Actors That Have Died Before Their Movie Was Released
nydailynews.com — Heath Ledger, whose performance as as the Joker in the summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight" earned rave reviews, died months before the film hit theaters. He is hardly the first movie star to die before release of a final film. But there were more...

- TheThirdLevel, on 07/22/2008, -7/+4True. Bruce Lee didn't die, he kicked death in the balls and took over its spot and faded from public eye.

- josephbloseph, on 07/22/2008, -2/+0it is disgusting how the article has been edited since, to remove some of the inaccuracies. There should be some mention of that edit, other than the gray 'updated' line.
- daRoach, on 07/22/2008, -0/+3Also what about Vic Morrow? Accidentally killed by a helicopter on the set filming The Twilight Zone Movie.
- Tomchei, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1I remember the news of that when it hit the CBS Saturday morning "In The News" segment.

They died too.

- BinaryDelt, on 07/22/2008, -1/+6Out of respect for Mr. Julia, I recommend we refrain from any "Street Fighter II" talk. Considering its awfulness was probably the cause for his death and all.
- MRintheKeys, on 07/22/2008, -1/+1It's true. Street Fighter did kill Raul Julia.
- ManicMyna, on 07/22/2008, -1/+1he propabably topped himself anyways rather than let SFII kill his acting career
- NeoCortex, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1You're right. It certainly wasn't the classic that "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank" ended up being.
- Cenobite, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Though Street Fighter sucked hard, Raul Julia's performance was great and loads of fun to watch, and it's clear he had a lot of fun playing General Bison.
I'm not ashamed to admit that I actually catch Street Fighter whenever it's on TV just to savour Mr. Julia's performance (and Ming-Na Wen is easy on the eyes - particularly in a Chun Li costume!)
- cusoman, on 07/22/2008, -1/+41So apparently any chump can write a list now and get it to the front page of Digg. Standards? What standards?
- benologist, on 07/22/2008, -0/+9Most of the stuff that hits the front page is pretty poor quality. Standards went out the window the day it was decided stories should be promoted based on how many people you swap diggs with instead of merit.

- Quaterni0n, on 07/22/2008, -1/+1Even you could write one!
- trying2hide, on 07/22/2008, -3/+4Also noteworthy is that River Phoenix was set to film Interview with a Vampire. Christian Slater took his place. I'd say that if you are going to star in an Ann Rice novel being put on film? You should make sure the life insurance is up to date
- mk3k, on 07/22/2008, -4/+1Ann Rice has written some decent books but non of them have been good films.
- mojoel, on 07/22/2008, -0/+2Yeah, maybe so. Aliyah and River Phoenix both died before their respective movies came out. You might be onto something...

- liuite, on 07/22/2008, -2/+18buried. Bruce's unfinished film was "Game of Death".
His son Brandon also died before finishing "The Crow"- HumanRecalled, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1While in the middle of filming The Game of Death, Bruce Lee was given the offer to star in Enter the Dragon. The first kung fu film to be produced by a Hollywood studio, and with a budget unprecedented for the genre, it was an offer Lee couldn't refuse. Unfortunately, Lee died of cerebral edema before the film's release. At the time of his death, he had already made plans to resume the filming of The Game of Death.

- somedirtbag, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6"He's not fat, he's fluffy."
For those of you who don't know, there are five (5) levels of fatness: Big, healthy, husky, fluffy and DAAAAMN. - Treoinmypocket, on 07/22/2008, -0/+3somedirtbag beat me to it. Farley was definitely approaching "DAAAAMN"

- Hockey13, on 07/22/2008, -4/+29Am I the only one who's sick of seeing TDK-related news on the front page? We get it, Heath Ledger acted really well and then died. Other people die and act well too. There are other stories out there.
- axis, on 07/22/2008, -2/+1Burry it then. Doesn't Digg have filters? Set one up for that too.
- robEstyles, on 07/22/2008, -2/+0"Other people die and act well too."
Well isnt that exactly what this is about - lroche, on 07/22/2008, -1/+3I just bury anything TDK related. I looked at this one as it was not specifically about TDK.
- BradOFarrell, on 07/22/2008, -7/+0But The Joker and The Crow are the only cases of these actors playing creepy morbid roles. And The Joker is way cooler than The Crow. I predict a popular halloween costume. "No one else is allowed to dress like The Joker."

