Bush is an idiot (no offence) - "W" the film
news.yahoo.com — Oliver Stone's film portrait of President George W. Bush was always going to be controversial given the director's liberal leanings.

- GordonFree, on 10/12/2008, -66/+29Name 1 famous, intelligent person who doesn't have "liberal leanings".
- gquaglia, on 10/12/2008, -30/+52Typical liberal snobbery. If you don't think like me, then your not intelligent. Give me a break! How about Henry Kissenger, Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, William Rehnquist, ect.
- GordonFree, on 10/12/2008, -23/+18No, see, you're naming politicians. That's people inside the system, who don't really are who they say they are, because they get paid to do it.
Name people who don't have the system filling their bank account to say they're "convervative".
Artists, scientists, writers. It's OK I'll give you another shot... - gquaglia, on 10/12/2008, -13/+26Clarence Thomas and William Rehnquist are politicians?? Silly me, I thought they were Supreme Court Justices. And Colin Powell, before he got into politics, was a successful military officer who rose through the ranks from Private to 4 star general to the Chief of Staff of the Joint Chiefs. Quite an accomplishment for any man. You list artists and writers. Well I guess you don't realize that most "creative" people are liberals by nature, they go hand and hand. It doesn't, however, automatically qualify them as intelligent.
- TunaFishGangsta, on 10/12/2008, -7/+22Colin Powell got out after he saw what your buddy Bush was doing. That tells us that he came to his senses. And he's still "undecided" regarding the upcoming election: http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/09/15/ ...
Clarence Thomas and William Rehnquist were appointed by politicians. Yes, even our Supreme Court is infected with politics. - GordonFree, on 10/12/2008, -27/+9gquaglia:
Yeah stupid ass, I know they were pathetic supreme court tools, but they were also politically involved, so i put them all in the same bag. Oh wait, you thought I didn't know that? I guess I know more than you. Don't underestimate people. - Clbck, on 10/13/2008, -3/+14@TunaFishGangsta
Why do you assume that just because he is arguing that liberalism does not have a monopoly on intelligence that he is automatically a Bush fan? Honestly, it's a baseless conclusion, as disapproval of Bush crosses party lines. Obviously not all Republicans think so, but a fair amount do (Ron Paul, anyone?) - IIAmusedII, on 10/13/2008, -5/+1ect ect ect
- EvilJelloMan, on 10/13/2008, -9/+17Phrases like "typical liberal snobbery" show you to be a typical partisan hack. Guess what: Liberals and Conservatives all do the same douchebaggy ***** when discussing the "other side". Partisan idiocy like yours is exactly why this country has suffered through a constant raping of the lower class and middle class, too stupid to realize they are making a choice between a giant douche and a turd sandwich.
- rootbeerinacan, on 10/13/2008, -10/+3Henry kissinger:
-he's on the inside so he doesnt count
-he is in on the new world order
-he wants population reduction
"Bringing the world down to 320 000 people would be ideal."
-Kissinger - FairDinkumMate, on 10/13/2008, -1/+4Henry Kissinger - A war criminal that is likely THE main reason the US has not signed on to many international war crimes treaties!
- kawaiirobo, on 10/13/2008, -1/+3@EvilJelloMan
Do you not feel like a hypocrite? You call out Gquagilla for being partisan (he is, and it's not right but I digress) but you ignore the partisan asshattery from GordonFree. If your going to act like the non-partisan voice of reason, at least be fair about it. In an attempt to insult partisan politics you clearly show your own liberal partisanship. - Puffles, on 10/13/2008, -1/+3@Gordon
