- philostrato, on 10/09/2008, -9/+23I wonder how much it'll change their sounds. Would be kind of cool to hear them work with Steve Albini, on that note.
- cerealjynx, on 10/09/2008, -4/+5Check out their secret little side band, Foxboro Hot Tubs
- petebot, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3It seems like they have a bunch of side projects, what with pinhead gunpowder and that devo-ish band they had.
- EricCiccone, on 10/09/2008, -2/+3You guys actually care about these "bands"?
- KaseyCarbone, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1Albini only works with bands he likes or respects. Not sure how he feels about Green Day.
- kingp, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Albini didn't like Pixies, so in my opinion Albini is a retard...just sayin!

- mywhitenoise, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana are the only good ones. Though I must admit I don't know any of the bands listed for the 80's.
- maretten, on 10/09/2008, -3/+3New Wave was one of the best albums of the year last year, but you wouldn't know that because you're a penis.
- Yarfunkle, on 10/09/2008, -19/+12I don't. Green Day can not and will never be seen the same way since they sold out and became part of the "emo" culture.
- Modio, on 10/09/2008, -11/+13OMG! I can't believe a band got *gasp* famous! Heaven forbid any band garner recognition and popularity! How dare they realize their dreams of fame!!
- silverzone, on 10/09/2008, -1/+13anyone who knows what true emo is would be appaled at your comment.
- Serphyas, on 10/09/2008, -2/+14Puh-LEASE Modio. Green Day was already well-known when American Idiot was released. There is a difference between becoming famous and pandering to a ***** whiny subculture.
It's a problem when people care about a band's popularity and not the quality of their music. - Acura666, on 10/09/2008, -3/+10No one's forcing you to listen to it, SO QUIT ***** BITCHING!
- MRintheKeys, on 10/09/2008, -4/+1I can't stand the fact that they went "emo" either. They use to be a solid psuedo-punk band but they are just too mainstream now.
- DeuceDiggalow, on 10/09/2008, -3/+14your mom
- smirkypants, on 10/09/2008, -4/+8Then don't read it?
- desfahanian, on 10/09/2008, -8/+2green day sucks. their last album was horrible!
- slapded, on 10/09/2008, -2/+4yeah it only went 5 times platinum. why dont you leave and go digg some apple ***** you geek.
- richardstaboner, on 10/10/2008, -1/+2BrahmK is a fall out boy fag, and from canadia.
- moredown, on 10/09/2008, -12/+3interesting...
- SpillReviews, on 10/09/2008, -11/+33hopefully they start to go a bit less pop. I don't think I truly enjoyed any of their albums since Dookie
- Reaktor5, on 10/09/2008, -10/+6And less emo.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/09/2008, -9/+4Green Day suck, but what the ***** are you talking about? Seriously.
- Reaktor5, on 10/09/2008, -6/+4I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone
Sorry, that's emo. - mywhitenoise, on 10/09/2008, -2/+7What band DOESN'T have a song about isolation? If you're defining a band 'emo' by one songs lyrics (be it about a girl, getting over addiction, walking alone, or needing to be loved), then sorry dude, EVERY band is emo.
You're an idiot. - Reaktor5, on 10/09/2008, -5/+1No, I'm defining American Idiot as having a lot of emo in it. Their earlier stuff was actually good.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/09/2008, -7/+2So an album like 'American Idiot' with it's heavy message towards politics is more emo than Nimrod...which had "Time Of Your Life"?
Green Day was never good, and they were never emo. Someone needs to learn about music before trying to sound like an expert on the subject. - screwattackthis, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6If you want to be pretentious, any song written with more than just sex and drugs in mind is "emo." There's a difference between a musician writing what they feel, and the fodder "emo" bands throw together to make pre-teen girls wet their pants. As much as I dislike American Idiot, it's in no way emo.
- benguild, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2@Reaktor5
Quit trying to sound like you are an expert. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. It is almost impossible to write a song without some scrap of emotion. So I guess, following your logic, that every song ever created is emo, and will all be lumped into that genre. I'm ***** sick of retards like you posting.
