Great PIC of Bale as John Connor About to Waste a Terminator
gizmodo.com — You saw the teaser trailer for Terminator Salvation on Wednesday, but like most teasers for these types of movies, you get a lot of flash but not a lot of robot. However, a new still image was released today that gives you a little better taste of the action —like Christian Bale pinning a Terminator robot with a helicopter then blowing his face off.

- fieldhockey44, on 07/18/2008, -8/+265If anyone can save the Terminator franchise from the abysmal Rise of the Machines, it's Christian Bale. But at the same time I hope he never gets stereotyped as the 'go-to' guy for turning around dead franchises, as seems to be happening.
- badwithcomputer, on 07/18/2008, -2/+137I think he's just having fun playing some of the coolest possible movie roles of all time. Batman? Check. John Connor? Check. I just hope George Lucas doesn't have his number...
- brstilson, on 07/18/2008, -2/+61Bale as Anakin Skywalker would have been 1,000,000% percent better than Hayden Christensen's "performance."
- deaftly, on 07/18/2008, -0/+24Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
- ChuyMatt, on 07/18/2008, -0/+18@brstilson
Do you really think that lucas would ALLOW him to do a good job? Look at all the talent in that film that dropped flat. - kjuto, on 07/19/2008, -3/+23Bond. James Bond.
But Daniel Craig is alright. Can't wait to see Quantum of Solace.
Then again, Bale would be an awesome Bond.
***** it I'm Drunk Right Now. - mihiryouthere, on 07/19/2008, -2/+1what was that about kyle katarn?

we have something in common - thirteenthcor, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2Daniel Craig is second only to Connery.
and Hayden Christensen isn't awful in things OTHER than Star Wars. Though George Lucas did his best to ruin his career, at least some people have taken notice,
As for Bale, Does anyone Remember Reign of Fire? Course I blame Matthew Mcannawhat for that flop.
Is Bale the Modern Man's "Willis"? - Azerael, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1If Bale played anyone from the Star Wars universe, it should be Han...
...and Bale would most definitely shoot first.
- RoroCo, on 07/18/2008, -0/+205Nah... Bale is only working on resurrecting franchises that were killed by gaudy Arnold Schwarzenegger roles (Dr Freeze in Batman and a very aged Terminator).
Next... He is going to make one bad ass Jingle All The Way remake.- dondara, on 07/18/2008, -0/+58Kindergarten Cop FTW!!
- Cyrock, on 07/18/2008, -1/+28as long as its "dark" and "realistic" :)
- gsp9216, on 07/18/2008, -0/+20it's turbo time!
- bob_the_alien, on 07/18/2008, -2/+7Did you see Bane in that movie, Schwarzenegger as Dr. Freeze was not death of that movie. There are just so many reasons that movie sucked. The representation of Bane thou, for me is the number one, and then just Robin being it it, would be number 2.
- orangefly, on 07/18/2008, -0/+14how about a commando remake....i think alyssa milano could use the work....
- paulvq, on 07/18/2008, -0/+8Who is your daddy, and what does he do?

- passedoutghost, on 07/19/2008, -8/+5@btschul: You actually liked Rise of the Machines?!

- thirteenthcor, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Wouldn't you be if you looked like that?
Besides, everyone knows lesbians are never that hot.
Their giveaway is their shoes... You wont ever catch a real lesbian wearing pumps of any type. They only wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
- Caleb83, on 07/18/2008, -0/+8And if anyone can ruin the movie, it's McG. Two powerful forces at work here. Will Bale's awesomeness overtake McG's awfulness, or will it be vice versa?
- mandarin, on 07/18/2008, -5/+3McGyver?
- maabus, on 07/18/2008, -1/+11Too bad they didn't get James Cameron back. Christian Bale is the MAN, but the movie really needs a good director for it to work. If Bale was in Terminator 3, it still would have been a dissapointing movie.
- caramba420, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1You're absolutely right. I've been saying it for years, but I really think now is the perfect moment for Pauly Shore to get into directing
- thirteenthcor, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1Cameron is an *****, but he gets results... that still doesn't forgive someone for being an ***** to everyone around them.