They were "politically involved," so they don't count?
I challenge you to name one intelligent person with "liberal learnings" who isn't "politically involved" in any way. - EvilJelloMan, on 10/13/2008, -1/+1@kawaiirobokawaiirobo
No, I don't feel like a hypocrite. The OP's statement, while clearly full of partisan bias, also has a grain of truth. A large percentage of "famous people" who aren't involved in big business or politics seem to have a liberal bias. The silly part of the OP's statement is trying to make it seem like we should model any of our opinions on the things famous people do, but that's as much general dumbassedness as partisan bias.
Spouting "typical liberal snobbery" and then rattling off a bunch of names that in no way contradict the OP's statement is a far more douch-ey move, IMHO, than trying to make a weak connection between famous peoples' opinions and being "right". If the OP had gone on and on about "ignorant conservative bigots" or some such nonsense, then I would put him on the same level as the post to which I replied. - kawaiirobo, on 10/13/2008, -1/+1@EvilJelloMan
you can disagree with what OP says all day, and you'd be right to, but you didn't address the question I asked you. You obviously are only ripping on him for his conservative view, but ignoring the just as bad liberal bias from GF, if you can't see that then you are completely blind to reason. Like I said before, don't go calling BS on political partisanship if your not prepared to call BS on ALL partisan politics. It just makes you look like a biased person as well. - EvilJelloMan, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1And you are missing my point - I will call on outright dickheaded partisan bias when I see it. The post by gordon was biased, but it didn't have the "typical conservative" blah blah blah nonsense. If it did, I would consider his post to be just as bad as the one I replied to.
Everyone who discusses politics has some degree of bias some way, but I found the tone of the "typical liberal snobbery" post to be far more offensive than the OP.
For the record, I consider myself fiscally conservative, but rarely vote republican because very few of them are actually conservatives. And I rarely vote democrat, either, but that's a different story.
So no, I'm NOT showing my liberal bias, because I have no liberal bias. I just think one poster was being a bigger dick than the other, so I chose to respond to that one.
- GordonFree, on 10/12/2008, -23/+18No, see, you're naming politicians. That's people inside the system, who don't really are who they say they are, because they get paid to do it.
- TunaFishGangsta, on 10/12/2008, -17/+25I can name 1 famous person who has "liberal leanings"... George W. Bush. The man has spent trillions to better Iraq. However, no one knows why.
Many believe that he is a genius. We call these people Republitards, and they are Sarah Palin's base.- Dumbledorito, on 10/13/2008, -6/+11There's that weird disconnect. "Liberals" are supposedly "fiscally irresponsible," yet the defecit has ballooned under the past 3 "conservative" presidents we've had. Further, every time a "conservative" lowers taxes on the wealthy to stimulate growth, it's never worked, nor has any of that weath "trickled down" to the people it was allegedly going to benefit as well.
- fedja, on 10/13/2008, -1/+2Yea, cause all Iraq really needed to be better is some craters and a million dead people.

