If Sh_t Got "The Love Guru" On It, Sh_t Would Wipe It Off
aintitcool.com — Unbelievably unspeakably awful. THE LOVE GURU is astonishingly rancid. There's a part of me, that wants THE LOVE GURU to make like 75 Million opening weekend. Why? So that the entire - giant film going audience marks Mike Myers' death as a comedian.

- davincih, on 06/20/2008, -16/+339The Love Guru is awful, but I'm starting to subscribe to the notion that it's our fault, not Mike Myers.

- CrimsonBlur, on 06/21/2008, -2/+33That is exactly who the author is referring to in the link davincih posted. It's really quite depressing/frustrating.

- cerealjynx, on 06/21/2008, -1/+10Meet The Spartans is the first movie I had to actually turn off within 20 minutes. I don't think I've ever done that before.
- ThinkBox, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3Start.
And then demand your money back - that is the way to send a message... theaters report that back to the studios, and the studios think long and hard about that before they make another film.

- cjshamrock, on 06/21/2008, -10/+1Shut yo face. Meet The Spartans is great.
But Mike Myers stopped being funny by the second Austin Powers movie- N0153T4NK, on 06/21/2008, -1/+5I think it's time for you to go back to MySpace.
- BoneheadFarker, on 06/21/2008, -0/+8Sorry, but they had to hire someone to play Dane Cook because the real Dane Cook had higher standards. That says a lot...
- sanman, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1I blame society. Let's create a new tax to subsidize those suffering from a poverty of script ideas.
- CrimsonBlur, on 06/21/2008, -9/+54This article should be shared with all the world. Sure, the author is a complete pompous ass and couldn't have possibly been more condescending, but that doesn't mean he's not right. He hit the nail on the head. I love all of the pop-culture insults he threw in just for good measure.
- narcofiche, on 06/21/2008, -8/+5Yeah, a good way NOT to build up your readership is to immediately make fun of potential readers. Writing like this also gives people with similar interests the OK to behave like this. He did have a good point, though, but had he written something a little different then maybe one of these 'Meet the Spartans' people would have actually listened.
- Donoram, on 06/21/2008, -5/+5I definitely do not agree. This guy's article is basically *****. It's no review, it's an ass hole's comment. It's like he's trolling his own damn site. I'll never respect any opinion from ain't it cool again. I haven't sen the love guru and I'm not defending it, but this article is a no back-up ***** piece.
- coheedcollapse, on 06/21/2008, -0/+6Yeah. It completely didn't work for Maddox..
The author is not making fun of potential readers, he's making fun of the people that the potential readers would make fun of, therefore building readership in people with like interests. - narcofiche, on 06/21/2008, -1/+4But Maddox is funny, this guy isn't.
- kpwells, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3So did you get the barb wire tattoos on your biceps to make them look bigger and tougher, or is it just how badass it makes you look?
- xtraa, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1@narcofiche:
A good way NOT to built up your readership is
- to be so insignificant that no one cares,
- but still everyone recognizes that you only have the guts for a lame mainstream point of view.
Aa-and, thats exactly a part of the context from the article you just read, @Donoram.
- warplayer, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2Sounds like you haven't read much Harry Knowles.

- senatorpjt, on 06/21/2008, -1/+20That article is a hell of a lot better than the one in the topic. I suppose I'll digg this just so people end up reading that.

"We like pretty much the same things, but you like them because you're stupid and I like them because I'm better than you." - LemonDefragger, on 06/21/2008, -8/+27Yeah, it sounds like comedy elitist kool-aid with a pinch of "get off the lawn" ageist bullcrap. If Mike Myers was a true artist he wouldn't be able to be swayed by the invisible influence of idiotic teens. Really, this is as self-indulgent as it can get. Perfect for digg.

