- deanlowe, on 10/12/2007, -12/+47Success killed Borat and it might also kill Bruno.
- feaks, on 10/12/2007, -15/+123you meant "great success"
- Gemini25RB, on 10/12/2007, -42/+29Now if we could only kill off all the people who keep spouting Borat quotes, I would be a happy man. Maybe we could start with my roommate...
- Anthem26, on 10/12/2007, -40/+8in the words of borat from me "Wawaweewah!"
- DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+124The server is as dead as Borat.
- andrewsmith1986, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17He'll live on in our hearts.
- wafflez, on 10/12/2007, -36/+64seriously....i hate the retards who only watch the borat movie and repeat every friggin line from the whole movie thinking they're funny...and then other retards laugh with them....>_> at least have the courtesy to watch the ali g show and actually understand what the character is..
- 4NDr01D, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12apparently killed that server too
- kingkilr, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4Thank you Waffelz, thats what I told my friend, the movie quite literally killed it for me,"Can I make ***** in your house?"
- 4NDr01D, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16great NPR interview, perhaps what the dead link was referring to was he is now too well known.

Not very many people are good enough to stay in character, and _never_ break character for so long and act so well to fool that many people.
- Derelict267, on 10/12/2007, -18/+4Borat became too popular now and everyone hates it, the movie, and character. I think we've seen this before...napoleon dynamite anyone? Even though I didn't like that movie, everyone loved it, then too many people did, jokes got old and then shortly after everyone hated it. I'm sad to see that this has become of Borat...I saw all of the Ali G show US and UK before the Borat movie was even announced.