Totally. I hate Johnny Cash. - bob_the_alien, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I liked Reign of Fire, it wasn't by no means a great movie, but it wasn't bad either, just a decent action flick.
and a Carama420, that is blasphemy you speak, how dare you. - caramba420, on 07/19/2008, -0/+0@bob
It was a joke.
"Reign of Fire" vs "Ring of FIre" - bob_the_alien, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1@Caramba420,
I know, I got it, mine was also a joke.
- DigiRaven, on 07/19/2008, -6/+2Am I the only one that thought the rise of the machines kicked ass? I thought it played out well. No little whiny ass kid in this one, one hot chick, and a kick as twist at the end that sets off play for the new trilogy that is yet to be released. I can say it was a hell of lot better than this sarah conner chronicles that is playing on FOX.
- IneffablePolk, on 07/19/2008, -1/+3Yes. As it turns out you are the only one.
- Dwebtron, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2make that two. I loved T3 as well...
- caramba420, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1Actually, I totally agree with you. The screenplay and direction were magnificent, and the CGI was groundbreaking. I'm glad someone else feels the same way. I always get ridiculed for being such a fan of that movie.
Just kidding. That ***** sucked my left nut so hard.
- BeastOfGevaudan, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2I'm not so sure this movie will be good, even with Bale, it's directed by McG, who has brought us such classics as Charlie's Angels, and Charlie's Angels Full Throttle
- axalon, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Yeh, but if you remember even James Cameron had to work on something as bad as "Piranha 2". This could be McG's breakout movie, with the "Charlie" movies being the way he paid his dues.
- caramba420, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2It all started when he saved the American Psycho franchise from the horror that was American Psycho 2
- deadlift, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1lol dumbass Psycho 2 came out 2 years after..
- CrazyChair, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1I'm so confused on what to feel at this point. On one hand there's Christian ***** Bale, but on the other there's McG directing and the two guys who wrote Catwoman doing the screenplay...
- badwithcomputer, on 07/18/2008, -2/+137I think he's just having fun playing some of the coolest possible movie roles of all time. Batman? Check. John Connor? Check. I just hope George Lucas doesn't have his number...

- mikebb79, on 07/18/2008, -0/+13For sure! That is one of my all time favorites. I put it with Gattaca as far as movies alot of people haven't seen, but should.
- 223Sniper, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3I was debating whether to say Empire of the Sun or Equilibrium (as that is a SUPER good movie for guys). But EOTS is a classic.
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/18/2008, -7/+2Equilibrium sucked. It was derivative of so many other and better stories from various films and books.
- 223Sniper, on 07/18/2008, -6/+1***** YOU!
- masonexcell, on 07/19/2008, -8/+4Equilibrium, really was *****. First off the cover looked liked a Matrix rip-off which it really wasn't but it definitly wasn't a great movie like you are builind it up to be. If he ever had a flop that would have been it.
- machocheese34, on 07/19/2008, -3/+1Bale is a great actor but equilibrium wasnt the good compared to other dystopian movies like V for vendetta, children of men, etc.
- Cogboy, on 07/19/2008, -1/+4Equilibrium was good, but in a B movie kind of way. Gattaca on the other hand is a brilliant movie.
- ericisroot, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I surrender!
- Peck3277, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Rescue dawn and the Prestiege are both amazing.

- masonexcell, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I second that!
Prestige great!
Scarlett Yummy!!!
Rescue Dawn fantastic, A little slow but the human drama.
- snerfu, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Empire of the Sun is on my all time favorites list, that thousand-yard stare he had the last fourth of the movie was intense.

- Gobias85251, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3All good movies however if you haven't seen the Machinist yet go and check it out. The movie is pretty odd and it shows yet another side of Mr Bales abilities to become the character.

