Will you marry me?
maps.google.com — Thats what I found while browsing my neighborhood on google maps. Hope she said yes.
- 2701 diggs
- digg it
- JelloZ, on 10/12/2007, -483/+19Am I supposed to see the sunbather on the roof?
- PGvildys, on 10/12/2007, -10/+71There's a "Will U Marry Me" written on one of the roofs there.
- evilgod69, on 10/12/2007, -14/+8zoom in :)
- krewemaynard, on 10/12/2007, -5/+83Most buried comment I've ever seen. Congrats, dude...you win at digg :-D
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -62/+4Lets keep burring it!
- 500freestyle, on 10/12/2007, -19/+3It took me awhile to see it too. -300 digs. Thats funny.
- xswag, on 10/12/2007, -32/+3Are you people reading the above comment or just giving it a negative rating? If so, your just a bunch of fu*king sheep!
- Kazanoe, on 10/12/2007, -16/+5We're just giving it a negitive rating.
had it still been at +1, I would have given it a thumb up, but, as it is, I wanted to see how far we could bury it.
My apologies JelloZ, I mean no offence
Call it the need to conform. - retawd, on 10/12/2007, -35/+4What a ***** dump. Looks like where I grew up in Schenectady. How ghetto is that? I can hear people's hopes and dreams dying in that picture. If you live there, or near there, RUN. Leave everything behind. Hang pictures of Mohammed taking a brutal ass raping from Gary Coleman and let the *****' terrorist blow it up and start over
- retawd, on 10/12/2007, -30/+3Holy crap. Some of the STUPIDEST people gave me negative diggs for calling a place in Jersey a dump. Did I touch a nerve by insulting the place your mom sucks dick for crack? I can see her there on the tennis court. Buns up and kneel in with her AIDS infected ass...
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Hey, retawd, this is my hood man, and it isn't a dump. :-) It's called LIC (long island city) and Astoria, and it's right across the east river from mid-town manhattan.
In other words, it's nothing like Schenectady. - ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2JelloZ got -446 diggs so far, is that a new negative digg record????
- TechknowPagan, on 10/12/2007, -33/+64How do you know it was written for a "she"?
- speel, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15hmm maybe I should have put he/she ah well. :)
- TCDToxic, on 10/12/2007, -8/+126Usually the man asks... ...
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -135/+6I need a way to cancel my comment during the edit period!
Like now. I deleted a comment, but the comment box will still appear. - nailerr, on 10/12/2007, -5/+66Because no girl is willing to do that to their roof. Shame really.
- sipefree, on 10/12/2007, -88/+39No one ever realize that it could have been written by a guy for another guy?
Heterosexuals aren't the only people who propose in... extravigant... ways. - newslang, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13putting he/she would cover that. But honestly, no, that didn't occur to me.
- Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -30/+10In that case I think that proper grammar is to say "I hope they accepted".
- jtw3unc, on 10/12/2007, -19/+7Why would you put "Will she marry me?" Kind of changes the whole question.
- sporkwitch, on 10/12/2007, -9/+39Actually, using "they" to refer to a single person whose gender is unknown is considered poor grammar ^_^ To the best of my knowledge, there is no grammatically correct way to express it within the English language (yet another reason our language sucks; go German!)
- meatbites, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9True, sporkwitch. Speel could have used 'the person' or 'the individual' instead, but that can often read as structurally broken when used with informal speech.
There's an interesting write-up here (under 'Usage note'): http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=they - timginn, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8There isn't a commonly used grammatically correct way to express it in English; but, there's some pronouns which are proposed to solve the problem, such as ze, zer and mer (more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ze_%28pronoun%29 )
- thras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10You don't have much experience with how girls act, do you now?
- Frinkiac7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Hate to burst your ego bubble, Sixcolors, but it seems bigamy is still frowned upon here in the states.
