55 Must See Movies of 2008
slashfilm.com — What movies will you be seeing in 2008? It ’s a pretty simple question, but a very complex answer. Most consumers don’t plan their movie viewing habits that far in advance, but that doesn’t stop us from trying.

- scubasteve11, on 10/16/2007, -2/+13There's a lot of movies I'm really excited to see on that list. Hopefully most of them will live up to the hype.
- Prathik89, on 10/16/2007, -2/+1Hopefully this one Brüno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt
- BestJaxx, on 10/18/2007, -1/+1Hopefully this one what? What about it? Hopefully this one will live up to the hype, is that what you meant? Anyway, I loved Borat, and I can only hope that this movie will compliment it. Sounds like something rather difficult to pull of, but so was Borat.
- Prathik89, on 10/16/2007, -2/+1Hopefully this one Brüno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt
- TdiFFRob6876, on 10/16/2007, -1/+7Speed Racer, Dark Night, and John Rambo...Trailer is really Gorey =)
- ItsMyWii, on 10/16/2007, -0/+5I saw no John Rambo...
- fkr3, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2Speed Racer was the one he meant was gorey ;)
- TdiFFRob6876, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1And Damn them for forgetting John Rambo.
- ItsMyWii, on 10/16/2007, -0/+5I saw no John Rambo...
- timishue, on 10/17/2007, -2/+12Raldy and Kumar return for Numero Dos! :D
- starf, on 10/17/2007, -2/+3I saw a screening for this a few months back. It's got it's moments, but it's not as funny as the first one.
The bush stuff near the end is good, and Neil Patrick Harris's part is better than in the first one.
But the plot is lacking a sense of direction, and Robert Corddry's (from the short lived The Winner) character is annoyingly stupid.
Still, it's worth watching if you're a fan of the first one.
- starf, on 10/17/2007, -2/+3I saw a screening for this a few months back. It's got it's moments, but it's not as funny as the first one.
- fadeout, on 10/16/2007, -2/+8Skimmed down to the bottom and the author thinks that "Chasing Amy" is Kevin Smith's best work. Yeah, about that...
- orfilms, on 10/16/2007, -5/+2Are you saying that Chasing Amy isn't one of his best films? It's certainly his best reviewed
- xXMetalJesusXx, on 10/16/2007, -3/+6Kevin Smith makes movies...not films
- smek2, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1The author apparently also believes that the plot of Chuck Palahniuks novel Survivor "involves a terrorist and an airplane.", when in reality it's about the sole survivor of a sect whose members chosen to commit mass suicide. Later he decides to board a plane, let everybody off the plane and then steer himself in the ocean. That's not exactly what i call a Terrorist.
- metsrule3186, on 10/16/2007, -0/+8Angels and Demons isn't really on my must see list. I was really looking forward to the Da Vinci code but it just wasnt a good film and with Ron Howard directing such a similar screenplay adaptation again it's probably just going to be more of the same. Hopefully he doesn't just bring in his go to guy to do a quick and dirty adaptation of this book like the first one and they actually put a lot more time into the writing.
- preisler, on 10/22/2007, -1/+5Kinda hard making a decent movie out of crappy books.
- imightbewrong, on 10/16/2007, -1/+2thanks marty
- mrmagenta, on 10/22/2007, -3/+15is this 55 must see movies or all 55 "blockbuster movies" that are coming out in 08?
- quamb, on 10/18/2007, -5/+4Exactly! What... this guy just read some hollywood release date list or something?
You know, there actually are other countries out there, with some awesome films coming out next year. Not that US film goers would care.
And half of that list contains the usual stuff that you just know is gonna be trash. - wshs, on 10/16/2007, -1/+3Yeah, and it's 55 movies which are sequels, or remakes of films from the 80's and earlier, or based on a book, or a blatant rip-off of something foreign. Where's the originality anymore?
- quamb, on 10/18/2007, -5/+4Exactly! What... this guy just read some hollywood release date list or something?
- xXMetalJesusXx, on 10/20/2007, -1/+45Holy *****...Way to list off half the movies being released in 08...lol
- mongeau, on 10/22/2007, -7/+10Where the hell is "I am Legend"? I am stoked for this film. Ever since watching Will Smith in Independence Days as a kid, I've been itching to see him kick ass in another action film. I-Robot was OK, but this movie has potential. Add it to your list!
- orfilms, on 10/22/2007, -0/+16I Am Legend comes out in 2007
- xXMetalJesusXx, on 10/22/2007, -0/+11December 14th to be exact.
- 56samba, on 10/16/2007, -0/+3Really? I love that book. Awesome news.
Oh wait, they're bound to ***** it up. - Dylan47, on 10/22/2007, -2/+2i looked it up, looks like it'll be a kewl movie, glad you informed me of it =)
- TdiFFRob6876, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1Buried for uncool use of kewl.
- ravage86, on 10/17/2007, -5/+2055 movies? Is this the complete list of movies to be released in 2008 or something? I don't want to watch 55 movies.
- orfilms, on 10/16/2007, -3/+6Hollywood usually releases 300-500 movies a year. So no, this is not a full list
- starf, on 10/16/2007, -2/+4Most of those are limited releases.
There's usually 2-3 wide releases every week, so that's about 130 per year.
55 is almost half that. - bingobongony, on 10/16/2007, -3/+1Most of hte 300 movies release also probably don't have offical 2008 release dates yet. This is probably over half of the movies listed as being 2008 releases as of right now.
- orfilms, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1IMDb currently lists 181 Hollywood films in development for 2008.
- starf, on 10/16/2007, -2/+4Most of those are limited releases.
- orfilms, on 10/16/2007, -3/+6Hollywood usually releases 300-500 movies a year. So no, this is not a full list
- chukd, on 10/16/2007, -5/+10Please, it looks like they just listed every movie coming out in 2008, not the ones that will be any decent. Most of these movies are *****, looks like another year of avoiding the theater.
- Sornos, on 10/16/2007, -0/+7Can't say I'll be seeing half of those, but some of them look....Promising.
- Asianwaste, on 10/16/2007, -2/+3Dugg for mentioning Wanted. You'll never see a being made out of ***** since the Excremental in Dogma.
- Corrosionx, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2Or Bono.
- mongeau, on 10/22/2007, -15/+1Where the hell is "I am Legend"? This deserves to be on the list. Ever since watching Will Smith in Independence Day as a kid, I've been itching to see him kick ass an action film. I-Robot was OK, but this movie could be awesome. Add it to your list!
- pnutbutr, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1According to the inter-webs... "I am Legend" is planned for release on December 14, 2007. My math skills may be a bit off, but I believe that places the release date a few days prior to the year 2008. Better luck next time with your requests.
- TygerTyger, on 10/16/2007, -1/+10What, no Ben Stein?

