      • giid, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1As a former brass instrument player I'm really used to pushing valves with my right hand so I tried holding the guitar like that awhile, but for some reason it didn't work well for me. My left hand just couldn't get used to strumming. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance, but I just couldn't get used to it. Maybe because I was still thinking "guitar".

        I was able to get much better by practicing the normal way.

        Anyways. It's annoying when they mix two different guitar parts randomly. Take you from rhythm to lead parts randomly.

        If you know how to p[lay the song for real, and then play guitar Hero you will see how retarded it can be with what guitar parts they decide to have you play.

        I still have fun with it, once I divorce any true musical attachment to the game.

      Think about it. When someone picks up a guitar for the first time, they have no rhythm, no endurance, and no coordination. Same with Guitar Hero. But while it takes a long time and a lot of practice to become mediocre at playing guitar, which many people don't make it to because they gave up long ago due to perceived lack of talent, those playing Guitar Hero are given positive reinforcement by playing though the levels. And while they are encouraged by their success, they play more while building endurance and coordination. Those who pick up a real guitar after getting good at Guitar Hero will have already fought half the battle of playing guitar, are will be more likely to become good guitar players then those who just start with a real guitar.

        Of course I enjoy GH, but the inclusion of timing on top of having to hit as many as 7 notes simultaneously makes GH look like kiddie play compared to GH from a difficulty point of view - again in my opinion.

It takes a pretty decent amount of playing to do that, and it's no more or less useful than any other hobby (yes, that includes playing the *real* guitar). Yeah the guitar is way harder to learn but does that make everything easier than it not cool enough for you? It's a completely different "skill" than playing the guitar and I'v never seriously heard someone say they could play the real guitar now that they beat guitar hero. Just because YOU suck at it doesn't mean IT sucks. Guitar Hero isn't anything close to the difficulty in playing the guitar for real but who cares, it's still a "skill"
      • steviesteveo, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1I think it's more because people are getting a primal feeling that it's awkward logic behind applauding someone for being insanely talented (and obviously extremely well practiced too) at accordian and then making the main point their potential ability at a guitar simulating video game.

        Guitar hero is really hard at expert, actually I've noticed that the level of difficulty has even gone up in the last edition but it's still a video game in the same way that CoD doesn't let you really shoot a gun. There's a lot of skill involved in playing guitar hero at the high levels but it's guitar hero playing skill, just like that video's accordion playing skill and they're very different.
