Billboard dedicated to Heath Ledger blocks from his home
dailystab.com — The massive billboard featuring Heath as the Joker is just two blocks from his apartment where he died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs back in January.

- digjam, on 07/08/2008, -10/+45R.I.P. Heath !
- JettaMan, on 07/09/2008, -15/+7I bet he looks pretty much the same as the billboard after all this time.
- nar3024, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1Woah...that's uncalled for and very insensitive! www.EatABagOfDicks.com (not my site)
- JettaMan, on 07/09/2008, -15/+7I bet he looks pretty much the same as the billboard after all this time.
- JHaze, on 07/08/2008, -1/+124This isn't dedicated to him, it's part of a national ad campaign, I saw the same one near O'Hare airport in Chicago.
- boejangles, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Wait... The Dark Knight is a movie or sumthin?
- viacombusta, on 07/08/2008, -0/+181It's not so much a dedication as it is a billboard for a movie that he was in.
- ThatDustyGuy, on 07/09/2008, -2/+23Shhh! You're ruining the moment!
- thestranger, on 07/09/2008, -4/+3Well, one could say it's "dedicated" to Ledger in the way that 98% of the space on the billboard is dedicated to his likeness.
- feliks2, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2It doesn't actually look like him, and its definately not 98%.
- thestranger, on 07/09/2008, -2/+3It doesn't matter if it looks like him; It is him. You did get me though, it is more like 75% sorry.
- Pittance, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2It doesn't look like him. It looks like a character he played that had a crap-ton of makeup.
- thestranger, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2what why are you guys arguing, I was just joking with my first post, but....Yes, if a picture is of someone and they are in make-up, or dressed as someone else, or playing a role it is still their likeness.
- bpoteat, on 07/09/2008, -2/+5And he didn't die in his apartment - it was Mary Kate Olsen's.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 07/09/2008, -1/+4Why are you getting dugg down? That's true and it was the first thing I thought as well.
- megamod, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1At first the movie company was all respectful about it and now they do this? that's just flat out using his post humus popularity to their advantage.
- StanleyKoolPrik, on 07/08/2008, -13/+27Say what you want, but dead guys sell movies. Ask Brandon Lee.
- Xihix, on 07/09/2008, -3/+3Low blow man, low blow.
- davydany, on 07/09/2008, -0/+22No he's right. Just cuz its hard to hear it, doesn't mean its not true.
I regret the loss of Heath Ledger, but his death offered free publicity for the movie. Its the truth. Hard to hear, but its the truth.
+1 from me.- Animal, on 07/09/2008, -2/+10Yeah and without it The Dark Knight would have been released into total obscurity.
- ConceptualTrap, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Normally, I'd agree with such sentiment but I remember seeing trailers to the Dark Knight before his death and the bits you see of his portrayal as the Joker was incredible then. In nearly all cases you'd be right, but I feel confident in saying that the Dark Knight would have slaughtered the box office and Heath would've been nominated regardless.
- drgkstep, on 07/09/2008, -0/+12Funny you mention Brandon Lee, doesn't he look an awful lot like the Crow?
- mrmiggidude, on 07/09/2008, -8/+2I wish you were a little bit more classy. Any catastrophe will help the world's population problem, but it isn't okay. You guys are sad.
- insertnewsn, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Call the Waaambulance.
- SlavaPastuk, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1The fact that you care so much about a movie star you never met is what's sad
- LukeHenry, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1I don't know. did Brandon Lee's death "sell" the crow? It may have given it a lot of publicity, especially since he died on set. ... but people get over celebrities deaths pretty quick.
- bixby1, on 07/08/2008, -8/+1Ominous for sure...
- jave8u, on 07/09/2008, -2/+11. portending evil or harm; foreboding; threatening; inauspicious: an ominous bank of dark clouds.
2. having the significance of an omen.
pick one
- jave8u, on 07/09/2008, -2/+11. portending evil or harm; foreboding; threatening; inauspicious: an ominous bank of dark clouds.
- tubesurfer, on 07/08/2008, -1/+16love the streaked makeup that ledger and nolan and the TDK crew designed for the joker. it turns burton/nicholson's clownish joker into a haunted spectre.
- praisethelard, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Clownish Joker? What were they thinking?!
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/09/2008, -0/+24These are all over the country.......whats the big deal?
- MrZop, on 07/09/2008, -1/+72I have a viagra billboard blocks from my house, want me to post that on DIGG?
- Synn, on 07/09/2008, -1/+19Are you saying they dedicated it to you? Are you trying to tell us something?
- MOJIRA, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5LIMP!
- God, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Few people know this, but that billboard near your house is actually dedicated to me. They messed up the address.
