http://digg.com/linux_unix/Wine_Doors_Make_Wine_us ...- lippyjka, on 09/29/2008, -0/+10WINE will not work on ARM architecture! I repeat; WINE will not work on an ARM architecture!
Only x86 and 64bit ubuntu works with WINE
- lippyjka, on 09/29/2008, -0/+10WINE will not work on ARM architecture! I repeat; WINE will not work on an ARM architecture!
- mazza558, on 09/29/2008, -0/+35Fantastic work. Ubuntu Mobile or even Netbook Remix would be incredible to see on the Pandora.
For those of you with no idea what this device is, it's an open source UMPC/Games console, billed as "the most powerful handheld in the world. It's about the size of a DS but will do so much more. Check out the website here: http://openpandora.org/
Preorders start tomorrow!- RG13, on 09/29/2008, -0/+7Thank you for that. I was wondering how you could run Ubuntu on an online radio...
PS That thing looks so kickass- tech42er, on 09/29/2008, -0/+2Yup, I thought they meant there was some new Pandora desktop player for Ubuntu.
- RG13, on 09/29/2008, -0/+7Thank you for that. I was wondering how you could run Ubuntu on an online radio...

- mazza558, on 09/29/2008, -1/+9I, for one, welcome our preorder-based overlords...
- TaG51, on 09/29/2008, -1/+7A DS sized UMPC running Ubuntu, with gaming controls and a sweet touchscreen. Nice. Plenty of info at http://www.pandorawiki.org/FAQ and forums at http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?showforum=62.
Yes, I'll be pre-ordering tomorrow. - magicman5421, on 09/29/2008, -1/+6if i don't get a preorder...
imma kill someone - Zalyster, on 09/29/2008, -2/+7No we must bury this! Or I won't get one...:(
Except, I can't bury Pandora. So dugg anyway. - grobi, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4Everything a portable multimedia player should deliver! I definitely will get one by preorder!
- BooneFaustus, on 09/29/2008, -0/+7Crap, now it's going to be even harder to get a preorder with this on the front page. At least the Pandora is going to do well. It's awesome that they have drivers to sync a ps3 controller to the Pandora + av out.
- spiffyfitz, on 09/29/2008, -1/+8If you don't preorder one of these, then the terrorists have already won.
- linespin, on 09/29/2008, -9/+4hmm here, www.pandora.com runs on Ubuntu.... in soviet Russia, Ubuntu runs on Pandora... scnr

A short list of the main stats on this thing, more info and full specs at http://pandorawiki.org/Pandora and http://pandorawiki.org/FAQ- gplpark92, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3quite a resume there. i think i'm gonna order one. if it is capable of running Ubuntu, and firefox, AIM, a decent media player, i think this'll be my new pocketPC basically.
dual SDHC.
$50'll buy you a 16GB. two of those is a 32GB.
32GB's prices are dropping fast too.
this thing is perfect.
- gplpark92, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3quite a resume there. i think i'm gonna order one. if it is capable of running Ubuntu, and firefox, AIM, a decent media player, i think this'll be my new pocketPC basically.
- WoollyMittens, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4WTF is with the "me too me too" stuff? Astroturfing?
It's a very nice looking device though. What sets it apart from the deluge of netbooks and UMPCs?- infernal6, on 09/29/2008, -1/+7The control pad and ability to more easily play games I would assume.
- Spray190, on 09/29/2008, -1/+4its size (its about half the size of the eee) and the fact that it has dedicated gaming controls. I mean its a umpc that actually fits in your pocket and has a 10 hour battery life.
i am definatly preordering one- Vorporeal, on 09/29/2008, -0/+3On top of that, it can stay in standby mode almost indefinitely. The power management on the ARM chip is incredible. At full load, it has about 8 hours of battery life. Many emulators and whatnot can probably run with the chip underclocked, extending the battery life significantly.
- candre23, on 09/29/2008, -0/+5That, and it's a hell of a lot smaller than a UMPC or netbook. Size comparison: http://www.sizeasy.com/page/size_comparison/16085- ...
- quado, on 09/29/2008, -1/+3NOOOOOOO
If this gets up to high then I won't be able to preorder! - transform100, on 09/29/2008, -10/+1get counter strike and I'm sold!
- CCmachined, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1ARM architecture CPU.
x86 (PC) sucks out loud especially for power. thats why much larger 13", 15" etc laptops only last 3-5 hours at most.
open source stuff can (mostly) be ported easily. Counter Strike only runs on x86(PC) and is closed source. Ha.
even with ubuntu, wine can't work, as x86 is required. wine emulates windows, NOT THE ACTUAL CPU.
- CCmachined, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1ARM architecture CPU.
- Kloplop321, on 09/29/2008, -2/+3Counterstrike is closed source. Think about things here, this is not windows.
I am pre-ordering though :) - AparoidX, on 09/29/2008, -0/+2Aww man, I wish I wasn't saving for a desktop. This thing is going to be so awesome. :(
- rollerboy, on 09/29/2008, -3/+4They really need to alter that name, call it PandoraBox or something. I would not have read this great story unless it said Ubuntu. I really don't care about Pandora[music] but I'm really interested in Pandora[console].
- Kloplop321, on 09/29/2008, -2/+1yeah I honestly wish they would choose a better name but oh well, so many things come up for "pandora" under google :(
- ventralnet, on 09/30/2008, -3/+1well that was a waste of my time
- DreadKnight, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4Why the old version of ubuntu? :P
- Korlithiel, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3I believe it is because that version was ported to ARM so it would run on the Pandora without any real issues.
- Vorporeal, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5Not sure. Notaz (the guy who did it and made the video) said that he's going to try the latest version and see if that offers speed improvements and fixes whatever is causing Firefox to not work.
- RedRingRico, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2It'll be a damn shame if this picks up more interest, I won't be able to develop Medusa in time for 2009 if I can't get mine pre-ordered =P.
- tHeSiD, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3its a big pandora's box!
- zenulator, on 09/30/2008, -4/+0Will it blend?
- firstkipchak, on 09/30/2008, -1/+2yes.
- firstkipchak, on 09/30/2008, -4/+1This is a open pandora. It is made of n64 emulation and firefox 3.
- Spray190, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1ummm as of yet no n64 emulation is confirmed but it does do psx
- arialia, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4i don't know if an Ubuntu is the best for Pandora but it is great to see it works !
good job ^^ - w1ll14m, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Pre-ordering too!
- Kugelblitze, on 09/30/2008, -3/+1Couldn't they have chosen a different name? Pandora means one thing to me, music suggestion playback front end for the Music Genome Project. Using the same name is just annoying.
- jollyrob, on 09/30/2008, -0/+0I'm pretty sure it was used to describe many things before that as well...so your ignorance is just annoying
- gbrendel, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1Preorder now: http://gbax.com