*removes tongue from cheek*- xXMetalJesusXx, on 10/16/2007, -0/+4How I did not hear about this film earlier is beyond me...thanks!
- Braingoo, on 10/18/2007, -0/+2 I know original poster was jokeing but this movie just got 1 more view because of it.
- xXMetalJesusXx, on 10/16/2007, -0/+4How I did not hear about this film earlier is beyond me...thanks!
- lockedon, on 10/16/2007, -7/+2Looks to me like a pretty crappy line up.. Only good ones Indiana Jones and James Bond 22. I mean come on... I know we could do better.
- xXMetalJesusXx, on 10/18/2007, -4/+3I hope you're joking....Indiana Jones? Another cheap Hollywood money grab. And don't get me started on James Bond (Although I didn't mind Casino Royal as Much)...needless to say, they should take a few more years off and make a Bond film that won't put me to sleep.
- skyfire1, on 10/20/2007, -2/+45I'm tired of these top 55 lists.
- HallsOfMandos, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1Just be glad it was all on one page!
- ngmcs8203, on 10/16/2007, -2/+1Deja-vu? Another 55 must see movies that aren't released yet? what a coincidence.
- Protoss, on 10/16/2007, -1/+14I am really looking forward to Cloverfield/1-18-08.
- hisXenocide, on 10/16/2007, -2/+3hell boy two???
- Leigh56, on 10/22/2007, -10/+6lmfao Snape kills Dumbledore

- vardhaman2249, on 10/22/2007, -2/+1and harry kills voldy,..a little heads up :P
- iheartjebus, on 10/16/2007, -1/+2I don't think there has ever been a year where 55 movies came out that I cared to see. I don't think 2008 is going to do any better. I'll try and catch 2 or 3 of them though.
- secretmode, on 10/16/2007, -1/+2No time for 55 movies
- stopbrorape, on 10/16/2007, -1/+16Brüno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt.

