R-Rated '300' Stampeding Towards $60 Mil Weekend; Record For Biggest March
deadlinehollywooddaily.com — Here come The Spartans! I'm told Warner Bros.' much-buzzed 300 about the ancient Battle of Thermopylae (even though most of target audience fell asleep in school during that history lesson) looks set to shatter the record for biggest March opening ever. This "Gladiator Lite" raked in $27.7 million Friday night.

- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -11/+36Titanic brought in $28,638,131 its opening weekend with 2,674 theaters showing it, that averages out to $10,709.
300's got a big, big challenge of it if it expects to beat Titanic, though, as we've shown, the Spartan's have a pretty good knack for beating out unbelievable odds. :] - bdurkin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29@AndrewDBarker
Titanic's release date was December 19, 1997. Article says "Record For Biggest March Opening Ever". March being a key word here. - bdurkin, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2...
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -4/+2bdurkin: Yeah, I know but I took your statement "I would enjoy seeing this movie taking the title as the top grossing film of all time.." made me think you meant that you'd like to see 300 exceed the $1,845,034,188 total life time gross that Titanic brought in.

- deathlyhallows, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0$60 million wouldn't put it at largest March opening unfortunately. Ice Age 2 managed $68 million last year.
It does have largest opening day outside of summer going for it, though... - satanatnmtedu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Ever heard of a little thing called inflation? "Records" like the biggest box office will continue to be broken because prices go up. Now, if more paid viewers went to see this film than any other in March, then I would call that a true record. Measuring box office with money is lame.
- BGFeltenink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Money can be adjusted for inflation... although I don't know if it has been for the comparison.
- mdhauke, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Am I the only one who is sick of seeing this movie on the front page?

That's gotta hurt! - over90, on 10/12/2007, -23/+29I haven't seen 300 yet because I was banned from my cineplex. We had all lined up in front of the theater for about 30 minutes, and then they brought us in. I had to stand right beside these two fat, horse-faced lesbians eating each others tongues like they were making a political statement or something. So, like 30 minutes later, we end up shuffling in the theater and these ***** bitches start bitching about having to wait when the movie is about to start, mind you, it was 11 and it was a midnight showing. It turns out they were going to see that stupid Jim Carrey movie 23 and they were missing it. So, the ugliest of the two bitches just exclaims like no one's there "This is the wrong ***** movie!" I just had to do what I did next. I shouted at the top of my lungs "This is SPARTA" and kicked her in the chest, causing her to fall down about 8 steps to the floor. Most were shocked, but about 80% of the theater started to cheer, and I was forcibly thrown out by 2 officers. Charges are going to be pressed against me apparently, but it was worth it.

- JimDinger, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13History and physics..
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7This movie didn't stick to history though. It couldn't decide whether it wanted to be Troy or Lord of the Rings, causing you to feel like you were watching two different movies at times; and the dialog was just trash. A race of brutal authoritarian warriors preaching about logic, freedom, and liberty? Give me a break. Fantastic fight scenes however.
- Toast1185, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23The bad part about history is that it gets harder every single day :'(
- nihilite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yeah, history is good but they keep re-writing it =(
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I found that particular history lesson fascinating. It made the movie better too yesterday, because I had a deeper understanding of the movie.
Honestly though, 300 was very cool. But it doesn't deserve to be the top grossing movie of all time. It lacks in plot but it makes it up with style and action. Awesome for as long as the battle scenes will hold your attention, but not very deep. Not quite a cinematic masterpiece. - TapouT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0ahem, P.E.