- Goldbricker, on 06/21/2008, -2/+34Holy ***** is that guy taken with himself.
- lostarchitect, on 06/21/2008, -17/+5I was kind of with him until he held up "Clerks" as a shining example of what comedy should be. That movie is totally unfunny and just plain stupid.
- organdonersteve, on 06/21/2008, -4/+5you must have never worked in a gas station or a video store, or really as any kind of clerk.
i have never met anyone that has worked a job similar to the ones in clerks that didnt love it. although clerks 2 was bad.- lostarchitect, on 06/21/2008, -2/+3I have, actually, in a toy store and later a video store. I dunno, man. A lot of people like the movie, but i just didn't laugh at all. In fact, I don't like any of that guy's movies. All his stuff feels really forced, like noone involved even thought it was funny, but they were just going through the motions. and the acting quality doesn't help.
- KiSA, on 06/21/2008, -2/+3I loved Clerks and pretty much everything else Smith made up until J&SBSB. What I believe the article is about is there being a level of honesty in the production.
Everything these days has been dumbed down to the lowest common denominator and it has become absurdly stupid (as opposed to simply absurd)- MacEnvy, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3The interesting thing about J&SBSB is that it suffers from exactly the same problem as The Love Guru - it's a mass-produced, assembly-line 2 hours of dick jokes and weed humor, and represented the moment when Kevin Smith died as a creative force in film.
The Love Guru : Mike Myers :: J&SBSB : Kevin Smith
- MacEnvy, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3The interesting thing about J&SBSB is that it suffers from exactly the same problem as The Love Guru - it's a mass-produced, assembly-line 2 hours of dick jokes and weed humor, and represented the moment when Kevin Smith died as a creative force in film.

