- amitbhawani, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Does this work in all versions of linux?
- YodaJones, on 09/05/2008, -2/+17What an *****. Why don't you tell the people in the blurb that your tip requires Wine as a prerequisite? People might assume that you are providing a native Linux installation which you are not.
- nobledirectory, on 09/05/2008, -4/+1Don't you think its good enough for those who are eager to install Chrome in Linux. Whatever they have to do for that.
- megamod, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Thanks for letting me know ahead of time before I wanted my precious time opening that link. Almost feel like burying the article for misleading/inaccurate...
- RoboDonut, on 09/05/2008, -1/+6Google Chrome is very close to being my ideal browser.
The interface is minimalistic, dynamic, and unobtrusive. Screenspace is maximized and unnecessary clutter is minimized. In place of a status bar, they have tiny status boxes that appear off to the side and dissappear when they're no longer necessary. The menu is on the same line as the URL bar and the tabs are in the window decorations.
Everything runs in a separate process to ensure that sites which abuse Javascript (such as digg) don't hang the entire browser on older hardware. The isolation is also nice for security purposes.
In addition, Webkit beats Gecko in almost every aspect.
It's damn near perfect.
However, there are currently two reasons I won't be using it as my primary browser:
1. No Greasemonkey/Adblock - While this isn't really a fault of the browser itself, I do rely heavily on these two extensions.
2. Non-standard widget toolkit - This alone isn't enough to stop me from using Chrome, but I really do prefer something that is written for GTK+ or similar. It's a complete pain in the ass to keep a consistant work environment when everything uses their own widget tookit and skin/theme format. I'm really not much of a fan of rounded corners, color gradients, and bright colors.
Also, buried for inaccuracy. We all know about Wine.- NGliam, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1I am using it as my default browser, I miss adblock and greasemonkey but I can live without them for now. I eagerly await the linux release (I dualboot vista/ubuntu and can't wait to try it out on ubuntu without bothering with wine which is just a workaround anyway) and hopefully they'll fix the very few bugs.. I noticed some bugs when using Facebook on chrome, quite noticeable too. For example when I'm viewing an album, sometimes it won't load the next page of thumbnails or whatever.. as well as sometimes not showing the instant messenger online persons list thing..
The best thing about chrome is its reliability. It hasn't crashed on me yet, whereas firefox crashes on me every now and then, and IE isn't even worth talking about on that front.

- evilgourmet, on 09/05/2008, -1/+4***** WINE, why do I have to use a winders program on Linux?
I can wait until they have the port ready, or it ISN'T WORTH USING.- NGliam, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1Well thats a tad harsh. They are working on the Linux version, stick your panties back on and be patient.
- evilgourmet, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1haha, ok

- GutterMoo, on 09/05/2008, -2/+6Not worth doing. Wine =/= Linux support. When will people get this through their heads? I love Linux, been using it for a few years now as my dedicated desktop, but I hate reading Digg posts about "games on linux" and then open up to see WINE. It is stupid, Wine is a last resort for people who can't break away from the mold.
- Tvrtko999, on 09/05/2008, -1/+3I dugg this ***** hoping they released real Linux package. It was probably possible to install Chrome using WINE the first day it got released. Guess I act stupidly believing the title and not the digg count.
The title is definitely misleading. Buried. - Spr0k3t, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2In other news: "Windows in Linux now possible." If it requires WINE to run, I'm sure the alternatives will work for me quite well.
- YodaJones, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3Anybody who wants to run Windows ***** on Linux can get Virtualbox and create a VM. Why ***** around with Wine when you can get the full experience.
