- rlray216, on 05/15/2008, -0/+20Awesome list - this makes the favorites list.
- synthoid, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2Buried. There's no Napster or Limewire on that list.
- alanocu, on 05/15/2008, -0/+9nice list, thank you!
- socivitus, on 05/15/2008, -1/+8Blip is amazing, but I think Playlist.com should have made #23, it's one of my personal favorites.
- Surferess, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Me too
- tylerromes, on 05/15/2008, -4/+18where's nuTsie.com? You can upload your own iTunes library to the site and access it from anywhere (including my BlackBerry). Pretty ridiculous.

free, streaming, easy, legal. dig in.- paulofmandown, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4I'm very impressed with this website.
But damn do your and my musical tastes differ. - Prez, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Except the app is 20 damn dollars!
- BurnTees, on 05/15/2008, -1/+2i have a hard time believing that that's legal since right now i can listen to those songs for free from your site and i'm not paying a thing.
- jonfredric, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1holler, We pay for what you stream - so stream away!!!
- paulofmandown, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4I'm very impressed with this website.
- jonfredric, on 05/15/2008, -8/+17Hmmm...I would estimate a good 80% of these sites are illegal.
- alexforcefive, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3Yeah, I was really hoping this would be a list of creative-commons social networks or something similar. Oh well :(
- shark72, on 05/15/2008, -0/+6Sorry, your estimate is incorrect.
What the articles author may not have understood is that unlike terrestrial radio, the RIAA gets a cut of royalties from net radio. So, when you use last.fm, Pandora, or many of the other sites on the list, the RIAA makes a little money.
- tropican8, on 05/15/2008, -1/+10How have I not heard about Grooveshark until now? From my understanding you can upload and stream your entire music collection, listen to anyone else's, and if someone purchases tracks from your collection through them, you get 50% of the profits to spend on music. What format is available for purchase you ask? Whatever the uploader has made available. Including DRM-free lossless.
It looks like they have gotten a lot of labels on board too: http://www.grooveshark.com/labels-list
Q&A here: http://www.zeropaid.com/news/9035/Q&%3BA+With+Groo ...- tian2992, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Grooveshark rules!,
*thanks Fayerwayer for the beta invite!*
- tian2992, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Grooveshark rules!,
- FizzanoMatrix, on 05/15/2008, -8/+3Should have more support for .wav based synapse mod or vorbis collections theoretically.
- Shakermaker, on 05/15/2008, -3/+9***** I hate audiophiles.
- didgital, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2I agree with you, but on the other hand, people do rip their mp3's at too low a rate. Ever notice how most mp3's just sorta sound lower than FM quality these days? Rip at 320 people!
- Shakermaker, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3Oh, don't get me wrong - people that rip MP3's at 128 or lower bug the crap out of me, but when people start whining that a 320kb rip isn't quality and that you're an idiot if you don't use flac or vorbis really get to me.
- didgital, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2I agree with you, but on the other hand, people do rip their mp3's at too low a rate. Ever notice how most mp3's just sorta sound lower than FM quality these days? Rip at 320 people!
- Shakermaker, on 05/15/2008, -3/+9***** I hate audiophiles.
- Huangism, on 05/15/2008, -11/+2this should be filed under the "top whatever" category, buried
- altrego99, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Buried... (comment) should be under "crap" category.
- boldfire, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Overplay.co.uk is often a good source of new bands who (mostly) haven't been discovered by the industry yet.
- mrzeero, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4I get a 503 error.
- theotheragentm, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Definitely not this one.
- Stormwern, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3222 sites and no pirate bay?
- djloekee27, on 05/15/2008, -2/+1and they left out megaupload, rapidshare, mediafire...
- avonwodahs, on 05/15/2008, -1/+14Mirror: http://72.14.205.104/search?hs=sUq&hl=en&lr=&c2cof ...
- juicymixx, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1mirror's down? are there more?
- prestige, on 05/15/2008, -0/+7I'm sure I've seen that "Service Temporarily Unavailable" site more than 22 times.
RIAA +1 - WellDigga, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1"Service Temporarily Unavailable" don't ya just hate that
- Thrilltone, on 05/15/2008, -0/+6Pandora is my favorite. YouTube deserves a mention. That's where Thrilltone gets all it's music.
- zephyr42, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4Pandora really is fantastic, I've discovered so much new music that I would never have found before.
- mastercheif, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3mastercheif says talking in the third person is fun.
- RecoDesign, on 05/15/2008, -3/+18Id like to bust one on the Busted Tees girl.
- patsfan456, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1High five!
- shagg187, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3add tagoo.ru to the list as well :)
- getbuzy, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Seems this is the only one out of all mentioned that has Italo Disco music.
- justjoehere, on 05/15/2008, -9/+4Obligatory *Eff the RIAA*
- postalblowfish7, on 05/15/2008, -4/+34***** THE RIAA
- Trendecide, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Would say thanks, but it seems as though this is now a list of 22 sites the RIAA is targeting or will now target (not saying I still won't use them). Next underground site NOT on that list....
