5 Awesome Movies Ruined By Last-Minute Changes
cracked.com — "We'll just fix that in post!" has always been the rallying cry for filmmakers in the middle of a troubled production. Unfortunately, sometimes things have a nasty habit of actually getting broken in post-production, usually thanks to studio interference. Victims include ...

- Dokument, on 05/23/2008, -3/+15seriously. I am Legend is completely ruined for me now. I knew something was up with the way the movie flowed though, the part where he stays in the sun is kinda obvious
- Alias12, on 05/23/2008, -0/+9Dont just blame it on hollywood, blame it on the entire dumbing down of entertainment and the willingness to accept people dont need to think.
Now lets go blow some more ***** up.- willywong, on 05/23/2008, -0/+3No, now watch this drive.

- NinjaPirateDude, on 05/23/2008, -2/+96the thing about Die Hard is so true......
- warplayer, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I've never seen the unrated version so I'm really interested about that. Is it worth a watch if you've already seen the theatrical version?
- crsd36, on 05/24/2008, -0/+7Yes. I saw it in theaters and was very unhappy. When the DVD came out I decided to give it another go with the unrated version and was thoroughly surprised. There were several scenes where I was thinking WTF? Was that even in the theatrical version?
- bjs3171, on 05/24/2008, -0/+5i saw it in theaters and i was happy. sure it had no blood or curses, but i knew it would be on the dvd. obviously. and anyway, the action was good, and clearly stunt oriented, with minimal CG, and i liked the story, even if it requires some suspension of disbelief.
anyway, i got the dvd when it came out, and it's definitely better. no horrible kevin smith edits, and plenty of cursing.
- warplayer, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I've never seen the unrated version so I'm really interested about that. Is it worth a watch if you've already seen the theatrical version?

- tradwolley, on 05/23/2008, -2/+34The ironic part is I found this list interesting enough I might have actually clicked to a second page for once. Good job cracked.
- DforSpiD, on 05/24/2008, -0/+12I found the same thing, by the time I got to the bottom of the page I was thinking that this is cracked, there will definitely be another page (completely ignoring the fact that the article said 5.)
Then there was no second page and I was actually disappointed. - thirteenthcor, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1ABP FTW! It's nice knowing why there are Second pages.

- stackered, on 05/23/2008, -14/+1actually most of those were better because of the changes, especially I Am Legend... its all opinion

- jakash, on 05/23/2008, -18/+3I know its not a movie, (it will be eventually) but the end of Harry Potter was a huge anti-climax aswell.
- Leysa, on 05/23/2008, -2/+3I quite enjoyed the Harry Potter books, as well as the ending, you do have to remember that they are kids' books (or at least teens' books). I thought the last book was well written and tied up the whole series.
- DeviateSeptum, on 05/23/2008, -1/+7I'm sick of people saying that "they are kids' books" as if that cuts them slack. A lot of material these days that most adults would have trouble reading was actually meant for children in the past. Our notion of what's children's material has gone way down over time.
- oldhick, on 05/23/2008, -1/+3I think that is one of the most brilliant comments ever.
- WoollyMittens, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2No kidding. Try reading "Alice in Wonderland" or "Peter Pan". Scenes would have to be cut to get even an M rating. :)
- knight666, on 05/23/2008, -1/+15Harry should have ***** died.
- Cyberbladewolf, on 05/23/2008, -0/+5I thought it was pretty obvious that that was Rowling's original intention. However, if she had done that, she would have had a million rapid Harry Potter fans at her door with pitchforks and torches.
- crazycarlmar, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Most definitely. Ruining that for everyone would've been awesome (way better than Snape killed Dumbledore).
- DeviateSeptum, on 05/23/2008, -1/+7I'm sick of people saying that "they are kids' books" as if that cuts them slack. - chocobomog, on 05/23/2008, -3/+23The movie won best picture, is one of the highest grossing movies of all time, and is tied for most Oscars won for a single movie. I would hardly call it "ruined" by any changes to the ending.
- Sawta, on 05/23/2008, -5/+4You're right, I'd call that "tainting" the movie. The implications are even worse.
Just because a movie makes a lot of money or wins a lot of awards, doesn't make it a good movie.- SketchaMPM, on 05/23/2008, -2/+5True, but the fact still remains: Return of the King was a really good movie.
- Rikkochet, on 05/23/2008, -1/+5No, but it's a better indicator than someone on the internet saying it isn't.
- bjs3171, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1LOTR ended a few too many times, but what happens in the ending is appropriate to the story, so i wasn't too bothered by it. A.I., on the other hand, i'd say was pretty damaged from the absurdly long, and way too spelled out. that movie should have had a much more open ending.
- Sawta, on 05/23/2008, -5/+4You're right, I'd call that "tainting" the movie. The implications are even worse.
- halleyscomet, on 05/23/2008, -1/+5Yeah, I'm still pissed they skipped the "Scouring of the Shire" chapter.

