- MWeather, on 05/12/2008, -0/+13You've never thought that an overly macho facade is just a cover for homosexuality? I thought that was common knowlege.
Big truck = small penis

- linkjuice, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1I'm really not into the hip hop scene, so its more of the fact that I never really gave it a thought. (kinda like most of the lyrics)
Now as for the big truck comment...THAT is common knowledge.

- iMoth, on 05/12/2008, -1/+2The Boondocks is an American animated series created by Aaron McGruder for the Adult Swim programming block of Turner Broadcasting's Cartoon Network, based upon McGruder's comic strip of the same name. The Boondocks is a social satire of American culture and race, revolving around the lives of the Freeman family – ten-year-old Huey, his younger brother Riley, and their grandfather, Robert. The series is produced by Rebel Base in association with Sony Pictures Television and is currently airing its second season on Adult Swim.

- tech10171968, on 05/12/2008, -0/+4That's why I've always thought it best for those folks in the closet to out themselves; at least, that way, they can have their secret revealed on their own terms. If you wait around for someone else to do it for you, that person is probably not going to care one bit about preserving your dignity and is going to use the information to fsck you up.

- davidjunit, on 05/12/2008, -2/+12With all those hissy fits he throws Kanye is definitely the "boo" if involved in any homosexual relationship.

- happytedium, on 05/12/2008, -8/+6Only because the sort of people who listen to this terrible "music" are close-minded homophobes, probably harbouring some homosexual tendancies themselves.
- spearce, on 05/12/2008, -4/+6the irony of your statement is amazing....referring to the entire genre of music as terrible before you call the artists close-minded. you're silly.
- happytedium, on 05/12/2008, -3/+3Please go back to Reading Comprehension 101. I suggested that the people who listen to artists like 50 Cent are close-minded homophobes, because of the fact that if it came out he/they were gay, if would ruin their career (which suggests that their fans would no longer, well, be fans).
- spearce, on 05/12/2008, -3/+2ewww...and you're snarky. reading comprehension 101. that's rich. my point still stands. you're an ass.

- jayrok, on 05/14/2008, -7/+8That's not the point. Does a specific label of ethnicity/skin color need to be used here? I think "top names in rap music" is more than sufficient.
- clclark33, on 05/12/2008, -0/+6Well, you should come up with a more accurate term than "African-American" because NONE of the black people I know have ever set foot on African soil, nor have any relatives that have either. That means they AREN'T African-Americans, they are just plain Americans.

I bet you don't find "white" offensive.- Diderotten, on 05/12/2008, -10/+8There was no reason to call out black people in the article, unless all the gay rappers he knows are black.
- stevealford, on 05/12/2008, -2/+5Welcome to the desert of the obvious. Reading comprehension isn't required.
- EffYoo, on 05/12/2008, -0/+16All he did was rule out Eminem so he could quote his raps later without implying that he was one of the gay ones. There aren't any white hip-hop artists that would be worth mentioning in an 'expose' like this
- cdahlkvist, on 05/12/2008, -1/+1What about Vanilla Ice? He's white and gay.

It's just discrimination - doesn't mean that if you're all "omg GO AWAY FAGS" that you suddenly desire to be with a man.

Isn't Jamaica one of the most homophobes.. I mean, I'm not saying its right, but not exactly a great example..
And while we're talking about "gangsta hip hop", isn't everything basically controversial in the music? racism, violence, objectified women etc.. and everything else you can think off.. how is this surprising really.. those are all things expected in that music..- CoochieMonster, on 05/12/2008, -0/+0Funnily enough, I know a lady that used to work in a gay club and she told me that she used to see allot of Jamaicans in there, and they wasn't there for the just the music and drinks either (wink-wink), and these were guys that acted 'hard' or 'yardy' on the streets, and had a wife and kid(s) at home.
And I also remember seeing a documentary about gay culture around the world, and you'd be surprised at the sizeable population of gays in the Caribbean islands.