- Wildthing, on 07/18/2008, -17/+53A Colt M4 can't kill a Terminator, John Connor! Ur doin it wrong!
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/18/2008, -11/+2Looks more like a SCAR-L to me.
- nirav72, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7Nope. I think its an M4. Look at the telescopic stock at the end. Although this has a custom railing for addons just like the SCAR-L on top. I'm no gun expert. Can anyone confirm that this is a M4 or a close relative of the M4?
- lukemann, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6M4 with rail and CMORE optic
- Diran, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7I'm no gun expert but look at the stock, the grip and the mag and it definitely doesn't look like a SCAR-L to me.
- NoZb2k, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6Definitely an M4, the SCAR-L has a different butt-stock.
- mortigon, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6O_O
- Rivetgeek, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Its none of the above...and all of the above. It's a prop. Prop guns are often made by taking existing guns and mixing and matching the parts to make them look cool. They dont actually have to fire or be functional
- kinseyincanada, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2@nirav72 "Look at the telescopic stock at the end. Although this has a custom railling for addons" you know this and you dont consider yourself an expert?
- erasedgod, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1Um... it doesn't take much to put a new stock on a weapon. Same with railings. It could be just about anything. The only thing you can really be sure of from that picture is he's got a Surefire light with pressure switch and a set of back-up sights.
- ericisroot, on 07/18/2008, -6/+12Looks a lot more like the HK 416. Look at the barrel and the stock.
- Scorch44, on 07/18/2008, -5/+2That is definatly an M4, Looks NOTHING like a scar, and the barrel on an HK 416 is at least 3 inches shorter. As far as the movie goes. I will see it just for this scene thats in the picture.
- Jeebugorn, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1well, you can get the barrel in the 3" shorter version....or the regular version
- cawpin, on 07/18/2008, -7/+2It's definitely not an M4. M4 handrails don't butt up to the receiver rails. It's not even close to a SCAR-L. the receiver is a standard milspec design. It may be a Patriot Ordinance, but I don't think it is. The handguard and receiver look to be separate.
- Jeebugorn, on 07/18/2008, -5/+5i believe that's an H&K 416 not an M4....but basically the same thing though.
- greenm1981, on 07/18/2008, -2/+1Nope. It's an M4. The lower receivers are pretty similar between the HK 416 and the M4, but look at the muzzle. That's an M4 muzzle, not an HK 416.
- Jeebugorn, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2no, it is a 416. http://www.navytimes.com/xml/news/2007/02/atCarbin ...
muzzle looks exactly the same as the one on my M4 - akoch86, on 09/04/2008, -0/+0You are all wrong, it's the Barrett Rec7, formerly known as the M468. It is 6.8 SPC. You can tell by the front sight. They all come with the standard 6 position stock.
- IglooBurner, on 07/18/2008, -1/+30Maybe in the future the M4 or the H&K416 are modded to shoot out lasers.
- Defiant001, on 07/18/2008, -0/+38Pew Pew Pew!
- passedoutghost, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3And attached to sharks.
- inverselogic, on 07/19/2008, -1/+0with a laser instead of a scope, so connor can shoot lazer guided lazers..
- hawridger, on 07/18/2008, -2/+8I don't think that's even a T-800. Looks like an earlier model T. Perhaps, a few 5.56 rounds to the head can take out the earlier models?
- Infowarmachine, on 07/18/2008, -3/+6it can with DU rounds
- catch-22, on 07/18/2008, -0/+15He's not trying to kill the terminator... He just wants to know if it likes Huey Lewis and the News.
- jbarket, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2Best. Comment. Ever.
I demand someone redub the teaser trailer with Hip to Be Square with scenes of Bateman dancing.
- jbarket, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2Best. Comment. Ever.

- NamesTwister, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1You mean bullet penetration.
- sovietninja, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2It's called Deep Impact.
- sovietninja, on 07/18/2008, -2/+21Everyone who is burying the guy who says its an HK416 is an idiot and doesn't know anything about guns.
Look above his finger, see that white trigger selector? Only H&K weapons use that specific type.
Those saying an HK416 has a 3 inch shorter barrel, need to STFU. There are at least two variants of the HK416 a short barreled version 10.5 inch and one with a 14.5 inch barrel.
If you think I'm ***** with you look at the trigger selector on the HKPRO on the lower receiver.
http://www.hkpro.com/hk416.htm
Also the stock used is a Bushmaster LE Six Position Stock. I know because I use one. With a rubber butt pad though. The HK417 is known to have a variant of a crane stock as well.
The flashlight that is mounted on his weapon appears to be a SureFire Tactical Flashlight, it may be an M3 Combatlight using a different head. I personally use a C3 Centurion with a third party pressure switch.
I can't believe they would go so far to create such a bad ass gun for him to use, and they pick that piece of ***** sight. I would look much cooler with an EOTECH 552 Holosight (the one u use in missions in COD4) or an AIMPOINT® COMPML3.
Those of you complaning about the muzzle being an M4 muzzle are correct. During the development of the weapon it used an M4 Muzzle until HK corrected it. Im pretty sure he is using an airsoft replica in the shot, and among airsoft manufacturers they all have different muzzles. This may be a VFC HK416.- verynegative, on 07/19/2008, -9/+6Who the ***** cares...
- Cedargrove, on 07/19/2008, -1/+11I hope your job relates to this knowledge, if not, i might be reading about you in the paper someday. Well done though.

