Yahoo! We're ready to do deal with Microsoft
news.cnet.com — Yahoo counterpunched later Monday morning, issuing a statement (given here in its entirety) expressing its interest in talking to Microsoft about a buyout of the entire company, if only someone would make an actual offer, and the right kind of offer:
- 585 diggs
- digg it
- thespi007, on 07/07/2008, -5/+10FINALLY !!!
- Wakuko, on 07/07/2008, -7/+2Buy it all or STFU M$
You are not welcome cherry picking in my yard.
- Wakuko, on 07/07/2008, -7/+2Buy it all or STFU M$
- Surferess, on 07/07/2008, -8/+39Yahoo should have taken the deal when the dollar was strong. They blew it, IMO.
- Asianwaste, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3I still wished I bought some Yahoo stock. It's gonna soar pretty soon if not already.
- Amiga501, on 07/12/2008, -2/+0***** em', and that ***** Yang. I dumped my shares after Yahoo spread wide eagle for China and turned over evidence for them to throw a reporter in the slammer. Remember Shi Tao? I sure do. ***** Yahoo.
- rancor01, on 07/13/2008, -0/+1...and its a good thing you did! Your 86 LeSabre looks hot with those new spinner rims! The hottest in your trailer park, i dare say.
haha.. venice, fl..
good one. - Amiga501, on 07/17/2008, -3/+0I think you'd be driving a little ***** Honda. I mean, you probably live right next to the factory. The problem with marring a Japanese whore? You always have to worry she's going to ***** some little Azn Boi, so you gotta RICE up to the competition . Ha ha ha, get it?
All you can do is come up with southern jokes, except your ignorant ass has been out of the states so long you forgot that Florida is so far south.... it isn't like “the south”, the bible belt is up north. Ha ha ha. Now pull the chopsticks out of your ass.
- brundlefly76, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Know who's really going to experience some regret?
All the employees who left Yahoo! in protest of the deal not going through originally.
They won't get to exercise this bump. - ilgaz, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Perhaps some sane people at Yahoo knows the magic is running open source, open standards and provide services on top of them.
You won't want to go to Yahoo mail if it requires Silverlight/IE installed.
- Asianwaste, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3I still wished I bought some Yahoo stock. It's gonna soar pretty soon if not already.
- LightSpeed4, on 07/07/2008, -16/+10this is good news for the competition in search engines.
Google's monopoly needs to be taken down, no matter what the google fanboys on digg say.
Anyways, it looks like the shareholders really pressured yahoo into this mode, because a few months ago they were not very responsive to the microsoft bid and didnt really want to sell.- AchaIemoipas, on 07/07/2008, -2/+5Monopoly implies there's only one of them. So it's not a monopoly.
And I don't see how live search and yahoo! being transformed into a single search engine helps. - honesttussey, on 07/07/2008, -10/+5"Google's monopoly needs to be taken down, no matter what the google fanboys on digg say"
oh yea, Microsoft is JUST the company to do that too. Give me a ***** break. Microsoft hasn't done anything innovative in years. They are like a has been company with loads of cash. They bought hotmail, that flopped, they developed MSN, that flopped, Vista flopped, Office 2007 flopped. Yeah! Buying Yahoo will make us a successful company.
If I have to choose between Google monopoly and MS monopoly. I'm sorry I choose Google. At least it frickin works and it's mostly bug free.- andymci, on 07/07/2008, -2/+5Last time I checked, MSN, Hotmail/Live Mail and Office were all doing just fine.
- CCB0x45, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6How is it a monopoly when its completely free to use and there is several alternatives but people choose it by choice.
Monopolies are bad when they undercut other businesses(lower prices till the smaller business fails, and then raise them again after), and when they set a price that is beyond the price of where their cost meets demand(since there is no cost of using google, this is pretty irrelevant).
I dont understand why it would be need to be taken down, people used it based on their preferences and quality.
Lightspeed definitely seems to be the "fanboy" in this situation.- Gunite, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3The sentiment is that there needs to be someone who can really compete against Google to force them to improve their search engine and keep them honest.
How many online business' are completely dependent on Google for survival? That's not a good position to be in. If Google turns off the faucet you die. - CCB0x45, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1@Gunite
True, however if your business is based on Google for survival, then its your businesses fault, obviously if google was taken away there would be a huge difference in how the web operated, but its not like their arent other search solutions. I can see wanting competitors, and of course I welcome innovation, but I think its dumb to just say
SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING blah blah monopoly blah blah.
If you dont like an aspect of how google works search wise, there is lots of alternatives.
I think yahoo and live are garbage, putting two piles of garbage together doesnt seem like its going to make me want to use it.
