I’m With the Band: Weezer’s Secret Show
blogtown.portlandmercury.com — One of a series of such hootenannies that Weezer ’s traveling around and putting on to mark the release of their latest album—and the basic idea is this: A local radio station invites like 200 people out, who are told to bring whatever instrument(s) they play, and, beforehand, to learn the basics of the songs that make up the setlist.

- PixelCloud, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Eh.. It's not as if it hasnt been done before. There is a band in Toronto that has been doing that for years, they are called dollarama. You are told to bring in dollar store instruments and play with the band.

- bixby1, on 06/21/2008, -2/+6Really good find here. Much enjoyed.
- Zacee, on 06/21/2008, -1/+4Pretty cool idea, although I'm pretty sure it sounds like a mess. Wonder how many people wanted to show up with the cowbell
- warplayer, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3Here's a video of Creep from the San Fransisco Hootenanny, sounds pretty good I think.

- thegreatsam, on 06/21/2008, -1/+1Great idea.
- Puppetfunk, on 06/21/2008, -0/+23What the Hell 94.7! I'm one of your loyal fans! I play an instrument! I live right by there! Why wasn't I invited? :(
- VaporBro, on 06/21/2008, -3/+25Once I won a pair of tickets to a Bad Religion concert from 94.7 while living in the Gorge area at the time. It happened when I was on my first date (with my future wife...imagine that). They played a BR Song and the first person to call in won a pair of tickets. I called in while we driving and rocking out...and I won! We were quite ecstatic. It was the start of a perfect night. Went to a late movie, then onto Shari's for some pie and a coffee drink. It was a wonderful night out. Then, as we were about 15 minutes from our cabin, a ***** racoon flies out of nowhere as I'm doing 75. The bugger turned his head and looked right at me as the front driver's side of the car thumps right over him. The perfect night (won tickets, good movie, good pie, nice summer night's drive back home with Bad religion blaring) ruined with the poor decision of a raccoon with a death wish. My girlfriend loves animals. The rest of the drive home, and the rest of the night, was filled with her sobs.
Damn good concert though.- jmtest2, on 06/21/2008, -4/+3awesome concert.
say it ain't so!!!!!
this bottle of stevens.- VaporBro, on 06/22/2008, -3/+2Nope, not weezer. Weezer can sucks my balls. Bad Religion FTW
- warplayer, on 06/21/2008, -3/+1As long as she put out, all's well that ends well.
- lordgibbon, on 06/21/2008, -1/+1That might explain the sobs?
- MasterGrief, on 06/21/2008, -1/+5I liked that story.
- nico623, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1I was disappointed, and was definitely expecting to get be air'd.
- Twenty, on 06/22/2008, -0/+2God I need to see Bad Religion live. I bet they're amazing.
- VaporBro, on 06/23/2008, -1/+1Do it. I once took a 28 hour greyhound bus ride to LA to see back to back shows. They put on such good long shows. Do it...Now.
- jmtest2, on 06/21/2008, -4/+3awesome concert.

- mecharabbit, on 06/21/2008, -2/+3Well written blog. Sounds like a great event.
- 1337chic, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2I agree, this blogger can actually write.
"a band you once listened to on "repeat all" in your room is now, by all appearances, lazy and lousy and bland"
*sigh*, too true for too many bands. - greedyemu, on 06/21/2008, -1/+0Most sarcastic comment ever?
- Smurf42, on 06/21/2008, -1/+4lazy, lousy, and bland...?
weezer?

- hokeywebb22, on 06/21/2008, -1/+2Apparently they had one in Phoenix on the 17th that I didn't know about. Now I am pissed I read this article.
- davidhildreth, on 06/23/2008, -0/+1You missed out, it was a great show :D
They were offered a few different venues but insisted on a VFW Post in south Phoenix.
- davidhildreth, on 06/23/2008, -0/+1You missed out, it was a great show :D
- st3vo, on 06/21/2008, -1/+3Rivers please come to Orange County soon.
- Abennobashi, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2The first picture on the site makes the guy look like he's about 3 inches tall.
- deaftly, on 06/21/2008, -9/+4too bad their only good albums are the first 2, talk about a band that went to utter *****
- therightclique, on 06/21/2008, -2/+4yes, but the red album is infinitely worse than ANYTHING they've ever done before. i almost ***** my pants, i was so surprised at how terrible it is. i was able to write better lyrics than these when i was 11, and i feel that my ***** is mediocre at best.
- AmICoolNow, on 06/22/2008, -1/+2Heart Songs is one of the worst things I've ever heard.