- ElBeh, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1023. nin.com ;)
- yunus, on 05/15/2008, -1/+8Piratebay Torrentspy mininova all strangely missing.
- jamminman, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3I think they might be classifying torrents as a whole different entity... if they included torrent sites, the list would be huge and not as interesting.
- djloekee27, on 05/15/2008, -1/+0oops, i already made a comment up above. i guess that megaupload, rapidshare and mediafire should classified as a different entity too...
- ChayesFSS, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2news.giganews.com, can't imagine they really love that one
otmp3.com, great one for music - Jorin, on 05/15/2008, -1/+5Score one for corporate censorship:
Dear Pandora Visitor,
We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.
We believe that you are in Canada (your IP address appears to be ***.***.***.***). If you believe we have made a mistake, we apologize and ask that you please contact us at pandora-support@pandora.com
If you are a paid subscriber, please contact us at pandora-support@pandora.com and we will issue a pro-rated refund to the credit card you used to sign up. If you have been using Pandora, we will keep a record of your existing stations and bookmarked artists and songs, so that when we are able to launch in your country, they will be waiting for you.
We will be notifying listeners as licensing agreements are established in individual countries. If you would like to be notified by email when Pandora is available in your country, please enter your email address below. The pace of global licensing is hard to predict, but we have the ultimate goal of being able to offer our service everywhere.
We share your disappointment and greatly appreciate your understanding.
Sincerely,
Tim Westergren
Founder- cam0man, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1go through a proxy in the US, problem solved.
- puppyfox, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Exactly. Pandora has a business model of serving ads while playing songs, and they pay their royalties, I don't see why it's stabbing the RIAA (F'em of course) in any way. The limitation on region doesn't have to do with censorship, just with the way they license tracks and make money.
- xerodustrial, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2O bittorrent, where art thou?
- Modestexcuse, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4Phftt, I'll digg this one without even reading it. That headline is quite catchy :)
- cam0man, on 05/15/2008, -3/+1how can Ruckus.com not be on the list? That's awesome for being legal. People use iTunes, I can find almost any album I'm looking for on Ruckus and I pull down at about a 1mb/s from their servers. Amazing applications, free for college students (or basically anyone with a .edu email address).
I guess the reason it's not more popular is because so many people think it's illegal since it's on par an iTunes type interface and offers so much amazing music. Only catch is the DRM....but a copy of tunebite will fix that. - Pegritz, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Hmmm. Not a bad list. Even *I* hadn't heard of a few of those.
- mrgreenjeans9, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1anyone know of a source for legal drum tracks. not just loops of beats, but actual play-along tracks?
- umdk1d3, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1http://tehorng.com/ is another great site for finding fresh new indie music--over 4,000 albums from rapidshare and similar sites :)
- invisiblehat, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3Here is my humble contribution--> http://beatsandblood.blogspot.com/
That's my spot where I put up sweet albums for my friends to download.
No you can't find everything, but it is chock full of awesome albums that I have personally paid for and uploaded from my collection.
Mostly 320kb Stereo and of course DRM-free in the place-to-be.
If you Digg me down, you are a punk-ass hater. The more we all share, the better this World will be. Peace! - Br3ach, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Nice little list, certainly left out some other important ones. But the important thing is these sites help the RIAA bleed out and die sooner, and Im all for that :)
- Weirdcore, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Out of all of these ive/i only heard (of)/use Last.fm. Damn thanx for this!!!
- Eltrkbrd, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1anywhere.fm
- sharp357, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Another good site that sticks it to the main stream and gives the money to the artists is CDbaby.com
- djloekee27, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0but you have to buy the cd's off of cdbaby. cdbaby is still a good idea for artists but i think most people would rather "download" their songs for free... no matter who the money was goin' to.
- mastercheif, on 05/15/2008, -0/+4Needs more waffles
- theDrizzle, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Although it is more of an online independent retailer,Insound has some good mp3's from indie artists available everyday or so, as well as a 'mp3 of the week' mailing list. I know it isn't much, but if you're looking to find NEW bands to follow, this is definitely a good place to start. Also, don't forget Rcrd Lbl...again, if you're into indie kind of stuff.

- eddy2, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Awesome..I just downloaded a gig of mp3's right now.
- DOPPELGANGING, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2I honestly expected to see the following on that list:
NIN and Trent Reznor - djloekee27, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0imeem is tight...
until i found out that they limit all the songs (that i've uploaded for people to listen to) to 30 seconds snippets... unless approved by the label for them to play the entire song (i found a backdoor to add imeem to myspace). - thinman1189, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Dugg for Slacker.
- cJeremy, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1gotta love LAST.FM~~~~~
- KungFuJesus, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1What.CD? and/or Waffles.fm? truly the greatest music sites on the internet
- Huangism, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1buried for "top whatever"
- vedema, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1...no listen77.com?