Hey give them credit where it is due...I usually never go to the movies, but for this one,I am.I feel if they put a really good effort into a movie, they can get my money for a ticket,I won't buy anything at the concession stand. - Atom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Scuv,

- Rethcir, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2No it's not a great movie!! See LOTR, Gladiator and Braveheart - THOSE were great movies, with a good movie plot with good pacing that actually carried on the momentum of the action scenes to dramatic moments instead of coming to an abrupt halt at the end.
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -37/+14Sigh. Too much CG going on thesedays. Frank Miller does a good job (I loved Sin City), but I hope this all-action-no-plot trend doesn't continue to rise.
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -6/+44How is defending a city against an invading army of 100,000-2,000,000 men (estimated) not a plot?!
- random19, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Yeah, I could have told you that was the plot before I went to the movie.
But that doesn't mean I wasn't hoping for a little bit of creative and original spin on the movie's plot. And there was none. The movie was a 2 hour long version of the movie's trailer. - AKBryant54, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"But that doesn't mean I wasn't hoping for a little bit of creative and original spin on the movie's plot."

I think you'll find the plot is there already.
- EuphopiaB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Movie was fun and entertaining, deserves every penny. BTW do people in Sparta just not have body hair?
Definitely noted for the artistic style. A Relief to watch it after all of the same dry directing styles Hollywood pops out.- BGFeltenink, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Typically the more muscular and ripped your body is, the less body hair grows. That's why guys with nasty back hair all over and a woolly mammoth chest are usually the fatter individuals. That said, I'm sure they cleaned up a bit for the movie.
- shutupanddie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sure you can cite a source for your muscle mass to body hair ratio theory. Let's have it.
- dbeaty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if you added a plot you would have all these frank miller fanatics saying "this movie sucked because it wasnt word for word what the commic was, they added stuff to it to intrege me but i want my movie to be exactly like the book, boycot!" i hate people like that and there are lots of them.
- JackQuack, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3@GawtMilk
I loved the CG. It looked perfectly real which is all that matters. And there was a bit of plot. They needed to protect their homeland, wife has to argue with some council. Yadda Yadda Yadda - micahman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11WE ARE SPARTA! The lines at my theater were around the block, and ALL movies were sold out for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
- Narwaffle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17300 isn't out until April 5th for us peasants in Australia. Why does the US mock us so?
- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19I have to laugh - how do they expect to top piracy if they give entire countries reasons to do just that? I assume that many people here are downloading it just because it's got a later release date in cinemas.
- etnu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+62Well, give them some slack. They've got to translate everything from American to Australian.
- doolittle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Don't blame the US as a whole, only hollywood & the mpaa. Maybe AUS didn't fund enough of the whole anti-piracy thing?
- crumbelievable, on 10/12/2007, -30/+12Some inconvenient truths about the movie:
i was snickering when leonidas took his queen doggy-style in the beginning
the dialogue was crap
everything is in slow-motion
it looked like a theatre production
the story sucks but it came straight from the graphic novel and the graphic novel had no story either
i'm very skeptical now of zach snyder doing watchmen
it probably should have never been made into a movie without a script that built on the non-existent story in the graphic novel
all i could think of was, i'm looking at actors in a big green room. sure, i don't see the green room, but it's there.
Listen, don't digg this down if you disagree with a couple points. Overall, I don't want my 10$ back because I was waiting to see this since the first kick-ass trailer came out. It was almost an experimental film because there was really no plot to it but the way the visuals were edited provided some nice eye candy anyway. For those saying the action scenes were good -- yeah, some were cool but they were all slo-mo! I applaud Zach Snyder because he obviously spent a long time perfecting this movie and making it the best he could make it, but look at scenes in The Matrix or Iron Monkey as comparison, and these speed-up/slow-down long shots with no cuts are, IMO, inferior.- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -20/+2I didn't dig this down because I disagreed with a couple of points, I dugg this down because A: It's obvious you're highly immature, and B: Because I agreed with all of your points.
- crumbelievable, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1I know you are but what am I :p Btw, doublecheck reason B.
- bebop717, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Yeah the graphic novel had a non-existent story in fact the side story of what was going on with his wife and the stuff going on in Sparta at the time of the battle was added as filler.
It was nearly 90 minutes of battles, and they looked freaking amazing, I went to see 300 for it's visual end, and I was satisfied it looked frame by frame identical to the graphic novel counterpart.
Sorry if it was not your thing, and if the plot was too thin for you. If you knew anything about Frank Miller, or 300 before going into this, it would not be a surprise. Frank is about getting the biggest baddest people to beat the ***** out of each other in the most violent way possible. And that is 300. - AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -2/+4Bah, I've been awake fifteen hours, worked nine of it. A subtle typo is excusable when you're as exhausted as I am right now.
I disagreed with your points, and I believe you know what I meant. :| - Turbosc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I agree with all your points, but it doesn't make this any less of a great movie in itself. I felt it was worth the money to see it. The whole movie as a package was great and presented well, and obviously selling well this weekend.
I mean hey, maybe the blood looked a little CG / Animated, but what if Frank Miller wanted it that way... I know you wouldn't dare go against him, because you'd be going against Sparta, and from what I'm told, they're pretty ***** hoss. - crumbelievable, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@bebop
I understand what you're saying and I actually did enjoy the movie, although Sin City in my eyes is leaps and bounds above it. I'm sorry if I've offended people with the tone I used. I think if you take out all the pejoratives, I've made some valid points. Even with all those critiques, the movie is still watchable. I'm not saying it's a bad movie.