- idhindsight, on 10/13/2008, -11/+7The man that made the propanda hit piece for Creationism and hosted the game show on TV? Yeah, real ***** genious.
- davidsakh, on 10/13/2008, -5/+3I don't disagree, but you picked horrible examples.
He said famous AND ***intelligent. Please see my post. - Segaw, on 10/13/2008, -2/+7Well, he was class valedictorian at Yale. Is that good?
- davidsakh, on 10/13/2008, -4/+4"Our failure has been not to Nagasaki [Iraq]"
what a genius. Nugent is a caveman.
As for Stein, I hadn't heard about that, but anyone who claims:
"Love of God...leads you to a very glorious place, and science leads you to killing people."
is a delusional, if not necessarily stupid, person. - richardstaboner, on 10/13/2008, -2/+2Nugent?
- graeh, on 10/13/2008, -2/+1Stein? He's intellectually dishonest at best - ignorant at worst.
It's a false dichtomy on behalf of Gordon Free. The notion that all people fall within very limited stereotypes as defined by his particular culture and upbringing is dubious at best. The meaning of "liberal leanings" is also incredibly open to misinterpretation depending on his intended meaning, and the potentially differing accepted meaning of each cultural, ethnic, or political group. And finally - it's false to assume that "intelligence" is demonstrated by slavish adhearance to one "side" of something as flawed as a two dimensional political spectrum. Even by the intellectually lazy framing of liberal and conservative in the mainstream media from the US I'm exposed to - I believe it's entirely likely that intelligent individuals views on the myriad of issues large and small in the world fall in liberal and conservative columns on an issue by issue basis. One could argue that it is lacking in intelligence to form opinions based on sweeping ideaological stereotypes, rather than on an issue per issue basis.
I'm sure there are many, many well known and intelligent individuals who have stereotypically "conservative" opinions on some issues, "liberal" on others, as well as a swathe of opinions that don't fall in the counter-product "x or y" column cliches. - ChloeMS, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1No, he's not!
- MRoCkEd, on 10/13/2008, -7/+27Ron Paul
- GordonFree, on 10/13/2008, -8/+2Some would say he DOES have "liberal leanings". The press has said so.
- kawaiirobo, on 10/13/2008, -3/+3Gordon, your really stretching at this point, give up and quit being a dick.
- davidsakh, on 10/13/2008, -9/+1Ayn Rand, Thomas Paine, Milton Friedman, Adolph Hitler, hell, my biology teacher from high school.
There are thousands of examples, but it depends on your definition of 'liberal' because it means something other than it meant 200 years ago or elsewhere in the world.- davidsakh, on 10/13/2008, -3/+0why is this being dugg down? I'm genuinely curious.
Are you people not familiar with classical liberalism? Or are you just not fans of Thomas Paine? - GordonFree, on 10/13/2008, -1/+2I agree with your Adolf Hitler entry. He was intelligent. But he can also be considered insane.
The other ones, not so much. Try again - davidsakh, on 10/13/2008, -0/+0Plz do some research of your own before you disparage one of our brightest founding fathers. I could have mentioned several others.
Benjamin Franklin was also a fiscal conservative. He was a firm believer in hard work and believed men could create their own luck.
And calling Adolf Hitler insane misses some very important points.
- davidsakh, on 10/13/2008, -3/+0why is this being dugg down? I'm genuinely curious.
- ByronT, on 10/13/2008, -2/+50There are plenty of idiots who are liberal and plenty of idiots who are conservative.
- Segaw, on 10/13/2008, -1/+11This is the most accurate comment I've read all day.
- godofallcows, on 10/13/2008, -1/+2That should read to people form the site when they enter digg I believe.
- GordonFree, on 10/13/2008, -7/+1That's doesn't answer the question. C ya
- atact88, on 10/13/2008, -1/+5Famous intelligent people? We're deciding who's more intelligent in this country based on the politics of people who got lucky and famous? On a demographic that typically comes from upper class urban areas which clearly have their own political lean?
Intelligent people end up in science, academia, business, and this place called the real world (not the MTV one) - they typically don't get famous. And it's a grab bag. You get all kinds. There's no trend. - RRJackson, on 10/13/2008, -3/+4Famous? As in celebrity famous? Clint Eastwood, Kurt Russell, Dennis Hopper, Robert Duvall, James Woods, Mel Gibson, Denzel Washington, Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Lucas, Gary Oldman, Gary Sinise, Joe Pesci, Kid Rock, Joan Allen, Ron Howard, The Rock, Adam Sandler, David Spade, Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, John Malkovich, Dennis Quaid, Bruce Willis and Paul Sorvino. They're mostly pretty "successful" and "intelligent," from what I can tell.
- GordonFree, on 10/13/2008, -9/+2Huh... WITHOUT liberal leanings!
You basically named all the celebrity Obama supporters, with few exceptions. - Elranzer, on 10/13/2008, -1/+1George Lucas isn't a conservative. In fact, he's donated thousands to Obama.