- drmangrum, on 05/23/2008, -2/+21That movie was horrible. My eyes bled for days after i watched that stinking pile of crap.
- markperia, on 05/23/2008, -0/+17Its not just the ending that was disappointing in that movie. They messed with the pacing of the book and turned some scenes around and even replaced one of the character's names. I can understand truncating it to fit the storyline in 2 hrs but totally disregarding its pacing is unacceptable.
- Tyrghast, on 05/23/2008, -1/+12but but but but but but but but...

- Velnich, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2I started dialing child services when the bear asked if she wanted to ride him.
- aseriesoftubes, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2The changes weren't last minute. The studio decided right from the outset that the anti-religious theme of the book wouldn't work in the US, so they made it into a movie about, um, bears, I guess?
- IKORKYI, on 05/23/2008, -2/+60no see the movie has to be somewhat good to be ruined
- AJay17, on 05/23/2008, -21/+10Thank god I was in the middle of the "I Am Legend" Book and that post ruined the ending for me.
- namelessXsilent, on 05/23/2008, -0/+19i never saw or read it, so i skipped that one to not ruin it, it wasnt hard
- hollismb, on 05/23/2008, -0/+12Yup, I did the same thing. 'Hey, I haven't seen that movie, but plan on it... maybe I shouldn't read about how they ruined the ending?'
- BoneheadFarker, on 05/23/2008, -1/+15The movie itself ruined the ending for me. It was great, right up until the weird religious theme that seemed to be tacked onto the end. Turns out it really was tacked on...
- Spudster, on 05/23/2008, -3/+4To be honest I thought the alternate ending sucked too (in the book he is executed by the beasts unlike the movie). The best ending, horror movie wise, would have been for them to reach the complex.. then get attacked and die. Horror movies are not supposed to end happily, it's an unwritten rule. Look at Resident Evil and The Mist, two semi decent horror movies that became so much better because of a badass ending.
- Bullsnot, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Damit Spudster, I havent watched The Mist yet.
- BoneheadFarker, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Don't worry...you'll still like it. That was really the only part of the movie I liked...
- Spudster, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2Heh sorry... I'm going to warn you though, it is probably one of the most depressing endings ever committed to film.
- orangefly, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2hell yeah it is....
- stk198323, on 05/23/2008, -1/+2Depressing? We got out of the cinema laughing our ass out! (Not laughing from the ending but from seeing how other people were all like: wtf is this really the end?) That's the best ending I saw in any movie I saw.
Far from being just a pile of ***** to please people, that ending actually TEACH you something and makes you see life in a different perspective! If it didn't make you think then you just doesn't deserve that people use there brain to make such endings!
Life is not always cute and fun!! Everything doesn't end well!
- Bullsnot, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Damit Spudster, I havent watched The Mist yet.
- SocialPoison, on 05/23/2008, -0/+14Honestly, if you're reading a book... and read an article that discusses the general plot derived from that book, how can you expect there not to be spoilers? If it was that important to you, how could you not go "Oh, I Am Legend is on this list, I'll just have to skip it?"
That's like reading a plot synopsis on IMDB and being mad that they gave away the gist of the plot. - invisiblehat, on 05/23/2008, -1/+8That'll teach you to read books!
- anillop, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Yeah when you saw them talking about the movie you should have stopped reading. That would have been the smart thing to do.
- namelessXsilent, on 05/23/2008, -0/+19i never saw or read it, so i skipped that one to not ruin it, it wasnt hard
- akohut, on 05/23/2008, -13/+1Regardless of the ending, "I Am Legend" was not in any sense "awesome." It was just a terrible movie with an even worse ending.
- IKORKYI, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4i agree the ending sucked. he just gives her the * and BAM she's in maine or wherever that utopia was. i could have gone for an escape and documented travel scene
otherwise the movie was just good
- IKORKYI, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4i agree the ending sucked. he just gives her the * and BAM she's in maine or wherever that utopia was. i could have gone for an escape and documented travel scene
- spydergt488, on 05/23/2008, -3/+208When you think about how awesome I am Legend could have been............
- Sommerlost, on 05/23/2008, -1/+39No joke, I saw it a few months ago. Thought most of the film was cool but didn't care for the ending... it all make sense now. I'd like to see that alternate ending...
- Dustyb, on 05/23/2008, -0/+11The alternate ending is on that page. There is a little faster loading version on this page.
http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/03/05/must-watch- ... - jgtg32a, on 05/23/2008, -9/+5The original ending sucked also
- tee349, on 05/24/2008, -0/+10why in the unholy ***** did they not use that ending? perfect
- Dustyb, on 05/23/2008, -0/+11The alternate ending is on that page. There is a little faster loading version on this page.
- Altari, on 05/23/2008, -1/+14It would have been totally amazing had they stuck to the book. But no, we had to make things shiny and flashy and make the infected a strange mix of the Resident Evil zombies and the 30 Days of Night Vampires.