i think it's over hyping actually hurt the finished product as far as i'm concerned. i was anticipating the best movie ever and it wasn't quite that, but it's still worth seeing.- robotplague, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I couldn't agree with you more. I've had a few conversations with people who think I'm insane for feeling this way.
- plkrtn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So far though, you can't fault Zack Snyder. He did a half decent job with Dawn of the Dead, considering what a tank that could've been... and the 300 he's done fantastically well with. The guy is a good director. He didn't write the thing though.
The fault, if anything goes with Frank Miller for his style of writing which is quite shallow and purile at times. Drawing and pencilling 10/10.... Character plot and development... I give him a 2.
- kriminalintent, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6You were anticipating the best movie ever?! WHY!?
All-action-no-plot fully CGI, sounds like some video games. I wish a game looked that detailed, maybe with a $60,000,000 budget they would...So they will break even the first week, not bad.- spearce, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4i bought into the previews...it looked like something really well done and different.
eh...i got excited. i'm a sucker. - plkrtn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fully CGI?? I'm pretty sure those are Gerard Butler's own pecks!
Sure the sets were mostly CG, but how do you keep to the look of Miller's work without that kind of work... Its not like Spartan Greece is available to film in at a moments notice, is it?
Most major video games now have budgets the size of small movies too. Its not surprising to see some games costing $20mill now a days
- spearce, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4i bought into the previews...it looked like something really well done and different.
- IllBeBack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I only wish it would come out on DVD the same day it's released in theaters.
Having to pay $10 to get in and another $10 for popcorn and a drink and then to have to sit in a theater of people who can't figure out how to turn their cell phones on silent and who chat through the whole thing is just not worth it.
Oh, and don't forget all of those ads before the movie starts. Paying $20 to see ads is just whoop-dee-doop-a-licious. not.
The movie-going "experience" just sucks way too much ass these days.- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Why the ***** do people feel obligated to buy food at the movie theatre?
I work at the movies and I feel bad for people buying our overpriced *****. Sneak some food in dammit... - caffiend, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The theater here will kick you out just for seeing your cell phone light up.
- br0ck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Actually, I think this movie has to be experienced on the big screen.
To get a better crowd experience, try going to the first showing. I've been doing this for the past year or two and the crowd's are a more dedicated sort that are more respectful and more into the movie. For example, I had the exact opposite experience at the Thursday night IMAX showing. The movie was $10 (why does anyone buy popcorn anyway?) and started exactly at 12 with no ads and the audience added a ton to the experience because they were all going crazy the whole time. - bmobile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1psbpv3o: I'm sorry but you sir are an idiot. I don't normally like to call people out but seriously, if you actually worked in a theater, you would know that people buying the "overpriced *****" is just about the only thing that pays your paycheck. Movie theaters only make like 10% on box office sales during the first week.
- plkrtn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats the problem with going to movies nowadays.
Everyone seems to think they should whoop and cheer when they should just sit, shut the f*** up and watch the damn thing.
The reason people pirate instead of going to the cinema... Every other noisy bastard in the place who think they should cheer and whoop. - WavyLayz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dang, dude. What city do you live in? My theatre kicks ass. The commercials suck, but thats what you gotta deal with to get a good seat. I was about 25 minutes early on Friday night.

