Who did Wall-E rip off more, Idiocracy or Short Circuit?

calacanis.com — I really loved Wall-E, but I couldn't help but notice that more than half of the film's plot was lifted from the brilliant--and much more adult--film idiocracy. Additionally, the robot seems so cute and familiar that you have to wonder--as many people have--if you've met him before (hint, you have).

    BTW, I thought Kung Fu Panda was better.

  • virtualsnyper, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1There were a lot of Apple refs in this one. Eve looked like the next iTrashCan in Steve's arsenal. Wall-E's "fully charged" sound was the Mac startup sound ... and I can't help but think Al Gore (who sits on Apple's board) had something to do with the plot.

  • ftyuv, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Wall-E was pretty different from Idiocracy, if you ask me. Idiocracy was about how we're turning stupid; Wall-E was about how even the smart of us are becoming too lazy and complacent, and we're brainwashing ourselves. Those are pretty different messages.