- Dredg, on 05/24/2008, -3/+1It gives me a boner.
- datagod, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3Watch "The Last Man On Earth" on Google Video. It is now in the public domain. Vincent Price is awesome.
Be warned though...the quality is not up to par. I loved the movie though, much more true to the book. - pkonink, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1The I Am Legend novella is godly, one of the better books of the McCarthyist 1950s, and even more socially relevant in the post-modern age of terrorists.
Now I am sooooo glad I skipped the movie - my "Will Smith's Movie Law" saved me again. If you're curious the law states, "If Will Smith plays a lead role, it must be a sell-out pile of crap so avoid it."
- Sommerlost, on 05/23/2008, -1/+39No joke, I saw it a few months ago. Thought most of the film was cool but didn't care for the ending... it all make sense now. I'd like to see that alternate ending...
- DeviateSeptum, on 05/23/2008, -0/+26It wasn't a last minute change but look what studio heads did to Conan. Barbarian was awesome... Destroyer was some kid-friendly marketing vehicle.
- Djharlock, on 05/23/2008, -9/+2How can a movie be "awesome" if it was ruined by the laziness of a director?
- bjs3171, on 05/23/2008, -1/+7because it was the studios not the directors?
how can you ask a question about something you didn't read?
- bjs3171, on 05/23/2008, -1/+7because it was the studios not the directors?
- Owned1Up, on 05/23/2008, -15/+22Regarding "I Am Legend", the cut ending does not represent the book in any way, nor was it the "point" of the entire book, or even help the point. The movie was so different from the book in every way that even an ending where you find out that the poor bastards are intelligent doesn't even matter. Not to mention that in the cut out ending that is supposidly so much more like the book, Neville lives and drives happily into the sunset with the girl that was supposed to be a vampire in human drag who sets him up to die. The movie was awesome, the end. How about doing a little more research next time...
- CircleFusion, on 05/23/2008, -1/+15The moment when I felt "I Am Legend" was awesome was the scene where the zombies are huddled in a corner in a dark room. That was amazingly freaky!
The moment when I felt "I Am Legend" dropped a couple rungs was when the zombie dogs (and the other zombies) would not cross over that little sliver of sunlight to attack the main character and his dog. *shakes head*
But the movie was still very entertaining until...I was horribly disappointed in the ending. It would've been much more interesting to see the story described in the article (the one in the book) where the zombies show more intelligence.- Owned1Up, on 05/23/2008, -0/+3Well..they were, you know...dogs. I think it's easy enough to assume they are intelligent at the point where they set a trap, release dogs to attack him, and ultimately hunt him down. If you are going to ruin the movie with an ending that doesn't fit the story for the sake of showing a little more of the book while ruining other parts, you should just make a strait adaptation of the book and be done with it.
- MrNeom, on 05/23/2008, -1/+2This is digg, no one does any research. . .
- n8f8, on 05/23/2008, -0/+12I read it and the ending I read he does find out HE is essentially the monster.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 05/24/2008, -0/+4Not just that, but there were only SOME vampires that were actually intelligent, and they were killing off the mindless ones as well. Neville simply didn't know that and was killing both types during the day. He was captured and sentenced to death by the intelligent ones, but he didn't really blame them for it, and I think many of the intelligent ones couldn't really blame him, either. And no, the monsters in the movie were NOT benevolent, just somewhat intelligent. They still massacred scores of people on sight, remember? Cracked ***** up a lot in the research area.
- utahnkid, on 05/24/2008, -1/+3That's not entirely true from what I've heard. I'll admit up front I've never personally read through the book but I read through one of these comparisons when the movie was released and they went into detail about the book. From what I remember some of the book's "vampires" are normal during the day and called "day walkers". Smith's character isn't a scientist, but just a normal guy that happened to be immune and made it his single goal in life to kill the vampires. He wasn't trying to save the vampires, humanity, or anything else. He just wanted them dead because they were different. A female day walker befriends him and finds out where his hide out is and rats him out which is how he eventually gets caught and brought back to them to be killed. The moral of the book is that yeah the "vampires" were way different but they were the new norm and HE was in fact the alien being to them. They were frightened of him because he would kill so many hence the name legend. The book tries to point out that just because things are different, it doesn't mean they're "bad" or "evil" and that one person's idea of perfection can be totally different from another's. The new ending in the movie pretty much conveys that exact message. That he was trying to "cure" these vampires when they didn't want to be cured because as far as they were concerned, HE was the one needing some curing. In the second ending he realizes this, "un-cures" the girl, and releases her to them realizing that they would never accept this new cure and that maybe he's the one who's been wrong.