- thearrow, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6300 is better than gladiator!
- Franklancer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not sure if I agree with that, but i was on box office Mojo earlier, and 300 will blow away Gladiator and Troy for opening weekend, not sure if it'll have the legs to beat out Gladiator in the long run, but a very impressive showing for a $60 million produced movie in this style, since both Troy and Gladiator cost far more (and a lot of that was for the stars), this movie could really change the way Hollywood looks at things, if it walks away as one of the big hits of the year without a single recognizable star in the cast.
- Random63, on 10/12/2007, -22/+9I just got back from the theater. First of all, this goes to my small, limited, and exclusive DVD collection when it comes out. Holy Toledo! What a movie! It's not a chick flick and the funny thing was, the Orlando Sentinel newspaper had a woman film critic write about the movie. She tore it up and gave it two stars trying to discredit the movie and message.
What message do you ask? Well, I will leave that up to you to decide. Frank Miller and the director said there was no hidden message in it or did they intend for it to pertain to modern day and the Muslim's war on us, but I am quite certain that the democrats, liberals, moonbats, anti-war traitors, American haters, and the Muslims will be doing everything they can to shut down this movie. It deals with honor, freedom, bravery, sacrifice, patriotism, and believing in fighting evil to save your way of life, family, and country. All things that the left and Muslims despise. Expect a major media campaign by our enemies to try to shut down this movie. I fully expect it to be number one for several weeks in a row unless the left finds a way to make the theaters refuse to show it.
Also, not trying to be sexist, but this is a man's movie through and through. It is neither a chick flick nor a date flick. This is one you go see with your male buddies. Ladies, this is one you buy for your man.
Fantastic movie, fantastic message, and fantastically needed for our times. I am in awe of the Spartans of old, and much more in awe of our modern day Spartans, the UNITED STATES MILITARY! I give the movie and its message 50 stars.
Be safe and be well all.
P.S. This is not for young men under age 18 though. There is nudity and a sex scene.

- LeBlue, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4I'm glad to see all the 10 year olds that are "JUST GON' 2 WATCH IT 4 DA FITE SCENZ" stole enough money form their mom's purse to watch 300. Don't get me wrong, i want to see it too but not just for the fight scenes.
Torrent 300, I know the CAM version is up, I think I'll just wait for the TS release. - kermithefrog, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2the first 72/81 of the film was excellent... but what a terrible ending!
- treypidation, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5I didn't hate 300, but I was sorely disappointed. It looked nice, but some of that dialogue was just retarded, especially Leonidas' toying with Xerxes for sheer comic relief... I know the movie isn't supposed to be 'realistic' but the actors should be at least engaging.
I expected the best performance out of Dominic West, and his character was so weak...
and to be marketed as some ultra-bloody epic, it really didn't deliver for me like I expected. I didn't see anything in the movie that made me gasp or anything, and there were some parts that were just unintentionally hilarious(crumbelievable: i laughed out loud when Leonidas and Gorgo were doin the nasty and the showed the "doggystyle" camera angle...i couldn't help it).
Sin City was alot more graphic and gripping than 300, even though 300's "gripping graphics" were supposed to be paramount.- SanTe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6With regards to comic relief, that was actually the nicest surprise about '300' for me. Leonidas was portrayed not only as noble, courageous, and an excellent leader, but as very charismatic, and he had a sharp sense of humor that made him immensely like-able. No wonder his men revered him so much.
I went in with low expectations so I could just enjoy the movie for what I expected it to be, but Gerard Butler totally made the movie for me. Without his portrayal of Leonidas '300' would have been very disappointing I think.