http://people.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_1247189.php/King_of_the_Globes_Sacha_kills_Borat - twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -18/+12Thank god that Da Ali G Movie sucked balls, or else we might've had him killed off too.
- SouthernDigger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Time to pay our "Respek!"
- adezero, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10I actually really liked the ali g movie, well worth the 5 dollars at walmart dump bin
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -18/+7Would it mean much if I said I never liked borat in the first place?
- SpoBo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Cohen, who is engaged to 'Wedding Crashers' actress Isla Fisher, has reportedly signed a £22 million deal with Universal Pictures to star as Bruno - a flamboyant gay Austrian fashion reporter who, similarly to Borat, would go undercover to infiltrate the fashion world.
hahahahahahahhaa omfg :') I can't wait. - KingMoses, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@SpoBo:
Can't happen, he's too big now, everyone will be expecting it. It's what happened to the dude from Candid Camera; you can't prank someone who recognizes you. - opiniastrous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Interesting. When Baron pretty much moved to the US after becoming too well known across the rest of the world, I always wondered how he would be able to continue playing his characters when he became well-known there too (seeing as he plays off unsuspecting victims). I guess instead of going to new markets now, he's just going to continue inventing new characters (which is better IMHO).
- exsst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Sacha Baron Cohen has revealed he won't make another character-driven movie.
The reclusive Borat star says he's become too well-known to get away with it.
And he admits that pretending to be the offensive Kazakhstani reporter for weeks on end left him exhausted.
In a rare interview out of character, the English-born comedian told US radio that his next project would have to be something completely different.
He said: "I think it will probably be impossible.
"There are a number of things that are in development.
"The [next thing] will probably be a scripted comedy.
"I think the days of me going undercover are probably over."
He added: "There are a number of challenges.
"One is that I have to stay in character usually for about eight hours at a time, because if someone gets suspicious and says, 'Wait a minute, he's standing there in the corner like a guy from England', then everything's over.
"There's a lot of physical preparation - I never washed the suit, when I come into the room there's immediately this terrible smell. Borat doesn't wear deodorant so there is this kind of dreadful Soviet-bloc smell the moment I walk in."
But movie insiders said last night his comments could put a multi-million dollar deal with one of Hollywood's biggest studios at jeopardy.
The actor, 35, reportedly signed a US$42.5m film deal starring his comic creation Bruno.
According to Hollywood Reporter, a deal has been made with Universal Pictures to star as the gay Austrian fashion obsessive. It is thought the movie would be similar to Borat, with Cohen going undercover to infiltrate the world of haute couture.
A Hollywood insider said: "They were banking on him coming up with another Borat.
"There's no guarantee people will flock to see something that is scripted.
"Whatever he does next could make or break his career in Hollywood."
And he revealed he sometimes felt like an assassin when he was making the film - especially during a dinner party scene where he returns to the table from the toilet clutching a bag of his own human waste.
He added: "There is a moment when you feel almost like a hit man.
"You look in the mirror and it's as if you've pulled the gun out and you're about to assassinate someone and you're doing a hit and you know everything's going to change. Everyone's having a good time but I'm about to bring a bag of fresh faeces to the table."
He told US radio station NPR [National Public Radio]: "At some point I've got to reveal the real me, reveal the real moustache."
And he laughed off speculation that he could be in line for an Oscar at this year's Academy Awards.
He added: "It would be so bizarre.
"When I made this film I never intended to get any critical acclaim.
"You want to make your friends and fans laugh. I'm just happy to get a couple of nominations and return to England."
It comes as the spoof documentary, Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan was nominated for a prestigious Writer's Guild of America (WGA) Award for Best Adapted Screenplay at the weekend.
Cohen is also in the running for a Golden Globe as Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
Ex-Baywatch star Pamela Anderson - who appears in the comedy - says he should win Best Actor. - nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -10/+26I hate all these goddamn borat quotes too. Know why?
. . . because I'm Rick James bitch! - superdigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"seriously....i hate the retards who only watch the borat movie and repeat every friggin line from the whole movie thinking they're funny...and then other retards laugh with them....>_> at least have the courtesy to watch the ali g show and actually understand what the character is.."
yes, one definitely has to watch the Ali G show to understand the complex origins of the deep, multifaceted character the mainstream media thinks it knows today. - DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Mr Wafflez, I'm glad you were doing it before it was cool. Perhaps there are some bands you listen to that we haven't heard of yet?
- converge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42It was bound to happen. He is just too popular.
- tsuki, on 10/12/2007, -17/+19Nevermind.
- rstarr, on 10/12/2007, -24/+7No tsuki, we'd like to know.
You're a valued member of our community, we want to hear what you have to say.
We'll listen.
:) - nikkesen, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3Too bad it didn't happen sooner.
- laceym, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I can't get to the article, but I heard he filmed enough the first time to make two movies.
- gepetos, on 10/12/2007, -38/+4The reason he killed off Borat is that he didn't want to get ***** sued, not cause of his poularity
- falch69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I don't think he's too worried about getting sued...been there done that... It's just too hard for him to be interviewing people when everyone knows who Borat is now. The movie was his greatest success but unfortunately just made him too well known.
- wafflez, on 10/12/2007, -18/+12@ falch, the british were ALOT smarter and quicker than the US....he used to have his show there, and then people caught on and refused interviews, so he was forced to come here...
- StevethePirate, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9@wafflez
the UK is also a lot smaller than the US, so naturally it would take longer for everyone to discover who he was. - dumdummuoi, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7@StevethePirate
shouldn't its small size mean it takes *less* time for people to discover who he was?
- brianbennett, on 10/12/2007, -22/+30No tragedy here... it's his least entertaining persona.
Ali G I actually miss.- Bobaliki, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30Yeah I'd love to see Ali G make a comeback
- jdb252, on 10/12/2007, -24/+10I think I know about 15 million people who would disagree with you.
- snowpatrol, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Booyakasha!
- rayishu, on 10/12/2007, -7/+69IMO Ali G was his best charector, i quote stuff from him all the time...
thats why i have no friends... - jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7borat was ok...some parts of the movie...well, i would probably be just fine without them.
ali g, however....AHHH!..hilarity ensues. - Calypsoaf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Respek.
- stupidStan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No one seems to know that there is an Ali G movie out and has been out for a while. About a year or so ago, I came across the Ali G movie in the wal-mart $5 bin - its called 'in da house' and is incredibly hilarious/dumb - I highly recommend it.
- merle2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dead... and no mirrors I could find worked. Anyone have any luck?
- contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This thing got seriously *****, at least after about 30-40 diggs.
- mrlost117, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8Borat was VERY NICE
sucks he had to go- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I had a feeling he'd get tired of performing the character.. I'll miss him though
- cougar618, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6... and digg kills the server.
- JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I'm sure it was a variety of reasons. More difficulty finding people that don't know Borat. Not wanting to get sued all the time. Wanting to branch out to characters that speak regular English.
Is good, I know!- mr1337, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2What is this 'regular English' you speak of?
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Queen's English or American English or Commonwealth English.
- Gomo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35Sacha Baron Cohen's Speech after winning the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for Borat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2jgF5g7bW0
- Crossmenjeff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7High Five!
- diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Server Too Busy tells me nothing of this article.
- Cheeseness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Borat doesn't work when people know who he is.
The more mainstream the media that the character is revealed as being an act in, the less chance he has of actually convincing anybody he's from Kazakhstan.- Dmaulchris, on 10/12/2007, -23/+4Warning: This is a stupid comment.
In soviet Russia Kazakhstan believe you (will blend)
- Dmaulchris, on 10/12/2007, -23/+4Warning: This is a stupid comment.
- Anand999, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13How far could he really stretch the Borat character though? I mean, when he was going around doing appearances for the Borat movie, you heard the same 10 jokes over and over again. Assuming this is true, I think it's a good thing rather than milking the character for all it's worth to point where it's no longer funny.
- dvsbastard, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Was he "execute"?
- Ductapemaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7No, the server has been 'execute'
- Eastlygod, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Timmmbbbberrrr. Down goes the site. 5 minutes on the front page.
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Digg kills off Server!
- damentz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Its using microsofts .net framework, are you suprised or something?
- borninussr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13"If movie not success, I will be executed." O well there goes Borat!
- Distroia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6How can that be a quote when that's not what he said?
- h3xZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4...execute
>_>

