New 'linux cafe' opens in Toronto.
linuxcaffe.ca — New 'linux cafe' opens in Toronto. Groups of open source enthusiasts meet there regularly; GTA-lug, Ruby, Python, Asterisk and the Toronto 2600. Linux newbies hang around and gurus visit. There's a row of penguin buttons and t-shirts and pocket protectors are on the way. Open source, open kitchen, open atmosphere.

- fac3less, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I plan on heading down there sometime this week and picking up a copy of ubuntu.. might be a great way to meet some more fellow nerds in town.
it's a very cool place. :) - fac3less, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh, and I'm only getting the ubuntu because I'm too lazy to purchase cd's or mount virtually. ;)
- Wulfy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol what next? and ubuntu? bah i knoppix or mandriva is for me :)
- fac3less, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ah, I'm grabbing a copy of Ubuntu for the wifey. :)
I actually don't run *nix at home -- haven't seen any need to just yet.
Although now that I have no reason to run windows (last remaining 'non*nix app gone!) I should probably reconsider ;) - syuusuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good to know, i should drop by sometime
- ravuya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks pretty nice.
- fac3less, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still think they need a new paintjob!
Someone in #toronto on efnet was saying they were doing some renovations last night and launching a new site shortly. Not sure when I want to check the place out a bit more thoroughly but definitely before Wednesday. - davamundo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1linuxcaffe has actually been open for more than 8 months. They've got, like, 100 different .iso images of linux/ BSD and other open source stuff. The coffee's really good too ! I should know, I make it ! ;-)

GO TORONTO!! - Korvaras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nifty. Although I don't use Linux (Macman Here), that's pretty snazzy.
- bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Being to Toronto and I don't know what people like about it.
- Illuminatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hippies make the best coffee!
Seriously, the place looks cool and I wish I had something like it near me. - GeekyGirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool. Someone should open one of these in Portland, OR!
- bchang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To far from me im in the west i have to go all the way downtown
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They should have pictures from inside the place. I'd like to see how the place is set up.
And thinking about it...that's friggin cheaper than setting up a Windows cafe... - fac3less, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2firehydra,
haha. ;)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/linuxcaffe/interesting/ -- for pictures from the inside. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pocket Protectors?
Oh Nooooo! And just when I was thinking of trying out Linux.
Mabe I'll wait a little longer.
I do like penguins, though! Is that Linux trademark/ icon? - theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Merely proving a point that Canadia is full of pot smoking commie pinkos.
- slack31337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and you say this like there is something wrong with that ????

I'm about the most capitalist person on earth ;) -- I do however love community efforts like Linux though. That doesn't mean they can't generate bucketloads of money though. - aarplane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AWESOME.....
From http://linuxcaffe.com/iCafe/desktop:
"Of course, a unix power-user will tell you that desktops are for sissies, and the command-line is all you need. Don't listen to them; they have had way to much Jolt cola, and they haven't been outside in weeks." - greatclare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if you compile your own sandwiches there.
- Jonsey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.flickr.com/photos/dorywithserifs/71354559/in/set-1765816/ hmm, looking at that picture... aparantly from the linuxcaffe.. and I'm wondering.. why is that computer running WIndows? lol
- Jessehk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I live 5 minutes away :p
- Petronski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd visit, I think it looks like a cool place. In fact, if I lived near there, I doubt my fiance and I would ever leave--coffee sounds good.
But would they welcome a Republican running WinXP skinned as OSX?
LOL - Petronski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some of the more complicated sandwiches probably have linux running right on them. It runs on EVERYTHING.
- zoglesby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is one in Japan called the same thing, I don't know if there is a connection.
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0some people don't seem to know Ubuntu will mail you a cd for free anywhere in the world.
- th3dougler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hey, y'know whats really funny - a bunch of almost identical open-source-sandwich jokes
oh wait... they arent

- pinkninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0but the idea sounds good! we should open one in here also, in japan
- kiteflyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0try the food:
The sandwiches and wraps are great, real tasty.
And great coffee. - dmh2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0obviously they have been open a while because there aren't any coffee shops with open doors and people in t-shirts in Toronto just now :()
- patrickmcguire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Being to Toronto and I don't know what people like about it."