- Jhiaxuz, on 07/22/2008, -0/+7Oh come off it. Really, I don't even have to read this story or description to know Heath Ledger "inspired" it. ***** off and let the man rest, let the movie make millions and stop flooding Digg with more of the same *****.
- Broomie, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Lenny LcLean (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0572597/) who played Barry the Baptist in Lock, Stock died a month before it's UK release. I was expecting to see that on the list somewhere.
- boot20, on 07/22/2008, -1/+5What? Why not Bela Lugosi? He died in the middle of filming Plan 9 from Outer Space.
- Depravo, on 07/22/2008, -8/+2HEATH LEDGER BANDWAGON ARTICLE ALERT!!!
The only discussion that kangaroo-shagging boor warrants is whether we should refer to him as 'Death Ledger' or 'Heath Deadger'. - Arghblarg, on 07/22/2008, -6/+4For criminy's sake -- can we just STOP with the Heath/Joker/Dark Knight stores on this frigging site? As of this moment I am burying any story that is even peripherally connected to this frigging movie or its actors. Yeah, we get it, some people really like this movie. Please join me in this effort if you even partially agree.
- o5rob5o, on 07/22/2008, -4/+1But did you see the movie it was great.
It was an awesome ground breaking performance to which everyone should see Ledgers last cinematic role.
If you want you can email me and I can point you in the correct directions for some awesome reviews and theories behind the movie.- veganvelma, on 07/22/2008, -0/+2It's not his last role.
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus comes out next year.
- veganvelma, on 07/22/2008, -0/+2It's not his last role.
- lroche, on 07/22/2008, -1/+1Agreed. I plan on seeing it when the crowds and hype dies down a bit. Frankly all the "its the best movie ever" stuff is getting a little annoying. I know its probably a great movie but can we all just lay off the hype a little.
- o5rob5o, on 07/22/2008, -4/+1But did you see the movie it was great.
- jedcred, on 07/22/2008, -0/+3Somewhat insensitive and morbid, wouldn't you say? "Dropped dead" for John Candy? Do only fat people "drop dead?"
Why are we talking about this anyway? People do eventually die at some point in their lives, and some before or after notable events in said lives. Does it make their lives worth more or less somehow? - xeroinsanity, on 07/22/2008, -2/+1Here's another similar article....
http://digg.com/movies/Posthumous_Films_Movies_rel ... - EmitStop, on 07/22/2008, -1/+10R.I.P. Phil Hartman. He was Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz on The Simpsons.
- daRoach, on 07/22/2008, -0/+8You may also remember him from such films as Jingle all the Way and Saturday Night Live skit Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer.
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 07/22/2008, -0/+3He did SO many voices (that all sounded pretty much the same, his natural voice), he had such a perfect voice for it.
- robEstyles, on 07/22/2008, -3/+2There is no Lionel Hutz I believe you are thinking of Miguel Sanchez
- smaskat, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Newsradio.. I actually recently started watching it and it's pretty weird but still a very funny show.. Bill McNeil.. my idol.
- Animal, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Wouldn't this apply to pretty much any working actor who died before retirement? Pretty much any actor is working on something that would eventually get released if they had died.
- somedirtbag, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1If you're gonna copy a comment from the article, I guess I gotta give you credit for a decent choice.
- Animal, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Really? I didn't even read the comments actually.
- somedirtbag, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1If you're gonna copy a comment from the article, I guess I gotta give you credit for a decent choice.
- acatzr800, on 07/22/2008, -3/+3The only thing more annoying than more stories about heath ledger are the comments bemoaning another article about heath ledger
- AirRaven, on 07/22/2008, -2/+1Way to miss the point.
- Elliottx, on 07/22/2008, -1/+2See, lots of other famous people died before they released their movies. Please stop circle jerking over Heath Ledger now.
....Although I think he would actually like that. - Cyrock, on 07/22/2008, -4/+3Heath Ledger is the new Kurt Cobain
- myhandleondigg, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Guess you didn't proofread that summary before submitting the article?
- JazzCatDRP, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Unless Heath Ledger's actual funeral and body are in The Dark Knight, nothing could top Bruce Lee in this regard.
- serif69, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1This is hardly the first time I am burying an article due to a bad summary. But there were more...
- Csaliture, on 07/22/2008, -0/+3Oh how I miss Chris Farley
- erichw1504, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1This won't be the last digg article that is somehow connected to The Dark Knight. I bet there will be more...
- milobennett, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Standards? They didn't even get the headline right - it is actors WHO not actors that.
- gubersky, on 07/22/2008, -0/+0Worst list ever.

- jotty, on 07/22/2008, -0/+2What about Oliver Reed? He died during the filming of Gladiator, so the VFX company (www.the-mill.com) had to digitally impose Oliver Reed's head on a body double to film the rest of the movie.
- dslartoo, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Reed was also a MUCH better actor than John Candy or Chris Farley or Aaliyah or some of the other "actors" on this list. I was annoyed he didn't make the list either.
- protodon, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Quite a few of those movies aren't worth mentioning.

Should have definitely made the list - ibeetle, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1The artical could have been a bit more detailed on two actors.
James Dean not only did he not see the release of Rebel Without a Cause, but he did not live to see Giant or East of Eden either.
You can also add for Heath Ledger, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
Then there is Peter Sellers The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu
- alfonsoe, on 07/22/2008, -1/+0I think its extremely sad that because of the attention around heath the film previews focus on the character of the joker rather than 'the dark knight' or aka batman. This too me is for no other reason than to profit from the hype and media attention?
If you search for the first batman film preview you notice all the focus is on batman , with the addition of his villians.
Anyone else agree? - kokoshka, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1This is hardly the first story to get buried for an awful description. But there were more...