- ggarenn, on 10/12/2007, -34/+5*****!!!!!! this is a ***** tragedy. i think a big reason why he's done with Borat is because too many people know of him already. you can't really ***** around in public when somebody might recognize you and ruin your skit. this happened to Tom Green back in the day.
nonetheless, i'm hella sad. borat was one of the funniest characters ever created, ever. and cohen is a genious!- kixxster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26please don't ever use the phrase "hella (something)".
- ggarenn, on 10/12/2007, -23/+5haha lick my ass. it's not your place to tell me how to talk.
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4"it's not your place to tell me how to talk."
1) it's the Internet, and furthermore it's digg. That's the whole point, telling people how stupid they are.
2) It is my place to bury and block you!
Good day sir! - jamesmorad, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1@kixxster
ahh quit griping about the "hella (something)" phrase. step one foot in northern california and thats all you hear from most kids. its like the "eh" canadians have. just ingrained in the culture. - Lafftermath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Thanks for your insight as to why you think Baron-Cohen is done with the Borat character.
Want to know why I feel the same way?
Because I read the article and saw that he pretty much said those same words himself, Nostradamus...

- psycx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"Booyakasha" comes from Jamaica and means "Death to white man". You might like to think twice before using it again.
- XISUPERMANIX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The only negative I think Borat had was so many jokes of his were old, before the movie came out he went on The Tonight Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and many others and he told the same jokes the entire time. Also all the lame ass people that dressed like him at the premiere, on Halloween and the countless others that tried to do their impression of him.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Wow, and here I thought I was the only one who didn't like him...

Man, this just SUCKS !!!
I DONT LIKE !!! - over900, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Most of the stuff he did in the movie was just rehash from the original UK show anyway. I was sorely disappointed by the lack of new content.

- understudy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Once the feature film came out, the game was over. When I saw that he arrived to the Golden Globes out of character, it was clear that he was 'retiring' the alter ego.

those guys have been digged. :) - ElSmacko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Pamela Anderson says he should win Best Actor."
^^^^^
Speaking of awards...do we have a "Least Qualified to Make Recommendations to the Academy"?
Although, in reality It would be great if he did win, just to show good acting isn't always about doing serious (usually seriously boring) dramas. It always delights me when the Acedemy decides to get a little less stuffy, like when Sigourney Weaver got nominated for "Aliens" and Jim Carrey for "How the Grinch Stole Christmas".- indifference, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AHAHAHAHAH SO RIGHT.
- mocherz, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0this is just like when they killed off Jim Crow.

***** borat. - InsultComedy, on 10/12/2007, -24/+1Sacha Baron Cohen made fun of another ethnicity. Kind of like a Caucasian doing black-face.
- basebaII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16...except that Cohen is Jewish himself.
- InsultComedy, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1Yeah, Cohen is Jewish, so he should know better. Duh! 2 wrongs don't make a right.
- epiccollision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4but potentially funny...and proves your ignorance, hence the point of the movie
- Ghstfce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ethnicity and race are two different things. Poking fun of Jews being a Jew yourself is NOTHING like a white man doing comedy black faced. A better comparison is like the creator of the Boondocks or Dave Chapelle making fun of black people.
- DogGunn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dang that sucks - Borat was one of my fav characters.
- lowfalls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good move, smart man.

- kamikazicondon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i have watched da ali g show since it started on the bbc
ali g is a funny character and if you think borat is funny you will like bruno - Kronos6948, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Better to go out on top than to beat it to death. I knew this was coming when he announced the Borat movie. Hell, once Borat hosted the MTV europe awards, I knew it was over. It's quite bittersweet. At least with Peter Sellers' Clouseau, there were many movies, but since Borat wasn't a scripted character, one famous movie and he's gone.
- 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ali G movie anyone???
http://movies.peekvid.com/s3992/ - Legacy23x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sacha Cohen is a very funny comedian. I'd be willing to bet he will easily replace that character with another. I like the Borat character and love the Ali G show but it's nice to see he isn't gonna drain this character dry.