- IglooBurner, on 10/09/2008, -12/+7American Idiot was an awesome album. That album is what pulled me out of the whole grunge faze and into a punk/political faze.
- petebot, on 10/09/2008, -2/+17You didn't get out of your grunge phase until 2004? Wow.
- liambates, on 10/09/2008, -2/+15Green day got you into politics! I don't know you, but i hate you!
- MRintheKeys, on 10/09/2008, -7/+1Green Day pulled you into a grunge phase? I always thought that Green Day was more punk than grunge.
- screwattackthis, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2Go listen to NoFX's Franco Un-American and The Descendents' 'Merican.
- IglooBurner, on 10/10/2008, -1/+1limbates, green day did not get me into politics, stupid. I thought it'd be clear that i meant it as in musical style when i put political next to punk. but i guess there's more idiots in digg than i thought. And whats wrong with grunge? its better than most of the ***** that's out right now.
- topgigmedia, on 10/09/2008, -2/+15Dookie was pretty much pop, wasn't it?
- abw1987, on 10/10/2008, -1/+0...because they suck
- Reaktor5, on 10/09/2008, -10/+6And less emo.
- GaynEmo, on 10/09/2008, -10/+3nice
- grilledcheese80, on 10/09/2008, -28/+2Nirvana were so emo
- GnralHavoc, on 10/09/2008, -4/+11HOW DARE YOU!!! Nirvana was grunge! They were perfect!
- mywhitenoise, on 10/09/2008, -4/+2Blowing your brains out = ultimate emo
- liambates, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5wow hitler was an emo!!!! ***** man i never knew!
idiot... - Nevermor7, on 10/09/2008, -2/+1Not if his wife did it....
- GnralHavoc, on 10/09/2008, -4/+11HOW DARE YOU!!! Nirvana was grunge! They were perfect!
- aforce369, on 10/09/2008, -15/+10Oh dear God no...
- powatom, on 10/09/2008, -9/+37Could work out well if they drop the teeny-pop *****.
- neilhicks, on 10/09/2008, -6/+16Whoop-te-do.
- shutaro, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4Ooh-la-dee-dah!
- ProUSADigger, on 10/09/2008, -13/+11Irrelevant...completely.
- diggitydoc, on 10/09/2008, -8/+55this headline would be the ***** in 1996.
next... - H4adF1sh, on 10/09/2008, -32/+51Green Day ***** sucks.
- abw1987, on 10/10/2008, -1/+4Seconded.
- Johnnyjm, on 10/10/2008, -1/+2Thirded.
- Iwantawii, on 10/09/2008, -1/+27I would do Shirley Manson.
- ProUSADigger, on 10/09/2008, -7/+2I actually loved her until I saw her wearing an "I Love PETA" shirt.
- kidjay, on 10/09/2008, -0/+7even if she was a t-1000?
yes. the answer is yes. - Infidelcastr0, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1I concur.
- vermax, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1I've always thought her vocal poses were forgettable, but she's sure fun in Sarah Connor
- Morose7, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Hell yeah!
- ProUSADigger, on 10/09/2008, -7/+2I actually loved her until I saw her wearing an "I Love PETA" shirt.
- shimmi147, on 10/09/2008, -7/+10... so?
- scatteredbomb, on 10/09/2008, -9/+8Psh, way to be 2 days late and no credit MTV.
We "broke" this news on the 6th. PunkNews.org got it from us (and credited us) then Ultimate Guitar took the news credited both PunkNews and us, then MTV posts the story with no credit and they get on the digg front page.http://www.greendayauthority.com/- silverzone, on 10/09/2008, -5/+2Punknews owns your sorry ass.
- scatteredbomb, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6Oo look at you being tough. I have no problems with Punknews, the editors are good guys and i visit the place daily.
- vermax, on 10/09/2008, -1/+1hah, "green day authority"?
what a JOKE, what stupid noise they are - bjs3171, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2i used my mom's laptop today for the first time in years. I opened firefox, and what do you know, the default homepage was punknews. it's been a while.
- GKaushik, on 10/09/2008, -2/+5i'd be more excited if they were working with albini. who else has albums like surfer rosa and in utero on their resume?
