Hacking a Furby into a musical Instrument: The "Furby Gurdy"
noiseaddicts.com — Someone has created a mutant hurdy gurdy out of 4 Furby toys (as if a hurdy gurdy isn't mutant enough already). It's got all sorts of glitching controls, sequencing and the ability to control external synthesizers. Includes video.

- bstory, on 08/28/2008, -1/+28There is more between free time and drug abuse than creativity can explain!
- sweetnothing, on 08/29/2008, -0/+14I guess they have found something useful to do with a Furby. Now that is thinking outside of the box!
- BigCalvin247, on 08/29/2008, -0/+6I'm not sure if you could call that "useful"...
- mescad, on 08/29/2008, -0/+4and well, now they are mounted in a box...

- MaxMWood, on 08/29/2008, -0/+9I remember when I had a Furby and after about 5 minutes I shoved it in a draw and it would always wake up randomly and piss you off, so I sold it. Although I would have rather smashed it.

- mills84, on 08/29/2008, -0/+3My friend has a hobby of bending circuits and his furby now makes horrible squealing noises... he has attached the furby to a manakin (Furby as head) and let me tell you its some freaky s**t, especially as he recently made a short zombie film for university and so its all now drenched in fake blood.
- GuitarHeroDenn, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2I will spit acid in your eyes and blind you! Hehehe!

http://www.bentfestival.org/#Home- Myonosken, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1No ***** it didn't mention that in the description.
- DiggaD, on 08/29/2008, -0/+6now if only they could make it not sound like crap.....
- Serume, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1It sounds like the furbies bred with a dot matrix printer...
- Akaziel, on 08/29/2008, -2/+2Buried for being the most obnoxious thing I've seen all day. I gave the video a chance. I was hoping he'd make some kind of music with it or something, but it was just NOISE. There was no music, just random clicks and beeps.
- scabbers, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2Yeah circuit bending needs more quality control!
- CompUComp, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1You buried this!!?? YOU NAB!!!

- compgeek, on 08/29/2008, -1/+1combine the annoying sound of furbies with a technogeek with too much time on his hands and you get:
THE FURBY GURDY the most annoying instrument in the universe
Star Warped game reference if anyone else gets it I'll give them an e-cookie - tdp301, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2Check out this BBC video about the guy who made this
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/7432505 ...- mescad, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1How funny that they sent Gareth Furby to cover this story.
- iliketowin, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1They sound much better now.
- iKnowKungFoo, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1I'm going to spend the weekend creating a Furbaphone so I can play "The Witchdoctor".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qiJPZ0Rruc - RobotKing, on 08/29/2008, -0/+4At first I thought it didn't sound that bad until I realized any useful sound was coming out of the Korg MS-20 being triggered by the SQ-10. Looks well made though.
- mecharabbit, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I think the quality fit & finish is probably the best part of it.
- Novacain, on 08/29/2008, -5/+2This is stupid.
- sockpuppets, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Your mom's a furby.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT-CgYPE2y0&feature ... - Berkana, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2If you could make an instrument out of cyborg zombies, it would look and sound like this.
- jcaino, on 08/29/2008, -1/+1www.nervoussquirrel.com/circuitbent27.html
- teethandeyes, on 08/29/2008, -0/+3That totally rules!
- DBLR, on 08/29/2008, -1/+1buried for being ancient, reposted and not relevant
- DeFex, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2 "too much time on their hands" :
phrase often spouted by people with no creativity.
like or dislike the work, fine. but you have no right to judge how people use their time. - feathersanddoom, on 08/29/2008, -0/+4check out this drum sequencer that uses marbles to create beats.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wreP8FMupyM- Myonosken, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Holy ***** that's awesome.

- benjorino, on 08/29/2008, -0/+3Furbies look so much cooler naked like that.
- mariecordona, on 08/29/2008, -0/+4I had a Furby once and I somehow managed to drop him on his head in the parking lot of my dorm (this was the 90's). After it happened, his eyes half closed and he started making a cacophony of random burps, squeals, beeps, clicks... you name it. He was never the same after that and would act as though he was having grand mal seizures every couple of days. Guess a head injury can do that.
But aside from that circuit bending is really cool. Too bad these people didn't actually try to compose any music with the Furbies. BT's This Binary Universe is mostly made up of circuit bending. - robinthehood, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2dugg for "Furby Gurdy". I continually listen to Hurdy Gurdy Man and wonder how many drugs the generation before me really did do...
Conclusion so far: A lot - RebJaeBoe, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Oh! I used to love Furby. Nice application.
- TomTruelle, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1SIDEWAYS HACK!

- hushpuppy20, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1It really just sounds like a mess to me. Good effort though, buddy!
- TurnipFarm, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1PETA is all over this one.
- MaxMWood, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Uhh maybe a draw is a British word :o Uhmmm? Or what about drawer?
http://www.gowfb.com/images/LifestyleSolutions/Cas ...
Haha. - Jaysturn, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1This may be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen!
- therocksays, on 08/29/2008, -1/+1This brought back disturbing memories.
- Berkana, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1For those who want a point of reference, here's some videos of actual hurdy gurdy performances:

That instrument is basically the offspring of a violin, a meat grinder, a keyboard, and a bagpipe. - NewPunk, on 08/30/2008, -0/+2Wow... what a waste of time...