- Cedargrove, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3Ha, weird how knowledge is acquired sometimes. I remember after I read "Red Storm Rising" I was an expert on Russian subs for a few months. Now that I think about it, I don't know how the hell I managed to read a Clancy novel.
- sovietninja, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2@iChainsaw
Yes, this is due to videogames, airsoft and also having friends who are in the military who actually get to play with the "toys". Meaning they are not regular troops maybe "special", if you get my drift. - DuffyDirect, on 07/19/2008, -2/+2to quote happy gilmore "... psycho...."

- akoch86, on 09/04/2008, -0/+0Are you stupid. Why on god's green earth would hollywood use ***** airsoft guns for films. Though you are correct on the tac light being a Surefire. Why do you think I give a ***** what kind of light you use, much less whether or not your mall ninja ass uses a pressure switch. Get off your high ***** horse, and stop condescending to the people of this thread. Also, I can't believe you came back with:
"I play video games and airsoft...I don't own any firearms...It's just called browsing wikipedia."

- EvilFerret, on 07/18/2008, -4/+3That alone would be worth the ticket price for me. Damn ....kind of sucks knowing it won't happen :(
- diggB, on 07/18/2008, -2/+2Really, aren't terminators, like, ***** bullet proof? A shot to the head would just annoy it. Just say'in ...
- Memitim, on 07/18/2008, -0/+13Proof against the rounds that we use today against other humans because they are perfectly effective on flesh while being cheap as hell to manufacture. I'd imagine that if your primary target became those machines that something a bit more useful would be employed instead since economic considerations would rank pretty low on the requirements list.
- diggB, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Hmmm, point well taken.
- Laserdragon, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Anyway, maybe if you shoot it in the eye socket it would work. That spot never looked very bulletproof and I'm sure you'd hit something vital in there.
That is, if this were real and not a story anyways. - iChainsaw, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2Well maybe these are the mass produced models, they use cheaper metal to produce them faster...because I believe Arnold was made to go on a special mission or something.
- IllBeBack, on 07/18/2008, -1/+17Ha - you people and your reality!
- diggB, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Fiction is fine by me, but so long as it is consistent within the universe created by the author. So, when they show Arnuld in T2 brushing off thousands of rounds fired on him, I was a bit skeptical that a single round to the head would really bother the terminator as shown in the new image. However, as @Memitim pointed out, they are probably not using the same rounds as they had back in T2.

Hmm, then once they figure that out in the plot, the rest of the movie will be the human resistance kneeing the terminators in the crotch... O_o - tedrock, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1i'd pay to see that

http://www.heckler-koch.de/HKWebText/detailProd/19 ...- AllEvil669, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5It is indeed a HK416. It is using a standard 6-position stock as opposed to the crane-style 6-position stock though. I'ts probably a movie mock-up weapon.
- sonick, on 07/18/2008, -3/+20NO WAY, R U SERIOUS?! U MEAN THEY DON'T USE REAL GUNS WHEN SHOOTING MOVIES???
- roryk27, on 07/18/2008, -3/+1OMG! TOTALLY! HEL YEA WE R SRIUS
- Memitim, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Actually they usually use real weapons, although they typically take liberties in sci-fi movies. Hence how Brandon Lee could take a real bullet during the filming of The Crow. A stock replacement is trivial.
- woobyluv, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6Indeed, far superior to M16 series. I like the HK417 though, I like the larger round. :)
- hawridger, on 07/18/2008, -4/+1The HK416 still fires a 5.56 round - no better than a M16/M4/etc. . . .particularly at that range.
- sovietninja, on 07/19/2008, -0/+5@hawridger
Yeah, but in the future everything is dirty so they can't have their weapons jamming when 2 tons of steel death are about to give u surprise buttsezcks. Also in the future 5.56 round is actually a nanobot which diggs through armor and kills u by eating ur brainz.
And the OC was referring to the HK417 which uses 7.62mm round like the M14, AK-47, and the SCAR-H, amongst other weapons. - asdffdas1234, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3@hawridger
It's a weapon that was designed to succeed M4 and M16, go figure.
Just look it up, it's a collaboration project between US Army’s Delta Force and the German arms makers to make a more reliable M4 and M16 replacement. So it is indeed a well researched choice for a movie with near future setting. - Black6x, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3Actually, teh best part is the move away from direct gas impingement to cycle the weapon, and to a gas-piston setup. Les carbon buildup, less lubrication needed, less chance of a malfunction.