- GordonFree, on 10/13/2008, -10/+1So just because they're in MIT they *MUST* be intelligent? Wow, you're totally off.
I was in MIT and I met a lot of idiots there - even teaching! - kawaiirobo, on 10/13/2008, -1/+8I thought going to MIT was a sign of intelligence, but if GordonFree can make it in, I might just rethink my opinion, the guy is obviously an immature idiot seeing how he just can't keep from negatively replying to any post that dosn't completely agree with him.
- Elranzer, on 10/13/2008, -4/+2There are no conservatives at MIT.
- hmunkey, on 10/14/2008, -1/+1I agree, BUT MIT has a lot more liberals than conservatives. The same trend applies for all "high level elite" colleges.
I'm not saying that means they're more intelligent than others, but yes, intelligent people do tend to think more progressively in a general sense.
- GordonFree, on 10/13/2008, -10/+1So just because they're in MIT they *MUST* be intelligent? Wow, you're totally off.

He's the only one I can name and he was liberal considering the fact he was the leader of Catholic Church...- GordonFree, on 10/12/2008, -13/+9And who says he was intelligent? God?
- Pixelante, on 10/13/2008, -2/+2You just demonstrated your lack of intelligence. Were you jerking off furiously while posting that?
- GordonFree, on 10/13/2008, -3/+1Seriously is digg really this filled up with retards? Who are you?
- Frostek, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1He worked as a volunteer librarian and did compulsory military training in the Academic Legion, but refused to hold or fire a weapon. In his youth he was an athlete, actor and playwright and he learned as many as ten languages during his lifetime, including Latin, Ukrainian, Croatian, Greek, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, English, Yiddish, Hebrew as well as his native Polish. He also had some facility with Russian.
Lots more stuff on Wikipedia...
Sounds like a nice and smart guy to me...
- hankthedwarf, on 10/13/2008, -9/+7Being complicit in thousands upon thousands of instances of child molestation makes you intelligent?
- xadhominemx, on 10/13/2008, -6/+1May make you an *****, doesn't make you stupid.
- hankthedwarf, on 10/13/2008, -3/+2Actually if you're INTELLIGENT and are complicit then you're pure evil. If you're just stupid and are complicit, then it makes you an *****. So in that case everyone in the leadership of the Catholic Church are just pure evil.
- SaperKain, on 10/13/2008, -3/+8He was intelligent. He admitted that evolution is more than just a theory.
- hankthedwarf, on 10/13/2008, -5/+1And how long did that take him? The entire institution of religion kept denying, denying, denying until it was completely apparent to anyone with half a brain that evolution was the truth. Then they tailored their fairy tale stories to include evolution to further blur the lines in their empty-headed follower's small brains.
- SaperKain, on 10/13/2008, -3/+4@ hankthedwarf
Hey at least he did it. Now look at our own TV evangelicals. Those guys still holding strong in their fight against science. - hankthedwarf, on 10/13/2008, -2/+1I suppose, but the ones that cling to evolution being a fallacy almost seem more honest since attempting to co-opt the science of evolution into religious lore to confuse their followers is a lot shadier to me than sticking to their guns.
- graeh, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3Heh - evolution is "just" a theory, so is gravity, thermodynamics, dna.
What he understood was that the meaning of theory - as used in science - is incredibly different to its meaning in the vernacular. To quote "Potholer54" - to find a higher truth than the theory of evolution - you need to move to the realm of math. A theory in science - is something that has withstood the withering strength of the scientific method, of peer review, of the passage of time. It is refined, and adjusted as scientific discovery relevant to it becomes known and demonstrated.
"Just a theory" is a willful deception of meaning spread by the intellectually dishonest, the intellectually lazy, and the straight up ignorant.
Theory in science, the older it is, is so incredibly robust in its power - that the lies spread by those who misuse the term are that much more dishonest, unethical, and at times evil.
Evolution is a theory - a scientific theory over 150 years old, constantly and comprehensively reaffirmed, and whenever appropriate, added to, and adjusted based on more knowledge and findings. We as a human species should be proud of the theory of evolution; proud that we have been able to make such astounding insights into the very fundamental nature of our existence and the universe see around us.
So remember kids - when you hear "just a theory" being thrown around about topics in science, there's an incredibly high likelihood that you're witnessing ignorance or deception. That evolution is a theory is its strength, not weakness, own it. And own the ***** out of people who pretend that it means otherwise.
And who am I to say so? I was brought up fundamentalist - I used to argue with scientists that evolution was "just a theory". When I finally grew up, and emerged from the cloud of influence and ignorance fed to me as truth as a child - established and embraced my critical thinking - I (as I've said before) was incredibly embarassed of my complicity in saying "it's just a theory". I was deliberately taught wrong - and the people who taught me that were culpable of lying to children, and abusing their intellectual authority to the ihghest degree. Many people are like me. Taught lies - which we accepted as truth, because we were children, and predisposed to absolute belief of those in authority over us. So keep it in mind - some of us just didn't, and don't, know better. But we can be changed. We can learn - and realise our mistakes.
- Motherfuhrer, on 10/13/2008, -1/+3He was the one who suggested opening of borders in 80's, free trade and open mindedness towards new different races, nations, religions. He even organized annual Christmas Rock concerts on Vatican's main square.
*****, he was the first pope to talk with Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist leaders. And he was against all wars that took place in his time...

I guarantee you that the guy has a Ronald Reagan picture in his bedroom. - EntangledPhysx, on 10/13/2008, -2/+4Fighting global warming is a waste if we can't control it. Nature has a much bigger say in global warming/global climate change then humans can produce. Sunspots appearing and disappearing has major affects on our climate, for example. - USER1236, on 10/13/2008, -2/+12I saw a recap of the 2000 presidential debates recently and it was sad to see that Bush did look like a much more capable leader back then. Gore exagerated his facial expressions. His audible sighs and rebuttals made him sound whiny. If he was the man he is today he would have won easily.

Civil liberties wise, he would never have suspended habeas corpus or introduced the patriot act, or locked prisioners in Gitmo. Gore has been trying to tell people how to solve the climate crisis while creating a global industry that could strengthen the economy since he wrote "earth in the balance".

