Like the inventor of the optical disc, he didn't receive a penny for his invention. The swiffer? Same story. The windshield wiper was chosen specifically because it was mundane and not something you really think about.

      Why does it matter who invented the CD, the swiffer, or the intermittent windshield wiper? It's like Steve Wiebe in King of Kong. It's an average guy with an average life who just wants recognition for the one great thing he ever did. It seems so little and insignificant, but it's what matters to them.

      We are starting to forget something very important as a culture I think... films like this attempt to remind us. Its not to late... we don't have to sell out completely.

    • shto, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah, but that's what half of the movies in Hollywood are about: some small person, a nobody, an underdog that battles against all odds, takes on the biggest challenges (to whom other people would say no, or would give in fast) to prove something, goes through a very difficult period of time fighting and eventually wins. The only whim of originality in this is that it says "Based on a true story" next to the title.

I was not aware that something could get a higher rating for "depictions of tobacco consumption". I bet this movie gets a rating of at least PG for properly depicting that people (in this case REAL people) smoked cigarettes and cigars in the 60's.

    Not saying it's right or wrong... just pointing out how far we've come.

None of them apparently ever considered using a little DC motor to drive the wipers. Nah, far more practical to take a vacuum tap off the manifold. Maybe add a vacuum booster is there's a problem with consistent speed under acceleration. An EE woulda walked in there and started laughing his ass off.

        not true, they need to not offer so many ***** benefits to retirees. They really expect to give out all these benefits to all employees for life.... partially all of the unions part.... but you can't do this and expect to make a lot of money. I think Gm will come back and so will ford, it's just going to be rough and i guess we will have to ride it out. We always do in michigan.

Parts are cheaper to manufacture else where but they all are assembled in or close by to America. Jobs are being cut in America because sales are low. Ford just lost 8.7B in Q2 (mostly in N. America) compared to Europe with a $582m profit. The days of American automobile manufactures getting buy selling trucks are coming to a end. They should focus on building small to medium size cars like they have been doing overseas.

(it is multilayered too. see, the studios producing these movies are one of the megacorps depicted in the movie... maybe this particular movie is an indy movie, which i doubt, but i'm willing to bet you're catching my drift...)