- rentmitchum, on 06/21/2008, -10/+5That was amazing. I came.
- MasterGrief, on 06/21/2008, -0/+7And I, not at all
- rentmitchum, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1lol I just don't understand digg sometimes.. you +5, me -2. Like one time I referenced a Smashing Pumpkins song, then the reply was "+1 for smashing pumpkins. That guy got like +10 and I got like +2.. strange strange strange.
- MasterGrief, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it, but I think the reason why you ended up with less was that you told everyone that you had ejaculated, something I doubt most want to hear. It's like saying something tastes so good you feel like you might "cream yourself". It's just unpleasant.
- rentmitchum, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Fair enough. I'm not trying to be popular, I try to understand parts of the psychology behind every digg comment I make and every reply.
- MasterGrief, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Oh... Good. :D
- MasterGrief, on 06/21/2008, -0/+7And I, not at all
- scottja35, on 06/21/2008, -1/+6The arguments contained within that article are less than compelling. He loses his mark when he tries to identify the comedy that appeals to the lowest common denominator, yet fails to separate himself from the same constraints. I believe that I laughed at "get in my belly" just as hard as I laughed at the "drugs/ham sandwich" line. Either way you slice it, it's still just Austin Powers.
- kingUssop, on 06/21/2008, -2/+5Well put. The cellphone generation was born of Britney Spears being seen as "mature" and a "celebrity." I'm sorry for the kinds of things those kids see as culturally relevant. It's not *all* their fault, there's some very bright kids stuck in a nightmare I'm sure.
- Peynis, on 06/21/2008, -8/+2"So, you go see absolute ***** like Austin Powers III, where you can just stare at the screen and chortle along with the rest of the proletariat when Mike Myers uses the phrase “shag.”"
Man, that guy needs to lay off the cocaine, at least while writing his articles- mimigins, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1AP3 was terrible.
- moraldebate, on 06/21/2008, -0/+9If anyone, anywhere, would've caught you saying the "So I Married An Axe Murderer" is a masterpiece when it actually came out, they'd have called you a stupid uneducated fool. Mike Myers did used to be funnier, but don't make it seem like these films were anything more than just pretty good.
To quote Kurt Vonnegut, "There were never any good old days. Never."- illegalcortex, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3And since the author never called SIMAAM a "masterpiece", then I guess there's no issue, right?
He did say it was "brilliant," and I have to agree with him. I really enjoyed that film when I saw it on video. This was a bit before AP but after the WW movies. I never saw them, so I wasn't hyped up on Meyers.
And after watching AP3, you can't seriously tell me that AP1 doesn't constitute the "good old days." AP1 was hilarious and original. AP3 was yet another awful retread of the original material.
- illegalcortex, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3And since the author never called SIMAAM a "masterpiece", then I guess there's no issue, right?
- TecK415, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1I am proud to say I am not in this category. But it is sad that so many people are. Really, what ever makes you happy is what you should do though. If they're happy with their Chinese tattoo's and mtv, and meet the Spartans. Then go for it if you're enjoying your life... Even if it makes you look like a douche.
- TecK415, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1It wouldn't let me edit my comment.
Even with saying that, I think it's way worse to be arrogant, which is what the author of this article is. I couldn't even read through the whole story because he came off as such an arrogant douche bag. OK I get it, you think you are better that everyone else. Stop judging other peoples lives and start looking at your own. - 0xABADC0DA, on 06/21/2008, -0/+7Not Sure: "great films, with plots! Where you cared about whose ass it was, and why it was farting!"
This Mike Myers rant and Love Guru is exactly why Idiocracy was such an awesome, underrated movie. We laugh because of the social commentary, the kids these days don't laugh because they are still just smart enough to know that the movie is making fun of THEM.- poke53281, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1I love Idiocracy. That line at the end of the film cracks me up everytime. "Ow my balls" is the natural evolutionary descendant of "$COUNTRY's funniest home videos".
- MrNeom, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3The generation before probably said the same thing . . .
- Efflux, on 06/21/2008, -1/+143I blame the "Meet The Spartans" crowd and their ilk.
- Berkana, on 06/21/2008, -22/+10Dugg for the title.
- Falldog, on 06/21/2008, -0/+24Buried for the title. Just say "*****" for ***** sake.
- whatthefu, on 06/21/2008, -12/+6Harry uses way too many hyphens.
- elnerdo, on 06/21/2008, -0/+10I personally subscribe to the you-can-never-use-too-many-hyphens school of thought.
- AzureRise, on 06/21/2008, -19/+10Mike Myers is still hilarious. He just happened to star in a horrible movie. I don't find anything he's done in the last couple years interesting. Love Guru looks horrible and the Shrek movies sucked. Last funny thing I remember from him where the Austin Powers movies. I hated those at first, but they grew on me. I still believe he's a very funny person. Just watch recent interviews with him and he's hilarious. His interview on The Daily Show was pretty funny, too bad he's not like that in his movies anymore.
- Efflux, on 06/21/2008, -1/+6Yeah Mike Myers is funny. It's just his recent movies that are bad. "I Married an Axe Murderer" was great. Some of his older stuff are just awesome. But this new one looked like Austin Powers with out Austin Powers in it.
- MatthewDuke, on 06/21/2008, -2/+13I'm sorry, he's not funny anymore at all. I was a huge fan starting with SNL and up through the first and second Austin Powers, but Goldmember and beyond are so bad. Even in his interviews, all his little quips and "funny" retorts are canned and not funny. I don't think he even has his own personality anymore, just those lame automatic responses and standard faces he makes.
- mdcraig62, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3so is Mike Myers the Robin Williams of this age? Someone who does not know how to 'turn off' and will not get that you should read the script first, before you do the movie?
- squarepegs, on 06/21/2008, -0/+6Did you say he just "happened" to star in a bad movie? Are you aware that he wrote it and produced it, in addition to playing the title role? That means this movie is more Mike Meyers than his old, great movies like "So I Married an Axe Murderer", which he neither wrote nor produced.
- AzureRise, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Didn't know he wrote and produced it. Damn that's lame.
- kinseyincanada, on 06/21/2008, -4/+86so its bad then?
- TheWorm, on 06/21/2008, -0/+10No matter how bad the movie was this was a pretty poorly written review.
- tjrecord, on 06/21/2008, -2/+1was the title supposed to be witty? funny? it doesn't really make sense to me.
- AshamedAmerican, on 06/21/2008, -4/+362This title would've made me laugh but the lame censoring just made me roll my eyes.
- w00kiekrisp, on 06/21/2008, -0/+31yeah, ***** censors

