Gene Simmons blames fans, P2P for killing music industry
arstechnica.com — KISS bassist Gene Simmons has some harsh words for the music industry as a whole, and especially for the fans who have apparently learned that it's okay to steal music. Simmons' attitude towards his loyal followers won't win anyone over, though, and may even make the situation worse for the band.

- JohnnyRad, on 06/19/2008, -0/+8Gene is a no talent, classless douche-bag - who cares what his views are?
- Kul7157, on 06/19/2008, -0/+4Gene Simmons is a dinosaur... Evolve or die.
Then again, that is to be expected from a band which has done at least 23 farewell tours. - IphtashuFitz, on 06/19/2008, -0/+5What an idiot. He wants the entire music industry to remain the way it was back in the 80's when Kiss was actually around and making money. He, like the recording industry, failed to understand the massive shift in technology that's taken place in the last two decades. New bands these days sell single tracks through on-line services, offer free downloads from their own sites, make money through selling promotional stuff, going on tour, etc. Pearl Jam first hit the scene in 1990 and they're still quite popular. Same with the Stone Temple Pilots for the most part (they did take a hiatus). I'm sure there are plenty of other good examples, but these were the first two that came to mind. By his logic these bands shouldn't exist. He probably also wishes that there was still one monopolistic telephone company, that Standard Oil was still the predominant American oil company, and that Wal-Mart was the only retail store. He really needs to shut up, leave the 80's, and get into 2008 like the rest of us.
- jrdbrn, on 06/19/2008, -1/+0I guess you can never have too many millions of dollars
The fact that CD prices have gone down is great, but I won't pay $18+ for a CD - MariusAgricola, on 06/19/2008, -0/+3Here lies Gene Simmons, god of rock no more.
Let him serve as lesson learned
That none survive a fan-base spurned.
Adapt or die, so they say,
P2P is here to stay.
Thus ends the tale of old Eugene,
Who failed to fathom the machine.
RIP - undermine, on 06/19/2008, -0/+4Get a job like the rest of us.
Music is great but it's not worth 3123232x billion dollars.
You are not giving us the gift of life here. - chamomile, on 06/19/2008, -1/+2Gene Simmons probably feels criminally guilty for all the monetary success he's had, knowing full well no future artist will ever, easily, make the insane money he's made over the years. It's no surprise he's angry the industry dried up -- there is no future artists to legitimize "cash crop" record sales. He's suffering an embarrassment of riches that has been exacerbated by a view of reality he's never seen before.
- Boshow, on 06/19/2008, -0/+5Sorry Gene, we'll just stop listening.
- NacaV, on 06/19/2008, -0/+6Gene Simmons needs to stfu, the truth is Artist make most of their money from tours and endorsements. The record labels are the ones who profit from CD sales. Quit being a mouthpiece Gene, you pathetic turd.
- infinitely, on 06/19/2008, -0/+3Breaking: Talentless hack speaks out against music theft.
- dssstrkl, on 06/19/2008, -0/+6Maybe Gene should go hang out with Lars so they can hold each other ever so gently and cry.
- Agapytho, on 06/19/2008, -0/+2Apparently that big tongue of his DOES clog the air to his brain...!!!
What an idiot... - Culyt, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2Good.
Maybe now the music *industry* is killed we can go back to listening to actual music, and people will listen to a range of independent artists rather than just hearing the stuff they get inserted into their brain by large record labels while they simultaneously pull large wads of cast out of your pockets.
☢ - skopas, on 06/20/2008, -0/+0OH, yeah ..................and his family jewels. Everyone here knows this dude is one greedy person, and he still believes we live in the fast 70's. Get over it Gene. While yer at it........................how about another farewell tour.
- mothdna, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1Hmmm.. KISS won't record new material until people stop pirating music and the record industry gets back on its feet.
We must never stop downloading.
