Personally, I thought the character development was labored and painful, and even while I enjoyed the action sequences...that whole middle 45 was too much for me.

        At the same time, it would seem that's the minority opinion, and I've talked to a number of people who loved it so hey, whatever.

Much of the visual effects used in the movie were outstanding. I would say it would be worth the matinee price in theaters, but definitely not a night showing.

Most of the audience stuck it out through the creds, and there were some great crowd reactions. I'd definitely say this was easily the best film I've seen this year and gave it a 10 and an A+ on IMDb and Yahoo!Movies. I include Iron Man.
      I used to review movies for a living, and I don't award that highly, that often.

        The princess. If she had given Hellboy and co. her piece of the crown as opposed to demanding that she stay with it (something that she abandons a few scenes later) then they could have hidden the piece and the Golden Army would have never been awakened.

        And what do you mean "which she?" The only "she" who ever touched any piece of the crown. I'm convinced. I am the only person in the world who actually saw this movie.

  • cappa1983, on 07/12/2008, -4/+2I think the general assumption was that since Del Toro was to direct the movie, this would elevate the movie to a new level, and hopefully attract more people... but i think the movie took a turn for the worse... the acting was okay... and the plot was horribly thought out -- and greatly affected the stunning visuals as well. See it in the afternoon, not the night.

    Selma Blair looked great in the movie btw.

I myself have fond memories of the eye plucking arachnid woman on Farscape for some reason. As far as this movie I think I like Nuala (Anna Walton) slightly better in character than her every day attire.

      I went to see the movie just for the creature designs. I think the art team did an AMAZING job, some of the best designs ive seen in awhile. Id actually like to see sketches and such.

Beautiful costumes and set design, as well, and some really, REALLY stunning special effects. It definitely has the Del Toro visual touch. Go see it -- I'm actually surprised at the digg consensus, for once.