I'm not clear. Did you like it? - steveoco, on 06/21/2008, -16/+8"People had to survive the Holocaust to hold those responsible, responsible. This film isn't as bad as the Holocaust. Nothing could be. But in the realm of film going experiences - it's a third trimester abortion. It is a pregnant woman smoking a cigarette and drinking a Coors Light." Ummm I guess he didn't like it...
- PeterBWiggin, on 06/21/2008, -17/+4Mike myers had a life as a comedian?
- yaosaiming, on 06/21/2008, -9/+0Those damn Fox bloodseason ads are starting to piss me off.....The sounds are incredibly annoying
- alexforcefive, on 06/21/2008, -1/+10This is where we all say "ads? What ads?"
and then you say "some people are at WORK you know"
and then someone else says "why are you on digg at work?"
and then someone else says "why are you at work on a saturday?"
and then someone else says "that's what SHE said!" and gets buried to *****
- alexforcefive, on 06/21/2008, -1/+10This is where we all say "ads? What ads?"
- mugicha, on 06/21/2008, -8/+18He was actually pretty funny on American Idol recently. But I'm not surprised to hear this movie sucks. He seems to have lost his mojo in the last couple of years.
- ohmahgawd, on 06/21/2008, -1/+9He lost it during the Austin Powers movies. Just watch all three in succession if you can. It went from a somewhat clever satire with coherently hilarious characters to just pure junk with characters that aren't funny at all if you give it an ounce of thought who make jokes so one sided and superficially stupid it's insulting those that laugh at them. The last one was only a step better than 'Meet the Spartans', and that isn't saying much. I'm afraid of what the 4th one will bring if it's made--probably it will be made.
- lawngnomes4pres, on 06/21/2008, -1/+7what were you doing watching american idol...?
- NaziHatinChimp, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3He was on American Idol. That's another nail.
- warplayer, on 06/21/2008, -1/+2Yeah I saw that American Idol appearance, and I was busting up. It actually made me sort of hopeful for the movie, but then weeks and weeks of incessant advertising has really turned me off. Pass.
- JoshVanDanger, on 06/21/2008, -1/+161After watching the trailers, is anyone really surprised? I like Mike Meyers, but "The Love Guru" is just a bunch of recycled "Austin Powers" jokes. They should have called it "Wink at the Camera: The Movie."
- iKomplex, on 06/21/2008, -15/+3So let me get this straight, you knew it already sucked by just watching a 30-second trailer?
- TheRedNewt, on 06/21/2008, -0/+11Honestly, it's not that difficult to spot a stinker for this style of comedy. It's become pretty easy to spot the class of comedy that this falls into and know where it falls on the spectrum of "good." Not to mention that these trailers typically try to incorporate the funniest bits, and the trailer failed to ever even show the PROMISE of a funny moment.
- danwallace, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3Is that so hard to believe? I can almost always call a ***** movie from the trailer.
- divinesrrow, on 06/21/2008, -0/+19Yes, yes I did know it sucked by watching that horrid 30-second trailer.
- iKomplex, on 06/21/2008, -15/+3So let me get this straight, you knew it already sucked by just watching a 30-second trailer?
- Spanq, on 06/21/2008, -11/+107Holy *****, this review is completely bereft of humor and imagination. Yeah, the movie sucked, but so does your attempt at firing enough brain synapses to coherently express that opinion.
- rgodfrey, on 06/21/2008, -1/+11Agreed. Just like every few years we need to be reminded that Mike Myers is still out there making terrible movies, it's good every few years to click on a link to aintitcool and remember that Harry Knowles is still out there writing terrible movie reviews.
- Peynis, on 06/21/2008, -1/+8I've actually just heard about the movie and haven't even seen the trailer yet (most likely because I'm from outside the US), and that review completely fails to actually explain why the movie is bad...
After reading the review, all I know is that the movie is supposed to be bad according to some megalomanic *****, and that's it...
If I had to write an essay and explain the author's intention, I'd have no ***** clue what to write...Does he want us to watch the movie ourselves so we see just how bad it is, or does he want to convince us not to watch it?
I could only guess it's the latter, because the review is anything but convincing...
Thanks for wasting my time, Harry, whoever the ***** you may be anyway.- TruGrave, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1I think I now love Peynis.