Businesses are supported on all kinds of businesses, tons of companies are based off of ebay, tons of companies are based off of requiring users access to the internet in general... I don't see how google is any different.

- PureForm, on 07/07/2008, -4/+13I'm worried microsoft will kill their relationship with PHP.
- MehYam, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5I bet Yahoo engineers are, too.
- IanPR, on 07/07/2008, -17/+3Why would Microsoft want to get into that land of ***** we call Yahoo?
- LightSpeed4, on 07/07/2008, -3/+12because its only the most visited website in the world with nearly 20% of search engine market share, the largest email provider, and other cool *****.
but noone asked you, google fanboy
- LightSpeed4, on 07/07/2008, -3/+12because its only the most visited website in the world with nearly 20% of search engine market share, the largest email provider, and other cool *****.
- Incidents, on 07/07/2008, -1/+17And then there were two.
- cabdirazzaq, on 07/07/2008, -8/+13Why do I get the feeling that Yahoo is acting like woman during her "red week"? Can't decide whether she likes you or not...
- Asianwaste, on 07/07/2008, -1/+11This was actually a decision of management vs. stakeholders. The management wanted to maintain control and turned down MS's original deal. The stakeholders all said, "are you ***** crazy?" Get that deal back on the table or we'll vote you off and find someone who will.
- alperea, on 07/07/2008, -4/+21Microhoo!
- DebsW, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1or YahSoft!
- ch28kid, on 07/07/2008, -8/+2Bill Gates leave Microsoft and Yahoo is ready?!? Hmm something is not right.
- jaykeating, on 07/07/2008, -2/+6I think they will both benefit if they close a deal at this point.
- WomensUnderwear, on 07/07/2008, -18/+6***** YAHOO
- Amiga501, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0Your logic is infallible.
- rancor01, on 07/13/2008, -0/+0Im assuming you must have just masturbated before posting this as you arent in rage-a-holic ***** mode.
... or perhaps youre on the family PC in the den, and cant be the ***** toughguy you portray yourself as in front of your mom and "weekend daddy".
Whichever it is, keep it up champ!! - Amiga501, on 07/17/2008, -1/+0No, I was just thinking about the irony of a broke down little kid from the USA who moves Japan, where his penis is STILL smaller than the national average. Ha ha ha, your the trifecta man. Small mind, small jokes, small dick. Wake me when you come up with a punchline.
- rancor01, on 07/13/2008, -0/+0Im assuming you must have just masturbated before posting this as you arent in rage-a-holic ***** mode.

- Kanele, on 07/07/2008, -2/+3Microsoft insiders making big money with this back and forth attitude ^^
buy yhoo stocks, step forward, sell yhoo stocks, step backward, buy yhoo stocks, step forward...... - qbthemc, on 07/07/2008, -2/+22Again? Seriously Yahoo stop.
- bmcnally, on 07/07/2008, -0/+10Counterpunch?
Seemed more like a sissy slap. "Oh, we we're not really that opposed to a deal. In fact, we want to talk about it before we're removed (delay, delay, delay, . . . maybe we can get away with our jobs)" - akh4x0r, on 07/07/2008, -2/+27For...100 BILLION DOLLARS!
*rasies pinky to corner of mouth*
MUHUHAHAHA!- andretii, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3corner lol
- jayuu22, on 07/07/2008, -1/+8now times for MSFT to act like YHOO. We are not ready...Actually both don't have any future plan..
- Ninjao, on 07/07/2008, -1/+5Yahoo!
- scot333, on 07/07/2008, -1/+17Hey Yahoo! Good luck getting 33 dollars a share now!
- jackdaniels06, on 07/07/2008, -10/+3Hey Lightspeed4 Microsoft must be stripped of their OS dominance and it's abusive position. The government should come in and rip this piece of ***** company called Microsoft apart! 95% PC marketshare and people forced to use the garbage shipped with their PC. People use Google as a choice and users are only a click away from using other search engines but people don't have a good buying choice of PCs that offer alternative OS systems. There is only that piece of ***** called Windows. How come we don't have a wide variety of choice when buying a PC? How come A-HOLES who complain about Google don't complain about Microsoft which is a real forced down your throat monopoly? Idiots like Lightspeed4 are just a double standard hypocrits!
You want to know the real reason Bill Gates left Microsoft? Because it is the beginning of the end of Microsoft, that's the real reason.- Kamujin, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6Windows 2000/XP or OS 9? I'm sorry, humanity got this one right. Because those were your choices when Microsoft's market share went to 95%.
OS X (read FreeBSD fork) on Intel is a recent re-invention of Apple and Linux was just not ready for the desktop.