- deaftly, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5was ***** awesome
- jstancom, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Yeah...I discovered Christian Bale when American Psycho came out. I loved the way he did the character of Patrick Bateman. I watched the movie multiple times and I'm currently reading the book. Then The Machinist came out where he was skinny and weak, then onto Batman, where he beefed up again. He is the most dedicated actor in Hollywood.
I would actually have people over to my house in high school, particularly girls, to watch American Psycho. If they hated it, I basically yelled at them, because Christian Bale is amazing. I said in 2001...watch out, he's gonna be huge. Now he is.
If it weren't for him, I would have never gone to the movies in the past 5 years.- sovietninja, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2And you also wouldn't be single.

- sovietninja, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2And you also wouldn't be single.
- alexanEmpire, on 07/18/2008, -0/+16So far this movie looks bad ass. It would be cool if there were scenes of the concentration camps that we heard of in the first Terminator.
- OSuX, on 07/18/2008, -9/+3***** Batman, John Connor will bust a cap directly in Batmans face and then teabag him x3. I can't wait till this is released.

- OSuX, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Look, a terminator would be like "pew pew pew" and Batman would be like "oh, I died of explosion poisoning." and that would be it. John Connor eats terminators for breakfast, he is hardcore, like Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris put together.
- Wartz, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1@ OSuX, we havent seen john connor be awesome yet. First we saw him be a rebellious little brat. Then we saw him be a scrawny guy who is somewhat of a coward. - Boswelox, on 07/18/2008, -7/+1Bale's character dies at the end and the Marcus character wears his skin for the next two movies, which I'd have to say sounds fairly poor...what do expect from the director of Charlie's Angels.
ps spread this around the internet, so they do the right thing and change the terrible ending - magneteye, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3"Jingle all the way to the bank!" - Phil Hartman
- diadem2, on 07/18/2008, -5/+8Killing John Connor does more than just stop the resistance, it creates a new timeline.
His very existence is impossible in an original timeline. The reason for this is that he sent someone back in time who became his father. In the original timeline, he wouldn't have existed to do so. This means that there were time loops before now that spawned a series of events to create the original John Connor. This most likely involved John Connor's father traveling back in time for a reason independent of John and still meeting his mother. After an unknown amount if iterations, the John Connor from the first movie eventually appears.
The John Connor in Terminator 1 is one of the biggest causes of Judgment Day, as the technology from a future terminator helped accelerate development of Skynet.
If John Connor dies, what happens? Does the world reset to the "start point" and have the whole shebang happen again? Does the loop reach an endpoint if no further timetravel happens and allow complete domination of machines? Does nothing of relevance happen as someone else time travels for another reason making this whole chain of events a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things...?- sfcaptainrob, on 07/18/2008, -3/+10Wow, it's just a movie. Chill.
- DevilInPgh, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4It also happens to be a serious philosophical mindf*ck.
- CloseYetFar, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7Whenever time travel is involved in a story line. That story line almost always becomes logically impossible. This also makes it impossible to follow that story line correctly. That's why time travel happens in movies and not in real life.
Whether time travel can occur in real life is a tough question. Time it's self is mostly seen to exist as a logical entity, and not as a physical one.- diadem2, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4If you say it's impossible to follow time travel in movies, you obviously haven't watched Twelve Monkies :)
- budgetguitar, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1As long as they don't travel back in time before the time machine was built, they should be OK. And stay away from that big sideways gear that says "current island position" on it...