Now please explain how this isn't sort of related to the book. I mean it's definitely loose, but the connection is still there. - bcerz811, on 05/24/2008, -1/+0with the "original" ending, it definitely was closer to the book, but i still treat them almost as 2 different stories; both of which i liked. to me, the movie version and the book focused on 2 different characters since in the movie, he was a scientist and in the book he wa sa regular guy. so its almost like..the same (?) story from 2 different perspectives. i enjoyed both. as long as i don't compare one to the other too much, it doesn't bother me. however the ending where he doesn't blow them all up makes way more sense and i wish they would have kept that one instead of making up the new one.
- CircleFusion, on 05/23/2008, -1/+15The moment when I felt "I Am Legend" was awesome was the scene where the zombies are huddled in a corner in a dark room. That was amazingly freaky!
- postalblowfish7, on 05/23/2008, -17/+3dante should've died at the end of clerks. then at least there wouldn't have been clerks 2.
- FecalHurler, on 05/23/2008, -1/+8Am I the only one that liked Clerks 2? Hell, I'll even go as far as to say I liked it better than the original.
- PigGeneral, on 05/23/2008, -2/+3BLASPHEMER!
- SketchaMPM, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4Clerks 2 was pretty good actually. Not amazing or anything, but far better than I expected and easily better than 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back'.
- orangefly, on 05/23/2008, -0/+3i get more white women than the first life boat off the titanic....
- HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Clerks 2 clearly showed Smith maturing as a person. If you can look past the dick and fart jokes, there's a really good message in that movie.
- FecalHurler, on 05/23/2008, -1/+8Am I the only one that liked Clerks 2? Hell, I'll even go as far as to say I liked it better than the original.
- Willy99, on 05/23/2008, -2/+45the original I am Legend (Last Man on Earth) w/ Vincent Price is much better.
http://tesla.liketelevision.com/liketelevision/tun ...- tradwolley, on 05/23/2008, -0/+7I also liked "Omega Man," a different remake with Charleston Heston.
- Willy99, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2that was better than the recent remake too... but the Uncle vinny version is still my favorite.
- Tyrghast, on 05/23/2008, -2/+6Omega Man kind of sucked.
- jgtg32a, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4Your right it did but Charleston Heston made it good.
- Willy99, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2that was better than the recent remake too... but the Uncle vinny version is still my favorite.
- AzureRise, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1I like that movie and lots of Vincent Price's other movies. Which is the one where he's trying to discover immortality or something and they discover the water leaking from a cave where his lover's coffin is kept her young for like 30 years or something?
- tradwolley, on 05/23/2008, -0/+7I also liked "Omega Man," a different remake with Charleston Heston.
- diggydougie, on 05/23/2008, -4/+9They forgot Brazil.
- cresswga, on 05/23/2008, -0/+7What do you mean? Unless you are talking about the crap Sid Sheinberg version which only got shown on tv Brazil was ultimately released as Gilliam intended.
- directedition, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Ahh yes, that definitely should have been on the list. Thankfully, the 'real' version is readily available today. Though the butchered version is still used for broadcast on some channels.
- dangerdooms, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2The butchered version ?! I have the one where he turns out be insane and it's all in his head, maybe, ending. Is that the butchered one or is there a different scene ?
- directedition, on 05/23/2008, -0/+6The original cut ended with him and the girl living peacefully away from the city. The 'real' version has the reveal showing it was all in his head.
- oldhick, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1I'm a little confused with this... So you actually prefer the version where the studio ignores the director and bring in douche bag to hack the living ***** out of the movie and make a 90 minute love story?
- directedition, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1No... he prefers the director's version. The version that was released in theaters was the one where the studio ignored the director. Hence, a last minute change that ruined the movie.
- fahrvergnuugen, on 05/23/2008, -3/+50Dug for I Am Legend being ruined by Hollywood
- smashingmonkey, on 05/23/2008, -1/+7The original ending would have made no sense with the rest of the movie. It would have made sense with the book, but not with the movie, which has very little to do with the book. So while it would be fair to argue that they screwed up the whole movie (compared to the book), I think the modified ending worked quite well with what the movie ended up being.
I was able to enjoy both the book and the movie as separate entities, but then again I don't go to movies with the unrealistic expectation that they'll perfectly resemble how the book played in my imagination.- MiddleOfNowhere, on 05/23/2008, -0/+7I don't know ...
Smith's character is ambivalent enough. He routinely kills the creatures in his basement because he wants to, you know, cure them. That's Blade Runner level toughness/cynicism. He is on a mission. He is half-mad, aggressive, suicidal.
The original ending would have worked, portraying him as the monster from the past.
But it would have made the mainstream audience leave the theater confused and with a bitter taste in their mouths."Huh? I don't get it, honey. Why did Will not kill all those beasts? That was crap."
And that's a risk Hollywood won't take. We are all supposed to be happy happy happy.
- MiddleOfNowhere, on 05/23/2008, -0/+7I don't know ...