- Wartyboskfapped, on 06/21/2008, -10/+31We're taking Harry Knowles seriously? Honestly, the guy wouldn't know a good screenplay if it was tattooed on the end of his prick. I suspect the only reason he's giving this a bad review is that he wants to jump on the bandwagon with all the other reviewers who are doing so. I mean, he's still burned after giving good reviews to atrocious movies that everyone else hated - it's easy for film makers to get a good review out of Knowles, just send him a bunch of merchandise. That's it. Oh, and that oscar prediction debacle. What a *****.
I've no doubt that The Love Guru is *****, but I sure as hell wouldn't take Knowles' word for it.- shadowman99, on 06/21/2008, -0/+8Are you making fun of Harry? C'mon, just because he cried at the end of Armageddon and thinks Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer are great filmmakers?

Mike Myers is a great comedian, you just have to like his style, that's all. You can't love everyone, but that does not make them s...
- stockjones, on 06/21/2008, -6/+8I like Mike Meyers. The guy can do some hilarious characters but from what I've seen he's re-hashing a bit too much from Austin Powers in this movie. Cant be any worse then some of the recent stink on SNL these days. I mean Andy Samberg is suppose to be funny?
- Asheis, on 06/21/2008, -1/+2He's funny in a different way...
This iteration of SNL is taking a page in a very big way from advertising nowadays. To be funny it has to be totally random, stupid, and not make any sense. I'll admit, some of this is funny, but sometimes it just seems like they try too hard. - TheCamino, on 06/21/2008, -1/+3 Andy Sandberg is MORE of "the funny" right now because he's new.
There will be a time where everybody knows what Andy is going to do, and when they realize it, it won't be surprising and funny anymore. That's what happened to Mike Myers. After all the Shrek movies, Austin Powers, and all the other stuff, people can do Mike Myers better than Mike can. It's all about overexposure.
If 'The Love Guru' was Mike Myers' first movie, it would be a sleeper, because no one would have seen him coming. And they would have loved it.
However, Mike's humor is going on like what, seven movies?
It's just like Jerry Lewis of Elvis movies. After a certain point, you've done all you can.

- bubba9999, on 06/21/2008, -1/+17I'm guessing that the studio didn't send Jessica Alba over to stroke Harry's, um, ego?
- hellsing47, on 06/21/2008, -0/+5You mean his penis?
- sfacets, on 06/21/2008, -8/+3If it makes the opening with a profit, then the masses (AKA proles AKA consumers) will just applaud it and it will possibly be nominated for an Oscar.
- Portachking, on 06/21/2008, -1/+4What?
- TheLoneHoot, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2I get what he's saying...
...if it does well at the box office (somehow), then audiences will say it's funny, and it'll (possibly, okay remote possibility) get some sort of award nod (somewhere, kids' choice?)...
...however, according to this review, all of that is ridiculously remote at best.
My barometer? If they keep showing the same 4 scenes from a trailer on TV, and ONLY those 4 scenes, and those 4 scenes are horribly lame, then yeah, it's gonna suck.
- TheLoneHoot, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2I get what he's saying...