- mayavada, on 05/12/2008, -4/+15there was a brilliant documentary about this in 2006: there's a scene where the director asks mos def & busta rhymes how they would feel about a gay rapper, and they get all uncomfortable and refuse to answer... link: http://www.bhurt.com/beyondBeatsAndRhymes.php
- igetnospamatall, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1yeah, thats exactly what i thought of when i saw the article. The documentary is really great and talks not only about homophobia in hip hop, but pretty much everything. The whole thing is in youtube/video.google

- Wartyboskfapped, on 05/12/2008, -3/+42Men who are extremely homophobic are often conflicted about their own sexuality. Extreme macho posturing is often something someone with deep insecurities about their own masculinity engages in.
- coustoe, on 05/12/2008, -4/+2or maybe they just get tired of ever guy in san fran trying to do them in the butt.
- Shabaka, on 05/12/2008, -2/+1You some kind of psychologist?

- NiceGuyVan, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1It's not like there is a distinction between rapers and most rappers anyway given the misogynistic lyrics.
- mdb76, on 05/31/2008, -0/+0Not to be overly semantic but 'raper' isn't even a word. The word is 'rapist'.

- drlha, on 05/12/2008, -1/+11All these comments and no speculation on who the "name changed" people might be? For example, Lucas, the "A-list" married movie star - the only person that comes to mind is Will Smith.
- wacomwacoff, on 05/12/2008, -0/+8I'd guess either Eddie Murphy (remember when he was caught with transsexual hookers?) or Tom Cruise.
- drlha, on 05/12/2008, -0/+6Being as this book is specifically about rappers, I would guess that rules out Tom Cruise, and Murphy is a comedian. Will Smith is a rapper, remember, although hardly "Gansta". I'm struggling to think of another rapper who became an "A-list" movie star. Seems pretty damning to me.
- wacomwacoff, on 05/12/2008, -0/+4Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I mean, there's rappers like Mos Def, Ice-T, and Eminem who've done acting in major movies, but I wouldn't call any of them "A-List". Will Smith, yes, but frankly he's way too straight to be gay. That's why I wonder if the author is just talking about "A-List" stars in general, not just gangsta rappers.
- ohbugger, on 05/12/2008, -1/+1Sadly the number of A-list black actors is limited also - should be easy to put 2 and 2 together
- vurdillac, on 05/12/2008, -2/+3What about Queen Latifah? She's A-list, former rapper and could be lez (she's played the part really convincingly in Set It Off). Maybe he switched the gender to throw people off? Just a theory.
- drlha, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1Queen Latifah is not A-list, and is a well known lesbian I thought, I remember hearing a few months back that she's getting married to another woman. She's certainly not married to a man, so that rules her out.
- NiceGuyVan, on 05/12/2008, -1/+4"Sadly the number of A-list black actors is limited also "
How is that sad?
"What about Queen Latifah? She's A-list"
No, she's not. She's a guest star for the most part. A glorified extra- wacomwacoff, on 05/12/2008, -1/+1You wouldn't say that if you'd seen her in Chicago. She was nominated for an Oscar for that role.
- drlha, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1Good performances don't make one an A-list star. Getting paid $20 million+ for a movie that opens with your name bigger than the title, that's an A-list star.

Why would someone hate Gays because they are different than them?
Why should we expect other people to share our tastes?- BearinG, on 05/12/2008, -1/+7I just get annoyed by extreme over the top gays that are assholes, dress weird, play "the gay" character/attitude or talk too loud for their own good. I just see those as fakes.. trendy gays..
Nothing against "gays". I hate fake, over the top, nagging, loud talking center of attention straight girls or guys too..
It really has nothing to do with their sexual orientation..- amirman, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3it's because they're alienated and are looking for an identity. when they see "just jack" they cling to it hoping that with it comes community and cultural identity. that's what you get when you stigmatize someone's natural feelings.