The Stepford Wives (2004) - Instead of having the same bleak ending as the 1975 movie, the studios forced Frank Oz to mash up the film so bad so it didn't make any sense, just so all the "popular" characters don't "really" die, they were just brainwashed. The original cut had the same, bleak ending as the original. What's wrong, Hollywood? Not all stories have happy endings... and that's okay!

- MelroseMan, on 05/23/2008, -12/+47Actually, I am legend would have been much better if it didn't have the religion sense in it. How lame.
- battletrax, on 05/23/2008, -19/+10Digg would be a lot better if it didn't have people making fun of religion.
- MelroseMan, on 05/23/2008, -3/+9How am I making fun of religion? I am just saying it would have been better without the religious overtones. If I were to make fun of religion I would need to say religion turned my preacher into a child molester or something...
- JulyZerg, on 05/24/2008, -1/+2Yep - people all agreeing is so fun. Hell, why don't we just get rid of everyone who doesn't think Obama is a Muslim. Then we can have our Norm Life undisturbed.
- Nickooo, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Would it really?
- smashingmonkey, on 05/23/2008, -4/+6Some of us can see content like that and see something mystical or even spiritual without seeing religion.
- jgtg32a, on 05/23/2008, -1/+5I might be in that camp also because I don't know what he's talking about.
- ch33sehead, on 05/24/2008, -1/+5"Mystical" and "spiritual" are words that don't really mean anything and don't serve any purpose other than to perpetuate the myth that religion might actually be accurate.
- warplayer, on 05/23/2008, -0/+11Speaking as a Christian, I fully agree. It just shows how lazy the writing was and how cheap of a plot device faith can be when just thrown in to try to make something "deep." Should have kept religion out of a zombie movie (which originally was a vampire novel).
- bcerz811, on 05/24/2008, -2/+2i dont know i thought the religious overtone at the end was interesting. it wasn't as though the whole movie was promoting christianity, i just thought it was interesting because the one character so firmly believed that God would save them, and Neville was like no wai we're on our own and it was just interesting to see the different views on such a bleak situation. i mean seriously how many people would continue to believe in their god (any god not just the christian God) after 99% of the world has been killed off or turned into rabid zombie vampire monsters? it just kind of shows how much people hang on to whatever they have faith in. neville had faith in science and himself, thats what he relied on. the woman relied on her god. it was interesting to me.
- Mattso, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2I could not agree more with what you are trying to say... I enjoyed the movie until the ending got all supernatural.
- bcerz811, on 05/24/2008, -3/+1and why am i getting dug down? i didn't say i liked it because i was happy about christianity being advocated, i thought it was interesting because it shows the aspect of human nature that sometimes must rely on something other than itself. why is the digg community so scared of even the tiniest mention of religion...its just another part of human culture.
- MelroseMan, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1maybe its because they don't agree with you.