Stop trying to claim the movie as right-wing. I bet you never even were in the US military either. Take it from someone who did serve, this movie is about freedom and why you fight for it. Not about fighting a war where you restrict your people's freedom and privacy in the process.- Random63, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's sure isn't a movie the left wing can claim ERIKWITHAKNOTAC. And I do serve my country, everyday. The ideas aren't "right wing", but American. I claim this for my country not a "wing" of it ERIKWITHAKNOTAC.
Be safe and be well.

p.s. dont share political views during the film please... - mlivebc, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5This is another Hollywood propaganda movie. Not against the arabs but against our new enemy the Iranians who are persians.
- InsultComedy, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Agreed. The weird thing is historically the Spartans were homosexual pedophiles. I wonder why that was left out. Oh, and if the Spartans were so free, why did they own a disproportionate amount of slaves? Democracy indeed.
- MillenniumX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"This is another Hollywood propaganda movie. Not against the arabs but against our new enemy the Iranians who are persians."
The story was written in 1996, long before the current political situation had set in.
"Oh, and if the Spartans were so free, why did they own a disproportionate amount of slaves?"
Because the ancient Greeks used a very different definition of freedom from the one we use today. The book used the word the way the Spartans did. Unfortunately, one line was left out of the movie which was in the book and made this quite clear.
After one of Leonidas' big speeches on freedom, one of his soldiers cheers him on with "We're with you to the end, sire!" and similar stuff. At that point, Leonidas snaps at him "I didn't ask you. Leave democracy to the Athenians." Exactly why this was left out of the movie I'll never know, because it would have cleared up a lot of things. - InsultComedy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1MillenniumX
It was edited out to make a political message. - vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12@"Oh, and if the Spartans were so free, why did they own a disproportionate amount of slaves? "
Um... Pretty much everyone owned slaves back then (Jews, Egyptians, Romans, Greeks) until it was abolished by Christian Roman Emperors and replaced with serfdom around 500AD something.
Of course slavery existed in the Muslim world but more as force servitude and then the Europeans picked it back up in the 1500s with the conquest of the new world.
As for homosexuality and pedophilia... Well keep in mind it wasn't taboo back then and even in the middle ages it wasn't uncommon to see 12 year old brides bequeathed to older men.
Still its silly to judge an ancient culture by our moral structures of today... Because they don't exist anymore.
It is like complaining about the Vikings moral standards on pillage and rape hurts todays family values or something. - InsultComedy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2vertinox
Good points, but the movie ignores all of it so that it can be politcally correct instead of truthful. They wanted everyone to cheer on the Spartans instead of being factually objective, and that's why they conveniently left all of that out.
- futuretheory, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"This "Gladiator Lite" raked in $27.7 million Friday night"
I really don't like comparisons that shouldn't be made. Gladiator took place in Rome, hundreds of years after the Greek battle this movie is about. It's not "Lite", it's not "Gladiator", it's nothing like it in plot or even historically. The only thing that these movies have in common is that that they are great entertainment. - IanDWD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12History Lessons - SPOILER WARNING -
I went with a bunch of history geeks and they had some fun facts to share.
1. It's true that Spartans practiced Eugenics in killing deformed children, but because of this they wouldn't have cared about Adultery. They wanted their women pregnant by as many men as often as possible to have sufficient stock to chose from.
2. The to-be-king would never have undergone the educational trials other young boys did. They couldn't take the chance he would die.
3. Sparta was an oligarchy, not a democracy, and they owned slaves.
4. The Spartans actually ended up buying weapons from the Persians to defeat their other Greek rivals.
5. Hitler loved the Spartans and his "Third Reich" was a mishmash of Greek/Spartan and Roman ideals.
6. King Leonidas was Queen Gorgo's uncle.
Basically everything you saw about the Persians was a lie too. Not that I care, the movie rocked.- vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14What? You mean the Persians didn't have giant mutants?
- InsultComedy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Finally, an intelligent Digger. Truth is better than politics. Oh, and the Spartans were homosexual pedophiles, which led to a more psychologically integrated army. I guess it is a man's movie after all.
- ender42081, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0it is nice to see (finally) someone backing up the inacuracies instead of saying 'but my teacher said its stupid'. that aside, the whole argument is like saying trigun is rediculous because they didn't have microphones and satellite radio in the wild west. treat it as a sci-fi and suddenly it is an AMAZING story. I mean, how else are you going to count mutants? or xerxes looking like he's a metalhead instead of a bearded dude with a funny hat?
saw ghost rider, so bad I wanted my torrent bandwidth back.