- fasda, on 06/21/2008, -4/+6This blog post really showed me why indie kids are hated for being pretentious assholes.
- m3po, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2or you just not be an idiot and notice there are two links at the end of the article.
- wafu, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2This is awesome. I'm going to the one in LA on Monday, should be a blast.
- markperia, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2If they ever come to my city Ill try and get there and bring out my theremin.
- Petrarch1603, on 06/21/2008, -1/+3"I haven't heard their new album yet, w/ the exception of the single "Pork and Beans," and I don't think I would have bothered with it," -umm couldnt they find a more enthusiastic writer?
- Smurf42, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3Yea, this guy loved the hootenanny but expletively puts down half of their albums?
- therightclique, on 06/21/2008, -2/+2more than half of their albums are terrible, dude.

That is all. - Tyrghast, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1Sounds like a lot of fun.
- DDDavinnn, on 06/21/2008, -0/+6I'd give my left nut to participate in this....wait... no nevermind. I'd pay a lot of money to do this.
- candycorn180, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2i gotta say i went to this and it was just awesome.
- charityslave, on 06/21/2008, -0/+0Kudos to Weezer. They are looking for new ways to connect with their audience (and probably reconnect with some of their old songs they are tired of playing over and over again). Sure, he plays up the "I'm just a geek at heart" thing a bit too hard, but he doesn't try to hide behind the rock star thing. And he knowa a thing or two about a catchy melody.
- dOOBiEx213, on 06/21/2008, -10/+2Honestly, Weezer sucks ... how can anyone differentiate them from the rest of the corporate *****? Is it because they take ideas from the internet, and implement Internet memes in their music video/s?
Yea, noooo one has ever thought of ever doing that...
PS. Red Album is bad... at least admit that.- Grikkith, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Yea, cause that idea TOTALLY wasn't the directors idea. I mean, anyone who is anyone knows that Weezer themselves directed that video and came up with the concept.
Or maybe you're just an ignorant douche. I think I'll go with that one.
- Grikkith, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Yea, cause that idea TOTALLY wasn't the directors idea. I mean, anyone who is anyone knows that Weezer themselves directed that video and came up with the concept.
- belebih, on 06/21/2008, -1/+2Hootenannies? Shenanigans! Tomfoolery!! Hooliganisms!!!
Damn kids. - resevil83, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2I cannot wait for this album to be released! The idea is great, I'm very anxious to see how full the sound is. I know this is a stretch, but it's kind of like when the Foo Fighters did their talent search. They selected a person via youtube to do a solo at the Grammys this year. They had a lot of the finalists with them at the grammys playing their instruments. It was truly a great collaboration.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbpfHBs8qpA- martin993, on 06/22/2008, -0/+2Ben Folds did the same thing at his Myspace gig. A massive part of the crowd had guitars and the rest sang backing vocals. Ace idea, though not one I could take advantage of, being ***** at guitar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXDVQ03lirE- resevil83, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1thanks for the info... this is why I love digg. People like you, feeding me with more information. I am a Ben Fold's fan and did not know this. Time to myspace :)

- woofers07, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3That's kinda funny, I was up in Portland this weekend for my buddies' band and we had to go pick up some monitors at a sound rental store. One of my friends overheard some guy asking for a kick sub for Weezer which they apparently didn't have. I didn't believe him, looks like I'm the idiot.
- iamnotbill, on 06/21/2008, -3/+4***** IT! WE'LL DO IT LIVE!
- Twenty, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Apparently they're writing it themselves.
- silentlaw, on 06/21/2008, -0/+3Rivers looks like Mario's rocker cousin.
- industryfinest, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1Sounds like fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- gamben0, on 06/23/2008, -0/+2I wish they didn't suck now.