- cheech794, on 05/23/2008, -0/+12I am pretty sure that Ridley Scott never denied making that monologue for Harrison ford at the end of Balid Runner, but he fixed it on the directors cut.
- EntropyFan, on 05/23/2008, -2/+4I actually liked the theatrical release of Blade Runner more then the 'directors cut'.
The monologue did fill in parts, although it could have been read better. They went for the hardcore, only slightly remorseful killer atmosphere and missed.- MiddleOfNowhere, on 05/23/2008, -0/+3The funny thing is that Ford later admitted he read it that way because he hoped it would not be used.
And although I think the Final Cut is the "real" Blade Runner, the monotonous voice-over from the original ironically supports what Scott said about Deckard: He is in fact a replicant.

- FecalHurler, on 05/23/2008, -12/+3I actually thought the alternate ending was terrible, and I'm glad the movie ended the way it did. Perhaps that ending was better for the book, but since the movie de-evolved into a horror/zombie fest, the ending was fitting.
- fani, on 05/23/2008, -0/+11I recently watched the I Am Legend alternate ending and I was taken aback by how better that ending was. Normally, these alternate endings are a joke to make you buy a super-duper-directors-cameraman cut version of the same freakin DVD.
But not so for I Am Legend. The alternate ending was vastly superior to the theatrical ending. That should have been the ending.