- somody, on 10/16/2007, -3/+6What about "Backdoor Bitches 5" or "Extra-Large Amateurs"?
- FarcicalFart, on 10/17/2007, -11/+1Come on, no Indiana Jones?
- JesusPickle, on 10/16/2007, -0/+4that was listed...
- mediaspree, on 10/16/2007, -1/+5Where The Wild things Are...will rule.
- muller, on 10/16/2007, -2/+1I have a hard time believing that there are 55 must-see movies released every DECADE, let alone every YEAR.
- yfguitarist, on 10/17/2007, -2/+9Movies absent from the list that have a 2008 attached to them at the moment on imdb (sorry if some are repeats from the list):

Vantage Point
You Don't Mess with the Zohan- ElRayQuieres, on 10/16/2007, -2/+1The Smurfs don't even make the top 50? :(
- orfilms, on 10/16/2007, -2/+1yfguitarist: Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pineapple Express, and Bryan Singer's Valkyrie were on the list. 80% of the movies you listed are not happening in 2008 (for example, Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan... Aronofsky is doing The Fighter instead which is on the list)
- yfguitarist, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1As I already said, I listed movies (that I'm looking forward to) that have a 2008 by their title on imdb. Not sure how accurate your percentage is but whatever.
- whiterussian, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3Dugg for mention of Funny Games. Also even though it comes out on Christmas, There Will Be Blood should at least have an honorable mention.
- joshgoleman, on 10/16/2007, -2/+1No There Will Be Blood??
- orfilms, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2There Will Be Blood is December 2007, not 2008
- tangorooster, on 10/16/2007, -0/+3Looking forward to The Fighter. (Same director as Requiem for A Dream)
Interesting comment about Brad Pitt replacing Matt Damon... and Damon replacing Pitt in The Departed.
Pitt kind of owes Darren Aronofsky one for ditching The Fountain anyways.
Could be a blockbuster with Wahlberg too - unorginalityftw, on 10/16/2007, -0/+3Definitely most interested in Indiana Jones and Iron Man. =D
- Nudar, on 10/17/2007, -6/+4Ed Norton as Banner instead of Eric Bana? ugh...
- bingobongony, on 10/16/2007, -4/+0If you consider there to be 55 movies in one year that are "must see", then end your life, becuase clearly you don't HAVE much of a life to begin with.
- kookykyle, on 10/16/2007, -1/+2sweet dude
- bingobongony, on 10/16/2007, -4/+13It lists a movie with Hayden Christensen....there is NO WAY that that is a must see movie.
- sifeliz, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2Jumper! I loved that book when I was a kid. Hopefully they do it justice.
- mbourgon, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2Crap, that's Hayden? And the trailer looked so good, too....
- sifeliz, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2Jumper! I loved that book when I was a kid. Hopefully they do it justice.
- GrabAss, on 10/16/2007, -2/+1Are these all pornos?
- MrFisty, on 10/16/2007, -1/+3If you took away the remakes or "based on the TV show" movies, there's really not a whole lot left. Is it really that hard to come up with a new idea?
- ilferetl, on 10/16/2007, -0/+4The article was interesting .. but seriously ..
"I’m always game for any time travel movie, although this sounds a bit like the new television show Journeyman."
i read The Time Traveler's wife over two years ago, meaning it was published and popular well before Journeyman was even a thought. Unfortunately, I stopped reading any further at this point- Nudar, on 10/16/2007, -1/+3He didnt say one was the inspiration for the other only that they sound similar. Perhaps he's not a fan of Journeyman and hence doesnt feel like watching the time traveler's wife.
- whatthefu, on 10/16/2007, -2/+5Speed Racer is going to be so ***** stupid.
- zioxide, on 10/17/2007, -1/+5I can't wait for Bond 22. Casino Royale was awesome. Craig is the best Bond since Connery.
- wrestlingnrj, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2As much as I love Connery and Roger Moore, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever.
- subcomandante, on 10/17/2007, -2/+6ENDER'S GAME
- Computer_Kid, on 10/16/2007, -1/+4Sigh, another summer of remakes
- bluepass, on 10/16/2007, -1/+3I wonder if there's going to be a Saw V. So far they've been releasing Saw every year, just in time for Halloween, and they've been kept interesting. It's definitely a must see if there's going to be a Saw V next year.
James Bond 22 is also a must see. Casino Royale was the closest to the books any James Bond movie's ever been. 22 should be an interesting sequel. -