On a lighter note, I believe Oscar Wilde put it best: "Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is the same." - vann, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8News flash: languages change. Using "they" for a gender-neutral third-person pronoun is becoming increasingly common and has been used for centuries. What is or isn't "grammatical" is an argument for people writing grammar books. The rest of us can go on speaking English as it is actually spoken, not as it exists in books of 19th century grammatical formalisms.
- compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"Actually, using "they" to refer to a single person whose gender is unknown is considered poor grammar ^_^ To the best of my knowledge, there is no grammatically correct way to express it within the English language (yet another reason our language sucks; go German!)"
The way that is considered correct and being taught in english classes now is "he or she". So in this case it should have been "Hope he or she said yes."
But on another note, why the ***** are we talking about grammar on digg? - Kazanoe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5@ 12 Chars
You do realize, that you've just insulted more people then hitler did?
the statistics say about 10% of the population is gay, thats 600million people you just insulted.
Maybe you didnt insult them as badly (assuming you don't kill gay people) but well, strength comes in numbers. - Maceyhw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@sporkwich: There's no genderless pronoun in German either so go Turkish!
- retawd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2-deleted by owner- I went off on Mr. ***** PC call everybody Hitler cause "they're mean, the big poo heads" then I realized it wasn't worth my time. Then I realized my time is worthless so I typed this.
- GuitaristTom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@Kazanoe
technically he accomplished his goal then...im not gonna say my opinion tho, because if you state an opinion on digg u immediately get buried unless its a mainstream opinion - timbudtwo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1or you could try to sound intellectual and say "the recipient of said message"
- Lite, on 10/12/2007, -10/+18nice find
- Blizzardman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56Should respond on a roof near there.
- Drood, on 10/12/2007, -9/+127Scroll around the area, see if you can see a big "NO! ***** OFF STALKING ME!" scrawled on a roof:)
- chadell, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Oh dear! just say yes and then break up. Simple really.
- JelloZ, on 10/12/2007, -35/+14Thanks, I see it now.
- sert, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18http://www.prntscrn.net/img.php?img=proposal_2.png
easier to spot shot- Pentarix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Did you just propose to JelloZ?!
- Migdilio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+155Cool way to propose: Write "Will U Marry Me" on a rooftop. Take your girlfriend on a helicopter ride over the city. Point out a few local landmarks and then direct her attention to the specialized roof.
Horrible way to propose: Write "Will U Marry me" on a rooftop. Take your girlfriend over to your computer and have her enter the coordinates on Google Maps.- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+79You forgot the "wait 4 years for google to update their satellite photos"...
- Tobey, on 10/12/2007, -8/+49I don't know man, typing coordinates into Google maps seems pretty cool to me.
- 9gel, on 10/12/2007, -91/+29Diamond ring ... $15,000
Deal with warehouse owner to paint on roof ... $500
Helicopter ride with girlfriend ... $1000
Getting a "yes" for an answer ... priceless - GabeUtsecks, on 10/12/2007, -11/+13Hopefully he took her up in a hot air balloon or something. A Google Maps proposal is pretty lame.
- Alphabet, on 10/12/2007, -5/+78man, i'm starting to hate those stupid mastercard jokes. Seriously, it's getting old, make your own jokes.
- chazzj, on 10/12/2007, -22/+4too funny!!!
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+209gel, if you will pay that much for a ring, I want you to marry me!
- kivatech, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15sweet! 9gel, I'll also marry you with that $15k ring. My girlfriend will be a little pissed though
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11prokore wrote: "You forgot the "wait 4 years for google to update their satellite photos"
Actually... it's pretty simple, now... everyone can use that same message. Unfortunately, the location is likely to come across fairly "random", but not at the end of a real world/Internet scavenger hunt! Woo hoo! Unless you're walking up behind her with a ring however, it would still be lame.
I like how my friend proposed. He had the airplane pilot say it over the intercom during their flight across the country. She burst into tears. I can't remember what he had him say, but she was paying attention and when she realized what he'd said, she looked over and he was smiling next to her with a ring. - rjz26, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess you could do the same thing Maxim did: create a graphic overlay with different aerial photos than are in the official Google Earth database, then send a .kml file with links to use your photos.