- Carl306, on 05/23/2008, -4/+8In the process of reading the book, but I thought the ending for I Am Legend in the theatrical version was fitting given the context of the rest of the movie. I'll agree with what others have posted in that if only at the very end they simply revealed the lighter side of the zombies, it would have been lame.
- wanderson, on 05/23/2008, -1/+38Damn, that's really disappointing about I Am Legend. I was wondering why the ending was so out-of-sync with the rest of the movie.
- jgtg32a, on 05/23/2008, -0/+5The movie ended in my mind with him committing suicide on the docks by attacking the vampires after he was force to chock out and kill his ONLY friend on the planet.

- lukeduke, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4Is a spoiler warning really needed for a movie that is 20 years old?
- Hangly, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1I wondered why the ending seemed so tacked-on.
- SuperVepr308, on 05/23/2008, -0/+6I am Legend:
The book was great. The movie, so-so.- utahnkid, on 05/24/2008, -2/+2I dunno man.. To be honest the "book", if you can call the small pamphlet that it is a book, has kind of a retarded message. I'll agree the book and movie are far different but the book wasn't all that great to begin with.
- SuperVepr308, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1I must disagree. One of the best novellas I have read and I have read alot. You are entitled to your opinion though. It ain't for everybody.

- alexduhgreat, on 05/23/2008, -1/+23That's the worst thing I've ever seen with I am Legend. The whole point to reverse the roles, and make us think is cluster ***** by Hollywood yet again.
- LogicBomB, on 05/23/2008, -0/+50They alluded to "ET" with the walkie-talkie quote but it needs to be said:
The new ET replaced all the cop's guns with ***** walkie talkies. Sound stupid? Try watching a dozen cops point walkie talkies baracade-style from behind their cop cars at the kids.
Ridiculous.- BobSutan, on 05/23/2008, -0/+3I thought it was flashlights, not walkie-talkies. It's been an while, but that's what I remember.