- Synn, on 07/09/2008, -1/+19Are you saying they dedicated it to you? Are you trying to tell us something?
- Xihix, on 07/09/2008, -2/+8CAN'T SEE *****, CAPTAIN
EDIT: Never mind, working now. Anyway, whats so special about it? It's just a damn advertisement. - mediaspree, on 07/09/2008, -5/+25There is probably a pepsi or sprunk billboard within a few blocks of his house too. Dude died, movie will be good. Stop glamorising his death. It was self induced.
- btschul, on 07/09/2008, -2/+6As insensitive as it sounds, he has a point.
- aftern9ne, on 07/09/2008, -10/+4What is Digg's obsession with this guy? Buried for lame.
- androothebear, on 07/09/2008, -5/+4mirror?
only 112 diggs and its down - Caleb83, on 07/09/2008, -4/+8Is it just me, or does Ledger look remarkably similar to Brandon Lee as the crow? Never mind the obvious coincidences.
- btschul, on 07/09/2008, -3/+11We get it. The Dark Knight is going to be awesome. I am going to see the midnight showing on opening night. I will probably see it in Imax 3d the next day. Heath ledger will be amazing. I am tired of seeing this *****. Please stop. I don't need to know everytime someone utters heath ledgers name. It's not news anymore.
- squarepegs, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4I second that. Now lets all watch the recommendation system explode after all the Dark Knight digging turns to burying...
- Jubalint, on 07/09/2008, -0/+9This is news?
- xombiefarts, on 07/09/2008, -1/+4What are they planning to do with the massive poster after they are done with it? This thing could cover my whole apartment building, WANT!
- SidiousX3, on 07/09/2008, -9/+2wait....heath ledger died?!?!?!
- seraph582, on 07/09/2008, -8/+5jesus christ people - get over Heath Ledgers death please. Just another australian actor that's successful in hollywood. BFD.
- thestranger, on 07/09/2008, -3/+2He is a truly great actor (or the very least was well on his way). His death was always very shocking, due to his age (28). Yes he died 6 months, but this was his last movie, he's receiving great praise for his performance (even before his death), and its a huge franchise. Of course the movie/he is getting a ton of attention.
- born2conform, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1His last film is going to be Terry Gilliam's Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
- thestranger, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1Yea, I know that, but I am not going to count him having done some scenes, and digitally adding his face on people, and having him played by different actors for different dimensions.
- seraph582, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1That's ***** - he's been in awful movies too - like that Mel Gibson abomination "The Patriot." A fat lot of good he did in that movie.
- thestranger, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Believe it or not, but great actors can be in bad movies. Not only that but they can't save bad direction, scripts, bad marketing, editing etc. I work in a theater, and there are some really good actors that work there and come through, but that doesn't mean the awful plays we put on are some how made more entertaining because there is good actors in "Mid-life Crisis: the musical" (I wish I was making that up).

- narcofiche, on 07/09/2008, -0/+9Death makes so much money.
- thestranger, on 07/09/2008, -3/+4Cynicism creates so much annoyance.
- MrTito, on 07/09/2008, -1/+9I think Heath Ledger's take on the Joker is gonna be awesome, and maybe even award worthy which would be amazing for a summer blockbuster. But isn't it a little early to start predicting nominations, especially when very, very few people have seen the finished work?
- Vokas, on 07/09/2008, -1/+4But you just predicted it might be award worthy...
- MrTito, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1*head asplodes*
I said *maybe* award worthy.
I was referring to quotes in the article, and just the general "awards buzz" that's been floating around this role since his death. I only state that it might be award worthy, not that it IS award worthy like a lot people have been doing. I haven't seen the finished film, neither have most of the people making predictions. - Cenobite, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1It does seem ridiculous to talk Oscar about a movie that hasn't even been released yet - not even considering the fact that it's another six months or so before awards season.
Nevertheless, as I understand it many major critics have seen the film and they can't stop circle-jerking about how amazing Heath's performance is. That sort of universal fellatio from critics doesn't come around often and I'm sure that not *all* of them are merely distracted or biased because of his death.
Based on that alone I think it's safe to say that it'll take a truly epic acting performance to steal the Joker's thunder before the Academy Awards.
- MrTito, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1*head asplodes*
- Vokas, on 07/09/2008, -1/+4But you just predicted it might be award worthy...
- Boarhead, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4Dang it!! I'm getting tired of Digg posters make crap up!! This in now way is dedicated to him!!
- TheAmazingBob, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1I walk by this exact billboard every single day on the way to lunch from The Puck Building to Whole Foods. I can not express in words how excited I am for this movie. Some people think that this whole "Oscar talk" is just hype because he died, and I absolutely disagree. He acted the way he did while he was alive, and that's what's on film, and that's what counts.
