If Sh_t Got "The Love Guru" On It, Sh_t Would Wipe It Off

aintitcool.com — Unbelievably unspeakably awful. THE LOVE GURU is astonishingly rancid. There's a part of me, that wants THE LOVE GURU to make like 75 Million opening weekend. Why? So that the entire - giant film going audience marks Mike Myers' death as a comedian.

        He did say it was "brilliant," and I have to agree with him. I really enjoyed that film when I saw it on video. This was a bit before AP but after the WW movies. I never saw them, so I wasn't hyped up on Meyers.

        And after watching AP3, you can't seriously tell me that AP1 doesn't constitute the "good old days." AP1 was hilarious and original. AP3 was yet another awful retread of the original material.

      This Mike Myers rant and Love Guru is exactly why Idiocracy was such an awesome, underrated movie. We laugh because of the social commentary, the kids these days don't laugh because they are still just smart enough to know that the movie is making fun of THEM.

Love Guru looks horrible and the Shrek movies sucked. Last funny thing I remember from him where the Austin Powers movies. I hated those at first, but they grew on me. I still believe he's a very funny person. Just watch recent interviews with him and he's hilarious. His interview on The Daily Show was pretty funny, too bad he's not like that in his movies anymore.

It went from a somewhat clever satire with coherently hilarious characters to just pure junk with characters that aren't funny at all if you give it an ounce of thought who make jokes so one sided and superficially stupid it's insulting those that laugh at them. The last one was only a step better than 'Meet the Spartans', and that isn't saying much. I'm afraid of what the 4th one will bring if it's made--probably it will be made.

      If I had to write an essay and explain the author's intention, I'd have no ***** clue what to write...Does he want us to watch the movie ourselves so we see just how bad it is, or does he want to convince us not to watch it?
      I could only guess it's the latter, because the review is anything but convincing...

I suspect the only reason he's giving this a bad review is that he wants to jump on the bandwagon with all the other reviewers who are doing so. I mean, he's still burned after giving good reviews to atrocious movies that everyone else hated - it's easy for film makers to get a good review out of Knowles, just send him a bunch of merchandise. That's it. Oh, and that oscar prediction debacle. What a *****.

    I've no doubt that The Love Guru is *****, but I sure as hell wouldn't take Knowles' word for it.

      If 'The Love Guru' was Mike Myers' first movie, it would be a sleeper, because no one would have seen him coming. And they would have loved it.

      However, Mike's humor is going on like what, seven movies?
      It's just like Jerry Lewis of Elvis movies. After a certain point, you've done all you can.

      People who say LoTR was a good series of movies love the books and the genre.
      People who say LoTR was bad, are judging it from a film structure and story perspective, and never got excited when they saw Gandolf on screen.

      If you've never read the books, or don't like elves, it's a hot ghetto mess.
      As I'm just not a fan of the whole fantasy genre, I just don't get excited about seeing a trebuchet sling a giant stone into a mass of orcs while someone rides a dragon.
      ... as I am not a fantasy lover, I kept saying to myself, "let's try to keep a schedule here, people!"

        - It had a good plot with no holes, something absent from most movies today.
        - Good characters with good interaction amongst them
        - Great effects without overwhelming the scenes
        - GREAT cinematography
        - Good music score

He's a ridiculously dramatic critic. He treats every single movie going trip as a life changing experience. It can be, I'm not saying that it can't, but it's a seldom occasion that's wonderful once it happens, and not every movie can ever be expected to deliver this.
    Mark the death of Mike Myers as comedian? Harsh, and completely unfair. I'm sure it's a bad movie, the trailers put me off, but I'm sure Myers has better material in him.

Oh, legs behind the head trick. Sort of like goldmember, but a small golden nut probably won't pop out. Bad accent? yeah, but still... wait no, this IS austin powers only without austin powers. Just mike Myers cashing in on the popularity of the AP movies. That sucks. Oh, well mabye Austin Powers 4 won't suck.

He just goes on and on why the movie is so horrible without even mentioning anything what the movie is about and other basic stuff you would expect out of an review. I read another review by Harry Knowles where the whole review was about how fun he and all the celebrities he namedropped had when they attended to the movie. Maybe that's the whole point with "Ain't it cool news", I don't know.

The trailer doesn't do the movie any justice. Sorry it's not Oscar material for all the hardcore movie critics. If you got a sense of humor, give it a chance.

    All comedians can't be everything to everybody.
    And they have a shelf life before the novelty of their style of humor wears off.
    Look at most comedians, they have at best a ten year cycle before they become a joke of themselves.

    Simply put, it's not Mike Myers fault. He's still funny. You've been overexposed to all of his original jokes. And to reinvent yourself in comedy, you have to reinvent yourself, all the way through, and that's almost impossible for something as subtle as comedy.

    Mike Myers was funny in the past, and because no one can be unpredictable and funny forever, his shelf life has run out.
    It's as natural as not laughing at Jerry Lewis, because you grew up on it. It's the baseline for humor.

It wasn't a slow decline, it was a ***** train wreck. He was lazy and had made enough money from AP (not to mention WW) to avoid having anyone in charge who could tell him he needed to work harder.

"Managing to Godwin himself in the second paragraph, he goes on to needlessly explain that a Mike Myers movie is not as bad as the Holocaust, then absurdly states that nothing could be as bad as the Holocaust. Really? How about two Holocausts? How about Love Guru 2? Why are you such a terrible writer??"

  • Defuser, on 06/21/2008, -4/+9Did you catch Myers on the Daily Show? He literally seemed drugged to the point of catatonia. Jon Stewart looked more uncomfortable than I've seen him in years. Myers wouldn't sit down, and then stared blankly past the camera, making disjointed comments that seemed totally random and unrelated to each other. I like the guy's movies... hell, I think I own everyone he's ever made... but there's something wrong with him.

He was coherent, looked at the audience, not the cameras, and answered Jon's questions. Not sure why people seem to agree with you...maybe I'm just blissfully oblivious.

Getting kicked in the groin? Getting punched in the groin by a midget? Stereotypes of the province Quebec? The only funny thing about this film is the Toronto Maple Leafs winning. The rest, UGH.

    Movies like this, seem to take the same route as companies like EA. Make something awful, that will appeal to a specific breed of human, and laugh while looking at the 3-4 comma cheque.