- CressCrowbits, on 05/12/2008, -1/+7There was a similar article to this a few years back in another paper. Interesting comments in it about how Hip Hop gigs have more cruising going on than gay nights - where else would you see a room mostly full of sweaty men wearing black? Another story being a group of 'gangstas' who thought that there was nothing gay about having sex with other men, 'prison style'.
In any culture where a retarded ideal of masculinity is so important, homosexuality is the ultimate threat. - iPenis, on 05/12/2008, -4/+10"Several leading rap artists, including top seller Kanye West, have admitted that homophobia is rampant in the industry and they have spoken out against it. - EffYoo, on 05/12/2008, -2/+3what is redundancy a product of?
- Shabaka, on 05/12/2008, -3/+5*****..phobia? Is anyone really afraid of gays? Maybe I'm a biased black man but I would not liken homophobia to racism. I don't recall gays being taken from another continent as slaves and then declared less than human followed by centuries of gross terrorism and human rights abuses.
***Excuse my ignorance or stupidity****
Clearly gays are human beings and should have equal human rights like any other human being. Politics aside, its illogical to me how gay sexuality is normal in anyway and efforts to paint it as such is ignorant and stupid in my view. A penis in an *****??? Strap Ons?? Get the F.VCK outta here. - PosedMagnet, on 05/12/2008, -12/+13For the love of god, people, stop saying "if you hate gays, you're conflicted with your own sexuality."
I don't even know where people GET THAT.
I personally have no problem with gay people, however, just because someone finds it disgusting and is ignorant enough to be THAT outspoken about it... doesn't mean they're suddenly gay themselves.
It's no different than racism or any other discrimination. Just because you hate Jews doesn't mean you question your own religion, or if you hate on someone's race doesn't make you question your own race.
It seems like one of those poor schoolyard comebacks. "Oh, you hate gay people. That's probably because you're gay yourself!" - doesn't even make sense.- wentwhere, on 05/12/2008, -4/+5Technically being gay is different in that it's increasingly evident that it's a genetic thing; you can be born gay, whereas you cannot be born Jewish or Christian. And to question whether or not you are a race is retarded, so it doesn't apply at all.
I would argue that some people who are unsure of their faith become radical in that faith to make up for the doubt they feel. I've seen examples of this personally.
You can't make a blanket statement like, "Everyone who says they hate gay people is actually gay," but you also can't say that NOBODY is just using the hate as a defense mechanism. This WHOLE ARTICLE is a testament to that, not to mention other cases like politicians and clergymen who publicly oppose homosexuality and then turn out to be gay themselves. - gryphon50, on 05/12/2008, -3/+5maybe that is not the case with YOU but alot of homophobes do protest a bit too much. What about these Republicans that are so anti-gay and then a scandal breaks where they have been with male escorts....If a guy simply does not like homosexual behavior, that is one thing, but the more he goes on and on about hating it, that is when I start to wonder about him.
- gregnorc, on 05/12/2008, -2/+4"The lady doth protest too much, methinks." Hamlet, Act 3, Scene 2
I can understandn those who simply are uncomfortable with homosexuals. After all, that's not what they're into. I know I'm an accepting person, but I wouldn't go to a gay bar either. Does that mean I'm a homophobe? No, it means I want to go to a bar with people who share my interests.
Now on the other hand, the Fred Phelps and Bill Oreilly's of the world, the ones who spend their days talking on and on about how vile gays are, those people are the ones you start to wonder about.- Anevilweasel, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2You understand at the 'gay' bar the interest is pretty much getting drunk, dancing and laughing at the drag queens...not butthumping? A bar is a bar is a bar. Hell at my local gay bar during the afternoon they have the damn sports channels on.
Now had you said, 'i know i'm an accepting person but I wouldn't go to a gay bath house' i would of understood...as butthumping, the thing you aren't into, would actually be happening there.