- mightymouse, on 10/12/2007, -43/+13No!!
- Pentarix, on 10/12/2007, -15/+6I think you broke his heart.
- AdamCo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+66If you are going to go through all that effort, at least put a question mark.
- Steaminx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7haha. The point still comes across.
- plingboot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Or an exclamation mark
Will is a lucky guy. - Kazanoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1but then you'd need a comma
- sp4rky, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5haha cool find
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16YES, spell, I'll marry you!
I thought you'd never ask!
I've wanted to say this for so long, but now is the time. I love you.- dstart, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3I'll marry you
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Is your comment for real?
You guys live in the same area so it seems plausable. And speel seems to live in queens which is where the rooftop is...
Grats if so. - speel, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Lol
- scootdown, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Looks more like "Willy Marry Me"
- HarryCallahan, on 10/12/2007, -18/+8Well it is San Francisco.
- Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8No, it's New York.
- kivatech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3's cool Callahan, I'm geometrically lyxdexic too
- Intrepion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I see "wiuu marry me"
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29It should have been written in a crop circle.
- manchld, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7has anyone found a crop circle on google maps? I've been wasting so much time looking...
- Battlecry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Crop Circle:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=&t=k&ll=53.53184,-1.356769&spn=0.00206,0.005461 - JUANMATEIXIDO, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0lol :D
- Steaminx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7That's pretty neat. I guess anyone can send this link and ask their "other" if they're too nervous. Cool.
- johnie1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5HAHA, that's one for the grandkids
- bigpeeler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Santa Claus is already married.
- ster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22I've always wanted to propose to Google.
- Seumas, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Sounds like his laser/optical mouse has more balls than he.
- jessed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I still like what was seen in Yorkshire:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=&t=k&ll=53.538699,-1.346649&spn=0.0016,0.003278- shwaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you scroll a bit southwest you can see the crop circle pointed out by Battlecry: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=&t=k&ll=53.53184,-1.356769&spn=0.00206,0.005461
Done by the same person, most likely
- shwaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you scroll a bit southwest you can see the crop circle pointed out by Battlecry: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=&t=k&ll=53.53184,-1.356769&spn=0.00206,0.005461
- riflemann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9There's another "marry me" here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&t=k&ll=40.756248,-74.006076&spn=0.000904,0.001534
It's more visible in google earth, and says "Melissa will you marry me?"- kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It says "Uxmal" under it too. Unusual name if it's the person who is asking.
- rightbrain12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think that's the name of the font they used to write this - "UXMal", short for "Ultra, Extra Small".
- christoffer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6When I first saw the title I thought that someone in the Digg staff had done something similar to http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/02/14/143254 .
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL -- SAME!
- justinus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11It's Lois Lane's proposal to Clark Kent
- pogo, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6My street is actually called lois lane. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=&t=k&ll=53.538699,-1.346649&spn=0.0016,0.003278
- pogo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9sorry wrong link:
http://maps.google.com/?t=h&ll=37.894202,-122.128379&spn=0.004826,0.00869
- PeeOnYou, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4She said no.
- jczer68, on 10/12/2007, -29/+3beh, some gibberish written on a roof. usual digg lameness.
- SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I hope she goes to the roof and leaves her answer so we all know how it ends. This is like a computer science soap opera.
- Niek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Here is the same house in high resolution "bird's eye" view at Virtual Earth:
http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=40.744542~-73.954621&style=o&lvl=2&scene=1470239
Unfortunately no text on the roof in this view.- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Which pretty much defeats the point don't ya think? Although the whole bird's eye thing's still cool i guess...