- petebot, on 10/09/2008, -2/+3Well I'd say having Dirty, Experimental Jet..., Bricks Are Heavy, Siamese Dream, and Betty on your resume are pretty damn cool too.
Anyway, Steve Albini's too cool for Green Day (and I mean that in every possible way).
- petebot, on 10/09/2008, -2/+3Well I'd say having Dirty, Experimental Jet..., Bricks Are Heavy, Siamese Dream, and Betty on your resume are pretty damn cool too.
- bleh19799791, on 10/09/2008, -15/+9Greenday and Blink 182, stop it. Just stop it.
- DeuceDiggalow, on 10/09/2008, -2/+17Blink 182 broke up a long time ago
- KillsTheWeak, on 10/09/2008, -0/+14And sound nothing like Green Day.
- bleh19799791, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1@Deuce Thank you. They (stink182) are one of the reason I don't listen to pop radio anymore.
- liambates, on 10/09/2008, -1/+1But innocent childrens brains are still being turned to mush! Think of the children!
- DeuceDiggalow, on 10/09/2008, -2/+17Blink 182 broke up a long time ago
- boomerang42, on 10/09/2008, -15/+10I liked Green Day when they weren't emo sellouts.
see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_to_Acceptance
I cried the day American Idiot came out...- greenlikematt, on 10/09/2008, -0/+8I cried when nimrod came out.
Dugg for 1,039/smoothed out slappy hours!
- greenlikematt, on 10/09/2008, -0/+8I cried when nimrod came out.
- GnralHavoc, on 10/09/2008, -15/+8Green Day you stay away from NIRVANA!! If you cover any of their songs so help me GOD!!
P.S. You are a bunch of sell-outs and you look too emo for me to like you anymore.- petebot, on 10/09/2008, -1/+4Wow. Way to not even read the title.
- telepheedian, on 10/09/2008, -3/+4Nirvana is legendary. Anything else?
- EricCiccone, on 10/09/2008, -3/+3Legendary at being a terrible band!
- stormgren, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2have you ever listened to the Nirvana unplugged album?
Do that before you call them terrible. Nirvana did some pretty good stuff. - telepheedian, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Like them or not, they started a new genre that was copied by a ton of bands during that time. That alone is enough to add them to the list.
- Nevermor7, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2Angry....? try weed.
- mattberrytr, on 10/09/2008, -4/+23Kurt Cobain was not a emo
- GnralHavoc, on 10/09/2008, -4/+14He was grunge. Whoever said he was should be shot.
- petebot, on 10/09/2008, -3/+12In the face? With a shotgun?
- tykwondingo, on 10/09/2008, -1/+10too soon pete, too soon...
- EricCiccone, on 10/09/2008, -1/+11You're right he is not emo, he actually killed himself something no emo would ever do.
- squelched, on 10/09/2008, -3/+2so you think
- squelched, on 10/28/2008, -0/+1im sure he just got really sad after having his kid and killed himself due to malcontent at the old age of 27 ..... right official story is garbage... his credit card was used after he was killed and the shotgun that he apparently killed himself with was clean of fingerprints.. if you think he shot himself like a little emo would.. which kobain was not you should do some of your own research.. and you are a toolbag fyi!
- m0zzie, on 10/09/2008, -2/+10correct, he was not "a" emo. he was an hero.
- chinolofus, on 10/09/2008, -8/+3hero? he was a coward who couldnt handle life.
- powatom, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4A rare sighting! The esteemed chinolofus demonstrating the 'fail' dance!
- tykwondingo, on 10/10/2008, -2/+1not all that rare (see history)
- japface, on 10/10/2008, -1/+2he was a hero for... killing himself?
- squelched, on 10/28/2008, -0/+1getting killed? being the victim of a murder? being better than you at guitar? being better than you at writing lyrics?? being better than you in general? ... ill stick with all of the above
- GnralHavoc, on 10/09/2008, -4/+14He was grunge. Whoever said he was should be shot.
- wasteside, on 10/09/2008, -8/+4so its going to be really really *****
- Modio, on 10/09/2008, -2/+10Vig did great work with Against Me! on New Wave. Hopefully we'll see a similar presence for Green Day's album.
