- chazzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, the cars do stop for aircraft -- you can see the cars stopped on either side of the runway, presumably by a gate, and you can see a two-engine aircraft making an approach about 3 miles out from the east (zoom all the way in):

- MAdaXe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They do this at RAF Manston in Kent, UK as well - http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Gibraltar&t=k&hl=en&ll=51.333454,1.349516&spn=0.036466,0.10849 - although the QL is crap so you can't see the road.
- rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They'd have to clean up debris every time they close the gate. Runways need to be practically spotless before each landing and take off. Although I suppose they don't close the gate that often.. It doesn't look like a busy airport.
Good find.