- Pentarix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Guess it ended badly :-/
- speel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea that birds eye is a little older because by that high rise building a little north of it they demolished that area and now theres a condo in the making and in the google one the place is fully demolished
- br8k, on 10/12/2007, -28/+3Okay this guy has no plans nor have the guts to ask this person to marry him, ever. Think about it, writing "Will You Marry Me" on his own rooftop assuming that they've been seeing each other for a long while, she will never ever google his address since she'd already know how to get to his house! Like Mr. Spock once said "This Ain't ***** Locigal!" LOLz
- Stri, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I think it's a little perverted trying to marry aliens....
- Norse77, on 10/12/2007, -24/+1old and seen it, most likely fake
- NJOlson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It would not be a google earth proposal because these pictures where taken years before google earth was launched. If it is real it was a nice find.
- RpgActioN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15"old and seen it, most likely fake"
Fake? Oh yes, the l337haxx0rz haxx3d into g00gle and replace the image of that particular rooftop....- jeffreym, on 10/12/2007, -22/+1f070zh0p, you g3rk!
http://celestial-reasoning.blogspot.com/
- jeffreym, on 10/12/2007, -22/+1f070zh0p, you g3rk!
- hxc2k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2A TV advert did this same kind of thing, was advertizing a car, if I remember right.
- SeanFL, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1anyone know of other cool things done for viewing from above? There's a mega church near Dallas Tx that put a huge logo on top of the building.
- justabum, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Target stores have a huge red target on their rooptops. Here is the one in my neighborhood, but they all have it.
http://maps.google.com/?ll=40.744506,-73.954516&spn=0.001829,0.003659&t=h - mfelkins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1They don't all have it. My local Target doesn't
- justabum, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Target stores have a huge red target on their rooptops. Here is the one in my neighborhood, but they all have it.
- Chaoss, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Seriously, isn't this just passive aggressive behaviour? What a chicken-s**t.
- Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Some women fall to pieces when men propose in ridiculously exaggerated ways. Chances are he knew this.
- nendoke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah , I will , :X
- kwilliam71, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Is digg going become Keyhole Community?
- UndeadZmobie, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Wow.... that's about 10 minutes away from where I live.
Nevermind, it's in Manhattan. - kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If she answers, let's mod it down for fun so it's out of his viewing threshold.
Just kidding. Hope she said yes. - zouhair, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1LOL people found a way to troll over some stupid stuff :))
- xNaquada, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Are you new to the internet? People always find a way to troll over stuff... stupid or not.
- carbontwelve, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1aww
- wiredclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Someone needs to find out if he/she said yes. Ill guess we'll know if the message changes to something like "Screw you bitch" in a few days :)
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unfortunately, the pictures aren't updated for a few years.
- jczer68, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4So we're digging marriage proposals now? I wonder if OMG Ponies had anything to do with this.
- Oetzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice :)... everyone should think of proposals like that. Would make the world a more fun place.
- jschrab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3On a slightly different subject, when did Google add the "50,000 foot view" in the corner? Neat!
- JelloZ, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2Minus 90 diggs. That is pretty decent.
Did you guys ever think that maybe, just maybe, Google did not put up the correct part of the map? There was no message on top of any building. What it showed me was a point South and East of the point that I see now. Yes I can see the message now.
Maybe you should think before you react.- DanAtkinson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6No, I think you're just a little slow on the uptake and haven't figured out how to use the zoom feature properly.
You can't blame us because you typed out a dumb response before actually having a decent look.
Maybe *you* should think before you react. - JelloZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Dan, I think maybe you better get back on the Meds.
I see in your profile you have no friends. I think I know why...
- DanAtkinson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6No, I think you're just a little slow on the uptake and haven't figured out how to use the zoom feature properly.
- thegreatone99, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Cant it be "hoped he said yes?"
After all, it is San Francisco...- rhawk301, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Huh? Its the warehouse district in Queens, NY. Pretty rough place.
- Zzone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome, thats like 5 blocks away from me.
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Weird text on roofs is something you find a lot of in Google Earth. This one is a few blocks from my place, I had no idea the mall had it on the roof: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=38103&ll=35.14002,-90.05476&spn=0.001448,0.002631&t=h