- bjs3171, on 05/23/2008, -18/+7whatever. i liked I Am Legend. And the ending did not make the hints at intelligence null.
- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2I am so glad that I actually saw this. We should actually be talking about 'Blade Runner', and hundreds of movies that got chopped up by idiots who abandoned the vision of people who had written the stories.
- spikeyxx, on 05/23/2008, -0/+5Ack, I HATE when board room politics get in the way of artistic vision and creativity.... Honestly, I remember watching a south park epp which went into this kind of thing, and laughing hoping that it wasn't true, but having learned how these films should have gone down I feel saddened... Perhaps they wouldn't have grossed as much box office money, perhaps they wouldn't have gone on to spawn countless sequels... perhaps that would have been a good thing :(
- MikeyTwit, on 05/23/2008, -1/+21...and this is why most people just wait for the DVD (or torrent) to get the original "director's cut" or whatever and watch at home on their own home theater. No overpriced popcorn, no one spilling pop down your leg(happened to my wife the last time(and I do mean LAST time) we went to the movies 4 years ago, no annoying chatters behind or in front of you.
- DangerCollie, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3And no self-important douchebag holding up his blue glowing cell phone to check text messages. One of many reasons we quit going to movies.
- DharmaTurtle, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1You didn't see Finding Nemo or Iron Man? Your loss.
- MikeyTwit, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Note my comment was about going to the movies, not watching movies. saw Finding Nemo and will watch Iron Man when released on DVD. I have a home theater system and feel no need to see it on the huge screen, when I feel my big screen is enough for me. All that "you need to experience it at the theater" speak is subjective. No I don't, I enjoy watching films at home, thank you very much.
- georgemason01, on 05/23/2008, -2/+21I love how any message in a movie dealing with reconciling with an enemy, or a main character realizing he is the bad guy rather than his "enemy", is almost forbidden in major Hollywood movies. I'm almost inclined to see a political connection here, in which we actually don't want people to consider this line of thought lest people in America start to rethink some of the basic ideas they hold about so-called enemies and threats to them or their country.
- MiddleOfNowhere, on 05/23/2008, -1/+6You win.
Movies can make you cry or laugh. They can make you think about your motives and responsibilities - *or* confirm your perception of being the good guy at the center of the universe.
When in doubt, Hollywood will go for the latter.
- MiddleOfNowhere, on 05/23/2008, -1/+6You win.
- stanleyford, on 05/23/2008, -5/+6The theatrical (changed) ending for I Am Legend means some scenes no longer make any sense (e.g., Neville getting caught in his own trap becomes a plot point which is never resolved), but it's a much better fit in terms of the overall tone of the movie.
- repick3, on 05/24/2008, -6/+1Its not HIS trap, artard.
- stanleyford, on 05/24/2008, -0/+7Yes, it is his trap. He even says it's his trap in one of the deleted scenes. The infected just stole it and used it against him, but they're not the ones who originally constructed it. My point was that that the implications of this aren't explored because of the changed ending.
- repick3, on 05/24/2008, -6/+1Its not HIS trap, artard.
- mikeyellenlee, on 05/23/2008, -7/+8I'm so happy this person wrote this article, I am Legend was a sad excuse for a remake...most people don't even know it's a remake or based on a novel...and i love how they had to be politically correct in this day and age and make a black guy the last man on earth...so of course the original ending was controversial, we couldn't make the black man the bad guy!!!
- bcerz811, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3i'd like to think thats not why they picked will smith to be neville....i mean...who the hell cares if he's black or white...he was just a guy...
- jbarket, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3Not only that, but he's actually a decent actor. Not that he hasn't made his fair share of *****, but he's perfectly capable in any role that doesn't have a tie in rap song with it's own dance.
- mikeyellenlee, on 05/25/2008, -2/+1oh come on, you know someone would have ***** their pants if they made the last man on earth a white boy. Keep dreaming.
- bcerz811, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3i'd like to think thats not why they picked will smith to be neville....i mean...who the hell cares if he's black or white...he was just a guy...
- maexn, on 05/23/2008, -1/+54[...], where it is advertised as the "controversial original ending." Yes, coming to a peaceful reconciliation with your enemies is now more controversial than blowing them right the ***** up.
-nuff said.- DCJoeDogaswell, on 05/23/2008, -0/+15That's America, baby.
- briankoenig03, on 05/23/2008, -0/+9Yes, the original ending was rejected because Smith's character would have been appeasing the zombies by realizing he was in the wrong. An appeaser just like Neville Chamberlain!
In the Hollywood ending, Smith instead acts like a Decider.
- thetruthis, on 05/23/2008, -19/+4buried for saying the alternate ending of I Am Legend is better. That's just inaccurate.
- gh0st32, on 05/23/2008, -6/+1mirror please...
- petethepanda, on 05/23/2008, -0/+8They didn't digitally remove the blood from Die Hard 4, they digitally added it for the DVD release. The addition of swearing did much improve the feel of the movie (which surprised me to be honest), but the theatrical version still kicked WAY more ass than I thought it would.
- neFariou5, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Dugg for correcting about the blood and swearing, but not for saying the theatrical version was good - cause it wasn't.
- Speed, on 05/23/2008, -0/+6Dugg for nothing more than I am Legend and Live Free or Die Hard.
I loved both movies, and with LFoDH, I could even live with less blood and less swearing. But when it got to the endings for both, they just pissed me off. Ruining the point of the movie by ignoring all the evidence of their intelligence was bad, but censoring "Yipee Kai Yay, *****" is just unforgivable. - evilpettingzoo, on 05/23/2008, -3/+2Forget the endings how about taking the god damn cgi out of every movie. Am I the only one who thought movies looked better when we used real things. Plus I can't believe actors like standing in front of a green screen all day long talking to air, or punching at nothingness. Not to mention wearing that stupid full body speedo with the ping pong balls stuck to it.