- silverzone, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4A folk punk Green Day album. That'd be wierd.
- tykwondingo, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2no, he didn't.
- warplayer, on 10/09/2008, -1/+1Yes, New Wave was one of my fav. albums that year. Didn't realize Vig produced that, awesome.
- buckeye45, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2New Wave was a piece of *****. Have you guys ever heard of an album called Reinventing Axl Rose?
- Modio, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1Reinventing Axl Rose is great, but I still like Searching for a Former Clarity the best.
- raz98, on 10/09/2008, -2/+11I wish they release something in the sound of Dookie...
- MRintheKeys, on 10/09/2008, -1/+1They've been peddling "*****" for a few years now.
- Philbert, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1Dookie was good, but even further back was better. 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours was always my fave.
- Grimulus, on 10/09/2008, -3/+13I've personally been waiting for a new Insomniac album for a long, long time...others were good, but they weren't Insomniac.
I'd love to hear the band sound gritty again. Hard. Fast. Punk.- usrlocalbin, on 10/09/2008, -10/+5Greenday isn't punk.
- silverzone, on 10/09/2008, -2/+9Wrong. New Green Day isn't punk.
- telepheedian, on 10/09/2008, -3/+2What are they then?
- raz98, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2The first albums were punk-rock, they gone softer after Dookie, more soft rock on Nimrod.
- KillsTheWeak, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2When they first came out, they were considered punk. In the 90's we called them Alternative. Not sure what the hell you guys call them now. Nimrod was the last album i heard. Insomniac was garbage.
- MRintheKeys, on 10/09/2008, -4/+1Green Day in their inception was a pseudo-punk band you wanker.
- KillsTheWeak, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4What the ***** is a pseudo punk, your either are or not. These labels you guys come up are retarded. Maybe Green Days next album will make them Classic Pseudo-Industrial Techno-Pop-Trip Country Punk.
- usrlocalbin, on 10/09/2008, -10/+5Greenday isn't punk.
- isayre020888, on 10/09/2008, -4/+3For a second there I thought they were talking about Steve Albini and I was like "WHAT!?! I thought Albini was better than that" but luckily its not.
- DeuceDiggalow, on 10/09/2008, -9/+2They should just do a completely hardcore thrash punk album
- KaseyCarbone, on 10/09/2008, -1/+1Because that's not been done yet?
- DeuceDiggalow, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4Because they're starting to become adult contemporary rock
- JohnnyJpg, on 10/09/2008, -10/+16A ***** sandwich is still made of *****.
- timbro1, on 10/09/2008, -7/+7who gives a *****?
- DeuceDiggalow, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1your mom?
- Xihix, on 10/09/2008, -3/+4While the singles of American Idiot were pretty crappy, I did like like two or three songs from the album. Also, Dookie was the ***** *****, so don't regard the band as always being crappy.
- anonymousguy, on 10/09/2008, -7/+4Wow, so its going to suck, right?
- doshindude, on 10/09/2008, -7/+2No! Nirvana had its time during the 90s, don't resurrect it!
- Jimonthewall, on 10/09/2008, -0/+10I doubt using a Nirvana producer is going to ressurect Nirvana...
- stormgren, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2yeah, since Cobain is dead it's kind of hard.
- Jimonthewall, on 10/09/2008, -0/+10I doubt using a Nirvana producer is going to ressurect Nirvana...
- xombi242, on 10/09/2008, -9/+5Wow. Who cares?
- dregin, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2If there were gonna go after the Nirvana thing, they should have gone with whoever did Bleach. Love the dirty, dirty sound on that.
- KaseyCarbone, on 10/09/2008, -1/+1You are right.
- kingp, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1I hate to say it, but I'm sure Jack Endino's studio has MUCH better equipment now, than it did back in 1988. Truthfully, I prefer In Utero's sound to Bleach.
Personally I think Vig's production for Smashing Pumpkins "Gish" and "Siamese Dream" was superb, and probably some of the best albums I've ever heard.