- charlietuna, on 10/13/2008, -1/+4I think this crises may have still happened, though not in such a bitch-slapping cross-the-face John McEnroe fashion. Too many people were staring to believe that cash could indeed be conjured up from bad mortgages. Our currency system is backed by mortgages (google "money as debt"), so you would think that there would be strict accounting rules in place for that. Secondly credit swaps were marketed as insurance when they were really empty promises. CBS' 60 minutes explains the credit swap crisis well, as does Time Magazine.

- lazyfisherman, on 10/13/2008, -3/+8It's tough because he made it tough.
People asked him to unite the nation to fight the war on terror. Instead, he was a divider who settled personal scores, pissed all over the constitution and used fear and war to help his "base" grab obscene amounts of money.
That said, I hope you are right and that history will show that he did not ruin America.
- darkmagician777, on 10/13/2008, -2/+0The political manipulation game has been going on long enough beyond the whole " your vote counts". Its all lies. Funny, I thought that was the McCain-Palin campaign strategy [rim shot].
What's sad (coming from someone who voted from McCain in the 2000 primary) is that he so obviously hates the lies his campaign is spreading, but he must think they are necessary to win. He thinks wrong. I was still considering him until he started making nice-nice with the evangelicals -- and then the grotesque Palin choice made it impossible to vote for him. I think there are many others who feel the same way.
And now look at his fan base at the rallies. Sends a shiver down your spine.

ohh and to offend, it's not a fence- astorygirl, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1"Offence" is a mostly British variation of "offense." Since I've lived in both places, I sometimes slip into the British spelling. But both are correct - check the dictionary.
- jdpwnsyou, on 10/13/2008, -10/+4Yeah Stone is an idiot, and so is the submitter of this article...its offense. Jesus Christ.

- aud24, on 10/13/2008, -1/+2I will give Ollie this- he wrote the screenplay for two of my all time favorite movies- Scarface and Midnight Express... that said Bran from the goonies doesn't have me sold as a convincing W.
- astevens54, on 10/13/2008, -8/+1Oliver Stone is an idiot... and you morons are paying him to see this movie!
- spencen66, on 10/13/2008, -7/+2at the end of the day who are you going to want to have a beer with?
- b0rg, on 10/13/2008, -1/+6Jesus Christ. Even Moose Lady is embarrassed by Bush. That's really, really saying a lot. I feel a little bad making fun of her, she's just a small-town politico who learned the art of the backstab. Bush has been the president of the United States for eight years, and has royally ***** up each and every one of them.
Making him look goofy in a movie is a compliment; it's better than painting him as the shallow, foolish ideologue he really is. - alexkim804, on 10/13/2008, -4/+3offense*

- RobotCitizen, on 10/13/2008, -2/+3Intelligence != morality
Intelligence != intellectual honesty- MrGiblets, on 10/13/2008, -1/+7And Bush has none of those three.

- terrible0ne, on 10/13/2008, -6/+10Damnit!! How in the world can ANYONE support Bush and the Republicans?!?!?! Am I in the ***** Twilight Zone. The Republicans have had total control over this country for 8 years now and completely RUINED it. I mean really. Any somehow they still blame the Democrats! Why are the supporters of the Republicans either rich as crap or ignorant uneducated rednecks?? I really don't get it.
- friday04, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1First of all, don't confuse Republican with Conservative. I'll admit that Conservatives have become the face of the Republican party and may have even changed the Republican ideals forever. But what was once Republican, e.g., lower taxes, small federal government, state's rights, the freeing of the slaves, are now more in line with the Libertarian party. Unfortunately we live in a failed 2-party system that makes us choose between a Conservative or a Liberal and those 2 views are TOO FAR APART for most Americans.
Second, this nation has not be under Republican control for the last 8 years. The government was under Republican control for the first 4 years of the Bush administration but the last 4 years the Democrats have controlled both the Senate and The House of Representatives. And they all voted for some pretty significant measures that can be directly tied to the current economic crisis.
The real problem here is that no one takes an actual interest in political science. Most people are so emotional about one or two hot-button issues that they think they understand the entire political landscape. I am sad to see the dumbing of America. There is a lot wrong with our current political system and people can affect change but people need to understand the basics of politics in order to bring that change about.
And watching The Daily Show every day does not mean you're more educated on the subject of politics. It just means that you allow Jon Stewart, who understands politics very well, to do your thinking for you.- tufftugg, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1"First of all, don't confuse Republican with Conservative"...Is this the next lie the NeoCons are starting with? Republican/Conservatives are one in the same, sorry did not believe the WMD lie, mind you I'm not an American.
