SNES mouse on a PC
raphnet.net — "For those who dont know, Nintendo produced a mouse for the SNES. The mouse was sold with a game called Mario-Paint which was a drawing game (similar to paint brush). I still have a Nintendo mouse but I thought it was sad no to use it anymore so I found a way to use it with my PC."

- emeacham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I remember when I thought I was cool because I could paint Mario and Yoshi the PERFECT colors and make them look exactly like they did on the cartridge... I miss being 8
- KSava, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I remember this game; my friend had it and it was cool.
- Tkkt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I'd really like to play the flyswatter game again. What a frustrating game... but it consumed uncountable hours of my time.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3awesome, I had wondered if you could do that. If only I still had my SNES, I would mod the mouse.
- Bonobo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I still have my mouse for my sega genesis for this sonic mario paint-like game that I still have..I forget the name
- abohling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The game I had was Wacky Worlds which was yet another clone of an SNES game that was not at all fun by comparison. There were a few other games, I believe a Mickey Mouse game and one called Art Attack. I still have Wacky Worlds somewhere but I remember playing it once and never again.

Pictures don't work yet, they might if more people request it and it eventually is able to cache them. - hammydude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Whenever someone submits a story they should submit the coral cache right away in the comments so the site won't go down.

- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Wow, finally a retro console hack that doesn't involve completely destroying it in the process.
- bwjacket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I wish I could use my DuckHunt gun to surf the web.
- daeken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You might be able to pull that off if you use a CRT. If you use an LCD, you're SOL however.
(P.S.: Gotta love TLAs) - Software2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"You might be able to pull that off if you use a CRT. If you use an LCD, you're SOL however."
No, because CRT monitors are different than CRT televisions. It's the same reason why you can't use a light gun in HD. - NealV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Probably not. Though it might be possible to jerry-rig a way to use the SNES SuperScope instead on a CRT screen. It actually determined where it was pointing, rather than relying on simply detecting a white cell being drawn by the game.
- ggko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2NES Power Glove plus SMS 3D glasses. NOW, you're... an.. absolute geek.
- daeken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You might be able to pull that off if you use a CRT. If you use an LCD, you're SOL however.
- digitalgopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2link still works, but very slow now. here's a pic of the mouse but not much detail on the mod:
http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2006/04/snes_mouse_on_a_pc.html - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now just get a Fly Swatter port and I'll be set.
- pavelich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah i remember buying mario paint, to... well paint i guess, and i ended up just creating songs and playing the flyswatter game the whole time.
- sgtpinky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If the page is down for you, this is the mouse in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SNES_Mouse
Ahhh, what a beauty. I had a SNES, but never even knew a mouse existed for it! - gxcdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It'd be neat if gaming companies started to come out with neat computer USB devices like mice, keyboards, and even a USB gun to use with an official NES OS X / XP emulator
- ventro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nice job digitalgopher! Two frontpage stories in a row!

- puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha that game was fun. Fly swatter and the music composer thing.
- WPLXB70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone else remember the music maker where you could modify the Mario theme. I spent hours listening to the Mario theme - its why I'm a Nintendo fanboy.
- cheez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i just want mario paint for the ds
- Software2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seriously. I can not understand why they STILL haven't released one.
The DS SCREAMS for mario paint! - silverSurfer84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well its not exactly Mario Paint but this should be close cuz Bob Ross is coming to the DS, Rev and PC!!

- AUGTRON, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I saw a USB adapter for an N64 controller online a couple years ago...that woulda been sick.
- techhit9908, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2It is sick, they're awsome. I have one for playing all the cool old games like ssmb. That and the ps2 to usb converter. They're serrious.

- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I still have Mario Paint and the Mouse and everything too!! Such an awesome game. I had fun for ages with it.
- diggsilva, on 07/10/2008, -0/+0There are a few SNES -> USB adapters out there. Searching for "Super Nintendo USB" yielded this as the 1st result.
http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3339 - coding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's funny that of all the consoles that have ever been released, SNES is the only one that had a mouse.
- Toupee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Naw. There was a mouse for the Playstation (it was compatible with Dune 2000 - I'm not sure what else). And couldn't you plug USB mice into the Playstation 2 for certain games? Maybe that never came into fruition.
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's a shame that I was 13 when Mario Paint was out. All me and friends used it for was to make six-frame, Mario and Peach animated porn.
- catastrophee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you made me laugh. . .
- acevoncash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i was like SWEET and ran to go get my snes mouse then came back and read the article. and realized i needed a paralell port and needed to run linux... screw that.... i was hoping it would be like a usb adapter so romthing.. that to obad
- tysonhy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I enjoyed Mario Paint too; I remember doing the drawings and creating icons with the icon maker. But saving was a real drag... a long wait for it to save. Good Times!
- tysonhy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's a link to the opening song for anyone who needs to refresh their memory.

plus many other classic controllers converted!- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Woah! Awesome.
I have to get one of them now. :D
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Woah! Awesome.
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh man, I'd do that if only I had the soldering skills, ability to write an OS X driver and the willingness to dismantle my beloved SNES mouse.
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about the other way round? I would LOVE to use a laser mouse with my SNES!
- anamanaman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Screw PC. Figure out how to hook it up to an XBox 360 and play GRAW.
- EnjoyTheFact, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My god, I forgot all about that thing. I loved Mario Paint and that fly game...I spent hours messing with that.
@Anamanaman
I hear ya, I'd love a mouse for Quake 4. - d8cam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that mouse, my friends, is the definition of 1337
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh god, that mouse in the picture is hideously dirty/gross looking e.e
- QuorumCall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I loved the music writing part, but was always bummed out that you couldn't sharps or flats. So much for modulation or secondary dominants.
- Koushiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The mouse worked on more then just Mario Paint so it's said. I believe there was some kind of King Aurthur game or something like that which used it. Kind of like a strategy/RTS, which wasn't probably very popular. Might have been a few small amount of others. It was a nice thing to have, still got mine. Wish I'd gotten one for my Dreamcast.
- JamesBrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The game you're thinking of is King Arthur's World. It was kind of a cross between Lemmings and an RTS... sort of. Anyway, yes it did work with the mouse and it did suck.
- Zelocnin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0HEY guys I just bought an nes and an snes pad USB for the windows pc here go to this site he has the mouse as well
http://www.retrousb.com/index.html - DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah Mario Paint was a great package. You got a real nice, hard plastic mouse pad and a little cleaning wand for the mouse innards.
- 9tendo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I remember being 12 when I got Mario Paint for SNES and drawing an exact replica of a stage in Mortal Kombat I with subzero, scorpion, and shang tsung in the background. Took me a couple of days but I did it all with that mouse :) Recently, I hooked a USB mouse to my modified Xbox and launched Mario Paint through xsnes9x emulator and it works perfectly! My 4-yr old daughter can't get enough of this game
- SpectreBlofeld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even Nintendo had a two button mouse before Apple!
