X-Files Mythology for Dummies
io9.com — In the nine years The X-Files was on the air, Chris Carter and co. gave us 202 hour-long episodes and a feature film. If you haven't been a diehard fan since the beginning, how are you supposed to catch up on all that before I Want to Believe comes out next week? Take heart, because there are those who share your concerns - even the BBC has an X-Fi

- ghidorahnotweak, on 07/19/2008, -2/+5Cool set of reviews of websites that explain the X-Files backstory. Thanks!
- shadekeiko, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Good timing for those who want to catch up on X-Files before the new movie comes out on Friday. :)
- jrbrewin, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1the episode guides are cool. but is there one that highlights which episodes from all series that relate to the main plotlines?
i'd like to catchup, but don't want to watch all the random episodes.
- str3ama, on 07/20/2008, -0/+7Good cause all I remember from the first movie was a hole in the desert, some alien thing in there, the government covering it up. And then a UFO flying overhead and Fox rescuing Sculley from the UFO as it passed over head in what was Alaska or something. I can't remember anything from the last episode of the show except for them going to Arizona desert and some guy living in a cave.
- daRoach, on 07/20/2008, -0/+11And the bees, don't forget all the *****' bees.
- 10scott10, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2all i remember is the bees and Antarctica.
- roryk27, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1wasn't there a corn field inside a building or something too?
- SpamBurger, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1The domes the bee's were in was in a cornfield in the desert in Tunisia.
- str3ama, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1ahh yes how could I have forgot the bee. They follow some ghost train and they end up finding the dome in this corn field with bees in it.
- sovietninja, on 07/20/2008, -0/+5The "some guy" living in a cave, is probably the biggest character of the entire series.... cancer man.
- Napiertt, on 07/21/2008, -0/+0My f**king role model!!!!!
- InsaneOni, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Yeah, the problem with the X-Files is that if you really want to get what's going on you need to see all the mythology episodes. I think they're trying to move away from that in this movie though.
- yahoofrom, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1All I remember from the first movie is naked Sculley.
- daRoach, on 07/20/2008, -0/+11And the bees, don't forget all the *****' bees.
- AyaJulia, on 07/20/2008, -0/+6Sweet. I stopped watching it the season before the first movie came out. Heard that they got rid of Mulder and Scully a few years later and totally lost interest in ever watching it again, but the husband is sure to want to go see this new movie. Long hair just doesn't seem to fit Scully's character....
- RadiatedAnt, on 07/20/2008, -4/+9If you don't know about it, chances are you aren't going to see the movie anyways.
- Eldorian, on 07/20/2008, -11/+2Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny must have been hurting for money to agree to make this film. Almost every interview I've heard from them talking about the film all they did was whine about how horrible of a time they had with making it. David whined about having to do too much action and running.
Their interviews alone make me not even want to bother even though I enjoyed the series immensely.- billpyle, on 07/20/2008, -1/+6They barely made anything for doing the film. They both are not hurting for money. Sure, they might not be huge movie stars but they both made plenty of money for the series alone to never have to worry about money again.
David and Gillian both give non serious answers in interviews. When they say stuff that makes you think they hated doing the film, they're joking. They both always wanted to do the film.- Eldorian, on 07/20/2008, -7/+1Fanboy much?
- Modulo, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Hipper-than-thou douchebag much?
- Napiertt, on 07/21/2008, -0/+0Buffy-speak much?
- onestarleft, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1They've been talking about making this movie since before the series ended. I'm certain it has nothing to do with money.
- billpyle, on 07/20/2008, -1/+6They barely made anything for doing the film. They both are not hurting for money. Sure, they might not be huge movie stars but they both made plenty of money for the series alone to never have to worry about money again.
- emko00, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2x-file was a great show i missed it a lot hope the movie is going to be good. They could of continued the show if they wanted to because at the end you find out i don't want to spoil it for others but Mulder had lots of time to fight back i think its was till 2012.oh and i also missed the lone gun man in the show never got to watch the spin off :(
- sharternarter, on 07/20/2008, -7/+1Wow, you are a complete retard. Learn how to punctuate and construct a ***** sentence you god damn moron.
- emko00, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2maybe english is not my first language WOW why so rude ?
- sharternarter, on 07/21/2008, -2/+0Not your first language? I have an idea, how about you refrain from making nonsensical posts on an English-based website? Or better yet, get off of Digg and post on some knockoff bookmark site that is in whatever useless language is your native tongue. Sound good?