- boomerang42, on 07/09/2008, -19/+4BAWWW IM A RICH *****.
BAWWW THE ROLE I PLAYED IN A MOVIE WAS "DEEP".
I THINK I'LL KILL MYSELF.
And nothing of value was lost.- Tyrghast, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2A sequel to A Knights Tale. That was lost. I love that movie and I want another dammit!
- LukeHenry, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1In a weird kind of way there was a sequel to A Knights Tale. ... The Order. nothing to do with A Knights Tale but the director considered it kind of a sequel, he used almost the exact same crew. most of the same actors. it's a great movie.
- Tyrghast, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2A sequel to A Knights Tale. That was lost. I love that movie and I want another dammit!
- Antyrael, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1Ha, I thought the title said the billboard blocks his home, as in restricts access to it. I need to learn to read.
- Bjp494, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1Thats not that amazing. wow, they were advertising for a blockbuster movie coming out, cool? the fact that there was a billlboard close to his apartment isn't anything special
- MetalGear7, on 07/09/2008, -1/+3What's sad is if he does get the award we will never know if it was just because he died....
- harrisbradley, on 07/09/2008, -1/+2Heath has so much support it's crazy. I just was in the tenderloin district, and apparently 100 ghetto fools each dedicated poster size memorials on the side of a run down building side by side all the way down the street. Touching, but lesser so, was a memorial posted about a poodle who is MIA.
- kd420, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2If theres one thing I don't want happening is people trying to make money off of Heath's death, or in this case putting up inaccurate titles. Yes, he probably is going to have an amazing performance in the movie, but lets wait and see. Stop putting up "Give Heath an Oscar" or articles like this just to play on people's emotions. Buried as inaccurate, it's an ad.
- bracketdash, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1January? I hadn't realized how long it's been..
- DesertDude, on 07/09/2008, -1/+9Screw Heath Ledger. WTF did he ever do to deserve all this praise? Name just one thing he'd done for humanity, or anything worthwhile at all.
Enough you shallow, mindless idiots. - thrillhouse900, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6Ughhh, I hate how the marketing as turned for this movie, trailers, billboards....
Its like, "Hey, the guy who played the joker died, I'll bet we'll make tonnes more money by marketing this movie towards it!
Welcome to Hollywood.
Wouldn't be suprised if they changed the name to "Heath Ledger in THE JOKER"
I hope the movies great and all, I just, can't help but think of all the big-wigs making a hefty dollar off Ledgers death.
Like, all the new trailers??? They give the impression that batman is just a supporting role.- cthulhukb, on 07/09/2008, -2/+0The Joker was the main marketing force behind this movie LONG before Ledger died.
- thrillhouse900, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1*****, the first trailer had like, 2 lines from the Joker and like, that long distance shot of him on the streets.
you were like, "OMG IS THAT THE JOKER?!?"
now its like the reverse.
- Socratores, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8More Ledger spam.
- italics, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3This title couldn't be any more sensationalized if it tried. Dedicated? Really? It's a BILLBOARD advertising a movie, and they're all over NYC and the nation, not just "blocks from his home." News flash: you'd see the same billboards if Ledger were still alive today, it's called advertisement. Another news flash: The Joker is the most popular villain in comics. Macaulay Culkin could have played the rule and you'd still see the same damn billboards.
- CoMpUtErITGuY, on 07/09/2008, -1/+2I liked him in A Knight's Tale and The Patriot.
- seraph582, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1castrate yourself. Those were abominations.
- Fedorian, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1***** SITE IS DOWN!!!
- Ibox, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Its a billboard.
- Maverick0420, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2i still think jack is a better joker
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Jack wasn't even playing a character, he was being himself.
- itsthebrod, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Can someone remind me why every 5th article on Digg is a circle jerk for a dead guy who had a couple big roles in a few movies? This isn't a ***** billboard dedication, it's an advertisement for a movie. Jesus Christ the people who dugg this are idiots.
- balilanai, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Heath Ledger was a dork.
Fathered a child and then left his wife, philandering with other women, abused prescription drugs and is a bad role model for everyone.
Buried! - JoshuaLowe, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2There was an ad on TV for The Dark Knight, and it just so happens THERE IS A TV IN HEATH LEDGER'S FORMER HOME!
_CRAZY COINCIDENCE ZOMG_ - cybrguy, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Accidental overdose of prescription drugs... Movie advertising.... While the movie may be good, and the billboard cool, this is hardly newsworthy. Actors ODing on drugs are not good role models.
- rowlodge, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1seems like people that die leave the earth after doing a really freaky scary role of themselves, look at" alia", she made a movie called "queen of the damed", she died in a plane crash right after, now heath and this role, i would not want to leave the earth with this as my legacy.