- frederoil, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Saw it last night. Was I watching a WWE Wrestling show on Spike TV? I almost expected a beer commercial (hey dude! throw me a bud light!) to interrupt the movie halfway through. Or possibly even have King Leonidas turn to the camera and urge me to "Snap into a Slim Jim!"
The slow-motion scenes and the rock riffs playing in the background let me know this was a music video director, straight out of the McG book of making films. Perhaps the kiddies would've enjoyed the flick more if Lucy Liu was one of the "Immortals" and Cameron Diaz was the spunky Spartan woman! - ElectricFuneral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6great movie, and i don't throw that term around alot, especially with new movies since most totally suck balls. but really this was a good movie, it had a simple story with plenty of violence and was centered around the message of the movie. which for those that didn't get it, the message is that its worth ones life to stand up against tyranny, no matter the odds. i love that they didn't water it down with side stories and *****. it was supposed to be a movie about a battle and that is exactly what it was. a lot of directors would have put in a stupid love story, or elaborated too much on the mutant guy that went to xerxes. that kind of ***** kills the pace of a lot of good movies for the sake of catering to a wider audience. the cinematography was great, and the limited musical score added to the movie instead of distracting from it. good flick.

- TapouT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This movie was something of a guilty pleasure for me, kind of like Independence Day. Sure the plot was thin, it wasn't true to history (who cares), a lot of the dialog was lame, and it purposely strays from realism with crazy monster people, but that's really the formula for a sweet action flick is it not? I enjoyed the charismatic leader, the gnarly warriors killing everything that moved, and the overall intensity of the movie. The visual style is great, at least it wasn't as annoying as Sin City after two hours like I thought it was going to be. It's not political at all, and I seriously doubt the average(or above) person who watches this movie is going to think "Persians are evil, Iranians are Persians, Iran is evil, kill Iran!". If you can't take this movie for what it is then your first need to climb out of your own ass, and then chill out. Hate it because it's stupid and shallow or love it because it's entertaining and fun to watch. Please don't insist on making everything relate to politics, or we will all go crazy.

- smilingjack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'm shallow and I wanted to see pure violence for two and a half hours, I loved every minute of 300. Digital projection
There are currently two types of projectors for digital cinema. Early DLP projectors, used primarily in the US, used limited 1280 x 1024 resolution which are still widely used for pre-show advertising but not usually for feature presentations. The current specification for digital projectors calls for three levels of playback to be supported: 2K (2048x1080) at 24 frames per second, 4K (4096x2160) at 24 frames per second, and 2K at 48 frames per second. Three manufacturers have licensed the TI-developed DLP technology. Christie Digital Systems, makers of the CP2000, a 2K DCI-compliant Digital Cinema Projector, and Barco are the market leader in terms of units sold and deployed internationally. Where Christie is the main player in the US, Barco takes the lead in Europe and Asia, resulting in an equal share world-wide.