- emko00, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1wow why you so angry? and how can u say my language is useless? are u American ?
- emko00, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1so u made an account to tell me how bad i write, not to post on digg and that my language is useless?
- Modulo, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1sharternarter, I have an idea too. Worry more about looking like a complete ***** than other people's spelling. Go ahead, try it on for size.
- Napiertt, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1His post wasn't that bad. If you want to criticize it, fine, but be polite. Resorting to name calling and profanity just makes you look like a complete idiot and a very nasty person. Given the tenor of your other posts in this thread, seems obvious that you're a very nasty person . I guess the internet makes it easy for people to reveal their true selves.
He's free to post wherever, if you don't like his post just move on.
- sharternarter, on 07/20/2008, -7/+1Wow, you are a complete retard. Learn how to punctuate and construct a ***** sentence you god damn moron.
- tconnect80, on 07/20/2008, -0/+17Or just do it the hard way like me and try and cram all of the episodes in before the new one leaves theaters :D
- sovietninja, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1there is a 48gb torrent out there with every episode in mp4 format, good for watching it on the go and on the crapper and whenever you can catch an episode. I recommend you watch the mytharc episodes first, that way you dont have to watch all the monster of the weeks nor the wanna be Monica and John Dogget episodes.
- whahaa, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1i concur. i posted a list of mytharc episodes below, plus the several episodes chris carter selected for the 'revelations' dvd.
note: the xfiles (through season 6) is way more awesome then i even remembered when only watching the mytharc. the story moves along so fast that way. - sovietninja, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1I just realized you may not want to watch it on the crapper the episodes are like 46 minutes each. Unless you had alot of tacobell.
- whahaa, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1i concur. i posted a list of mytharc episodes below, plus the several episodes chris carter selected for the 'revelations' dvd.
- VVCephei, on 07/20/2008, -1/+1I did the same, My god it was absolutely awesome! season 8 & 9 sucked Reallly bad though...
so a heads up, skip those seasons, they're irrelivent (mulder is hardly in them and skully has a new partner or some *****)
- sovietninja, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1there is a 48gb torrent out there with every episode in mp4 format, good for watching it on the go and on the crapper and whenever you can catch an episode. - hakz, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1I'm still going to watch it, hated the fact that mulder wasn't in all but one episode in season 9, and I hated the way they ended it.
- migshark, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2Lol I was copy-pasting the timeline to read later, but I stopped when I noticed it was 126 pages long and I was only half-way there. That's a freaking novel just to outline the general plot. And yes, I know if I was a hardcore fan I'd still read it or own the box set. I hang my head in shame.
- HotDogBun, on 07/20/2008, -13/+2The X-Files is so bad it almost makes me ashamed to be an American.
There is ZERO suspension of disbelief. Horrible, Horrible show.- emko00, on 07/20/2008, -1/+2lol so you come in here to say how bad it was?did you even watch it? or old enough to have watched it?
i thought it was one of the best shows and it did get lots of awards so i guess maybe U just don't like it. - brokenworlds, on 07/20/2008, -1/+1You missed "/sarcasm", dont worry we all make mistakes sometimes.
- emko00, on 07/20/2008, -1/+2lol so you come in here to say how bad it was?did you even watch it? or old enough to have watched it?
- The3rdjj, on 07/20/2008, -0/+9This is kinda unrelated but anyone remember the show "Reboot" when they did a spoof on the x-files? Been awhile since they played that show in TV. A classic I would say.
- emko00, on 07/20/2008, -0/+5haha i remember that show it was good graphics for its time better then that ***** power rangers when they go into those robots made out of boxes :)
- Ziraku, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3Reboot was fantastic. They're coming out with a movie soon, I believe.
- shadekeiko, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2Holy crap, you're right. Apparently there is going to be a trilogy of ReBoot movies! That show was awesome, so yay.
- The3rdjj, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1omg I never heard of that, I can't wait.
- stoikiometry, on 07/20/2008, -0/+4Going from memory here, I think they were called Fax Modem and Data Nully, and only Anderson voiced it, no Duchovny.
I thought the movies ended with My Two Bobs.
- Alex2, on 07/20/2008, -8/+1MASHEO
Mulder And Scully Hate Each Other.
that's all you need to know. - Gndoab, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3did anyone else get confused when they first saw the commercials/previews for the new movie? It's been like 10 years, and it just came out of the blue.