Currently, Microsoft's market share is dropping each month (~90% now) as people now have viable choices for their operating systems. Please stop blaming Microsoft because Apple lacked the bench to build a pre-emptive multi-tasking OS on its own. Please stop blaming Microsoft because Linux was too hard for you to use. - DarkShroud, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4It's not MS's fault every other OS sucked for home use for years. MS actually saved Apple from going bankrupt. If you want MS to loose then develop a better product instead of being a Commie and trying to steal from MS.
- strictnein, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2The real Jack Daniel would punch you in the face for posting such a stupid comment.
- Kamujin, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6Windows 2000/XP or OS 9? I'm sorry, humanity got this one right. Because those were your choices when Microsoft's market share went to 95%.
- backslasher2002, on 07/07/2008, -4/+0Microsoft doesn't care about the shareholders they just want the name/ad-space. They didn't like what they were hearing from the current board so they went around them to Yahoo shareholder Carl Icahn to go for the proxy. This will have a bigger impact that I think we're seeing on the short side as Yahoo has their hands in everything. At least most of their projects still float; anything Microsoft touches seems to die. A new side of how the new Microsoft does business.
- willgonz, on 07/07/2008, -0/+7I hope they don't screw it up like Hotmail, but they probably will.
- aliguana, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5they'll probably migrate all their hotmail/livemail accounts over to Yahoomail. Then they will screw it up.
- LittleDas, on 07/07/2008, -2/+7screw up yahoo?
what's left to screw up?
- JasonCox, on 07/07/2008, -3/+7God damn it Ballmer, WALK AWAY!
- ejm143, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6bad news
- pookeo9, on 07/07/2008, -2/+0Well this is good news to hear and bad news for others, we will see how long this lasts.
- pauliusuza, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Balmer does this only to get on Digg and read comments about himself
- YodaJones, on 07/07/2008, -3/+4All articles about Bill Gates leaving or Microsoft buying Yahoo get buried. This ***** is ***** boring.
Here's a suggestion: Microsoft admits they are old and tired and can't sell any software that they can't buy from real developers so they close their software business and make pizzas. I bet Microsoft's people know pizza. But here's the catch: you have to deliver it on time or it's free. - andretii, on 07/07/2008, -3/+1noice, now i wont have to login with 2 messengers if they are mesh
- Jpardue, on 07/07/2008, -6/+6Does anyone use Yahoo anymore?
- strictnein, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2Just 15-20% of Internet users. Combine that with MSN/Live's share and you're looking at a 30% market share.
- ptFoe, on 07/07/2008, -4/+2So much for ***** choice and competition, all these mergers ruin capitalism.
- strictnein, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Wait, what?
- Petzke, on 07/07/2008, -1/+0Incubus - The Odyssey
I believe there is only one word (Follow) in the whole twenty-some minute song. It's repeated several times through the First Movement. - Br3ach, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I feel a disturbance in the Force...as if 100s of Yahoo! CEOs and managers suddenly cried out, then silence
- waydee, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2They had their chance, Microsoft should just tell them to ***** off at this point. Let Yahoo! die.
- CreativeGuy, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1With all the upper brass quiting Yahoo, the board probably sees the writing on the wall now (finally), and realize that they're up *****-creek without a paddle. All their talent is gone, they're left with a bunch of "business men" at this point.
I would really hate to see MS get their mitts on Yahoo. ANYONE but MS would be great. - AncientToaster, on 07/08/2008, -0/+0MSFT ought to hold out a little bit, really try to scare YHOO ****less.
- diggdiggdug, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2Jesus Does M$ just suck I hate that F'in company. Ballmer is such an ass. If they really want Yahoo they should make a serious offer instead of trying to come in the back door with Ichan. I guess Ballmer just prefers the back door. So he really is gay!
- lemonkey, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1My main worry is Flickr at the moment.
- diggiscrapola, on 07/08/2008, -1/+0Yahoo has been a sinking ship for years, with most of the management fleeing like rats as it continues its slow death. The pathetic stock price reflects their poor leadership. Yang screwed up big time by not taking Msoft's offer and now he's going to the chopping block.
- diggiscrapola, on 07/08/2008, -1/+0Yahoo has been a sinking ship for years, with most of their Sr. management having already fled like rats as it continues its slow and death. The pathetic stock price reflects their poor leadership. Yang screwed up big time by not taking Msoft's offer and now he's going to the chopping block.
- ilgaz, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Deal with MS and lose half of those 250 million active mail users you brag about.
You guys actually use Yahoo? I do , my friends does and some companies get their services. The day MS gets involved, they are abandoning it. Period.
Also did MS/Icahn hire some typing monkey web 2.0 spam company for fake community feedback? There are lots of completely illogical comments around.