- veganpa, on 10/09/2008, -10/+8Huh. I thought "American Idiot" was great!
- Obey666, on 10/09/2008, -4/+3YUP me too. Saw them in concert for that album and it was a whole lot of fun.
- kingp, on 10/10/2008, -1/+1It was. It's one of their best since Dookie, IMO.
- Izzio, on 10/09/2008, -3/+8This is good news to me! Maybe they're sellouts, maybe they're overplayed on the radio, but god damn it, sometimes I just feel like a good pop punk song and I always break out the Weezer and Green Day. Seems most Digg users just prefer the former :/
- KillsTheWeak, on 10/09/2008, -1/+7Weezer is neither pop nor punk. I laugh when kids these days, start labeling music from my time something else. That would be like me calling Pink Floyd Trip-Hop.
- GregIsLegend, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1I really enjoy everything the latter does.
- KillsTheWeak, on 10/09/2008, -1/+7Weezer is neither pop nor punk. I laugh when kids these days, start labeling music from my time something else. That would be like me calling Pink Floyd Trip-Hop.
- SIN002, on 10/09/2008, -12/+2Green Day sucks and blows. ***** those emos!
- liambates, on 10/09/2008, -7/+2not more anti bush, idiots trying to be political *****. Not that i like bush, but at least get informed....
- bigfatphony19, on 10/09/2008, -2/+3Wow...I'm used to him taking more respectable artists and making sellout albums...how the hell is he gonna manage that this time?
- acroyear2, on 10/09/2008, -1/+5NIRVANA FTW.
Green Day.... egh ugh.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmQfwJslpKw - phrenzy, on 10/09/2008, -1/+9What is with all of the douchebags overusing the word "emo"? What the ***** does that even mean? Was Nirvana "emo"? I mean they sung about unhappiness, frustration and wore eyeliner occasionally. Do you have to be some meathead caveman guitar basher with lyrics consisting of nothing but fights and explosions to NOT be emo? What is shocking is that some people compare pop-manufactured crap like "MCR" to the classic music and literary lyrics of The Smiths. I guess we should only listen to bands who make "finger horns" while sticking their tongues out and trying to look scary.
- dregin, on 10/09/2008, -1/+6"emo" started with emotional hardcore in the late 80s. It was a pretty decent genre that the mainstream wank has latched onto and ***** in the ass... in the bad way.
- KaseyCarbone, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2I predict that someone here is about to call you emo.
- amberz, on 10/09/2008, -7/+1That's great... Yawn.. ZZzzzz...
- ElBoss, on 10/09/2008, -9/+1Green day are a terrible band. About as punk as high school musical.
- Trav3133, on 10/09/2008, -4/+1SAVE THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!
- RumpleForeskin3, on 10/09/2008, -5/+0If Shirley Manson takes over as lead singer/songwriter...
...I might download the album
I wouldn't buy it unless the album art was Shirley naked.
They were great until American Idiot and they got all political. Because ex-tweeker rockers know SO much about politics and the economy. Please influence a generation with your incredible thought provoking lyrics!! - misterparry, on 10/09/2008, -8/+3Wait, this just in.......No one gives a *****.
- gallagherFTW, on 10/09/2008, -5/+3"Nirvana producer"? you've gotta be kidding me. What about "Original Smashing Pumpkins Producer"? Gish and Siamese Dream are the greatest albums of all time. The Beatles and Nirvana are overrated. The reason Nirvana got so big was Butch Vig and marketing. Listen to In Utero and tell me it's well produced. Oh wait it sounds like Bleach. But if you like lo-fi, this is the complete opposite viewpoint from you. So I'll leave you with a quote from Corgan: "With a little bit of wizardry and a little bit of sheer will, we were either blowing people's minds ... or they hated us." I hope a lot of you are the haters, because I doubt you deserve to know how good Gish and Siamese Dream actually are.
- jazzguitar18, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3I actually loved how In Utero sounds, you've gotta be a ***** idiot to think it sounds like bleach lol.

- AnalogAssassin, on 10/09/2008, -5/+2It's Green Day "is" not Green Day "are"
Green Day as a group is singular.