- bovox, on 06/21/2008, -14/+4Why would anyone believe this guy? I was looking through his archives and he thinks that Lord of the Rings was a good movie.
- StandardsDT, on 06/21/2008, -2/+9He may have claimed a lot of bad movies good. But Lord of the Rings was a good movie, which is probably the only thing everyone can agree on with him.
How you think Lord of the Rings was a bad movie I have no idea. Last I recall the series did really well and even my friends who are big movie buffs, have taken film classes, etc loved it. - punkcat, on 06/21/2008, -3/+2the guy likes just about everything, for him to claim something as ***** it must be truly awful.
- TheCamino, on 06/21/2008, -2/+5
People who say LoTR was a good series of movies love the books and the genre.
People who say LoTR was bad, are judging it from a film structure and story perspective, and never got excited when they saw Gandolf on screen.
If you've never read the books, or don't like elves, it's a hot ghetto mess.
As I'm just not a fan of the whole fantasy genre, I just don't get excited about seeing a trebuchet sling a giant stone into a mass of orcs while someone rides a dragon.
... as I am not a fantasy lover, I kept saying to myself, "let's try to keep a schedule here, people!"- TheLoneHoot, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2Like you, I'm not a huge fan of the fantasy genre (although I like _some_ of it), but LoTR was worthy to me for a couple of reasons:
- It had a good plot with no holes, something absent from most movies today.
- Good characters with good interaction amongst them
- Great effects without overwhelming the scenes
- GREAT cinematography
- Good music score
- TheLoneHoot, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2Like you, I'm not a huge fan of the fantasy genre (although I like _some_ of it), but LoTR was worthy to me for a couple of reasons:
- gquaglia, on 06/21/2008, -1/+1Because I've seen the trailer too and the movie looks god awful.
- StandardsDT, on 06/21/2008, -2/+9He may have claimed a lot of bad movies good. But Lord of the Rings was a good movie, which is probably the only thing everyone can agree on with him.
- Portachking, on 06/21/2008, -2/+17As much as I have a distaste for Mike Myers more recent work (still really admire Wayne's World and Austin Powers), I cannot stand Harry Knowles. He's a ridiculously dramatic critic. He treats every single movie going trip as a life changing experience. It can be, I'm not saying that it can't, but it's a seldom occasion that's wonderful once it happens, and not every movie can ever be expected to deliver this.
Mark the death of Mike Myers as comedian? Harsh, and completely unfair. I'm sure it's a bad movie, the trailers put me off, but I'm sure Myers has better material in him. - charbo187, on 06/21/2008, -4/+32was it worse than the Zohan movie?
- ethornquist, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2yes . . . i streamed it but couldn't get through the first two parts . . . much much worse than the Zohan
- mdmiamifl, on 06/23/2008, -0/+0The Zohan was actually really funny.

- Joeyrev, on 06/21/2008, -3/+57I wonder if watching The Love Guru is as painful as reading that article.
- BobCock, on 06/21/2008, -2/+35i can't stand the way Harry writes...
- btschul, on 06/21/2008, -0/+9The instant I saw the trailer, I knew this would be *****. Oh, hey, there's verne troyer. thats fine. Oh, midget jokes. thats not too bad. Oh, legs behind the head trick. Sort of like goldmember, but a small golden nut probably won't pop out. Bad accent? yeah, but still... wait no, this IS austin powers only without austin powers. Just mike Myers cashing in on the popularity of the AP movies. That sucks. Oh, well mabye Austin Powers 4 won't suck.
- eliburford, on 06/21/2008, -1/+7Couldn't make sense of the title or description. Who shoot who in the what now?
- thodah, on 06/21/2008, -1/+4The Love Guru seems pretty bad after watching the trailer, but this review wasn't that good either. He just goes on and on why the movie is so horrible without even mentioning anything what the movie is about and other basic stuff you would expect out of an review. I read another review by Harry Knowles where the whole review was about how fun he and all the celebrities he namedropped had when they attended to the movie. Maybe that's the whole point with "Ain't it cool news", I don't know.
- PittPanthersFan, on 06/21/2008, -10/+5Jessica Alba is hot.
- Rodman930, on 06/21/2008, -0/+14Jessica Alba is NOT FUNNY.

- Zihuatanejo, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2and yet she stars in so many comedies. What a world.
- jtmitl, on 06/21/2008, -0/+5And that is the only reason Jessica Alba gets cast in movies, my friend.
- ATLien74, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1Hot as hell... but not very funny.
Hmmm, so who's a good hot AND funny chick they could have cast? Anna Faris maybe?
From the reviews, it sounds like not even a cameo of the Hulk and Iron Man could have saved this movie. - S4MF1SHER, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1That may be so, but name one good movie she has been in...
- gquaglia, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1And she has herpes and a kid.
- Rodman930, on 06/21/2008, -0/+14Jessica Alba is NOT FUNNY.
- laelyboy, on 06/21/2008, -10/+5I saw a sneak preview of the movie Wednesday night. I thought it was hilarious. Told some friends about the movie and now they want to see it. The trailer doesn't do the movie any justice. Sorry it's not Oscar material for all the hardcore movie critics. If you got a sense of humor, give it a chance.
- btraxx, on 06/21/2008, -0/+10Stop being so harsh on him, Verne Troyer needs to make a living too.
- mrallen86, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2I just hope that living includes more of him getting smashed on 'Surreal Life'.