- shadekeiko, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2There have been articles floating around the movie news sites for several months, but aside from that Chris Carter and Co. have been keeping things very under wraps to try and preserve the story from getting spoiled.
- spiffyfitz, on 07/20/2008, -1/+29Gillian Anderson is hot.
- qwertycopter, on 07/20/2008, -1/+15*Redheads are hot.

- qwertycopter, on 07/20/2008, -1/+15*Redheads are hot.
- markperia, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2I only watched X-files for 5 seasons and even then I wasn't able to watch every single episode. As much as I want to watch the whole series from start to finish again, there's just too many.
- sovietninja, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Just watch the mytharc episodes, there are bout 5-6 per season. The rest are monster of the week episodes and do not apply to the larger conspiracy.
- HaMMeReD, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2Some of the monster of the week episodes were the best episodes.
- sovietninja, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Yeah, they were. I thought the new movie was part of the mytharc, but people are saying its a monster of the week so perhaps you don't need to know the story going into it. Well find out on friday.
- Napiertt, on 07/21/2008, -0/+0Yeah truly! Especially the funny ones! They were so amazingly well done! Jose Chung from outer Space, Small Potatoes with Eddie van Blundth.
The X-Files was an amazing quality series!
- Napiertt, on 07/21/2008, -0/+0Gotta get the DVDs bro!
- sovietninja, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Just watch the mytharc episodes, there are bout 5-6 per season. The rest are monster of the week episodes and do not apply to the larger conspiracy.
- cran, on 07/20/2008, -2/+3Buried for not being an "X-Files for Dummies" but rather a list of links for people to go read and figure things out for themselves.
- NathanCH, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Hollywood North ftw
- Retrospekt, on 07/20/2008, -0/+5I can't wait for the new xfiles movie.
- desmondageratte, on 07/20/2008, -0/+12I lost interest in the series when Mulder pulled out and the bad guy from Terminator replace him in the show.
- brokenworlds, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2Been waiting for this movie so long though have to wait till August to see it (and theres no way im ruining it by watching it online)
- hakz, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1I don't understand how the super soldiers came about and what the hell happened to the bounty hunters, resistance and the other shapeshifters

the truth 2 - eddiea23, on 07/20/2008, -1/+1I saw a recent interview with David Duchovny (on one of the night-time talk shows, I think) and he made a comment about this movie being far more stand-alone than the last one. Though I was a big fan of the whole conspiracy arc, you probably won't need the entire back-story to understand the new movie... At least that seems to be the tone from the recent interviews.
But, Duchovny also said that they intend on keeping the plot itself under wraps until it premiers... (i.e. not even any review copies). I know that is often a sign that the studio knows the movie will suck, but I can also appreciate the fun of not already knowing half the plot before entering the theater. - infernal6, on 07/20/2008, -0/+5A quicker way to catch up on X-files history... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X-Files .... yeah.. just read the season summaries and you'll be good to go!
- xkrwlng, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1The series was ok, until the last episodes, where they had Mulder & Scully monologue every episode of every season of the show, in a single episode, like it was somehow all connected, and all supposed to make sense. Pretty whacked.
- Napiertt, on 07/21/2008, -0/+0For me, it went downhill after Mulder left and Doggit(?) and whats-her-name came in. They really should have wrapped it up at that point.
- Ubergoober3, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Mythology? It's all real!
- sockpuppets, on 07/20/2008, -0/+4Mulder?
Scully?
Mulder!
Scully!
Mulder where are you?
Scully over here! - QualityGal, on 07/21/2008, -0/+0At least they included Red Wolf's Episode Guide. I lived on that site for a while before the series ended.
- skinny01, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1I loved the show but I do believe that this movie is a few years too late.
- peaceninja, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1hopefully this movie will be good enough to do a final movie about a 2012 colonization, and will be released appropriately in 2012
- Napiertt, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Anytime is a good time for an X-Files movie!
- peaceninja, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1hopefully this movie will be good enough to do a final movie about a 2012 colonization, and will be released appropriately in 2012
- antdude, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1"even the BBC has an X-Fi" ? Creative?
- valleyvideo, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Hint no. 1 that your show might be a little convoluted: Your mythology timeline starts FOUR AND A HALF BILLION YEARS AGO.
- iguanapunk, on 07/21/2008, -1/+2man, I get a boner just reading the title X-Files because I always get an image of Gillain Anderson being penetrated by an alien.
