretty cool that TSN.ca made it to the front of digg (instead of ESPN, FOX Sports etc). It would be for hockey of course... For those of you looking for additional hockey news resources, http://slam.canoe.ca is an under-rated one.
- leftykiller, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1Good thing Mess brought plenty of tissues.
- RyanDFA, on 11/13/2007, -2/+2The Leafs suck!
- dmac23, on 11/14/2007, -0/+0ouch buddy
- snotrokit, on 11/13/2007, -1/+4Quick Poll. How many of you have actually BEEN to the Hockey Hall of Fame, and how many can actually tell me where the hell it is WITHOUT Googling it. (I have been there BTW)
Totally dugg for Hockey story, on Digg, lets dream of a showing on the front page. Hey, we got the Blackhawk games on TV, anything can happen now!!!- dmac23, on 11/14/2007, -0/+0i have been to the hockey hall once when i was a kid for the CNE in toronto............................ and congrats on the hawk games as hockey is always nice to see
- rupprupp29, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1What a great HOF class.
Ron Francis, come back to Pittsburgh! We need a head coach who knows what he's doing! - slimdizzy, on 11/14/2007, -1/+1Digg it up people. Jim Gregory is my uncle, going in as a builder. Congrats to all you got in this year. Mark for sure, you deserve it!
- kawaiiterebi, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1One of the best HOF classes ever. Being a Hurricanes fan, I couldn't be happier for Ron Francis getting in.
- Onivel, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1I had the pleasure of watching Ron in his years with the Pens and followed him on after. The whole group is a class act.
- sensoukami, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2FARCE!!!!! how the ***** did Jim Gregory get in? What a joke.
The man had a nothing career in hockey, but lo and behold, he sits on the entrance committee to the Hall, so he gets himself in. What a ***** joke....