All comedians can't be everything to everybody.
And they have a shelf life before the novelty of their style of humor wears off.
Look at most comedians, they have at best a ten year cycle before they become a joke of themselves.
Simply put, it's not Mike Myers fault. He's still funny. You've been overexposed to all of his original jokes. And to reinvent yourself in comedy, you have to reinvent yourself, all the way through, and that's almost impossible for something as subtle as comedy.
Mike Myers was funny in the past, and because no one can be unpredictable and funny forever, his shelf life has run out.
It's as natural as not laughing at Jerry Lewis, because you grew up on it. It's the baseline for humor.- illegalcortex, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1That might be true, if it wasn't for the fact that he followed the hilarious AP1 with a complete re-hash of all the funny bits in AP2. It wasn't a slow decline, it was a ***** train wreck. He was lazy and had made enough money from AP (not to mention WW) to avoid having anyone in charge who could tell him he needed to work harder.
- rootsm3, on 06/21/2008, -4/+3I think if I made the conscious decision to go see "The Love Guru" I would go on a murderous rampage afterwards. Skip dinner, just go out killing innocent people.
- kelder27, on 06/21/2008, -1/+15I'm sure the movie is terrible, but this review was written for a high school newspaper.
- samzero, on 06/21/2008, -0/+7The movie might suck and it might not. One thing I do know --- this review reads like it was written by an eighth grader.
- stealthrocket, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3I think its safe to say this movie sucks.
- zydeco, on 06/21/2008, -7/+2I don't get why every Mike Myers film has to have some kind of Canadian twist for no particular reason. Really, a Stan Mikita donut shop in Chicago in Wayne's World?
- albinorhino101, on 06/21/2008, -0/+11Did any of you actually expect this movie to be good?
- uallsuck, on 06/21/2008, -0/+23All I could think while I was reading that review was how I would go about reviewing his review. "Managing to Godwin himself in the second paragraph, he goes on to needlessly explain that a Mike Myers movie is not as bad as the Holocaust, then absurdly states that nothing could be as bad as the Holocaust. Really? How about two Holocausts? How about Love Guru 2? Why are you such a terrible writer??"

- Defuser, on 06/21/2008, -4/+9Did you catch Myers on the Daily Show? He literally seemed drugged to the point of catatonia. Jon Stewart looked more uncomfortable than I've seen him in years. Myers wouldn't sit down, and then stared blankly past the camera, making disjointed comments that seemed totally random and unrelated to each other. I like the guy's movies... hell, I think I own everyone he's ever made... but there's something wrong with him.
- DAGman27, on 06/21/2008, -1/+5I missed the interview initially, so I had to go back and watch it. Even with what you said in the back of my mind, I couldn't see any of it. He was coherent, looked at the audience, not the cameras, and answered Jon's questions. Not sure why people seem to agree with you...maybe I'm just blissfully oblivious.
- onlines, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2How could nobody have predicted this from the trailers? Thanking the Academy for a fictional award by using a midget? A pillow with a truck backing up sound? Getting kicked in the groin? Getting punched in the groin by a midget? Stereotypes of the province Quebec? The only funny thing about this film is the Toronto Maple Leafs winning. The rest, UGH.
Movies like this, seem to take the same route as companies like EA. Make something awful, that will appeal to a specific breed of human, and laugh while looking at the 3-4 comma cheque. - Zcaithaca, on 06/21/2008, -0/+4of course the movie sucked!!!

The Love Guru is a comedy like the Leafs are a hockey team. (25%)
Best review in a sentence EVER (and I'm a Leafs fan) - runCMD, on 06/21/2008, -0/+4One bad movie marks the end of a comedic career ? LOL.
Do bad reviews mark the end of the reviewer ? : )

- psylence, on 06/21/2008, -2/+20Don't MAKE Austin Powers 4.
- rentmitchum, on 06/21/2008, -1/+4The first one accomplished something. The second was a stretch. The third one hurt.
***** you and your #4. The Love Guru IS Austin Powers 4, he ran out of jokes for Austin so we have a new character. Unfortunately he didn't think of new jokes. Let your catch-phrases go! If they love you, they'll come back to you!
Snoogins. - Syphon8, on 06/21/2008, -1/+2To both of you, it's already confirmed. It's going to be about Dr. Evil...
